I see eight in device manager. So it would be correct if I have a quad-core cpu. I was reading through the pages of this thread and found a program link for HWiNFO32 and it show it as 4 cores. It must be the way vantage reports it or it does not truly support multi-core which I doubt is the case.

The external monitor would not be set above 1920x1080 resolution, like my laptop.

    Sirius is the 1920x1080
    Vega is the 1366x768

Try and find the Vega model over ebay or you could order the full HD one and simply replace the screen which i am doing sometime next month.

According to the EU law , removing the sticker to upgrade your Rams and HDD will not void your warranty.

    That's correct.

Japan are the best peoples to get new laptop screens cheap and sometimes very good and will last.

I have 2 Sirius backup screens and 1 Vega but the Vega cost more money as they cost more to make than the Sirius i think.

Any suggestions where to find cheap but "perfect" replacement screens? FullHD is not necessarely required. I managed to get one GX660 very cheap, but there is one slightly (it's either dark green or blue) bright pixel with it.

I already found this: MSI GX660-053US replacement Laptop LCD Screen. Brand-new screens (never used).

I assume that even that there is that 053US suffix here, that doesn't meant that it wouldn't fit other (for example non-US) GX660(R) models as well?

I have been able to play around with this laptop and it seems pretty good for music use. I run vst guitar amplifiers on it and it kicks! The screen is great if you need to use programs. Can't wait to try Sonar.

I've even tried to play some Age of Conan on it and it seems a playable config can be found even for that game. I'm very happy with this machine.

the speakers on this thing are amazing for laptop speakers. Best I've heard. Of course you all know this.

900/1000 is an overclocked state. Standard clocks are 700/1000 for gaming performance. Not all GPUs can reach that high clock, some can't even overclock as they become overly unstable.

Use GPU-Z or other software to detect clock speeds.

My max clocks are 900/1030 but I use 880/1030 to keep things controlled and stable.

    but 1600x900 or1280x768/1024 is fine.
i no that crysis is cpu heavy so i guess u guys with i7's do better then the i5. but yeh any input would be appriciated

Now... I use my GPU overclocked all the time so I am not a stock indicative of GX660s. I went through all crysis in all high 1920x1080 at 30fps+ and while I usually had minimum fps around 25 or more, the later levesl proved to much so I stepped down to medium settings to get smooth gameplay

Any lower res than 1920x1080 will give you better results, as such res is too taxing.

Just a quick question for you GX660/R owners, can it use the i7 620m? I want this or the i7 640m due to the high clock speeds. But I'm thinking it might cause me issues with the onboard video? I'm either going to replace my i5 450m with one of those two chips, or get a an i7 920xm, but would rather not due to the big price gap.

    Hey Guys. I have a MSI GX660 (I5-460M)
Im considering buying the I7 920XM (QS) When it gets cheaper.
Is the MSI compatible with that one? And do I have to flash the 660R bios for the i7 then?

I'm pretty sure the i7 920xm is drop in compatible with the GX660, and no you don't have to flash the 660r bios. I think thought that the power supply may not be adequate and you might have to get a higher wattage power brick, but I could be wrong.

As far as I know it does not have that feature. To be honest though, you should be fine with the bios it comes with.

To use this program you must be using 32 bit windows and I am unsure it would work then even.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but is my laptop using raid 0 ? i thought it was the default settig? its just that i have a c drive and a d drive, the d drive is called the data drive, and i have just used it for storage and backup of the other drive. however all my other stuff seems to be on the c drive and my music and backup is on the d drive, i thought raid 0 split the storage of everything between the 2 drives equally? sorry but im a noob to stuff like this :)

Yep, by default it's in RAID0.

The two "drives" that you see are partitions within the RAID array.

hey guys! i need help, i have a MSI GX660 (the i5 one), so far i'm kinda happy with it but there's a thing that bothers me... It randomly freezes for like 1-4 sec on games like DoTA(at watching replays), Dragon Age: Origins, and Oblivion. I also played Assassin's Creed on it but haven't experienced freezing while playing it. I'm just wondering what could be the problem here??
    Thanks in Advanced Guys! :)

Check what hard drive make you have.

    is it wd blue???

if so you should upgrade them to 7200rpm hard drive
    or momentus or ssd.

that is the reason by the way

I've had something strange happen to my gx660r screen twice.

When casually browsing on the internet, my screen would suddenly dim lower than the lowest brightness setting. Turning the brightness all the way up wouldn't fix it either. Only after a full restart would it be back to normal.

I'm worried that my graphics card is damaged or my lcd screen has problems.

well you can keep the one with the os like i did as long as you change the drive you have games installed on then the problem will be fixed..

there is however another fix as the actuall problem with those hard drives and the reason they freeze is because they are parking/unparking. i posted a fix a while back(which dosent work 100% of the time) but if your not the most tech savy person it probably would be best for you to just replace your hardrive

It might be possible that the backlit cable is loose which drops the backlight and leaves you with a "shut down" LCD. It works and all, but you can barely see what's going on.

When you do a full restart after it happens, do you move the LCD around? Try to reproduce the issue. Did you change video drivers recently? Did it happen since you bought it?

would you mind to enlighten me about "parking/unparking" of hard drives? is it harmful? cause the most probably thing i'll do is to find fixes about it as i can't find the time and money to upgrade my laptop at this time...

Well, I did custom flash my vid bios to idle at 100/150 and overclock to 860/1040. But, I don't see how that could be the reason of random dimming. It's been fine like that for 3 months. Also I did not move the LCD around or update drivers.
