So, is anyone doing any kind of heavy duty overclocking of the MSI 16L13 with 6700K CPU? I'm looking for some benchmarks to see how far this little guy can be pushed and what delidded 6700K temps look like at 4.8GHz.

After I get my P870DM3 I may want to sell my P750ZM and replace it with one of these if the overclocking is robust and the temps are manageable. -

But, that's why I am asking about this MSI. It looks very interesting and I am intrigued by it. It's almost impossible to do a "try before you buy" with most laptops and I'm not trilled about taking risks with my money. Maybe when I am ready to make a decision @EurocomTechspert would let me do a insane overclocking review on a Tornado F5 and if it passes all of my testing I can buy it instead of sending it back. Got to get my EVOC P870DM3 with @Prema goodness first though.Last edited: Oct 7, 2016Papusan likes this. -
I think the cooling in Eurocom Tornado F5 have headroom for more than 4.0 GHz Time for testing And 6600K with same clockspeed will be less hot than 6700Khmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
So after I froze up trying to get to 4.8ghz.. XTU nor ThrottleStop will let me go past 4.1ghz now.. No matter what multi I set, it's stuck at 4.1ghz. So testing has halted thus far. I was stable with stock voltage at 4.7 it seemed so far tho.
Edit: Had to reset the EC controller..
Next issue is that if I set a static voltage, everything freaks out and the CPU will only run at 1.2ghz. Seems like there might be a overvoltage protection or something set up to where you can manually specify it :/
If I let it do auto voltage, it will automatically up the voltage for every time I up the multiplier.. It's around 1.35volts at 4.7ghz but it's not very stable like I thought, it crashes pretty quickly now.
Looks like 4.6ghz is my tops right now.Last edited: Oct 7, 2016 -

That being said, the stock BIOS has no features and is very basic.. no OC controls at all.. everything has to be done via software at the moment.Spartan@HIDevolution, hmscott, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Again, I really appreciate the effort. Maybe I can get one for some overclock testing at some point. That would be fun.hmscott likes this. -
Does this machine have AMI/Aptio BIOS or something else? -

We still need the original flashable bios. -
Is it AMI/Aptio BIOS or something else?
Many OEMs do not distribute laptop BIOS files, and one of the reasons they do not is to keep us from doing what needs to be done to make it work the way we want it to. They are very protective and want to control everything. So, I am not surprised that they are not giving that to you. -

And you haven't access to force max fans? What with Hwinfo manuel fan control? -

I am able to set a static voltage, but like my desktop it adds an offset on its own. For example on my desktop I run 1.17v for 4.2ghz on my 5820k, but real world windows reported voltage may go a tad higher than that around 1.20v.
I will do further testing to see how low I can set the static voltage at stock and then work up form there.Mr. Fox likes this. -

ThrottleStop may also let you increase your cache ratio if MSI hasn't locked that down. You have to set that for each profile. It does not apply globally. Keep the cache ratio equal to or less than core multiplier ratio. Set the minimum and maximum cache ratio equal.

Speaking of battery. is it possible if you just pull out the socket of the battery (just the ac adapter) if you're just going to put the nb at home for sometime? -

I was at auto and max fan speed.. I don't consider max fans to be a realistic use case scenario and never will as in, if you need to use max fans just to be able to handle temperatures, you probably shouldn't be using those clocks. -
My point was that at 4.6 and 4.7 it would only downclock when it bounced off 100c.. Before 100c it wouldn't ever. It's only reacting to the Proc Hot command.. In throttlestop I had BD Proc Hot turned off which i think attempts to keep it from downclocking before it hits 100c. -
Looking at the inside of that machine (from the photos on Eurocom web page and their YouTube video) it looks like the heat sinks might be fairly easy to mod as well. I could see adding a couple of additional heat pipes and then adding copper plates to bridge all of the existing pipe should not be too difficult and I'd bet that would make a huge difference in cooling. I did a similar mod to the 980M SLI heat sinks in the Sky X9 to keep the 180W 980 SLI from burning up and it worked quite well. As far as I can tell, it looks like those mods would still fit under the bottom cover.Talon likes this. -

Honestly, I don't see a legitimate reason for the BGA model to even exist, LOL. Looks like the same thing with a crippled CPU in place of the good one. I sure do wish MSI would do this with all of their retail channel notebooks. The world would be a better place. -

Crysis3 first game that locks up my system when cpu is at 4ghz and 1070 stock speeds.. I must be hitting the PSU power limit.

I've had both the GT62VR retail and this barebones as well and I can say there is simply no comparison in performance/dollar. The barebones is a far superior product. Eurocom barebones with no logo is more reserved and more refined.
I hope MSI realizes the potential they have with this system and improves upon it on next gens. I'm looking forward to swapping out my CPU for a Kaby Lake. -
I also haven't tried that game. -
