I'd love to check it out, though I don't have my laptop yet. It should be shipping soon :) I really dig the look though. Nice and easy to use :) I love the NBR community. You are all awesome!

    Hey Cats and Kittens,

Just wanted to see what everyone might have for a suggestion on a backpack for this beast of a laptop. I was hoping my previous 17" bag would carry it, but it's just a tad bit to tight, so I've been looking at getting maybe an 18" backpack just to carry it around in.

As far as the spacebar issue I've been having, I decided to take off the spacebar from the keyboard and just look to see if something was in there, nothing I could see but ever since, I've not noticed any noise. Sadly I've not had enough time to truly test out the system for gaming as school work and new baby on the way has taken over most of my time.

    Thanks!

I've got this one: Amazon.com : Targus Drifter II Backpack Designed for 17-Inch Laptop TSB239US (Black/Gray) : Laptop Computer Backpacks : Electronics and it works pretty well. It's a big bag for a big machine. It pretty much completely covers my back. The laptop fits snugly, but not tight.

I saw that one in Staples yesterday and wasn't sure without having the laptop with me if it would fit or not thanks. Do you have any issues with the zipper passing the machine when you go to zip it up or out? That's my problem with the current bag it does fit it snugly but when you go to use the zipper I worry it's going to scratch the laptop.

Interesting about the BIOS they sent Toms the day after the review wrap up.

Being able to draw more power from the PSU is a good thing and even better if you bought the 240W Dell PSU .

Most people will not need it if running the stock CPU and not going too crazy overclocking the GPU but at the same time having the extra headroom on the PSU is a nice thing at the end of the day.

What!!!! I just got my 240w PSU! I want those bios now!!!! Its not that NOS doesn't work for me in games or that I get thorttling, but I can see it being a problem down the road when the battery begins to fail. Or what if I decide to upgrade to an XM CPU?

The Tom's Hardware review is a HUGE departure from the Anandtech article, isn't it. It's refreshing to see a more honest and tested review for a change.

Anandtech GT70 Dragon 2 Review = MAJOR FAIL!

..... and this is what you get with thorough, clear, and concise testing:

Tom's Hardware Dragon 2 (GT70 2OD) Review = MAJOR WIN - WIN! (And my beautiful Dragon 2 Edition too, no less!)

Albeit, the Dragon 2 tested in this review features the 4930MX, Tom's Hardware clearly outlines why I chose the 4900MQ.

Also, regarding PSU, I fully concur with Quadzilla here...... most folks will not need a higher-watt PSU, but I feel Tom's Hardware says it best for the Gamer/Enthusiast:

    EXCELLENT review Tom's Hardware!

    :)

YES!!!! I am seeing 4.2Ghz rock stable although I didn't see my highest video scores using all 4 cores at that speed.

Many thanks Talon for the links to the 240W and adapter that are currently out of stock but will be back in about 2-3 weeks.

I know, I waited and was just a couple of hours too late before ordering. :(

I ended up with a Pelican case, the 1495CC1. There is enough room for the laptop, power supply and cables, and my space navigator, but not much else.

Aww man I'm sorry about that! I ordered 2 of the tip adapters just in case one broke down the road. But the fit is nice and snug and it is great quality. I am not worried about it failing now. It was quick shipping also. No worries.

Id prefer a straight plug anyhow. Wish they kept the old style but i guess everyone wanted an angled one. Angled plugs are great for the side if the power port is there but if you move your machine around abit then the angled plug in the back stinks cause it just falls straight down and you and up either setting the machine on the back plug which is not good or you have to hold the plug at an angle before you set it down or lastly plug it in after you put it down. With the straight plug none of that would be happening lol. Set it and forget it ....

Question: what happens when the CPU goes hot? Does the fan override the program and spin up if it hit a certain temperature to protect the CPU? Or GPU for that matter?

Also, I guess that the firmware is reset back to its original after a reboot on the machine? If yes, is there a way to automatically run the program with your desired setting once the machine is turned on again?

Thanks for doing an amazing job :)

App is manual control of fan so overrides auto settings but there are some safeguards built in. Silent mode will be overidden by stock fan if cpu temp goes above 65 oC. Other modes will be overidden by stock fan if cpu temp goes above 80 oC. GPU approx 75 oC (applies to 60% and below). 70%-80%+ will be faster than stock fan profile max speed so wont be overidden.

Cooler boost button on your laptop will overide the app setting when pressed. If you turn cooler boost off, the fan will return to previous app setting.

However i recommend you keep an eye on your temps. Normal gpu, cpu thermal safety throttles still apply.

On reboot of computer fan settings will reset to auto.

Currently no save your profile setting exists so you have to set app up each time you use it.

    Dave,3 suggestions:

1-put in the lower right corner or someplace visible the version number ie v1.2
2-since it works with more models than the GT70,change the app name
3-Change name of download folder from generic setup.exe to Fan_Control.exe

HEY, I like the name! He's a GT70 2OD owner, it was written for the GT70 2OD..... GT70 2OD's are special, and you other guys don't really matter...... you're just lucky it works for you too!

(I'm not changing how it's named in the lead post!)

    1. Feature is already there. You can see the version number by right clicking anywhere in the app. Then click "about".

Hi everyone. I am now joined in the community of people who own the GT70-2OD laptop. However, I tried to install windows 7 ultimate from a disc, but it isn't working. It is saying windows can't install from my partition. I've tried going from RAID to UEFI trying every driver on the disk I could find. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work, and there is no backup for windows 8 to put back on. I am currently looking at my $2700 paperweight and would greatly appreciate any advise that any of you have to offer.

I am out of options and can't do anything else right now.

So you didn't make a widows 8 USB backup and or DVD backups from the system restore program ?.

If not and for the moment to get windows 8 up and running again you can download the 4 disks for the MSi factory install and it should rebuild your system to factory condition.

Thankfully this guy posted them to share.

It's right towards the top of the page you will see DVD 1-4 for download.

Those discs are universal between the 15 and 17 inch model.
