Anyone check and see if this laptop will be compatible with W11? apparently your gonna need that for direct storage and related technologies.

Now if mine would ever show up. you would think after a year of covid they could figure out how to ship crap. -

i was thinking the 11800H/3070 for almost half the price. -
-
Nice, Yea, I am looking at it more and more and the one I ordered is getting less appealing. especially with all the stuff about to start coming out with all the different companies. I cant really drop top dollar on a computer and sit on it till something comes out 2x the perf like 6-8years later.
I think i'll shift to what gets me the best results at 1080P120fps or 4k60+ and buy based off that.....or well what gets me to that rather.Last edited: Jul 6, 2021 -

I'm not getting usb-c power btw -.-
Using same cable and usb-c power adapter that worked on the asus duo 15 se, surface laptop 3. Can deliver 100watts, so don't know why it doesn't work in the MSI GE 76 Tiamat (3070/11980hk) -
I'm not 100% sure but I think the type C port is just a thunderbolt with DP pass through.
I don't think you can actually charge the laptop with it. -

Oh -.-
Gotcha
Well that sucks!
Thanks! -

The 11980HK is super overpriced for what it does, would only be worth it if it gave more cores/threads than the 11800H, and the 3080 isn't even 20% faster than the 3070.
$4,000 USD is an insanely bad investment into a gaming laptop. You'd be better off buying the 11800H/3070 SKU, then buying a new laptop with an RTX 4000 series GPU in 2023. You'd end up spending the same $4k but come out far ahead in the end.NuclearLizard likes this. -
Yea, thats what I am thinking on doing now.
Though at 4k, I could probably get the 3080 version. Lol
Edit2 I am completely dumb and misread what you posted. I get where you are coming from.
A large part of my interest in the 3080 version is I get a grant for 2k from work for a computer each contract period and the 3080 one is the only one that isn't showing out of stock. Lol
Edit: especially since I am hearing from all the leaders and rumor mongers there has been fires lit under some arses, and things are gonna start speeding up.Last edited: Jul 10, 2021 -
Afternoon Folks,
I've just picked up the GE76 11UH. Very nice machine. Really impressed with the build quality. It's replacing a GT72 from 2015 - I budget £1k per year for laptop upgrades so I thought I'd give it a try. I've got 10 days to decide whether to sent it back.
[I'd previously got the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17, but a couple of keys failed 4 days after Overclockers DOA policy kicked in. ASUS failed to repair it so managed to get a refund - after two months.]
I'd hoped with Thunderbolt 4 I'd be able to drive my two 1920x1200 monitors when working from home. However, it only seems to be able to drive 1920x1200 @ 60Hz and 1680x1050 @ 60Hz along side the laptop 1080P display... Does that seem right?
Additionally, if I switch to discrete GPU the Thunderbolt display port doesn't work at all - and to be fair the switching software does tell me that.
On a related point from an earlier post there doesn't appear to be power delivery via TB4/USB-C on any of the port. Obviously, that wouldn't provided enough power to game but still...
Starting to think I should be sending this back for yet another refund...Last edited: Jul 11, 2021 -
Hey, so I don't have my hands on mine yet, but the research I did is pointing at a few things.
-TB4 resolution and discreet graphics issues.
I'm pretty sure thunderbolt in this model runs directly off of the CPU due to the way tigerlake splits its PCIE lanes.
-TB4 power delivery.
Pretty much the same thing. I think it's pretty much a data port that runs off the CPU. -
Sorry for the double post.
My ge76 came in. So far when I can get things to work it's great. It seems to be getting a lot of software issues. Like GeForce can't detect and optimize games.
Or discord will randomly throw Java errors.
Also did anyone else's machine come suspiciously barren of bloatware?
I'm thinking a bad image. I'm gonna format it and check. -

I ordered mine July 10th from memory express. And it came in the 13th.
I originally ordered from HID back in MAY but MSI never sent them anything. And Amazon started saying sept 30th for the same model.
Also I'm not sure what's going on with it. Windows won't load gaming services or gaming services.net so gamepass is functionally a brick.tamanaco likes this. -

The test system for today’s benchmarking is the MSI GE76 Raider, a similar laptop belonging to the same product family that we looked at when testing the Core i9-10980HK.
Verdict. It’s hard to get excited about the i9-11980HK.

FEATURE By Tim Schiesser, July 15 TechSpot Hardware
The Core i9-11980HK is the top processor in Intel's mobile stack, so let's find out how it performs against Ryzen 9 and the more mainstream Core i7-11800H which is often available in the same systems.

Just bought the GE76 Raider 11UH at my local microcenter. The 11800H is way ahead of the 10875H in my previous GE76. In black ops, where I'm mostly CPU bound, I saw a good 30 fps boost. It's also way, way faster in gaming over the 5900HX system I tested with the same GPU. Updated to the 165w vbios from MSI and seeing timespy GPU scores just under 14K and CPU scores around 11.5K, which beats pretty much everything on the market that isn't an 11900K DTR.
Here is my timespy result so far:

Just noticed that the 11800H is overclockable to 4.6ghz all core, which is amazing. Currently running 4.6 on all 8 cores with a -40mv undervolt.

What utilities are you using?
Edit: I should probably ask, does anyone know where I can get a known good image? I'll pay for it if I have too.Last edited: Jul 19, 2021 -
With that kind of performance delta I will deal with all of the minor tweaking that comes with the package.
Consoles are still cool for the exclusives, Playstation 1st-party especially, but go console only I could neeeever. -

Another tip. MSI true color out of the box ruins the display and makes it appear dim. Play around with true color or get rid of it. Reviewers found that true color was only letting the screen max out around 200 nits while without it they were hitting 320 to 340 nits (360hz panel)
