The GS65/P65 is such a clean looking laptop. The GS65 had my attention at first but when I saw the silver one I started to look really hard at it until I saw MSI decided not to include a thunderbolt 3 port. I had written off the white one at first but since it does have the thunderbotlt 3 port I started to check it out and it grew on me. I'm planning on getting one of those bad boys. I've seen some reviews where people have called out the build on the hinges for the GS65. I wonder if they have improved that on the P65?

I don't know, but I assume they made tweaks to the manufacturing process with what they learned from early runs of GS65's. From what I'm reading around the net, most people who recently bought a GS65 are not having as many issues as early adopters had. Only real hands on time will tell.

That's good to hear. You would expect good build quality paying what you are for the laptop. I'm still scratching my head as to why MSI didn't put TB3 on the silver edition P65. The GS65 has it as well so I don't understand the omission.

I spoke with @Donald@HIDevolution so I'm going to be pre-ordering my unit sometime soon. Seeing as the P65 costs a little less than the G65 I may go that route.

I'm debating on if I should go with the 256 or 512 GB SSD as the boot drive. I'm planning on getting a 1 TB SATA SSD for Storage in the 2nd slot. What is the rush build option and is it worth it for a pre-order? Decisions, decisions...

For most people, 256GB M.2 SSD is plenty for their OS, software, and 2 or 3 games they play most often. However, if you will call me, I can walk you through how to see how much of your drive is currently being used for these purposes.

The White Limited Edition is indeed limited...there will only be one shipment, and when they are sold there will be no more. Rush Order puts you ahead of those who don't order it (it does not rush production, it just puts you toward the head of the line), so if you don't get it, you may risk not getting one if they are sold out before your order comes up for allocation.

    Hey Donald,

Is the below something you can add to the checklist for the builds of the P65|GS65 as kind of a proactive measure? I’m not sure if MSI has fixed the problem on the assembly line, but this seems to be a fix to some of the keyboard issues people see.

for the MSI P65' owner, can I ask a hardeware ids for this panel? As I know this model is the first 100% sRGB thin bezel screen with Full HD 60Hz (all those outhere are 60% sRGB, except 144Hz model)
I really want to know a model number or a manufacturer panel for this P65. Thanks

I found one NV156FHM-N61 not sure they take this on P65 because it is a 100% sRGB.

Hi guys, please help me out with my choice.

    I'm thinking of purchasing the P65 1060 60hz (1,900$) vs the GS65 1060 144hz(2,100$).
My usages are gaming AAA on ultra and programming.
I'm not really fond of gaming at low settings for crazy fps, I rather prefer max out the graphics and play at about 60fps.

My question is, do I really need to buy the 144hz GS65 even if my fps is gonna be at about 60?
Before you ask, the pricing on the 1070 GS65 is 2,600$ here in Israel, which is too pricey for my budget.
Also, the P65 white limited 1070 version is not even available here.

I'm really leaning towards the P65 1060 60hz, is there a reason for me to think about purchasing the 144hz 1060?

Nice! CPU is throttling a little too much on stock though, after some repaste plus undervolting the physic score will definitely get into 16000 range, since the system is basically a GS65 :D

Awesome! looking forward to impressions on the white color, noise level, temp (I think you got the same paste/etc that I did)..
I think (hope) mine's still in production but hope to get in next 1-2 weeks (hope).
I hope that white doesn't get too dirty or such too easily

It looks fantastic. You definitely have to give it some TLC to keep it looking nice and clean but for me it's not a problem. I'm debating on getting rid of the stickers on the palm rest though . I'm not sure how the paint will take it and I've been looking up ways to do it without damaging the surface.

Hehe.. if it was me I would be busy playing with it so much too, so I'm good with 'loving the laptop so far'
When you get a chance, DemonBob.. lemme know what you think about the white color/build, etc

I myself am excited (even though laptop's not going to me in the end), but should get the one I ordered Thursday for my son :) (at least I get my old laptop back too.. heh)
Guess I need to be careful, if I like it too much I probably will want to order one for myself lol

Hey guys, I really appreciate all the feedback and advice in this thread (and on NBR in general)! Im a long time lurker and have been scoping out a new solid laptop for some time. I am really interested in the new P65 (1070). Once I receive it I'll be looking to get rid of some of the bloatware (with Ultra Male's tweaks!)

did you get it with a clean install or do you have the MSI install.
If you have the MSI Windows install, do you think you can create an ISO of the recovery partition using the MSI Burn & Recovery tool and upload it?

Sadly I had some circumstances come up and had to send it back. Family property that was lost a dozen years ago was offered to me in a short sell last Wednesday. In order to get my credit cards back into optimal standing for the mortgage (was already planning on purchasing a house in 6 months) I decided to return the laptop. As much as I loved the laptop, I can not pass up the chance to get this property back as it was once suppose to be my inheritance. I'll be repurchasing in the future within the next two months after all is said and done.

    Got the p65 today

    Initial impressions
    1) Love the white - looks all business like and certainly most people would not think a gaming computer would be under the hood.
    2) Never having picked up a 15" before, to me, it feels like a 'massive' laptop - but I"m surprised how light it is.. (for reference, I personally use a 13" hp spectre x360, so in comparison, it seems huge to me). However, for the user purposes I think it's at a good size/weight balance and can be used as a good laptop/desktop replacement (hooked up to external) at college pretty easily
    3) Only briefly fiddled with a few videos (looked at the new smash bros ultimate advertisement) but color/contrast/screen looked very good to me (looked as accurate as my 13")
    4) Installed a couple things for user and everything seemed very speedy (msoffice, eclipse java, davicini resolve). HID configured/installed this laptop for us and they did a great job that I can tell so far...
    5) For a second there, we thought the webcam was broke, because 'camera' wouldn't activate... (thought it was a driver problem).. but low and behold, realize you have to actually 'turn it on' (function-f6).. so hopefully that saves some time for people like me who didn't read the quick-start
    6) Love the white wood box it came in - definetly well constructed and is easily a keepsake/good for storage. Initially still do not like the sleeve that comes with it, probably will get a different carrying case
    7) I (just me) personally do not like the keyboard, having previously typed on the hp (something about the response or feedback I think but that's just me I think)... The person actually using the p65 thought it was fine though.. I would definetly try out one (p65, gs65 if you're very particular about keyboards)
    8) Fans activated once as I was installing software... it sounded really weird to me first (as a low rumble/buzz), but we realized it was because we had the laptop sitting on the sleeve.. when placed on a flat surface the fans were fine and not loud
    9) I have not run any benchmarks/temps/etc on it so can't really tell you anything there - did get thermal grizzly and fujipoly pads so will run it through stuff at least once to see how it does

Other quick thoughts not totally laptop related
    1) HID did a great job with working through the process and Donald really made it smooth - thanks guy
    2) The config/setups were nice and clean, no bloatware, fast and no hiccups during process
    3) We got a nice design to personalize the bottom right hand area of the keyboard and it turned out very cool/looks good.. also got the back (bottom) personalized - glad we did

I'm happy to answer any questions that might come up.. I'll come back and update this post if anything else comes up

Eagerly awaiting your results for temps and benchmarks! If I could also do a request, is there any chance you could do a color accuracy and brightness test as well?

I really want this laptop, but it seems the reviews are... Interesting..

@chenia, did you have any issues registering the notebook? I'm in the middle of jumping through hoops to get this done since the page timed out on me in the middle of my registration. I was able to finish it but I was never sent to the confirmation page to activate the extended warranty that comes with the P65. I would like to see what your experience has been so far in that regard.

Hi Pana - first ~4-5 attempts the website would time out yes.. My son (his notebook really) said it finally went through (may want to try, like our time early am since that's late night in taiwan).. didn't ask him about the extended - will do that. I would figure if any problems probably just e.mail MSI support. He hasn't even downloaded the free software yet, which I need to get him to do also. I haven't gotten a chance to do any diagnostics yet either since he's had it at school mostly, but will try to snag it from him at some point

Okay I went ahead pulled the trigger, placing an order for a P65 8RF-441. This is definitely the most expensive & highest performance PC I've ever purchased so I'm very excited. I've also puchased a new wireless keyboard and laptop stand since this will be predominantly used for work. Need to read up on the tweaks before it arrives (including fixing a cable under the traction pad?).

I bought it completely stock so if anyone is interested I'll try to do some temp benchmarks.

No, my original plan was HID or GenTech but I ended up getting it through my company so I had to buy elsewhere.

Kevin & Donald are great though, I would have purchased through either of them if I was able to.

The MSI website sure is finicky. I'm still trying to figure out if my extended warranty has been applied. I believe you have to do this within 30 days of the purchase date (not the pre-order date but the date HID got the shipment). I'm still waiting on the MSI Representative @Donald@HIDevolution connected me with to confirm. It only shows up as "Standard warranty" on the MSI website so I'm concerned since I only have a few days left to get that done.

Other than that everything about the laptop is great.

    1) Register for an MSI Account or login with one if you already did over here: https://register.msi.com/home/login

    2) Click on Product Registration:

    3) Now click on "I want to register a new product"

    4) Select the product you are wanting to register (ie. Notebook)

    5) Select either the manual method or using the MSI Registry Helper to make things easier:

I just replied to your email.

The 30 days only applies to the Accidental Damage Warranty. Since you have already registered your warranty, the Accidental Damage Warranty coverage is in place.

Now, we just need to figure out why the MSI website is not showing the FREE 2nd Year Warranty. In any event, we have plenty of time to get that sorted out. Rest assured, MSI can do it manually if necessary.

Big shout out to @Donald@HIDevolution for helping me get the free 1 yr warranty extension situation sorted out!

@chenia, if your son is having any issues with the warranty extension I highly recommend contacting Donald to get it straightened out. The warranty field should say "Standard warranty + 12 months." After you do that you can complete the survey under the product detail section (at the bottom you will see a list of tabs and survey is one of the options) and you will receive an additional 3 months so it will then say "Standard warranty + 15 months."

Laptop arrived and it's a great machine. Much sturdier than I expected as I've read about people complaining of flex, I don't see that issue at all.
I do have a slight issue of the lid not sitting fully flush when closed. As in it overhangs the right side of the machine by probably 1mm maybe 1mm (haven't measured but I did notice it when I first picked it up). As such the left has an 'under' hang of the same amount. It doesn't appear to really be an issue affecting anything other than aesthetics, although it is disappointing to see on a brand new $2,400 machine. Has this been an issue on the GS65/P65? Not sure I can be bothered sending it back it's that minor, it's just sad that MSI don't do better QC on their machines. This doesn't look like it was from shipping or anything.

Other than that I'm stocked with the new machine, it looks and feels great! I do now have a 27 month warranty (yes!), so I guess I've got plenty of time for an RMA to repair if it does end up bothering me enough.
