Thanks Striker, I had already seen the disassembly manual, but it didn'help me. Otherwise, the video is just i was looking for. The screw seems to be the one just above the m.2 drives.
It's a pity that it be a sata2, but I already got another ssd from my old laptop. I supposse it wil be enough for gaming

Try Ebuyer, Scan, Overclockers, or Saveonlaptop. Some of them are out of stock, some ain't.

You're right. I buy it because I travel a lot, and don't have money for two computers. That's why I want the ONE computer I actually do use to have a nice quality screen. I am not able to lug a monitor everywhere. It's arguably the most important thing on a laptop because you use it 100% of the time you use your laptop.

I prefer to buy everything complete, so we shall see

Give it time, remember they had to call back the higher end ones to add it so they likely need to get the supply line properly sorted.

A few days late, but I wanted to say thanks. This worked perfectly. I have cloned drives before, but wanted to avoid it in this case since the laptop was new anyway. Went very smoothly. Now I need another drive though...amazing how fast you can fill up 500 GB with games.

Australian stock now has the 4890HQ's in the IPS (eDP wide angle) screens... november 12 is the date for all the other 980m GT72's will be available with the eDP screen.

they are out here in Oz now.... best to ask why the US MSI haven't yet

    http://www.affordablelaptops.com.au/contents/en-us/d486_msi-GT72-laptop-notebook.html

mid november is the real eta; he added a week ontop just to be safe

Hello all, new member here. I just saw your post fryise and wanted to confirm the IPS. I placed an order just yesterday before the website updated the information about the IPS, and pre-orders were due on November 21.... I've noticed pre-order dates have changed with IPS - but does this mean I will get the IPS or the older screen?

I think i found an affordable gt72 dominator pro with just 8gb of ram: can I use the accessible slot for another 8gb sodim in dual channel or is possible only with the hidden one beneath the keyboard?

$2800 for the cheapest SKU. Now we are approaching somewhat affordable level. Get one without SSDs and I'm a happy buyer.

Do you know what IPS display they will put in the GT72? LG? Samsung? Eizo?

I ordered an GT72 earler today for 20000kr (2700$ (20% import tax)) with the 980m and one 128gb ssd. Also got a free Nvidia choose your path game coupon :D

But maybe i'm going to order an ips screen in the future, and a "gtx 1180m".

Jeff is a pleasure to work with , hes been very understanding whenever i call him and I was the one to get him on the IPS bandwagon. we would of known earlier but the wholesalers here in australia were getting plastered at the melbourne cup. The shipping order form should be in end of week; so we will have a better idea if its on this shipment or next.

cant wait for mine either.... as you can see my old laptop in sig below (4gb ram not 8gb ram... typo LOL)... is not up for the cut :p

Alright, i really need to know this, as I take my laptop with me 85% of the time. To the owners of the GT72, how inconvenient is this to take around? on a daily basis?

Well, it's a 17" gaming notebook, so pretty much like any other, but it is lighter than most. I do not find it inconvenient at all..... but I am not a small person either.

If you carry any notebook for a long period of time you are going to feel fatigue for sure.
But if it's just short period you should have enough stamina to handle it... :D

Gamut rating is measured using an equipment, but not by installing a software onto the computer.

You can put both systems side by side and display identical images, then take nice and clear pictures for direct comparison.

I'm loving this laptop. However, I wish there was a way to switch GPU outside of the OS. In BIOS for example. That way we would be able to do that for non-Windows OSes too.

That's a very good idea and should be suggested to MSI for improvement, because it can be done easily.

i bought the targus xl17, which is large enough for the gt72 and my gt60 and their powerbricks, with room to spare.

This is the backpack I have been using since the m17x r3. The Gt72 is a little smaller so it fits nicely.

    Thanks Ken!

I notice the CPU temps are 10C or more higher, than the 4710HQ. Are those temps with the factory paste? I think I would want to check the application, and re-paste with some ICD.

Finally IPS screen models are in :)
Yeah temps seem to be a bit higher but still pretty decent, not sure why they are that much higher considering the use the same voltage.
Might have to rethink getting a 4980HQ model and hope IPS screens become available with the base models too.

it might be the paste or it just might be the chip itself.

the max "powers" numbers for that 4980, especially in 3dmark seem to be 10-25% higher than my 4710. thats with my 4710 is pushed to 200 watt turbo-power-limit via xtu.

my ambient is 74f which is 23c

It was tested with stock paste, everything out of the box.

I'll test with ICD later. :)

    yeah finally it's here. :)

I think it's the clock speed of 4980HQ makes the temperature runs hotter.

Hi guy, thank for the replies in the last few days.
In the end, surprisingly I found a 980m gt72 for a fair price (2200€ for 4710hq 32gb ram 256 ssd no ips configuration) in my local store.
So yeah, can't wait for Tuesday to come!!! :)
