    -.125V in xtu on cpu
I haven't overclocked my gpu but gta v looks amazing at the settings it was installed on steam with and it runs stable at 60fps.

i think it do support g-sync, coz if a panel doesnt support g-sync its explicit mention with them when selecting the panel. it doesnt say gsync not supported on this panel so its safe to assume it does do g-sync.

I've tried discharging it by holding the power button while leaving everything unplugged (as well as connect USB devices to drain any residual power). I'll try disconnecting the cmos battery and see where that goes. Hopefully something works. Much appreciated for the advice.

+ rep and welcome to the socket family :)
Very vice you got rid of the JokeBook. Soldered hardware shouldn't be in laptops bigger than 14 inches. More intended for tablets/smartphones!!

Use ThrottleStop. Less wasted clock cycles and nice to have 4 power profiles you can switch between on the fly with a simple key command.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this one with the boxing day discount...

Can anyone confirm whether Eurocom's student discount can be used in addition to promotional discounts like the 10% off boxing day deal?

My other points of hesitation are the possibility of a z270 chipset board being released soon for the F5, and a 120 Hz panel. If only one could pre-order that configuration with the holiday discount...

I'm going to try ThrottleStop next, does the settings stick or does it need starting up every time you restart?

Unfortunately none of the solutions panned out and it could be a bad motherboard. With the issues I encountered ordering the unit up until receiving a bad unit, it's disappointing to return to Warsaw from the holidays empty handed and unfortunately left an unfavorable experience with Eurocom.

Have a 16L13 on order from @woodzstack. Also, he is a great guy to buy laptops from.

Very basic 6700k/1070 setup, would be a nice workhorse laptop.

That Boxing deal is so enticing! I want to order one now, but I really want to know the process for the upgrade later on for the 120 Hz screen, and how much it will cost as a DIY with the firmware upgrade.

I guess I'll just wait patiently...

The MS16L13 has two versions right now, for the future, incase anyone is wondering.

There is the current version we all have, and then there is the 1080NN version which will have a different motherboard.

The reason for the different motherboard is the pegs to which the videocard standson and the indents that hold it in place have purposely been made different, so there is no backwards compatibility between them.

You will not be able to use a regular MXM 3.0B card in the newer one, or even the recent 1060NN or 1070NN cards.

ALSO - the 1080 coming for the new F5 / MS16L13 is a 150W and will require the extra power connection on the inside.

The new 120Hz screens are eDP and going to be in stock in a week or two, same as when the motherboard refresh will.

SO - I am telling you all this, so if you purchased in hopes of upgrading to the 1080 coming out - you will need the new motherboard too, with PSU, heatsinks etc..

if you plan on buying a barebones and upgrading yourself, you will have to decide what video cards your going to use right away.

These should have been separated versions, but they are not. This is the same thing that happened with the DM-G/ DM-G2 versions of some clevo's.

Mentioning that last part, before anyone makes the mistake of jumping the gun and hoping to wait to upgrade again.

I knew some people who went and purchased P870DM-G/P770DM-G's and then the next version came out, they felt ripped off. No one told them about this.So I am telling you right now.

Also - if you are vying for a 7700K or Kaby lake, you will need a new bios. The new bioses work on a triple stage to flash, once you flash you will not be able to go back.

Currently the latest bios, doesn't support M.2 PCI-e speeds, but still does sata3 6g speeds. It's working as a m.2 sata RAID... the next version coming in 2 weeks or so, once we've done testing it, will support the full m.2 ngff pci-e x 4 speeds and support SM961/samsung 960 chips.

Once you update to new Kaby lake bios, you will not have support for the older skylake bios, until the update fixes it, and gives you full access to the m.2 etc... so don't panic when early access/early adopters have non-perfect bios. just wait and it will be updated.

SVET on MSI forums is happy to help people for a donation in unlocking some of thier bioses. No word from Martin/Prema bioses when asked. Bricked motherboard from bad flash not covered in warranty, so be advised, me nor partners like Eurocom/Sager etc.. will replace a bad flashed motherboard for free.

Place your orders for what you need, when you want it.

Also - expect the pricing of the F5 / MS16L13 to go up abit. It is and has been sold underpriced because this was just a preview build until the new bios and Kaby lake, and 1080 come.

    TL/DR
    120HZ in 1 week+.
1080/7700K refresh in 1 week+ (new motherboard, not backwards compatible with previous MXM)
Kaby lake support ready now, m.2 not fully pci-e x4 on new bios. 2 weeks will be perfected. Not yet perfect, and not backwards compatible.
Bad flash - not covered by warranty.
    F5 price probably going up.

No the student discount is not combined with other discounts. The seasonal and holiday specials though are open to all audiences though, so while you might be a student, you can get that discount all the time, but the seasonal discount, is only temporarily for everyone.

    Hi guys

Do you have any tips on how to remove one of the screws on the back panel, I have removed 5 so far but the bottom middle one is proving to be difficult and won't budge. I have tried the WD 40 method and seem to have the correct screwdriver as the others came out with no issues...

So for futureproofing, what would you advise? Buy the current version with a regular MXM 3.0B or the new version with ... ?
Is it a new version? Or a one-off to make the 1080 fit? I can do without a 5% performance increase if i cant fit newer cards..

Thanks for replying, and the other info about the model refresh.

Can you clarify whether the updated 7700k/1080 systems are on a z170 or z270 chipset? [edit] If so/not, will the z270 chipset with the 1070 be available soonish? [/edit]

The promise of a price-hike in the near future does complicate my indecision...

The screws to remove the back panel should all be the same... try using a slightly smaller screwdriver. Careful not to strip the screw.

IMO, if you are using the 1080p 60 Hz screen, the 1070 is already quite overkill and should stay relevant for several years.

Due to the 10% off Boxing Day coupon, I reordered the Tornado F5 R2 with the 7700K/1080. Now that I know the 120hz 5ms 1080p panel will be available around the time my order goes into production, I will make sure they add that to my DTR. I will keep this thread updated.

get your configuration that you want and send me a message with full breakdown, I will tell you the ETA on it depending on config and maybe help you decide what you want based on whats known.

We had a v1 initially, no Kaby lake support, then we had the first few v3' which added kabylake support but was not backwards compatible and missing some features, so we are testing the latest build which should be a v4, and is backwards compatible and adds all the original features back.
No changelogs as of yet to share, sorry.

Yeah I wasn't given too keen an idea if the chipset was the new chipset, when I physically can have it in my hand I will prove whats what.

10% is a good deal, the laptop is already at a premium. If anyone wants special testing or special orders, I'm a alternative to Eurocom, because I'm a quick drive back and forth and can test things or provide options before shipping to you, eliminating any risk and most of the travel time with back and forth RMA's, you get my service instead of theirs, and for me this is still pretty much a hobby, which I am slowly growing into something more.

Yep, it's not a matter of "if" but "when" for these parts to be in a mobile form device. Microsoft is seeing some success with the Surface Tablet PCs and Apple is doing there own thing trying to hit that market. That said, I don't think the gamer market is in their sites yet. I was hoping that nVidia Tegra would take off, which it still might have a chance after Nintendo Switch launches. If that is successful that will probably be the spark that ignites this type of hardware. But this is a different topic for a different thread.

Still loving this laptop, minor annoyances and all. Can't quite figure out the "rattle" in the fan outside that it only occurs at a certain fan speed.

It's a dodgy situation, with those screws being so fragile, the possibility that you will snap the top off is great, so I wouldn't apply too much pressure.

You could try the heat method to try to budge a frozen screw, but be careful as you could slip and mar the PCB or break a part off.

Due to the spot, surface area, the best you can do is to put a hot tip soldering iron onto the screw, let it heat up then try, and repeat as needed. Make sure you remove the tinning (solder) from the tip for this.

Don't use the "torch" method, for obvious reasons :)

For me this is what I am going for and use it as my DTR to play games.

    7700K/1070
120hz - might wait a week or so after the release in case any issue arise
No ram or leave the ram as is
    330 watt

Still deciding on this stuff and buy on my own:
    16/32gb ram

Should I just take the 2.5 Samsung 850 256gb pro upgrade for $95 CAD and buy 1 TB 850 EVO in m.2 2280 form while there is a huge discount on it during the holidays? Will there be heat problems with the 1 TB in the m.2 2280 slot?

I am curious on how this works and adding on Aisaka's question, how about the 10% student discount of Eurocom?

The Tornado F5 I ordered is essentially, barebones. Outside of the 7700K, 1080, 8260 NIC and a 330W power adapter, I have everything at its base setting. I can order my RAM at wholesale prices and I access to some of the best drives in the industry.

I have been watching this thread closely and the throttling of the m.2 drives in this DTR is concerning. For all intents and purposes, this will be my business machine, however I plan on buying a separate bottom cover to modify for when I OC this DTR. Judging off on MSI's other laptops, they could have done a better job designing the bottom cover with more vents.

Is there any difference on heat concerning the capacity of the ssd on the m.2 2280 slot? Like 256gb instead of 1 TB. Same model just different capacity.

With optimal air flow and cooling, there shouldn't be any difference, meaning they will all throttle at some point under intense usage. As for our case, a higher capacity drive will have more modules that will need to be cooled compared to a smaller capacity drive. Regardless of the size of the drive you pick, you should look back at the past 20 or so pages, as some members found ways to keep their m.2 drives cooler with makeshift heatsinks.

What examples would it be for the ssd to be under intense usage? 1 of my drive will be an OS and another for gaming. I will be using it normally browsing, watching stuff and gaming.

The only thing that I know that will fall under intense usage will be copying large files which I don't do. Will AAA gaming fall under intense usage? How about the OS falling under intense usage considering it is always being used as long as the computer is open?

So people who bought the 16L13 hoping to upgrade to the 1080 are looking at a MOBO upgrade as well? Wow... that sucks.

I was told by Eurocom support about a month ago this was the case. Have no plans nor had any to upgrade to a gtx 1080. It doesn't interest me. It uses a non standard MXM and is not at all backwards compatible. If that card ever fails you will have a harder time getting a replacement as you can't just put any MXM card in there. The price increase doesn't justify the performance jump and will be limited as it's only 150w TDP.

I personally think you are better off with the 1070/120hz.

Yes a 120Hz G-Sync it's the better option IMHO too. Plus the 1080 will also limited by temps too other than power. Unless the new model uses more efficient fans which I doubt :D

A new motherboard, a new MXM card, 330w PSU standard, 1080 150w GPU up from 1070 100w, so I would think a whole new cooling system as well - new heatplate, new heatpipes, new heat exchanger, and new larger fan(s).

    It's gonna be a pretty fat 15.6" frame to handle a 7700K 95w CPU + 150w 1080 GPU power and cooling demands.

    Looking forward to it :)

I try and give a small discount, to build up clients slowly, but in most cases I'm about the same price if not more, because I offer different services, like after market support, delidding, customs bios unlocking, software customization etc.. and I test things thoroughly, if there is an issue, instead of getting the laptop and having to send it back and waste a month, it only takes a day or so longer until things are perfect. Also, I have no difficulty getting anything into any country.
So forget pricing, think quality of service. You can try sending emails to Eurocom, when you have an issue, or you can call me anytime , on a first name basis, and I have a decent enough track record, that my reputation should speak for itself.
But - I maintain - I'm no large corporate company here, or massive distributor like Eurocom is, but that where my niche is. You want a card pulled out of a pile of 10 cards, equivalent to some other company's like the silicon lottery but for GPU's ? That's me. Been doing it for 3 years now. Maybe you do not want a Tray CPU, but a retail version with higher bin and real INTEL warranty, I can do that too, I also can get better pricing on full systems, but barebones and half configs are a waste of everyones times, Eurocom's and mine.

To be honest, when client calls us or emails us looking for a deal, and really tries nailing an impossibly low price, 99% of the time they turn out to be a hassle and completely not worth dealing with, and it had NOTHING to do with the price. As a practice, we try and steer clear of that kind of consumer. We're about quality, and service and it's an entirely different experience buying from someone you can always get back in touch with then buying from a larger company. That is really more what I offer, and hopefully I can grow this into something in a few years for real. largely still just a hobby, that I do out of passion, but with a lot of support from many vendors. We're not competitive as you might expect, but rather we all work together to get things done, and share idea's and files and tech, etc...

Yeah, well it doesn;t suck, this laptop shouldn't have been for sale yet, but they made a version available early and put it for sale. The new motherboard is also really more of an entirely different product but yet called the same name... that is really where it is getting confused.

    thanks for the reply
So you don't want to sell barebones? I have extra ram and drive so really don't need full system...
Also, will your machine come with any logo?

Why do I get the feeling this laptop was a test bed for MSI to see the demand for desktop CPU laptops? Pretty neat knowing we got a very rare laptop in this case.

Very nice business you have there! Sounds like you are targetting a similar audience as HIDevolution. Very nice to see more players catering to the high performance laptop community!

Okay, I was under the misapprehension that the 1080 had the same form factor. There is a standard MXM 1080 I believe as I heard a rumor that someone got it to work in a Clevo 750DM2-G. I take it the new one has higher TDP (hence the need for the new cooling system)?

And yeah I personally don't like the way MSI is still calling this a 16L13 while changing so much.

I take it that if you ordered two 16L13s from Eurocom, one config with a 1070 and one with a 1080 you would receive two substantially different laptops (different mobis and cooling systems)?

Apparently the 120hz TN option has banding on color gradients.. Just a head's up for those to avoid any future disappointments. Also still trying to figure out if the 120hz is G-sync approved.
