Awesome thank you! Since I just have a single 1TB SSD, do I need to follow along with the video or just clean install and be done? Also do you have a recommendation on which drivers/utilities I should and shouldn't install from the MSI site? Thanks again!

    =Jason-

EDIT: Just saw you'll be putting out an updated version of the ISO with the fall update, should I wait for that then? This will be my second clean install and don't want to have to go through reinstalling everything again for a third time when that drops. Thanks

yes wait for the new ISO in 2 weeks at least AND you need to follow along the video if you want to get everything perfect

Brought my GE63VR 7RF in at the store Monday for repairs (temps got to 97 degrees, WITH undervolt)
Just browsing here because I miss the laptop so much, currently using my "old" Surface Pro 3, only thing I don't miss is the battery life :D

Well I've used my GE63VR now for about 5 days, my thoughts:

It's huge. Not thickness wise, I think it's pretty decent but coming from an Aorus X3+ I just didn't think it would be that much of a difference but it is. I even broke out the measuring tape to make sure I didn't get the GE73 lol. Now I know I'll not get the same performance out of something smaller and I'm NOT going back with Aorus so I'll get use to it. At least it fits in my bag.

I love the speakers, such a huge improvement for me. It's loud enough and there's at least some base, I'm pleased.

The screen is kinda meh to me. Now I haven't gamed so far other than Civilization VI but it just doesn't seem as sharp as I am use to. Maybe I can tweak that. It's bright enough though for me and the viewing angles are good. Can't wait to try out that 3m response on some decent games.

Love the keyboard, feels great, touchpad is good too. I like the keyboard lighting as well, have it setup to flash with my music.

Undervolted -125 and wasn't even hitting 75 but got BSOD a couple times while running 3 external HDD's at once(loading old files etc etc) so now I'm at around -100 and topped off at 77 without problem so I'm ok with that. This is just by running Civ VI while transfering on 3 HDD's and browsing/music etc all at once. Yet to do a proper stresstest, will do that tonight.

Build quality is great, machine feels very solid. It is a fingerprint magnet and I'm waiting till i'm 100% sure before I remove the little red stripes.

With the machine being so huge, I am highly disappointed with the battery life but oh well.

Overall I'm very happy with the computer. I just wished for something with a smaller footprint but like I said, I'll get use to the size. I'm buying an HTC Vive most likely next week, can't wait to see how it holds up to that stress.

    Hey lads,

I noticed my msi ge73vr is making a weird, not very loud but pitchy noise on the left bottom of the keyboard. I wonder if anyone else has this too?

It isn't particulary anoying as I'm using a headset and a cooling pad - I really never hear it apart from using the laptop on it's own.

I did however find out that sometimes the noise is louder and more consistent when under load.

    Cheers.

Been trying to get a feel for a bit now on my Raider, and I already hate this pile of turd called Win$h|t 10. Seriously, I want whatever the guy who thought this OS was a good idea is taking, cause it has to be some good @#%$!

Easiest way is to get the tool called O&O ShutUp10. There you can disable much more which you don't like in Win10. Very useful tool.

Been trying that since yesterday, but the problem is than when I go to Settings>Updates & Security>Windows Defender all I get is some text data about the version and definitions with only one single click button to launch the Security Center, which still doesnt have any of the 3 components that need to be disabled. Anyways I used O&O ShutUp to disable it.

Thank you for the post and all the work you put into the presentation. Just completed the install. One look at your start menu list and the full impact of the amount of "Bloat" included in the standard Win10 install is brought into full perspective. Looking forward to what the new ISO will offer.

How does your start menu look like now? Mine is as well free of all the apps (as you can deinstall them manually). There is some guide on YouTube how you can do that.

I had the same issue. I attributed it to the RAM slots. It wasn't the keyboard, fans, speakers, SSDs, or any loose components. Mine was audible even when idling with the fans off, so I RMA'd it. My new laptop actually makes the same noise, but it's so low that I don't hear it, even when idling. Only if I put my ear directly to the lower left keyboard area. I think this is probably present in a fair number of models, but in a small percentage might really loud/bad.

Thank you Phoenix for helping me out with the tweaks. In a little over an hour win 10 went from being a big pile of turd to something passable for an OS thanks to you. That was a fantastic job and I recommend it to anyone venturing into win 10 for the first time.

Is there a button to turn off just the laptop screen? I want to be able to turn it off when I have my tv hooked up to the laptop and not have the extended screen on the tv turn off too. I tried power settings but that turns off the tv too.

Just got my ge63vr in. So far really like the petite size and design. Don't like the cheap rough plastic on the bottom that feels like I might snap it if I grab the laptop too forcefully. TN screen is okay but not as good as the 17" one especially not the vertical viewing angles and contrast. Really like the keyboard. Seems better suited on a 15". Quickly turned off the vomit inducing disco lights. One really cool touch is when you push fn the keys you can activate with fn are highlighted. Speakers are good for a gaming laptop but I was expecting more from GIANT SPEAKER. Haven't messed with the settings yet. It's better than the dinky gigabyte laptop speakers and miles ahead of the anemic distorted mess on the GS stealth series but not as good as the PE70/GE72 I had before. Distorts at medium volume and like dave2d said, voices aren't super clear. I'm not sure if the GE73 has the same system or not since it has a bigger chassis. The new raider series has a taper in the front and gets rather thin. That's also where the GIANT SPEAKER(s) are. It may look big but its considerably thinner.

It doesn't have this function but you can use a 3rd party utility to achieve this.

So far I like everything except for the matte screen. The TN panel is lovely enough, but the condom that covers it just ruins everything. Blacks are just a shiny matte film. I see it even with all the lights turned off. The contrast is bad, colors look weird, and nothing looks smooth, just grainy. I've had quite a number of matte laptops now, even a couple sharp igzo ones (XPS 15, P37x), and I'm pretty sure all these great panels are being ruined by the matte coating.

I'm thinking of replacing the screen with a glossy panel. I've seen a glossy panel for the GE62 on screen replacement sites but have no idea what panel it actually is since they never list model numbers or anything else. Wondering if other laptop screens like the ones on non-gaming notebooks might work as well. It's just a panel and a connector under the bezel.

Ah fair one. I could still return it but I don't think it's worthwhile. As you mentioned all units will probably have something similar. I don't hear it anyways when I'm usingmy headphones.
I guess if the sound does become louder or annoying I can still call in my 2 year warranty.

    Thanks :)

I agree with you on the audio speakers, theyre ok, but not loud enough and I have the latest drivers. However, I think the display is actually a very nice one. Colors are very vivid for a TN panel after calibration and it took me a while to get used to it compared to my old laptop with ips panel. The response time is incredible; at 3ms you really dont need gsync. Lateral angles are ok and the vertical angles are not that bad. So I cant agree with you that the 17 model has a better panel because its the same panel they use in other 17" models

Ok, time to post my temps. Unfortunately, I dont have anything more demanding than ESO, so tested for an hour at ultra with the fans on auto. Ambient temp was between 20-22°C with a repaste (ICD) and no undervolt.

Another problem I'm just noticing is my battery is at 93% and won't charge further. I haven't even used the battery as I've had the comp plugged in. Whats the protocol for good battery life - drain the bat to 0 the first time you get the comp?

I don't think that is necessary for current generation Li-Ion batteries. For long-term storage, having a battery charged to 100% is not ideal, but for laptop purposes I don't think it's a big deal to have it plugged in all the time or kept at high charge. My machine also does the same thing, sometimes it will stop charging anywhere from 95-98%. Maybe it's software management to maintain battery health since that extra few percents might not matter when you're plugged in. But when I use the battery, even ~7%, then re-plug back in, it usually charges fully.

My old Acer Aspire V17 NBE I owned for a year, kept plugged in all the time at full charge, and also used battery mode down to low percents, with virtually no battery wear or max. capacity diminishing.

OK having some problems since clean installing the bloatfree Windows 10 version and hoping to get a little help from you guys.

    1.***.

    2. I can no longer access my Nahimic 2 program. I double click and it will go into my task bar as in icon, but I can no longer get into the menu. I'm redownloading the driver again and going to uninstall and reinstall but not sure what else I can do from there.

    Any suggestions?

Edit: Fixed #1, still working on #2

Not sure if you have this fixed yet but do know that the MSI Nahimic 2 and Realtek drivers go together as a pair. Try downloading the combined drivers from the MSI Support site to see if that works.

To the lads complaining about battery not charging to 100%... No, it's a GOOD sign. The charging algorithm is designed in a way to never allow the battery to stay at 100% "while charging", as it quickly degrades its lifespan. If your battery status says "9x%, not charging", it means everything's working as intended. The percentage will keep hovering between 85-90 and 95-100%, allowing the electrons to keep flowing while keeping the battery healthy.

I purchased the Spyder5Express monitor calibration tool. I am about to use online user recommendation of NOT using the OEM software (DataColor). Rather I will use DisplayCAL. Having calibrated the monitor, would I no longer need MSI True Color installed?

edit. So I ran DisplayCAL color calibration using this guide here:
    https://www.ceos3c.com/2017/05/17/calibrate-your-screen-with-displaycal-and-a-spyder-5/

    Capture.PNG

I re-ran the calibration, having changed one setting from LCD (generic) to LDC (LED White). Values changed slightly, but were mostly the same.

    Review from mobiletechreview :

i think that's why the CPU have different temperature on each core, due to the CPU plate cover tripod / triangle model was uneven ??

It's battery protection mechanism so you can't charge it again after disconnecting it from the charger while the battery is still within its top 10%.

Yes, that could cause core temp differential. If you notice this on your laptop then the factory or who ever re-pasted your CPU did not evenly tighten down the heatsink.

Unlike the Alienware tripod, the screw holes on the Raider are built into the actual heatsink rather than being attached by bendable arms. It should be easier to evenly tighten the Raider heatsink.

What I find odd is that Xotic PC took the time to put a custom skin on the lid yet they didn't check the heatsink to make sure it was evenly tightened. This is also the first Raider review that showed a substantial difference between core Temps. Most of the reviews shows pretty even core temps.

I have no issues with core temp differentials. The biggest difference I've seen under load was 3 degrees.

I get core temp differentials up to 7C, but only for moments; normally core temp differentials are only around 3-4C. There is some unevenness, but the overall temperature is low when I'm gaming so I'm not worried. I *did* re-paste myself using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, and I *did* try to tighten the heat sink evenly by alternating screws bit by bit, but oh well.

    Hi everyone
I just got the ge63vr with 7700hq and gtx 1070.
I am having a problem with the gpu usage % and the laptop is not performing like it should in games.
In games like BF1, quake champions and mass effect Andromeda I am getting 50-60%gpu usage and lower than expected FPS (60-80, it should be higher with this cpu/gpu combo.) gpu temp is not a problem at around 78 degrees I have tried messing with all visual setting and the results don't change. during load the cpu temps top out around 86 degrees and the usage % tops out around 90%.
I don't think this is thermal throttling, could it be a cpu bottleneck? on an i7?
any advice or input is appreciated.
    thx

Hey guys, for stress testing the cpu, which of the options in Prime95 should I use to test for cooling: the standard small FFT or custom FFT with 8-8 range?

Open dragon center and modify the fan curve to your heart's content, but don't quote me when your GTX 1070 temps exceed 90.

CPU may throttle first, base on reviews and heatpipe/fan photos
(2 pipes from CPU to Fan, CPU-Fan takes 1 pipe from GPU, 4 from GPU to GPU-Fan)

Saw a GE63VR review showing 5.6k+ RPM with cooler boost on,
it seems to be necessary due to fan size slightly limited by machine size...

My CPU temps are always lower with a -145mV offset. My CPU/GPU temps have yet to exceed 65 degrees under load.
Cooler boost is never needed, but I do smash that button for 10-15 seconds for the heck of it, the temperatures then stabilize at 50-ish.
