    Hi guys,

I have recently acquired (two days ago ) this amazing machine. My model:

    MSI GS63VR 7RG i7-7700HQ / GTX 1070 Max-Q / 16GB / 512GB SSD+1Tb /

My screen is FHD and the first of my two questions is related with:

    1. How I know if is TN or IPS? is mate and I see some whites as a few blue feeling (as in amoleds), but I have read some reviews about two different FHD screens: TNN (IPS level??!!) and IPS.
We all know that UHD screen is IPS.
I tried this test and I see all same colour...but it's maybe cause is an excellent TN display (far worse than a regular IPS I think).

    2. Yesterday night, I saw that the percentage of the battery was 98% and not charging. The laptop always has been connected to the charger. 0 seconds with only battery. so...how is it possible with only 5h using it and always with charger?? I tried the battery calibration and I went to sleep cause the process of discharging the battery was about 3 hours... I have seen this morning the laptop turned off...so I don’t know what I will see when I turn on...I will tell you

    Thanks in advance!!

It is a 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) 120Hz 3ms 94% NTSC Matte LCD. These are TN screens, but they are nothing like the old TN screens as you can see by looking at it.

IPS-level are not TN screens. There are 3 manufacturers that make essentially the same screens with very similar technology, but each with their own Trademarked name. There is LG IPS, Samsung PLS and AU AHVA...these are all "IPS-level" screens, but they are much slower for gaming at either 60Hz-25ms, or 120Hz-25ms.

It is quite normal for your charging system to stop charging your battery at anywhere between 92~100%. This should not be a concern.

Thanks a lot for your answer Donald@HIDevolution. Well, I would like that was IPS cause I am not a hardcore gamer, and I am not used to the "blue colors". Anyway this screen has its own merits :)

And related to the battery, so It does not matter the fact of 98%. I understand that is a security measure in order to avoid the stress of charging the last percentage before full charge.

Someone has a color setup that could improve the “feeling” of the TN Pannel. I saw in a review some setups that (in theory) improve the view.

    Beautiful machine.

Well here the review where I read about improve the color reproduction:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-G...070-Max-Q-Full-HD-Laptop-Review.267802.0.html

You can read the paragraph starts with:
" By means of our color profile, the color reproduction can be improved. However before downloading it",...

But I don't see what they mean with download the color profile...

    Hi guys,

I recently got the gs63vr and have a similar issue to what klondiked and sixk mentioned earlier.

The chassis bulges at the back, enough that when open the gap between the screen and the hinge almost disappears. The bulge extends down to the middle of the keyboard. There is also a 2-3mm gap in the joint on the right.
I have a couple of photos but not sure how to attach them.

Has anyone else had this? Is it likely to be a refurbished item being sold as 'new'?
I looked around online and only found a couple of people with a similar problem. If this is not a common thing then I may have it replaced. Would they even accept this as a defect? Any advice?

This is a UK version btw (GS63VR 7RG-048UK with the 1070 and 512GB SSD).

    Thanks.

Hi guys i have these 2 options:

    • 2017 Newest MSI GS43 Phantom pro-069 14" Ultra thin Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 – 7700hq GTX 1060 16 GB 128 GB SSD + 1TB VR Ready
    • MSI gs63vr Stealth pro-078 15.6" 120 Hz 3 Ms Ultra thin and portable gaming laptop i7 – 7700hq GTX 1070 8 G 16 GB 256 GB SSD + 1 TB
The one with the 1070maxq is like 700 dollars more expensive than the first one.
Which one would you recommend? is it worth? Is it much faster the 1070mq than the 1060?

With those 700bucks i guess i can even buy an external 1080card and save some money..

The idea is to pick one of those + a PG348q monitor from Asus, ultrawide one.

Bonus Question about G-sync: Can i do Gsync with any of those laptops on an external monitor?
I saw in a youtube video that its ok with the 1070mq, and i also read some coments that with the 1060 can not be achieved.

    Regards!

It is hard to make any recommendation without knowing what you are going to use the laptop to do.

What applications are you going to use?

With that extra saving of $700 I can get a good monitor and still maintain a very usable performance.

Anyone notice that 3D screensavers like ms bubbles or ribbons or any of the rss screensavers only run properly with the MSI supplied 382.05 drivers. I’m driving a 4K hdmi 2k dp and the laptop screen. Any updated driver displays only black when trying to use.

Which version did you use? Have you tried the clean install option from the driver?

I’ve tried all whql releases since, up to 391.01. Clean installs each time. I opened a call with nvidia, answer from them was yeah, those max-q gpus are highly specialized by our oems. Don’t update your drivers.

I suspect max-q leverage cpu and memory in a synergistic fashion and that they weren’t taken into account when Spectre patches were added. My older msi with a 980m gt72 dominator doesn’t have this problem.

You have to read the fine print :) The link is at the end of the side note for the "Distribution of brightness" graphic - "XRite i1Pro 2... etc" then " https://www.notebookcheck.net/uploads/tx_nbc2/GS63.icm"

Guys, I'm thinking to replace my Eurocom F5 with a thinner solution like GS63VR and 1060/1070 to carry around, plus a powerful eGPU to use at home with a dedicated 2k/4k monitor.
In another topic I see that a very cool brother of the GS63 is coming, with the new Coffee Lake CPU. https://www.computeruniverse.net/products/90723149/msi-gs65-8re-079-stealth-thin.asp
According to you, should I wait this month to see how this new baby is performing and buy it? In Italy I'm encountering difficulties to get the GS63 available and they are selling the remaining laptops with 300€ discount, so I expect to see a replacement in stock.

P.s: it seems to be, according to the smaller size of the corners, the removal of keypad and the bigger battery (82 vs 63), that the 2nd hard drive has gone away.

BOOM! New GS63 Coffee Lake available from today, too!

I have issue with my GS63VR 7RG. I like to work on it holding it in one hand. And now bottom part bent down :( And metal under ethernet port burst because of it.. Does anyone have same issue? And also really interesting swap stock keyboard to keyboard from GS63 8RE (with backlight for each button). Maybe somebody here knows is there any difference in cases and keyboards between 7RG and 8RE? Thanks to everyone

If it's under warranty then let MSI takes care of it, but they may ask you for the details so be ready for it.

The keyboard on 8RE is steel series per light RGB and the motherboard is different, so I'm not sure that they would be interchangeable.

It's best to check with MSI service center directly because there are differences that we may not know about.

I'm curious as well. It's interesting to compare service centers from other locations. The US service center is great!

Hey guys so I recently bought the gs63 stealth thin 010 and for some reason the battery is running down pretty quickly simply idling with just one tab opened in google chrome. I have checked the battery and there are so signs of wear on it and I have set the laptop to eco mode.
