Thank you very much. I checked with Eurocom (Gary), Cyberpower and a local reseller and they all said it was HDMI 1.4. Weird there are conflicting stories :/

I'll have to double again.. I didn't pull up testufo.com to confirm 60hz, I will when I get home. I confirmed by checking the tv's Hz . I'll test it.

Maxed out around 72C degrees on hottest core. Pict in the Hwbot score link http://hwbot.org/submission/3344932_papusan_cinebench___r15_core_i7_6700k_1068_cb
I use only TS for measuring max temperature in bench. I hate wasted Clock cycles from monitoring software when benching  Maxed fans and my mod U3. I have ordered new better Vardar 12v fans. Maybe the temp drop? :D

Am I missing something here.. how are you getting such low temps in a notebook? What is your mod U3?

Edit: Well I thought about this longer.. max fans.. and Cinebench doesn't run long enough to see max potential temps. Makes sense.

Temp in Wprime 1024M maxed 76C degrees. Not my best bench record in Wprime 1024M, but highly acceptable for @4,8GHz in a Notebook :D I have always prefered Liquid Ultra, although some don't like it!!

My best Wprime 1024M score with @4.8 GHz But with slightly higher max temp at 81C degrees http://hwbot.org/submission/3333272_papusan_wprime___1024m_core_i7_6700k_2min_12sec_237ms

Here is the link for my mod Coolermaster U3. Newer and better 12v Vardar fans are now ordered for lower bench temp  http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...lienware-laptops.593626/page-46#post-10208973

Wow I didn't realize a custom cooling pad really makes that much of a difference.. maybe I should get one myself? What would be a good pad that is very quiet but does a good job still? The 16L13 draws all air from the bottom center area.

Crazy overclock... I've never even dared push a processor past 4.5 GHz before

I've always wondered, the 4.8 GHz profile is mainly for benchmarking right? Otherwise, isn't max fans a bit bothersome to have on all the time?

I have the Cooler Master U2 with the fans removed. Even simply elevating the laptop to get more airflow drops temps by a couple degrees.

I use the exact same stand as a passive cooler, no fans. Works well* for my MBP which can get rather toasty when the processor is at full load.

Ok well I called up MSI on this whole HDMI 2.0 issue or not. The tech rep wasn't super knowledgeable but he was able to type in my serial number and see it pulled up an MSI GT62VR. He said it listed the HDMI was 4k @60hz and DP as ver 1.2.

I asked if I had an MSI warranty as well as coverage through Eurocom and was told that I had coverage through MSI and that my warranty expired Sep 2018. :). I was told I can register the laptop on MSI website just like any other MSI laptop and was able to do so. I also got a 3 month warranty extension for taking the short survey.

A standard notebook cooler doesn't do much. But You can change to better 12v fans and use a 12v power adapter like what I have done (I also cut holes in my U3 for better air flow). Cooler master U3 is excellent for customizing. More noisy fans with high static pressure work best :D Of course if the ventilation in the bottom of your laptop is good. The stock 5v small fans on U3 doesn't do much. Same also with the big 180/230 mm fans on other coolers. My meaning is most part of the notebook coolers out there is trash.
You can also buy you a couple of Coolfeet. Prettier than use of Coke tops from bottles...

Noise isn't a problem for me :D But I use maxed fans only if needed. I use 4.8 GHz for benching and 4.7 GHz for daily use. If my wife fire up home in the fireplace and the temp go very up, I just switch to the lower 4.5 GHz profile. Throttlestop is my favorite software. 4 power profiles with one key stroke on the fly is amazing  Thanks @unclewebb

I game with MAX fans usually. Even at max fans they are relatively quiet and tolerable on the F5 and I 'd prefer to keep my baby cool. Fans are cheap and thats what the warranty is for. In all of my years of owning laptops I have usually always forced max fans on my MSI laptops while gaming and I have yet to ever have a single one fail or get noisy over time. They are built like tanks.

Hmm, I hope the rep is right about the warranty because that would be awesome. I'm a little skeptical if MSI will honor it though, because the warranty is worded like this:

    Complete Set of Notebook Barebone

"In accordance with original manufacturer's products serial number/barcode, it is warranted for 12 months repair service from its manufacture date or purchase date after registering online."

Typically all MSI barebones always have a 12month warranty period. For whatever reason when talking to the rep and when registering the laptop on their website it found my barebones SKU and listed it as having a 24month warranty. It also extended that warranty by an additional 3 months for taking the short survey. I'm not quite sure it would somehow give me additional warranty coverage that isn't listed for the exact serial and sku.

    Edit:

What you are referring to is MSI ADC or Accidental Coverage. Branded/Retail get that additional coverage, barebones do NOT.

    Hence the ***********

I strongly encourage all barebones owners to go to the MSI support website and register your laptop. The Serial # is stickered to the bottom of the laptop and also has a sticker on the box. It's free coverage that according to MSI still applies to our laptops.

MSI has a separate Tab for "Barebones" in their online Warranty information, which is what covers the MSI 16L13 - Eurocom F5 base configuration - without the add-on parts - CPU etc.

    https://us.msi.com/page/warranty

You would need to check with Eurocom for the warranty coverage on the whole system, and / or the component parts they added.

Not sure if the warranty is for the operational system - I would hope so - or if it only covers the parts added by them. This would be nice to know, please post what you hear back from Eurocom as to their coverage of the system / components added.

This. Any parts that are added to the laptop i.e the CPU, ram, HDDs and SSDs, wifi cards are not covered by MSI. The motherboard, chassis, battery, PSU and screen are all warrantied by MSI.

I ended up ordering the Cooler Master SF-17.. Might be a bit overkill but I like the big 180mm center placement and the 4port USB hub you get with it. I couldn't find anything else with a usb hub (really wanted a usb3.0 one) but only the SF-19 has that and it's $200+ so no thanks.

I almost got the Cooler Master Notepal X3 though which was pretty nice looking.

Hey guys, I'm returning my P650RS-G (in sig) because I wasn't a fan (lol) of the noise levels under load. That's probably bearable if not for that coupled with the backlight bleed on the IPS screen. Whole experience felt sub par especially for a machine worth nearly 2k. The idea of a 120hz screen with G-Sync in the future looks very promising tbh.

If there's anything I'll miss is the Sabre DAC that powers my DT1770s like a charm.

Anyways, I'm just wondering what the temps and fan noise levels are with the 16L13 with the 6700k + 1070. Is it also possible to get a 1080 in the near future? It's either this or a desktop at this stage. Side note, please spare me the "BGA/Turdbook" bashing I see going around. Really unnecessary.

Remember most of the coolers with big single fans doesn't do much. I have tried a few before. The last one I purchased, was Zalman ZM-NC3500 for my daughter. Not very useful for cooling but my daughter likes it.

I would never ever send in my laptop for a failed fan!! I rather ask for a free replacement. Or I would purchased one myself. You only get back your laptop with scratches. Not worth the hassle. Only a failed motherboard will force me to send in my computer. Also the graphics or processor, if support doesn't want send it to me so I can do the job myself.

Hmm.. well just looking at the lot of available laptop coolers.. I just went for one with a smaller single fan.. And apparently you can crank up speed on it to force some air up into the single center vent on this machine.. I guess if it doesn't change anything, i'll just return it to Amazon.. it will at least provide some more height for fresh air i'm assuming?

So, if you want to know if your system is really stable or not.. Run Asus' Realbench. Apparently I lock up with my undervolts of -165/-165.. This sucks. Cause now this means more heat.. I had a lock up last night in game so that explains things now. I appear to be also unstable at -150/-150 at 4ghz (stock).

    Back to the drawing board.

That's interesting, RealBench used to only work on Asus laptops and motherboards.

My G750JH score was #1 at one time, it's way down the list now... :)

Good to know the Realbench test is available for other makes and still does a good job checking stability for OC / undervolt, thanks!

Really quickly.. Like under 5 minutes for me. Even at -150 it didn't seem to give me any extra time. :/ System is all hot as heck now with Realbench.

Yeah.. it's working fine. And since it works out your GPU and CPU together and uses AVX it's probably unrealistic.. But I want to be AVX stable since my encoding/rendering apps use AVX.

Downside is more heat at this point and even at stock voltage at stock 4ghz, I hit 100c and it downclocks to compensate.. I'm de-lidded and obviously the cooling setup is underwhelming for a 6700K + 1070.. I guess Realbench is kind of like running Prime95 + Furmark together in a sorts.

I guess it's really hard to have a low-rpm machine like this and expect it to cool properly.. At max fans it stays under control though..

Edit: I guess de-lidding doesn't make as much of a difference if you don't have the cooling overhead in place to take advantage of the faster heat transfer. I don't know.. I'm thinking about just downclocking to 3.6ghz and leaving the machine alone.

    I need some help guys....

Does anyone know a good method to identify laptop screws? Specifically... I need to replace these screws (using Diversion's photos as an example).

    GPU:

    CPU:

After screwing and unscrewing these a few times, a few have become worn, and might become stripped, if not already stripped

Yikes.. yeah I noticed how easily they could become stripped too.. after undoing mine at least 10 times.. I'll get to searching but we just need to know the length and number basically for these.

3.6ghz would be a win over the 45w laptop CPU's, they only hold a max of 35x or average of 35.5x for batch jobs, at least in my experience.

I keep profiles for various benchmark, batch job, and general use CPU / GPU settings, and it's easy enough to switch around.

I'd keep the max CPU / GPU stable for general use, gaming, and batch jobs to keep it interesting - might as well have a 4.2ghz x 4 profile set around :)

It's a huge win. In 4 or more threaded jobs, the 6700HQ can ONLY do 3.1ghz across 4 cores. I can run 3.6ghz across 4 cores at nearly the same 45 watts. And i'm figuring out my problem.. apparently my 6700K's cache undervolt was the culprit.. back up to -165 on core alone at 4ghz and stable again. I guess the cache isnt' as good as an OCer.. Which is fine because you net more benefit from undervolting the core.

Maybe a big fan works better for you. The ventilation in your laptop is centered toward the middle, see picture. You can only try. How many mm is the opening of the ventilation(see image)? You have a lot of plastic out towards the sides.
    upload_2016-10-20_2-10-45.png

As you can see 3x 120mm fans are better suited for P870. Maybe 2 x 120mm high end fans would suit your laptop (if you used U3).

    upload_2016-10-20_2-15-58.png

Also this one is nice if you don't need fans https://www.amazon.com/Steklo-Alumi...id=1463702502&sr=8-1&keywords=macbook+X+stand

Interesting. I also noticed that the cache basically did nothing for performance. Keeping it simple, and leaving the cache at stock while overclocking the core might be the way to go.

Correct.. since the cache on modern CPUs run 3x as fast as the core (something like that anyways) you can actually do what @Papusan told me in the GT62VR thread and lower your cache multiplier and save on a few more degrees as a result without sacrificing much if any performance. In my findings, x8 on cache does hurt performance slightly.. but at x12 cache ratio, performance is pretty much identical as if it were set to 40.

Edit: I'll post wPrime 1024 with x40 cache vs x12 cache to show you what I mean. And also show the temp differences.

If I got fancy with a hole cutter.. i'd cut 2 holes over the fans and put in a nice screen to protect being able to touch/get stuff inside the fans. I bet that would net massive gains on our units lol.

Yup, the cache multiplier plateau's out first and hit's instability, and then you can go further with the Cores multiplier. The same for the undervolt, the cache reaches a plateau, but the cores can undervolt further.

The cache undervolt can also reduce throughput for my batch jobs, something else to watch out for - undervolt for cores doesn't seem to affect throughput.

Reducing the cache multiplier too far trying to reduce temperature will also reduce my batch job throughput.

Careful tuning reduces the heat and increases the stable clock frequency improving batch job throughput greatly. It takes running many tuning trials and testing to zero in on the optimal performance with optimal temperatures.

See the bottom mod from @kosti http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/another-coolermaster-u3-bottom-tray-mod.789298/ Very nice done :) You can make it :D

Edit @keftih see what Cashe can gain you. Not much :) But for overclockers you need to squeeze every drop from your processor  N.U.M.B.E.R.S :D http://www.tweaktown.com/guides/748...-intel-skylake-overclocking-guide/index4.html

I'm thinking about going to max 64gb so I can run a 48gb RAMdisk :p Sounds fun. What is it, like 2200gb/sec speeds or something?

Looks like at my ram frequency (2400 MHz) cache speed won't matter too much. Thermals and stability is more important to me than 1-2% performance

So things are weird now.. I changed my undervolt to go heavier on core -180.. and -150 on cache..

I seem to be stable so far... Not sure how I can run 1.06volts at 4ghz one day and be fine.. then the next 1.2volts at 4ghz isn't.

Basic question... but is your voltage control on adaptive or static?

Adaptive.. but I would bet that if I set to static and left it alone I'd see far more stability.

On another note, I lock up if fans are on auto and run Realbench.. but if i'm on max fans (via the hardware switch) I don't crash.. Makes entirely no sense.. Especially when temps are in the 70s on auto right when it locks up (no blue screen, just screen freeze).

I can't explain why max fans would make the system more stable.. Something temp related or sensor related is freaking the machine out on auto fans though.

Have anyone played Battlefield 1 and measure temps? The game is looking nice, but takes some serious load on my little system.

With auto fans profile on, my 6700k and 1070 got max CPU temp of 93C and GPU 82C. The game seems to like all the threads it can get, as HWMonitor reported 99% on all threads. This is with -170 on core/cache in Throttlestop. With max fans on I can get a little more okey temps.

I'm playing on an external monitor, 1440p resolution @ 80Hz. Have an FPS cap on 81 and it running like a dream with no drops so far. Settings ingame is ULTRA but with no AA. Have tested some HIGH settings and I can't seen any different to ULTRA, so maybe stick with HIGH.
