I did a repaste with Kryonaut on CPU and GPU and with 3,6 Ghz on all cores I'm still hitting like 94º on BFV. OW or other games don't get much past 80...

Don't know If I should do the repaste again or what...

I didn't use any thermal pads, Only kryonaut on CPU + GPU

I though about Liquid Metal, but I'm afraid about degradation and other problems I've read... like if you move the computer a lot It can break things and so....

Did anyone get a Intel digital download code with their purchase of the GE75? If so did it work? I've tried to redeem it but I can't because the Intel web site seems not to be working.

Put the Gelid on (PITA to work with) and max temp after 3 rounds of World of Tanks was 74C, so a decent drop and my GPU went down from 71C to 69C
Warplanes was a max of 67C, nice real world drops.

Does someone have a MSI Afterburner curve for undervolting the RTX 2070 which I could use for orientation? :)

Loving my GE75, with LM and fuji pads im seeing about 85 degrees on the heaviest loads.

quick question though, i often watch youtube videos on the hotel bed just on the speakers. The speakers are nice but i have it cranked to 100% all the time and im surprised they aren't louder. Does anyone know of any software or a way to push them a little harder?

    Thanks

after recent windows updates i noticed sound levels got really really low, what i did that actually fixed it is i installed an old driver (6.0.1.8186) which really got the volume loud again reinstalling the stock driver didnt help for me. guess latest windows updates messes with the system.

I am looking to buy this laptop, but I have a question I am hoping someone can answer. How long is the cord from the brick to the tip? I have been seeing some shorter ones lately from Asus where the cord is only around 3 foot long.

Enjoying my GE so far, despite some hiccups.

When I try to wake the laptop from sleep, I need to press the power button, and it takes 8ish seconds including the MSI splash screen, which doesn't seem normal.
    Any fix to this?

Hi. This is my first post on these forums.

I received my GE75 with 2080 last friday. Been installing stuff and tweaking it for the few last days. Some random thoughts:

Gaming performance wise it's an incredible machine. Battlefield plays with +100 fps on ultra settings. Haven't tested many other demanding games, but very impressed with the performance.

The machine works nicely with an external monitor. My Asus PG278QR runs G-sync via laptop's minidisplayport as well. Battlefield hits 100ish fps even with the 2k resolution with the external monitor.

The processor did get hot right out of the box, my max temps hit 98 celsius when playing BF5. I downloaded throttlestop, undervolted and limited turbo clocks to 3,6 GHz, and processor temps dropped for 10 celsius. Max temps on Battlefield are now 88-90, averaging at 80ish and idle temps go under 50. GPU max temps while playing battlefield are at 80, average temps are naturally lower. I haven't done a repaste and with these temps it really seems I might not have to.

Biggest problem for me seems to be the fan noise. Other less demanding games run pretty quietly, but Battlefield really ramps up the fans. I have experimented with the advanced fan profile in dragon center, but I'm not completely sure how low is it safe to take the fans. Is going below 60% fan speed at max temps dangerous? I kept observing the temperatures while lowering the fan speeds and didn't notice a difference there while gaming.

I've got a question anyone with the GE75 and the 2080 can you take the ram that's under the heatpipe out without removing the entire cooling assembly? And is the second M.2 slot only sata or can you run dual nvme + the 2.5 drive?

It's not easy, but you can take out the RAM without removing the cooling assembly; also I have 2 x 1TB Samsung 970 NVMe's in RAID 0 with a 2TB Samsung 860, it works beautifully!

Could you install the second NVME without removing the heatsink? since the pipe goes over the screw area?

I ordered it with both NVMe's installed, but I recall someone earlier in the thread saying they were able to do it, but it wasn't easy.

It isn't hard. The drive just has to be carefully slid under the heat pipe. A thin neck phillips screw driver with a magnetic tip is a huge help. The head of the screw is just small enough to clear or slightly rub the heat pipe going in.

Messing with the msi bios can raise the 8750h power limit...very significant if temps are under control

MSI and Asus coincidentally are the manufacturers who were shipping RTX laptops with single channel.
They arent going to admit thats what causes the fps drop issue.
But they are shipping with 2 sticks in dual channel now and no surprise problem solved..

can owners of GE75 8SG RTX2080 confirm if the 280W PSU is enough to power this laptop? i've seen somewhere the laptop battery drains even when under gaming load.

also, the CPU performance and cooling are quite poor even for i7 8750H, and when undervolt does not do much to help. is this true?

the lack of interest for this model is somewhat worrying considering this laptop offers amazing value relative to its performance. seems like there's a catch somewhere and it looks like CPU is one of them

The battery goes to 85% or so some times when plugged in, but not below that. I read somewhere that is quite normal tho. Doesn't affect performance either.

I undervolted and lowered the turbo clocks on my CPU and my max temps lowered for 10C. I placed a book under the laptop to get a better airflow and the temps dropped another 5C. Atm my CPU hits max 85 under heaviest loads and the performance is great. I would say the cooling is nice on this laptop. I'm running my GE75 with the stock thermal paste. Based on my own experience so far, it seems to be one hell of a machine performance wise, dunno what those rumors are about.

thanks for the feedback. seems like the 280W PSU is really not enough to power RTX2080+8750H under gaming load. going down to 85% is actually quite severe. My previous Alienware with GTX 1080 + i7 7820HK both overclocked will only occasionally drain battery to around 95% under severe benchmark loads. but then again that is on 330W PSU.

I wonder if GE75 8SG is compatible with Alienware's 330W PSU... has anyone tried it?

about poor cpu performance, this is where i saw it from

you can take a look at see if it's comparable to yours.

I'm not an expert on the subject so I wonder what's so severe about going down to 85%? I haven't noticed any fps drops while gaming and the machine is running very smoothly. I have seen that review too. I agree that the CPU might be the bottleneck on some games, but for example Battlefield V runs stable 100+ fps on highest settings on my GE75. It is really heavy game for processor to handle, so Ithink the results are actually very nice. The 2080 makes it possible to run the game on higher resolutions with almost the same fps on my external monitor too.

i guess the actual problem comes when the battery is degraded over time and could not hold as much charge or as high voltage as a new one? that underpowered PSU is going to trip. anyway, this issue is probably a few years down the line, just looking ahead of time. it will be great if a 330W PSU can also power this laptop, then it wont have to depend on battery as much.

as for that review, it basically says even with undervolt, the 8750H performs far worse than other laptops with constant throttling. i wonder if it's a poorly optimised BIOS or if the PSU is holding it back

This morning I spend some time on Throttlestop and got a quite good result:

By setting cpu offset voltage -180mV
    cpu cache voltage to -160mV
    igpu voltage -100mV

I was able to acheive 1257 in R15

of course in long run the score was only between 1100-1200, but I think it is quite remarkable result as it requires no change to the bios.

The temperature never goes over 84 degrees Celsius even it was full-loaded in BFV at 3.9Ghz.

Only compliant is that when I try to set the cpu cache voltage to - 180mV, I freeze my laptop.

After a hard reset, the laptop hang in the MSI logo.

Resetting through pushing the little hole underneath the laptop didn't help, I had to open up the laptop, remove the additional 16GB Ram and the m.2 Sata so that the laptop cannot be restarted.

Anyone having similar problem as mine?

The fact is that MSI and Asus really ships the gaming laptop in one single channel ram this generation.

The review is fair since MSI decided to ship the default product this way.

Just trying to give some people another option to look at.

If you're interested in a laptop the size of the Raider, check out the Eluktronics Mech 17. The thermals on this chassis are insanely good for something this size.

You can get one with a 1tb SSD 16gb Dual Channel and a 2070 for $1900.

Side note. The speakers aren't anywhere near as good as the Raider.

Yes I can give u my settings, I have some records of the best scores and FPS ingame around with a RTX 2070.
But keep in mind im using dual channel.

If u wanna, here is it. I locked mine

It does help if u repast ur laptop. Even with LM u need to undervolte.

Yes RTX 2080 needs 320W so the 280W will limit ur power alote!

Yes, if I close all explorer windows and restart the process, it's fine for a while, but eventually goes back up; It's definitely a Windows problem, not MSI, but I haven't found a solution yet.

Actually it's an easy fix. I had the same problem and was about to do a clean install. I searched this threat and found that you need to uninstall the Optane Pinning Extension under Add or Remove Programs. It fixed the issue instantly. Reboot after you uninstall it and you should be good. Give it a try.

anyone getting very unstable frametime spikes with silent option? basically, after a while frametimes become incredibly unstable and restarting silent option fixes it. tested games: apex, overwatch, csgo

edit: the problem doesnt even appear by closing silent option and not using it at all before gaming

Recently I’m having some BSOD due to some aggressive downvoltage.

The problem is that my laptop wont boot after crash (freeze in MSI Startup screen), even I use the tiny hole at the back of the laptop.

Only solution to unfreeze my laptop would be open up the laptop, remove the nvme ssd I added and restart the computer. Everything would be fine after that, even I plug back my nvme ssd.

Anyone has any idea on this issue?

    Thanks!

My temps for CPU and GPU are currently around 80C with the highest loads. I'm pretty happy with that, but they keyboard tends to get pretty hot. Is that normal on new generation laptops with hardware this powerful? I know that repasting would lower temps of the GPU and CPU, but would that help with the keyboard as well or is the heat coming from the heatsinks?

I’m gonna sell my GE75 because of it.

I’ve opened the laptop three times in order to remove the nvme ssd to get the laptop restart properly.

Too annoying to get the laptop freeze because of software issue which require a hardware fixing.

The only quick fix is to disable quick boot and enable UEFI with CSM
