I think what we 'need', is to see how the new cooling design performs. ;)

MSI has put up the new Pascal Laptop product pages, specification page up for 1070 SLI models now, but not for the 1080 SLI - no model numbers listed either.

Right off the top, no "K" CPU's in the GT83VR.

The GT83VR has 6920HQ's, and there are 2 models, a 1080 SLI and 1070 SLI

GT83VR TITAN SLI (GEFORCE® GTX 1080 SLI) NO Specification page or models
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GT83VR-TITAN-SLI-6th-Gen-GTX-1080-SLI.html#hero-overview

The 1080 SLI Support page does have some downloads, including Manual and Utility:
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT83VR-TITAN-SLI-6th-Gen-GTX-1080-SLI.html#down-manual

The manual shows both 230w and 330w power supplies, and also says "Optional" - I am assuming the 2nd Power adapter is going to be optional and cost extra(?).

There is also a 1070 SLI model :)

    GT83VR TITAN SLI (GEFORCE® GTX 1070 SLI) Models SLI-055 and SLI-023
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/GT83VR-TITAN-SLI-6th-Gen-GTX-1070-SLI.html#hero-overview

Still reading up on the details :)

ugh what the hell.. no 6820hk sigh goodbye to any possibility of overclocking past 4.3ghz lol. unless someone owns a 6920hq and can OC past that point but i doubt it.

also, after seeing heatsink and owing laptop for this long i have a rough idea of how cooling design performs without being tested.. though tested of course is still good reference.

Above, I posted the official product landing page for the GT80VR w/SLI 1080's, and also Ken's product page. Ken has listed all of the U.S. SKU's and these show the specifications. In spite of what the manual shows for the PA, it's a 660W (330W x2) unit.....lessor SKU's w/SLI 1070's will have a 460W (230W x2) PA's.

If I'm reading this correctly the laptop on has a 60hz 1080p display (In addition to the 4K option)? I would have hoped there would be at least a 75hz option or a 120hz option. I run dual 1080's in my desktop and with my 4K display they are just quite not enough for "max" settings to keep the average FPS up to 60hz. On my 1440p Gsync 144hz monitor they absolutely destroy all.

Here is to hoping a higher refresh rate panel shows up in one of these....

Let us know how that works out ;)

Nice notebook but the price is just out of my league for now. It would be over $7000 CDN. And I see the 1080 G5x prices are also making some waves. The price increase isn't worth the performance increase. Similar to desktop 1070 vs. 1080. $540 vs. 900+.

Yep, two SKU's in the U.S.:

MSI GT83VR TITAN SLI-023 nVidia SLI GTX 1070

MSI GT83VR TITAN SLI-055 nVidia SLI GTX 1070

(Just a hunch......but something tells me neither of these will meet ole!!!'s expectation.)

    :)

I just covered this (with photo too) for U.S. SKU's on page #6 of this thread.... HERE. For those of other countries, look to your local MSI distributors for more information, as GT83VR SKU configurations, and components may vary. :)

Well, I believe the GT80S-072 still retails around $4200, so if priced for quick sale, you should still return a good amount to pocket. I did this 2 month ago, and soon I'll be enjoying my new GT83VR. It all depends on you, and what you can negotiate, so brush-up on your salesmanship. ;)

    :)

120Hz panels were in the plan, but unfortunately, the problem was in availability of such panels in 18.4". Whatever panel is used, it'll still be good. I'll post the panel and specs as soon as I get my hands on the notebook. :)

If it's the same panel as current titan, you can still OC it to 100hz or even more. I am surprised they managed to make the GT83 even thicker, but it is expected due to the cooling system.

Yeah, that is my thought too..... and I think you are right, that is exactly why the GT83 is thicker.

I was joking about my gt80s being a clunker lol. Waiting on my PSU adapter and firmware (yeah I know.... I'm 99.9% sure it wont happen). I'm going to cut out some red lining for my rear vents so I feel better

I'd say just sell it, it's outdated already with the 1060 outperforming the single M980

6820hk and 1080 sli combined with 3 fans mmm not bad!. we can probably only get it from a reseller thats willing to do this type of customization without msi's strict rule.

still waiting for a video to see the inside......

lmao, when i buy laptop i always look at cpu side of things, dual graphic is a plus for sure but not necessary. cpu/storage side my #1 reason and then cooling, which is related to cpu cooling. finally amount of space for any sort of custom mod would be nice.

    FYI:

For those interested, I have added content to first post of the thread, and you may want to bookmark this ( HERE) for future reference. This is a work-in-progress, so no need to be concerned with broken links, missing links, or the lack of data..... much more work to do. Also, take the hardware component data with a grain of salt. I'll correct this when I actually get my hands on the notebook.

    Enjoy!

    :)

Hi all. Is it safe to game with the lid closed on an external monitor wth a machine this powerful? I have the GT80 currently and when I do this I noticed the screen tends to warm up a bit from the section above the keyboard but not sure of its okay or not?

It's safe. If the system is overheating, then it's not so safe. Monitor your temps, and if you're in the 90s Celsius range, that's too hot.

Thank you so much! I usually stay within the mid to high 70's so it should be just fine then. I was just concerned when I noticed the screen itself getting a bit warm on occasion but nothing even remotely what I would call hot though.

So sounds good and thank you for the help!

This is one fine laptop, but a 1080p60Hz display doesnt fit at all with this laptop.
It also doesnt have hdmi 2.0
For this kind of laptop it would have been better to install a 17 inch 4k monitor. or a 17 inch 1080p120hz monitor. but the 1080p60hz doesnt fit at all.

It it were me i would have choosen a 2560x1440@144Hz with HDR. That would have been the killer rezolution and speed for this conffiguration. Or perhaps a 4k@75hz. THe card would have the proper connections. Otherwise it would have been the perfect gaming laptop.

THe other best bet is the gt73vr with 1070SLI and 120Hz monitor, but you dont get the mechanical keyboard.

Because of the ****ty 18 inch screen im inclined to wait some more. Hopefully something will come up. We need a hgih speed monitor in this laptop, preferebaly 4k120hz, or a 2560x1440@144Hz with HDR, this would be possible with display port 1.4

Yeah, MSI keeps waiting 1 generation longer than they should to fit appropriate engineering solutions, at least for a few items.

Power in the GT80S 980 SLI was lacking...CPU cooling needed improvement then...

Now the display options are sorely lacking for a 1080 SLI Flagship laptop....

Asus spent the $ required to get a better 18" 4k screen.

Too bad MSI couldn't source that screen, or commission their own. It should have been #1 on their list, right next to power, cooling, 1080 SLI... etc  :D

    Next model o_O

Hi Ken! I know this isn't the most appropiate place but I'd like to contact you to ask you some things about ordering and buying from you. I had some problems with the email you have given and it's a bit hard to get in touch with you because I am from Europe and there is a huge time zone difference. Would you mind chatting with me somehow for 10 minutes please? I couldn't find how to write you a personal message on this site.
