Hi,
It seems my webcam didnt come pre installed... It cant pick it up when i run skype...
I cant seem to find the driver for it on the msi website either...
Any help is appreciated! -
Have you tried Fn + F6?
-
Ok, anyone know what the "hybrid power" app does"? I have used the googles and bing and of, course, it keeps bringing up the MSI motherboard ...

I got mine GS70 and I have one question: Does somebody has made a clean Windows 7 Ultimate install?
On the MSI Website are only drivers for Win 8 ... so how to install Windows 7 correct? -
hi guys,
i just got my gs70 for 2 days. this is also my first post in the forum.
my laptop seems to keep on giving this annoying buzzzing sound everytime i plug in my network cable into the laptop. but as soon as i pull it out, the buzzing stop.
and it doesn't buzz if i use the wireless internet.
Is it the same for you guys?
cheers -
This laptop seems to have a bit to many child-diseases.....msi have some serious explaining to do
I REALLY SUGGEST you guys (who got a gs70 with this issues) to call MSI and let them replace your unit. -
Agreed. Mine has no buzzing, fans quiet, undervolted to -100mV. Temperatures on CPU burn in (Intel XTU) peak at low 90s.
-
One thing not to forget - annoying also:
You have to calibrate the screen with the integrated graphics AND the nvidia ones. I kept playing with nvidia and not noticing any changes in my MV4 files (from the AVS Forum Bluray patterns disk).
Anyway, the intel software provides great controls also (RGB Limited, contrast, color etc). Still annoying.
So I recommend this (for people who care)
Set VLC (or media player) to NVIDIA (NVIDIA control papenl)
Be sure other media player is on integrated (power button white).
Calibrate Brightness first, then contrast, then color.
Get the AVSForum test patters (mv4) for free:
AVS HD 709 - Blu-ray & MP4 Calibration
Btw, I actually got the color close (used blue filter over my eyes).
Anyone complaining about this screen not being good enough for NTSC HD content is clueless.
I will post my NVIDIA settings and Intel ones when I get home. Again, I doubt all the panels are that similiar but you can try my settings and let me know

Ok update: fixed it
So msi burn recovery is hard coded for drive d. I always rename my media and game drive M.
So shrunk partition , made D, all good -
Hey guys!
Anyone managed to find a application that can control the notebooks fans?
tried a few now (speed fan, Notebook control) and none detect the gpu/cpu fans -

I have a superuser question up on the subject if you care to see everything I have tried. I am convinced that there is something wrong with hardware virtualization.
Ubuntu and Linux Mint only run in Software Rendering Mode on Virtualbox - Super User -
ON all benchmarks seems really stable. Fan noise is not really changing (idle temps seem not affected). -

MSI Global GS70 STEALTH -
sadly this is why i have second thoughts about MSI support......if you for example had a DELL laptop with this issue...DELL had replaced that keyboard in a heartbeat.......
you guys who have MSI laptops before..........is this usual by MSi support to respond in that way ???? (the support is nearly same important as the PC itself in my eyes)Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
How do I know which BIOS to download? If I have the 2OD RAID version, do I download the 707 version?
-
So if you download 707 you don't have to manually enable RAID. -
-
So here is a follow-up to my pictures post of my crucial m500 upgrade. I pulled this laptop back down to Windows 7 Ultimate, it took a bit to grab the USB 3 eXtensible driver but other than that all set. Works great and runs quick.
Please let me know if you have any questions that I can help with. -
Correct, the RAID is already enabled in 707.
-
-
Also, does MSI Live Updated work correctly on the MSI GS70?

and it seems that no matter what I do, I would have to reset the EC module for the BIOS flash to take hold. However, it says I have to take out the battery for this to happen, and that can't happen on a GS70. What are my options for flashing the BIOS if I can't do either of these things? -

Bought mine and hated windows 8, so like a noob I shoved an ISO of W7 through it, deleted the partitions and all the data, and now cannot actually install W7 at all (something about not being able to install windows 7 on any of the partitions), even though I have a legit 64bit copy transferred to a USB drive.
Now, when I power on, the screen sequence is: MSI logo -> Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Option ROM etc (lists my ssd drives which are still in RAID and also the 750gb drive in non raid) CTRL+I to enter config -> MSI logo -> Bigfoot boot agent (shift +f10 to config) -> reboot and select proper boot device and press a key... and that's the end of the line
Anyone have any idea what I've done? Could it be that it can't detect the drive because it's 16gb? Or have a completed bricked my gs70 (wouldn't be surprised if this was the case). Any help would be much appreciated, can provide more specific info if needed.
Thank you -
1: change your BIOS boot with UEFI + CSM
2: Save and exit BIOS and press F11 at MSI logo to choose boot device
3: Choose UEFI DVD -
Thank you for your quick reply bud.

So I successfully updated to Bios 707, it works great but there is no change in performance of virtual machines. I am pretty desperate for anything to try, any other ideas?

Does anyone know how I can fix this? -
What you will have to do is delete all existing partitions, and create a new partition(s) for windows 7. This will work.
BE AWARE this will erase your system recovery partitions, making you unable to run a system restore and get back to the original factory install of windows 8, so do this with care and only if you know what you are doing. Windows 8 laptops typically dont have an install code on the bottom the way they do with windows 7, so that system recovery partition might be your only way to go back to windows 8. -
I appreciate the help. -
Is anyone else experiencing relatively poor latency in games? Even when I'm using a wired connection, my latency is much higher than on my old laptop. In League of Legends it used to be around 20 ms, now it will jump up to 200 or more on occasion

Has anyone had any success dual booting this laptop yet? Or is it still proving difficult?

Has anyone gotten the an error when trying to flash BIOS 707 (4 - Error: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID".)? I've tried a few different ways, but no go. I had to change from legacy bios to UEFI. Also, once in UEFI mode, it just keeps going right to the BIOS. I have to switch back to legacy to get it into Win8. THis is the factory install.

All theses issues y'all are having are turning me off from buying a GS70

I need a nice gaming laptop
-
what laptop bag are you using for this? I'm hoping for suggestions other than a backpack. I'm hoping for a briefcase type bag that will look professional for daily office travel and stuff. All i really need on the bag is a couple of folders, the laptop, mouse, external disk and charger then it's good to go. Just hoping for suggestions.
Been looking at everki advance 18.4 . Maybe you guys have a better suggestion or whatever you're currently using right now. -
I've had my GS70 for a little over a week now, so I thought I'd post my initial thoughts. I reinstalled Windows 8 Pro when I got it, so I had a chance to install everything from scratch.
Fan Noise
As several people have mentioned, the fan has a high minimum RPM and is audible. The plus side of this is that the laptop stays pretty cool. As I write this, my CPU is running 39-41°C. I have a MacBook Pro 2011 (that prefers passive cooling) and runs 65°C in Windows 8. To get the temp down to 40°C, the fan is easily as loud as my GS70. If I had my way, I'd probably reduce the fan speed 500 RPM or so.
Touchpad
I noticed that several people that complained about the Touchpad on NewEgg were advised to email [email protected], so I did that and they sent me a link for the beta driver. It works better and I've had less trouble with accidentally "mousing" while typing. The two-finger swipe/scroll is better, but I have to use my index and ring finger...using index+middle finger doesn't work. Also, I had trouble when installing the driver that the mouse would be disabled by the "Disable when external USB pointing device plug in", even though I didn't have any other mouse installed, so I had to turn off this setting.
Sleep LED
The white LEDs on the front of the laptop are crazy bright. This wouldn't be an issue, except if I leave my "sleeping" laptop on my nightstand, the flashing Sleep LED is like a strobe light that lights up the whole room every second. It is so annoying that I've been shutting down the laptop at night...I'll probably end up putting some tape over it.
Keyboard Backlight
As others have mentioned, the keyboard backlight appears more from underneath the keys than through the keys. I'm not sure this isn't by design. In my experience, it seems that the color is set to RED on a reboot and is only changed to your preference when the KLM software starts. Sadly, anything other than dark RED or BLUE is too bright for real use in the dark.
Power Adapter Plug
Some people have mentioned that the power plug is angled and could potentially cover up the fan. I don't really find this a problem. The real issue is that if you have an SD Card in the slot and the power plug rotates, it runs into the SD Card.
Preferred Video Card
The default setting for the driver is to prefer the nVIDIA adapter. If your power button is Orange (instead of White), then you are running on the GTX765. If you run on battery a lot like I do, you may want to change this to prefer the Intel card and only change when running games (automatically via the nVidia Control panel.
Warranty Warning
On the MSI forums, they made it clear that the VOID Warranty warning sticker can be ignored for the most part and that they would still support you unless it was obvious you'd done something crazy. I swapped out the second HDD with a 500GB SSD without much effort.
On RAID versus No-RAID models
I got the no-raid GS70 and it boots in 4 seconds. My advice to anyone buying is to take the the extra $200 and put it toward an SSD for the second drive.
Battery Life
This was a big concern for me coming from my MacBook Pro. After installing the second SSD and some other tuning (brightness, keyboard LED off), I'm easily getting 4 hours when doing light browsing.
Keyboard Shift Key Noise
Thankfully, I'm not having any issues with my keyboard (like the previous poster).
Hinge
Someone mentioned concerns over the hinge from a previous MSI laptop. The hinge is firm except for the last 2 inches before closing. At that point, it closes a little heavy. One thing I just noticed was the laptop went to sleep without being all the way closed (but being an inch or two from closing).
Gaming
I've done several long sessions of playing TF2 at 2560x1440 (using mini-displayport) with everything on max. Plays great and temperature doesn't go much over 70-75°C (my MacBook easily hits 85°C+ while gaming). Answering my own question from a previous post...the temp doesn't seem to be negatively affected by having the lid closed while game.Mythbuster One, Rockin_Zombie, bkoon1218 and 1 other person like this. -

+1 Rep!
I have mine now for one week ... but I made a clean install with Win7 Ultimate and I can confirm almost everything you wrote!
I have to say that I don't regret the purchase!
