A hinge is probably a little tighter on one side, make sure to always open/close the lid from the center as the best practice to allow force to be distributed evenly to both sides.

Feel free to tag me once you get it if you want me to help you tweak it.
These are the Ultra Male Tweaks:
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Disabling Microsoft Edge from starting up automatically in the background upon reboot.
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
14- Preventing Microsoft Edge from running on startup in the background
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

Typical design problem when a heatsink is cooling more than just one thing. Alienware users have dealt with this for years on their BGAbooks @Papusan
Nothing new to see here. Standard stuff people have been dealing with ever since this heatsink block shape was first used on the GT72s or GT80 4 core systems.
Cores 0, 2 and 4 (I go by the HWinfo layout with the cores being 0-5 NOT 1-6) are the ones at the top of the die.
Cores 1, 3 and 5 are the ones at the bottom.
Cores 1, 3 and 5 have more heatsink pressure, thus are cooler. Cores 0, 2 and 4 have less heatsink pressure, causing higher temps and a bigger chance of the thermal paste (originally a lairdtech phase change stamp) drying out prematurely.
This is not an easy problem to fix.
Sometimes replacing the VRM and choke thermal pads (above the CPU) with pads of half the thickness (example: 1mm to 0.5mm) helps improve things.
A few of the GT73VR users did replacing of the pads with 0.5mm pads (me, Shehary--who was the very first to do this, and a few others), and sanded the heatsink flat (very carefully, important to sand as little as possible). Shehary was the first to do this.
But these were easy to fix on the GT73VR and GT75VR as removing the CPU heatsink was separate from the GPU (it was one piece) and only required unplugging the AC, battery connector (ALWAYS unplug the battery connector AND AC, always) and moving the fans out of the way.
GT75 Titan required removing the entire GPU heatsink *AND* GPU VRM heatsink to access the CPU heatsink.
GS65/P65 (i'm guessing same chassis design) users get to remove the entire motherboard.
Unless you're experienced enough at modding to do this, might be best off RMA'ing. You are not the first person who encountered this problem. Check the GS65 thread. Unfortunately you either play the RMA game, or *HOPE* that just reducing the thermal pad thickness and then repasting with a THICK paste like Coolermaster Gel Maker Nano, which I recommend personally, or Phobya Nanogrease Extreme (NOT KYRONAUT!! KRYONAUT IS BAD ON IMBALANCED HEATSINKS!!!) will be enough work without resorting to sanding. -
-
Do you know what thermal pads specs I should look for? I see that you mention 0,5mm thickness but what else?
-
Worked a charm. I have plenty of space now so I'm good but I do wonder what the need for the recovery drive is when I've made the recovery USB... Unless they're not the same things... -

So I've been lurking here awhile, and decided to jump the gun on ordering this laptop.. However I live in the Netherlands . And wanted to order from the representatives but didn't really see a way to get it here (I feel even worse if I was wrong in that). However, the laptop is really pretty and I like working with it.. But are having issues with initial tweaking, also well it gets hot and or loud.. And the audio jack is tricky (it does nothing using a 3 pin) and only gives the speaker. Or the other way around.. I'm reluctant to ask.. But any help would be highly appreciated!

Little ticked with MSI support this week. I've had my Wifi act up where i cannot see networks around me (Card still works, if i already connected it will auto connect) I solved this issue once by resetting windows...but a week or so later it happened again. I don't feel like resetting my laptop every week when this keeps happening. After going through there basic stuff (which i already had done) of reinstalling wifi drivers from website, reset bios, reset the cmos, this is the next step they give me...
Anyone else having issues with there WIFI? -

Sorry I haven't gotten a chance to post much follow-up but the main user of the laptop has it so much I haven't gotten a chance to use it or play with it (surprise, surprise
Anyways, some other impressions having had the laptop for a few weeks now
1) White still looks great - everyone still comments how professional it looks
2) Got a better carrying case from amazon for it.. linked it here.. fits great, and works well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H7X5RL8/
3) No chance to run benchmarks, but I can at least give you an idea that overwatch runs very well and pasting/fans and temperature were good. On Ultra, avg 70-100 fps, temps never got about 65' (both fans on). Idle temps seem to be about 35' (cpu fan).. and low use (web browsing, word processing, etc) seem to be about 40-45 (just cpu fan)
4) Fingerprint sensor seems to be working fine no problems so far
5) No obvious 'hinge' problems.
I'll see if I can get my hands on it more but so far the laptop owner is very happy
Thanks -

Hello everybody, this is my first post!
I'm very interested in MSI P65 Creator 8RE (the silver one - GTX 1060): I read a lot of threads/reviews but I have some doubt about the screen.
In a previous post of this thread I read that both the white Limited Edition and the silver ones use the same panel...
but - ingenuous question - how can it be possible if the L.E. has 144 Hz and the others 60 Hz?
I'd like to understand if the 8RE silver version has the same brightness and color accuracy of the 8F (I can't find any reviews on 8E or 8D).
Thank you in advance,
MIchele -

2. Scroll to Windows Hello and click Set Up in the Fingerprint section.
If you don't have a PIN, you'll need to create one to set up the fingerprint reader.
3. Click Get Started.
4. Enter your PIN.
5. Scan your finger on the fingerprint reader.
You will have to do this multiple times to give the scanner a good picture of your prints.
6. Click Add Another if you want to repeat the process with another finger, or close the program.

Hey guys. My P65 screen was accidentally cracked by my littlle brother. I've contacted to MSI service and they will charge me $250 for a new replacement which I find its too high. So I'm looking a screen replacement on Ebay and Newegg and I can't find because they are all 144Hz (mine is 60Hz). I beg you guys to look at the exact screen model. Maybe I have to pay to MSI for sure but I don't know where they offer me the same model.
Please Help -

I am considering this laptop after my XPS15 9570 is a complete mess.
What are the flaws/problems with this laptop?
Except for my XPS15 being broken (capped to 12.5W usage power throttling) I am looking to get my money back from Dell.
Other stuff that sucks is regular power throttle and fans continuously running 24/7. AND NO S3 sleep. Laptop is awake 24/7 and never sleeps.
Are these the same issues with the P65 creator white edition? Or do you have S3 sleep and can turn off the fans?
Does it come with a ton of bloatware? Then I guess it's like the Dell, a complete fresh Windows install from scratch is recommended
Read a lot about the flaws and dents in the white paints... That is pretty tacky for a 2000+ dollar laptop with cracks in the paint.
And I read that you get a Kingston SSD, which is the worst piece of crap you could buy hahahah why no Samsung 970 pro???Last edited: Jan 21, 2019 -
1) Price - seems to be slightly more $ (looking at 2500-2900+ fully decked out) c/w a similarly priced Dell when I was looking/similar spec'ed out, but I think it's subjective especially if you're gonna get good use out of it
2) Similar to the GS65 (read that thread, same chassis as you know), evidently it could suffer from some heat issues - although many people have either gotten around it with repasting, undervolting, underclocking etc. In my case, we had HIDevolution just install paste/pads and we've never seen it go above 75'C even running full graphic AAA games
3) 'White' - i guess you might consider that it could get dirty/scratch/etc but so far no problems from my standpoint, and it really is sharp-looking. Some GS65 owners say that have hinge problems - haven't seen this
4) "bloatware" - we had fresh install done, works well like any computer
5) SSD - we had installed a new 970 evo and a backup 860 storage but some $ here
6) Sleep - no problems so far.. everything shuts down on sleep and can awaken without problems
We looked for a while and felt that the white p65 was the best combination of being able to do productivity for college but also allow him (owner) to game.. i was looking previously at a surface book 2 (thought about waiting on a 3), an XPS as well (we own many other dells laptop/desktop), but went P65 (first MSI we've purchased) and are happyeucalyptus likes this. -
I have no issues doing undervolting with TS. Temps seems to be an issue with most laptops, the XPS15 the worst then followed by all the others such as Razer and MSI. But the fans, is it possible to get them completely quiet e.g. turn them off?
Thanks for the reply though! I am mainly using it for college too but want to be able to play some games, mostly counter strike and PUBG. -
The fans have multiple settings so I"m sure you can fiddle with them from low to super high blast... certainly if the laptop is asleep they're off
I don't think you'd have any problems with CS or PUBG.. my son plays overwatch on basically ultra settings getting 90-100+ fps with temps < 75
I don't know if some of the companies on here ship to europe ( i would guess they do, since you can purchase worldwide warranty) but I'm not as heavy tweaker as you might be - just wanted it all in and done (drives, pasting, install, etc) so went that way.. if you can tweak yourself I think it's not too much of a problem... the only thing I remember reading is that the MB being upside down is a pain to tweak with internals..
One other slight knock and this is just me - i personally don't like the keyboard and response of the keys (son however who uses it has no problem with it)... I personally have an HP spectre x360 and I love that keyboard... the few times I"ve used the P65, I don't like the responsiveness/feedback - that's just me (I type 90-100 wps and still can on the p65 but just don't like the feeling).. might be worth trying out though before you decide -
The keyboard, from pictures online its hard to tell. But do you have any MEDIA keys? For music, back, pause, next? Couldn't find any. Like Macbook pro's have dedicated media keys and my dell and most manufacturers use the FN+ . Very useful for Spotify.
But running it on a daily basis. No issues at all with sleep, battery life or charging? Read it takes 2.5 hours to charge, obviously no fast charge there. And the fingerprint works fine? That's a thing I use a lot.
As I need a new laptop probably next week, this seems to be the best option and most bang for the buck. The Gigabyte Aero 15X is not available in Scandinavia sadly and Razer Blade har 800 Euro more for the same specs, although a better laptop. -
No obvious media keys like a macbook.. just your typical f1-f12 and fn+ with the control vol up/down, select monitor, turn on/off webcam, etc. Keyboard wise, regular placement of where i'm used to the del, esc, up/down/left/right arrows would be.. i don't like where the home/pg-up/down ones are, but i don't have to use the computer. If I can explain further (I pulled out my HP spectre to compare why, and the best explanation I can give is that the keyboard buttons feel higher (height wise, and the amount you 'push it down') on the HP.. seems like it's a lower button/not as 'springy' on the MSI, is all) - I didn't look it up, and maybe they are actually exactly the same, but from my feel, it seems more springy on the hp
No issues with sleep/battery/charging so far.. seems to get a full day of work with the overnight charge on it without having to recharge any while at school - the typical office productivity, watching videos, surfing internet, etc.. you definetly don't want to play without it charged in though.. on just battery if you're playing games you won't last much (i'd say 1-2hr) just like any laptop of this type. Fingerprint reader works fine for him he says. I would prefer windows hello (there's a webcam for goodness sake, which I"m used to on my HP), but the reader works fine too
I think if you can get one that gives you at least a return period (can try/return if you don't like), or with a small fee to return, it's best to just try it out too...
I'm not affiliated with any company, but I know both xoticPC and hidevolution I think both ship worldwide and have been in this thread... it might be worth looking at them... if you look back you'll see at least donald from hid worked with me on mine, but both representatives/companies seem to be great people from what i can telleucalyptus likes this. -
Hey man, I appreciate your time! Thank you so much
Hope to get rid of the Dell now so I can get this one instead I feel pretty much sold on the P65 to be honest.
I am coming from a few years of desktop PC's, used to be a heavy modder but desktops are not very useful for students haha But the lack, or rather difference in power is HUGE, especially when I am used to my Acer Predator X34. Going down to a 1080P 15 inch laptop is definitely a game changer. -

Hi everyone! I’m having a very strange issue with the GTX 1060 stuttering on an external display (via HDMI).
This is happening on my MSI P65 8RE laptop.
A little background info. I use an external monitor connected via HDMI with this laptop that I usually have in extended mode (if I’m working or for general use) and I switch to second screen only with Windows+P when I’m going to play a game or if I just want to use that monitor.
The stuttering/lag issue never (as far the pretty extensive testing I’ve done) appears when just using the laptop screen OR when in extended mode.
The issue only appears when the computer goes from laptop only or extended mode to second screen only. For example, this issue won’t appear if I set display to second screen only, then restart the computer so no “switch” to second screen only occurs while the computer is on.
So, here’s what exactly what happens when the stuttering/lag issue is occurring. Say I turn on my laptop and it is in extended mode since that’s what it was when I shut it down. I use the computer for a while, now I switch to second screen only.
From here there is stutter/lag everywhere (not just games, talking even windows gui). And this stutter/lag is weird, it is not sporadic, but consistent, it looks like frames are being dropped constantly so nothing, even minimizing windows, looks smooth.
Now I start up Oxygen Not Included (for example, 2D, not super intense game, a 1060 should have no problems with this) this game is set to use my Nvidia card instead of integrated graphics. Panning around the map/everything is stutter city. Now the weird thing is if I use FRAPS or MSI Afterburner to see the fps, it is at 60 (same readings as if I played it on laptop screen only or extended, except that would actually look like a smooth 60) but what you are seeing is DEFINETLY much lower. (I can take a video of this if it would be helpful)
Something I figured out that *sometimes* fixes this stutter/frame drops/lag is if I start a more intense 3D game or application that is set to use the nvidia gpu (this is where I get confused lol). Going back to that example, say I quit Oxygen Not Included because of the stutter, now I start a game like Fallout 4 and quit (I literally mean start it, get to the main menu, and quit without ever loading the game). Now there is a chance the stutter everywhere including the windows gui is gone, and if I start Oxygen Not Included all the stutter is gone. And even when it doesn’t fix the stutter, those games themselves do not stutter.
As i understand this is very old bug with no fix? Just return it to shop/service centre? -
I have a problem with the touchpad. I have tried the official drivers from MSI's website and ELANs latest drivers. The problem is that a lot of the time when i touch the touchpad instead of clicking down in the left corner, the touchpad doesnt register it as a click. Anyone know how to fix this? It is so annoying!!
