There is a 50-100$ difference in the models. The newer 5th Gen CPU laptops come with the " Slim - 8x Super Multi DVDRW/CDRW Combo Drive" as stock while the older 4th gen CPU laptops come with the " Slim - Blu-Ray Burner + DVDRW/CDRW Super Multi Combo Drive". The downgrade saves 50$ while the upgrade costs 100$. So lets just say the newer gen CPU's are 100$ more and not priced the same as older gen. That would be suicide as no one would then buy the ones with the older CPU. Not sure why Xoticpc has this weird pricing as it is confusing and will deter people from buying the older models.

Hello folks,
I've recently joined the GT80 club with the model seen here: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/184-...-16gb-ram-128gb-ssd-plus-1tb-hdd-6gb-dual-nvi
I love it to bits already (despite it being the lower spec) and as it's only running one SSD, intend to stuff a load more storage into to ASAP. However I've a couple of questions in regard to a couple bumps I've had with it so far.
If I have anything plugged into the USB ports upon switching it on, anything -at all-, it simply will not boot. The MSI logo will show on the screen and the fans will start to spin up progressively faster, but the little loading 'spinner' at the bottom never rears it's rotary presence. Has anyone else had this kind of issue? As well as that, sometimes it won't switch off on a shutdown and I'll have to hold down the power until it's off. No issues coming back on afterwards (bar the USB thing).
Secondly, can you folks confirm the SSD type that this thing eats - I'm guessing it's the '2280' versions of SSDs on Scan's site, I was intending on buying a couple of these for starters:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/250g...-500-mb-s-write-100k-iops-random-read-87k-iop
Thanks kindly! -
I've been enjoying my laptop for almost a month however I got one weird problem which started a week ago. Its related with wifi. Whenever I play online games such as LoL or CS:GO I got random ping spikes which occur sometimes every minute sometimes every few seconds. Reinstalling Killer drivers fixes the problem. However if I shutdown my computer and turn it on after few minutes same problem happens and I have to reinstall drivers again. Downloading speed is normal and everything is okay with web browsing. Anyone had similar problem or know how to fix it because it annoy me a lot.

If anybody else on here is like me and just recently purchased (2 weeks ago) their GT80 SLI-009 from Newegg, you will probably know about the recent announcement that next week MSI is releasing a new model with the 5th Gen chip. On Newegg's site you will also notice that the price for the 4980HQ version has dropped by $100. If your purchase was recent, you should try to call them and ask them to apply their price match guarantee and at least get a $100 back. It worked for me and ever so slightly helped reduce this recent onset of buyer's remorse I'm currently fending off. I didn't have any luck in getting them waive their restock fee so I could upgrade though.
Since this is the first time I've ever spent this kind of $$$ on any electronics, I have to keep telling myself that one of the main reasons I went top of the line was for this exact scenario, that what I have is still blinding fast and graphically amazing (albeit a little hotter than I'd like) and I've never had a laptop this good. After some gaming tonight I'm sure I'll be closer to wiping this remorse away...
Just saying! -

To open the top panel, I have to break the warranty sticker to access one of the two screws. Yes?
Someone said earlier that this does not necessarily void the warranty. Is this true? -

Also the 5th gen laptops priced similar to 4th gen laptops have a 980m 4gb in them compared to an 8gb one in the older gen laptops. I am talking specifically about Xoticpc and these models.
Newer 5th gen model: i75700 HQ, 980m 4gb, Slim - 8x Super Multi DVDRW/CDRW Combo Drive - 2099$
http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gt72-dominator-pro-g1438-p-8290.html?wconfigure=yes
Older 4th gen model: i74710HQ, 980m 8gb, Slim - Blu-Ray Burner + DVDRW/CDRW Super Multi Combo Drive - 2099$
http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-gt72-dominator-pro211-p-7593.html?wconfigure=yes
I believe the other resellers would also be doing something similar as these people price match very well and hence have very similar prices and config's.Last edited: Jun 3, 2015 -

Intel will want launch prices and nvidia have their G-Sync validation cost.

Okay I think I've fixed the problem. Deleted all killer drivers (Killer wireless and Killer ethernet). Installed drivers from MSI website. Then in device manager uninstalled Killer wireless driver. Restarted computer to make the drivers "magically" appear again. Then in Killer Network Manager -> Network unchecked Enable Bandwith control. It looks like everything is fine. Will look further in future if problem will happen again.porky133 likes this. -
Xoticpc is modifying internally just as you state above, MSI clearly states that both the 263 amd 253 models should be 8gb (each) 980m cards and BD Burner in their spec list.
As for a 4gb 980m I wasn't sure one existed on the MXM card I was thinking before those were only in BGA style boards but I could be wrong, 4gb wouldn't be enough though so I would back away especially if you plan on running any more than the internal panel. -
-
[QUOTE=" For gaming 4gb should be more than sufficient.[/QUOTE]
Will it work for today? Sure but you will be squeaking past in some of the latest titles already while running on the internal panel, in the future I only expect them to use even more vram as they will require more textures etc. If you are running games with multiple monitors you need even more vram as 4gb will not be enough especially when processing games across them or in stereoscopic views which the GT 80 supports. Then comes 1440p, 3k, 4k, 5k external monitors where 4gb will be very limited on one monitor as you increase pixel density let alone running multiple. So I am afraid only 4gb of vram won't be a good move for most people if they plan to keep or plan to sell, now if the individual thinks otherwise that's their decision but at least we have made them aware with our topic. -
The GT72 on the other hand (not the right thread but still clearing the fuss - Sorry) has both versions; the 4gb and the 8gb. -
Ok that does make more sense, but keep in mind in SLIx2 8gb cards are still only 8gb of vram since both cards duplicate the rendering image. You do not get 16gb of vram to use so when they advertise 16gb of vram thats what you have but in operation its still only 8gb to use.
No fuss at all so no worries. -
Anyone got the MSI GT80 with the newer gen CPU's yet? Would like to see some temps and benchmarks. Found a few posts that the newer CPU's are running hotter. Would like to know what exactly is the case.
-
One thing I did notice on the MSI specs is that the 263/5950hq will be clocked from 2.9ghz to 3.7hgz instead of 2.8ghz to 4.0ghz on the 4980hq so it might result in lower temps simply because of the lower clocks with the same performace if the 5% increase is true when running at full power. My question is what will all 4 cores be running at and are there any unlock bins to allow adjustments, I am sure you all wonder the same.
-
People shouldn't really focus on the temps for the new CPUs. The real prize will be the TDP. If the new CPUs take advantage of their 14nm and manage same clockspeeds at lower TDP, we have winners. I am particularly hopeful for the 5950hq. Though this probably means the 5700hq can run at 100% indefinitely, while being cooler than 4720hq, and still maintain a lead in performance.

hey guys I'm looking this beast up and cannot decide which specs I should go for
here are the differences in the options that I have..
GPU : SLI Dual GTX 970M VS SLI Dual GTX 980M
CPU : Sharkbay i7-4720HQ+HM87 VS Sharkbay i7-4980HQ+HM87
HDD : Super Raid-256GB SSD (M.2 SATA)+1TB (SATA) 7200rpm VS
1TB (SATA) 7200rpm VS Super Raid 256 GB*2SSD (M.2 SATA)+1TB (SATA) 7200rpm
what are the differences in these specs? please guide me as I like this model very much but I have no idea which specs to go for
sorry if I sound like a total noob and thank you for the answers in advance -

So far 3 pages into your thread and its giving me a headache lol, seems like an alien language to me..
I won't give up though!
However, if anyone can give me a nice sum up it would be cool, I'm very new at this and it is really hard for me :< -

I will do that anyways, thank you -

Serious noob question incoming, I apologize.
I got the 009, so it has two SSDs. My OS install is listed as 237gb, and the only other drive there is my hard drive. Does this mean it is listing the two SSDs as one combined drive? I would've expected 1 drive listed as ~128gb, and a separate one again as ~128gb.
Also how do I view the RAID setup and the manufacturer of the SSDs? -

Launch the IRST, and view the info section/tab. This will show all info related to the individual SSD's, comprising your RAID.
-
You can view and manipulate RAID on BIOS. Look up how to restart your machine to modify UEFI settings and you will see the information there. Be careful though, if you destroy the RAID you won't have an OS to boot up to.

How to make a recovery for the OS? Use a CD? -

Is there any way to set a repeat on the numpad? If I press and hold a button, it only sends once.

Been considering getting a gt80 to replace my Razer blade pro. I was wondering if the gt80 has better driver support and build quality?

Hey guys I posted that my SLI cannot be recognized two weeks ago and now I finally got my RMA'd GT80 back, the report says that they replaced the motherboard. Now the SLI problem is gone, but I realized that the booting is speed is unbelievably slow, it used to took 5-7 secs, now it's about 30, which is definitely not normal. However, the weird thing is rebooting speed is same as before, about 9 secs. Can someone please help me?

Hey guys,
New member here. My PC is getting a little dated, and after purchasing an Asus G751JY off amazon, I was very impressed with how cool and quiet it is, but was not that impressed with the performance. My goal was to replace my PC completely, and I wanted something that I can bring with me when I travel places (I hate being away from my PC). The Asus was barely an improvement over my PC, so I decided to return it to Amazon and shell out a bit more cash.
I did a lot of research and ultimately decided to go with the MSI GT Series GT80 Titan SLI-263. I'm excited to get it, it arrives Monday. In preparation, I've done 3dMark benchmarks on the Asus as well as my current PC. Can't wait to see the improved scores for my new baby.
I have read most of the posts in this thread and it appears that upon getting my laptop, if the temperatures are a bit too high for my liking, I might consider the following:
1. Turn off sport mode
2. Undervolt the CPU
Does anyone else have any advice for me that I may have missed?
In return, I will be happy to provide you with my benchmarks and temps for the new 5950HQ which seems to be so new that no one has posted any information on yet. -

Just looked it up - I found it quite interesting
Rebooting a computer through the menu option or the keystroke combination is sometimes referred to as a warm boot, perhaps because it is more gentle than the alternative cold boot (simply pressing the computer's power button once to turn it off and then again to turn it back on).
On the cold boot it's possible the computer was not recognizing the gpus or hard drive/RAID settings.
