Well, it's just Cinebench 20 its test lasts for a short time. In Battlefield V i'm getting 87-90C with some rare thermal throttling.
I'm on stock paste with -0.145 undervolt. Nothing special.

I would be happy to do this, but it looks like these sliders do nothing for me in TS and XTU. Maybe Acer did some deeper lock-in BIOS. And Acer never releases unlocked bios for its machines...

Rare thermal throttling with stock paste in BF V is really good actually. Can't really expect much more from these thin laptops.

Can you guys recommend an evelope-type bag for MSI Stealth? I'm looking for something minimalistic, what I can later put into my backpack.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FBOIYU8/ is what I use when I travel. I feel my backpack has enough protection day to day for short trips but I'll toss it in here for extended trips.

It's not a true hard case, but the lip that surrounds the edge can provides a bumper if your backpack happens to have a hard landing. It's not crush proof but it does provide a little protection on the outer edges. For a cheap case, works fine.

Just had an MSI GS65 with RTX2060 delivered. In the process of setting it up. First impressions are positive. Quite impressed with how thin and light it is. Construction is not too bad. Not quite up to par with a Macbook or Razer Blade, but a decent effort. Just in the process of setting it up. Not impressed that the 512gig SSD came partitioned. Had to delete the D: partition which took me a while of messing around trying to remember how to do it. Not sure why MSI would of set it up that way.

I think a hard case would be good to protect this thing when travelling with it. Saw a suggestion above, also considering the Thule Gauntlett hard case, anyone use this one yet? Does it fit the GS65 well?

I have this version of the Thule Gauntlet case's which you can still find from certain vendors and it fits this laptop perfectly with room for the charging cable/mouse/etc--I really like it's compact size and construction. Not sure if other versions of the Gauntlet (ex 3.0) will fit or not:

In XTU, under voltage config section, there will be a slider whose value by default will be 45W.

I don't know about the 65 chassis but the 75 chassis has a updated bios with ....
    Acoustic noise mitigation :)
I guess a fancy way of saying "quiet mode" ?

Does anyone else have issues connecting the laptop to a TV. More specifically a Samsung TV via HDMI. Windows detects the 2nd display but wont let you switch to it.

Very annoying as my last ASUS laptop worked without any messing around.

As with everything video related on this damn lappy....
Disable intel video in device manager when using the hdmi and it will force it to use the nvidia.....nvidia drives the hdmi output
Kinda messed up to have to do it that way....but it is what it is eh?

    <edit>
I've been looking all over for a relatively *simple* solution to this problem (as I have it too) but it seems to be EVERYONE with any brand of laptop with the Optimus feature (*not* a feature at all) has this same issue.
Google up "Optimus issues" or "nVidia card not working" or anything even remotely similar.
You will be greeted with about 90 bazzilion posts and no working solution to this issue other than to disable the Intel video in device manager or (if you are so lucky to have the option) disable Intel video in BIOS.
    G'luck, I guess.....
Everyone needs to rip the ears off of BOTH Microshaft and nVidia for not having a fix to this.
They sold it (Optimus) and it has never worked.

Thanks for this. I was looking at the Thule Gauntlett case, not the attache like you have. But good to hear if fits it well. Will look in to this some more. From memory I think Apple actually stocked the Thule cases at their stores, so might be able to go have a look at one and check if it fits.

Have just about finished setting up the GS65. Not impressed with the size of the SSD. I've installed about five games, and the SSD is already nearly full. One of the things that made me hold off buying a GS65 was the upside down motherboard making it a pain to upgrade the SSD. Was going to buy a Aero 15X for this reason, then I found the GS65 for a really good price, so thought I'd chance it.

Not happy that I have to disassemble the laptop to get at the SSD, but starting to think that may be my only option. Has any used an external SSD for their Steam games library via USB C? This may be an option, if performance doesn't suffer too much.

But you guys, owners of MSI Stealth, where do you get fresh intel drivers? No issue installing it from intel website?

As for Triton 500 I need to select Optimus or G-Sync in bios or in Windows acer app. A reboot is required.

The GS65 doesn't have gsync so we're left with optimus.

Yes we can just download intel drivers no problem. It just sees it as two GPUs. Once you have optimus installed then it auto switches to the iGPU when dGPU is not needed.

I think it is 15 screws to remove the back panel.. its not on me atm.
Then unplug the battery, take time wiggle out slowly the first time will be difficult.

remove the Wireless card, 1 screw and disconnect antennas, then slide the card out.
take out the 3 screws for the battery, be careful to detach any cables/cords affixed to it.

Then slowly disconnect the remaining cables/wires (pay mind there is one towards the top/back of the motherboard. There are two screws attaching it to the top part of the chassis to remove.

Should slowly wiggle out, as always, take your time. Honestly it is intimidating but not really difficult.

Repasted with LM and 0.5 / 1.0 pads replaced, Side note the default pads (for me) were too thick next to the CPU socket, changed them to 0.5.
Now I never leave the 70s ever even at 4.0 Ghz (only 2 degree variance between any core).

Have a HP 950 1TB I got for $130 off Newegg that will go in as soon as it arrives. I can disassemble in 10 minutes now, first time took 30

9750h/2060 - broke 6800 timespy (this hits 82 CPU) and 17200 Firestrike (CPU hits 79). GPU never breaks 72

realistically, if i wanted to purchase this laptop from a site like Hidevo etc., should i go for liquid metal or thermal paste - if my plan is to never re-apply either til i change laptop few years later down the road?

    thanks a lot!

Wait which pads? I didn’t do that ...would that be why I get like 5 degree difference? I did repad the video ram and vrms but with stock width pads

Gelid Extreme (8+ years - still on an 860m from 2010) is my default apply and forget it paste for laptops.
I have had high success with Kryonaut (3 years and going) as well.

Haha good note, yeah I meant this one but I do have a friend with 860m from "2014" still on gelid extreme.

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-G73JH-ATI-HD-5870-Gaming-Notebook.28191.0.html

At the time, everyone kept saying that Gelid was great for laptop use while select groups swore by ICD. The 5870 still runs within range and the laptop was purchased late 2010. Got it at Best Buy.
Due to the heat that card produced in that setup everyone I was messaging with said it was a poor idea. Paste is still good.

I apologize for the confusion as I cannot look up my orders that far back and am terrible with dates and time. Also, I appreciate it when someone seeks correction :)

Plan on watching some Youtube vids and then one evening when I don't require the laptop, will attempt this, thanks for the write up.

Have had a chance to try out some games now that most things are installed. Overall, performance is not bad. Have played some BF5, Insurgency and Star Citizen now.

Am getting one annoying issue, I am getting random occurences of my Display Port disconnecting during a game. I'll be playing, and then all of a sudden my Samsung Monitor connected via Display Port will suddenly go black, followed by a connect DP message on the screen, leaving me with the laptop screen which is mounted off to the side. Reconnecting the DP cable does nothing, restarting the monitor doesn't help either. Seems like only after a full shutdown can I get the external monitor back via DP. Anyone else having this?

Recently picked the RTX 2060 version up and I immediately noticed a minor rattling noise from the left side fan. It goes away when the GPU fan is off, and is not noticeable at high RPMs.

Has anyone else experienced this and should I be concerned about it?

Was from the Best Buy sale, they seem to be sold out everywhere now so unlikely I'd be able to get a replacement anytime soon. It is very minor, not particularly annoying or worrisome. It's like a slight ticking that happens for a few seconds, goes away for a few seconds and then returns.

I was able to fix the noise by removing the bottom cover, pressing a bit on each of the two GPU fans, and putting it back together. Haven't heard any rattling/clicking since.

For those of you guys that have the 8750H, I FINALLY found the PERFECT CPU clocks for the best performance with low temps. This should also apply to the 9750H users as well.
In my testing, 3.2GHz all core turbo is the sweet spot, then 3.4GHz 3-4 core and 3.6GHz 2 and 1 core.
At 3.2GHz, I was benchmarking the exact same FPS at the 3.9GHz profile (Shadow of the Tomb Raider and FF15 at highest preset detail. Lower quality settings will yield lower FPS since most games will rely on the CPU over the GPU).
Since I wasn't losing FPS, I also decided to lower my fan profile to the following on both CPU and GPU:

    Level 1 - 0%
    Level 2 - 60%
    Level 3 - 70%
    Level 4 - 75%
    Level 5 - 80%
    Level 6 - 100%

Temps at max load at 3.2GHz is now 71c for both the CPU and GPU at 80% fan speed.

My benchmark numbers in the "Long Term Review" are exactly the same with this new 3.2GHz profile.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

    Thanks for sharing your results.

Can you clarify what you mean by max load? Did you mean when gaming or when running stress tests?

From benching and gaming. I didn’t run anything like prime95 + furmark so I guess “max load” was misleading. My bad.

So I had sent the laptop to the service center to replace with the thermal paste with Kyronaut (Can't do it myself as it will void warranty in India). After putting in the paste and running cinebench r20 with an undervolt of -145mV, Core 2 went to 90C in 2-4 seconds while Core 0 and 4 were around the 87-89C mark. Core 1,3,5 were sitting around 76-78C. The core ratios hit 39 to begin with, but almost instantly started falling before settling at 33x. The score came out to be 2500 with the undervolt (previously used to hit 2800 approx). Without the undervolt, the score was 2250.

Do you guys think its a bad application of the paste or bad heatsink (tilted) or bad installation of heatsink?

PS: The laptop isn't there with me. Its still with the service center. They let me remotely connect and run the tests.

    Hi all,

Just purchased the 2019 BB model with the 512GB Kingston SSD.

I am hoping to replace it with two WD Black SN750 1TB NVMe SSDs.

What would be the best process to do this?

My planned approach was to connect and format one of the WD SN750 SSD via external enclosure and use Macrium to clone the Kingston SSD.

Afterwards, I was going to open and change the drives out.

I just wasn't sure if I would have any issues with the PC reading the drives properly as I've read some folks in this thread had some issues when they added a secondary drive. Looks like for some it was just a formatting issue or simply swapping around the SSD between slot 1 & 2.

My concern is slightly different since I would be changing the main drive and filling both slots with new drives.

Thanks for any tips anyone may have!

Agree with the clean install option . . . I initially cloned my drive and the system worked but there were hiccups here and there that ultimately were too problematic. I was concerned about doing a clean Windows 10 install but when I finally just did this all the drivers were found automatically and it was very easy/quick and the system ran perfectly after this. In retrospect, I would have just done the clean install to begin with and it would have been much easier and the end result would be better....
