Oh awesome thank you for the kind words. I have a feedback thread you people, hahah ! I used to just be able to have my feedback thread in my signature, but apparently vendors and resellers and mods complained, so I was asked to remove it. But if you go to the NBR Market place, there's a feedback area, mine usually has a recent bump in the last month or so so it's on first page. Just look for my Avatar.
Anyways - this thread is supposed to be more about these laptops, and not about my particular services, if you want to know more, just convo me, the Mods on NBR are very chill so long as everyone plays by the rules so to speak you know. Now that being said, what I like to do with any new F5's I have coming in, I would like to share here in this thread, I think i shared 2-3 already, and what the opening experience was, and what was needed from a QA point and so forth.
Threads like this are excellent place to share your experience when you get your laptop and what it can do and how your experience was from purchase to delivery and use. Long live the socketed laptops ! (I can half picture Papusan swallowing a little and smiling to himself..)

My with my second re-paste I return victorious.
I didn't use enough Artic Silver on my emergency strat re-paste, CPU side was fine, but GPU was barely covered. Gelid spread much easier than the Kryonaut, but in the end I settled with the pea method, just using more than I did my previous paste. Switched out the thermal pads, and replaced the garbage screws with the stainless steel ones. Unfortunately, I miss measured my back panel screws, so I got a size skinner than I should of. I'll need to re-order those in a bigger size.
I also figured out what the misc. piece of metal that feel off during my first repaste was. Turns out it's an end cap on the grill for the fans. Unbent it and snapped it back in place.
Ran Firestrike a few times on stock settings and GPU temp is ~75C to 80C each run. CPU temp is between 83C to 93C.
This is my new result:

Graphics score is now in the 17K area, and combined score is 14,300 range. Feel all is right with this laptop now... except I'm having problems with Windows 10 with the (plugged in/not charging error).Spootnuke, Robbo99999 and birdyhands like this. -
How do you like the Intel 600p so far? Ever have any issues?
Also, you got a link to the screws? After reading about the heat-sink screw-heads stripping due to the soft material they're made from, I might as well order the better screws ahead of time. I think someone (maybe you?) posted a set of links to different screws for the F5 earlier in this thread.birdyhands likes this. -
Here is the link to replace the garbage heatsink screws with something that will last:

I "think" these are the actual screws for the laptop bottom panel, will order and give them a shot:

Woodzstack, I decided to get your services to check on my laptop once I received it. To avoid RMAs and annoying problems, it seems really worth it. Way more than paying for a longer guarantee.

Tornado F5 owners I purchased a new LCD for my beast after I grew very disappointed with the 63hz I was able to achieve. Coming from a 144hz desktop at home it just wasn't always cutting it.
Early on with my GT62 I discovered that that the screen was like glued on. My guess was this was done to prevent backlight bleed and make the bezel very secure.
A week ago I read report of the Samsung PLS panel overclocking to excellent levels. Offering good response times, great brightness, same great colors and a high refresh rate seemed like a great deal. I found the screen I wanted for $30 on eBay shipped. It was listed as Used and untested so sold as is. For $30 I took that gamble.
The screen arrived this week and I just got home tonight to install it. It's 100% perfect. Not a single dead pixel or scratch on the screen. After wiping it off with a damp microfiber towel and drying it looks brand new. I also ordered new double sided 2mm 3M adhesive tape and a cellphone tool kit with plastic tools for prying the screen off.
Sure enough it's like glued down with an adhesive. The plastic tool made it easy to get under the adhesive and peel the bezel off from the inside. I have reattached the screen yet with the bezel but initial impressions and testing is excellent.
I am happy to report I am able to instantly overclock the PLS display to 97hz!
Brightness, color and contrast is excellent. Yes I lost G-Sync but the great refresh rate more than makes up for it at this point. It works great in games from a quick test and brightness controls all work. -

Hey you guys so I'm thinking about repasting the CPU and gpu, what do you think about this thermal compound? Is it good enough or should I spend more and get a higher quality one? I've had this one since I replaced a CPU in my older laptop so I wanted to just use it out.

actually, let me tell you as I tell many people, less is MORE. you want these pastes to be sooo thin, it only covers the microscopic gaps crated by the indentation in the writing/laser etching on the die. So thick enough to blur out the writing, thin enough to almost see through it. That's being perfect.
ALL thermal paste is an INSULATOR, and one selling you the idea it is HELPING conduct thermally is a snakeoil sales man blowing smoke up your ass. So, the thinner it is, the less insulating it is as well. Just like thermal pads, when you fold them or use thicker, they halve the efficiency.
in perfect situations, heatsinks would be mirror shiny and flat and evenly touching the die without any paste. If your unsure if the heatsink is very level of has a perfectly flat surface or the copper is grainy and very poor quality (like in the F5's for the GPU) then you want to be sure to use thermal paste, just enough to even out any unevenness.
You should be able to get like 15-20C better temps with this practice using almost any decent paste, if you learn some tricks in spreading it thinly (keeping it warm, and surface warm enough that it spreads easy but not hot that it bonds/melts/flattens)Last edited: Jan 8, 2017birdyhands likes this. -

Anyone else with these two issues.
1. Some keys on the keyboard are kinda lose. My are the "a" and "s" keys, and i think the "q" key will come next. When I press the other keys they dont sound lose. The "a" feels the most lose of all them.
2. The fans at idle sound like the ball bearings inside are kinda dry. The sound is kinda like metal grinding noises but only at idle.
Should I get ask for a RMA.birdyhands likes this. -
Imo if it doesn't stop you from playing / working with it just stick to it. It's not like a whinny sound and a less tight keys is worth the shipping fee + 2 week of no laptop.woodzstack and birdyhands like this. -

Or spend some time, do it carefully, go with CLU and you're golden, provided that your heatsink is making good contact.Ashtrix, birdyhands and Papusan like this. -
Do you notice any input lag being that it's an IPS? Also, in reference to the review on notebookcheck, how is the brightness drop-off after 30° from center?
This is very interesting to me, so much so that I might purchase it prior to the 120Hz screen option (also because of time constraints for me) and get an third party display to toss in.
I wonder if a G-Sync panel would work out of another machine without any modifications..birdyhands likes this. -

Hi Guys
I have a laptop MS-16L1 /i6700K/GTX970M 6GB/DDR4
Where can I find help in upgrading Bios? After connecting a new graphics card from MSI GT72 GTX 1060 6GB, the screen is black.
I installed my previous card (GTX 970M) and everything works correctly.
I think that's Bios issue
