My display hit 65hz which is basically useless for most. Still 65hz somewhat better but a far cry from the 144hz I'm accustomed to.

Just got an update on my Fangbook 4. Finished assembly, passed first Quality Control check... looking like a pretty accurate ship date.

Really dissapointed in this black friday sale. The matching configuration with original cost about 1800+ excluding shipping. Micro center has it @ $1399. Guess ill go original this time.

edit: that 20% off of fixed configuration is seriously bad. one can get 10% discount of custom config without hdd and ram and include 4k display + 330 watt. thn get hyper x @2400 32gb for 149$ from amazon and intel p600 nvme 512 gb all for 1889$. where as eurocom charging 1999$ with 4k screen and tht too with only 1tb mechanical drive.

Fangbook 4 is with SMT / surface mount non-upgradable CPU where Tornado F5 is socket based CPU upgradable to 7700K. So Tornado F5 is future proof laptop and not disposable one that lasts a year.

Call it what it is... BGA hardware!! Do not wrap the trash into little nicer *Glossy* phrase. Everyone should now know that BGA machines can't be upgraded with next gen hardware. Also forget to replace your faulty or low binned Cpu without having to replace the entire motherboard https://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexArea=product_en&CatId=&SearchText=BGA+i7

How many end users would be able to replace BGA CPU or BGA GPU? Where would they find these parts? Socket CPUs and slot MXM GPUs are ensuring longer lifespan - we have models that support 4 generations of GPUs and at least 2 generations of CPUS - you won't get this with BGA.

Agreed. Which is why people should be buying these laptops that have socketed parts of they want their laptop to last and be flexible.

So tempted to order an F5 fitted with the non-K 6700/1070/FHD. Is the 230w power supply adequate here or is it best to get the 330w? I may want to OC the GPU a little bit, even so, given the TDP of both this CPU and GPU, seems that the 230w brick is fine? If I get the 6700K cpu or later upgrade to 7700K, then the 330w brick makes sense, correct?

230W is sufficient for your configuration. You can always get 330W at later time It is good idea to have 2nd AC adapter so you keep one at home and use the second one on-the-go.

I got the Fangbook 4 Xtreme VR 200, which is the same model as the Tornado F5. I just shortened it to the Fangbook4 rather than typing out the long name... I'll be calling it my MSI 16L3 (FB4XVR200) to limit the confusion going forward.

I wish I'm getting that same kind of response. Unfortunately its been almost a week and I have yet to hear from them regarding a couple questions I had. To add to it, unfortunately the problem I had before with my display driver crashing during games came back yesterday. I've been wanting to email them regarding that but I don't know how long I gotta wait or even if I'll get a response. I know its Thanksgiving so maybe after this weekend I'll try again.

that's great to hear, their support seems very good i was about to get gt62vr before i contact them and they offer 15% for any configuration!. i'll be placing my order today!!

@Talon - do you think 230watt will be enough for 6700k + 1070? i dont plan to oc but i need it to run stock clock. also does 2400mhz improve alot over 2133mhz ram in gaming? thanks.

230w is 100% adequate for the 6700K at stock and the GTX 1070 Overclocked. I run the 6700K at stock 4.0ghz on all cores and the GTX 1070 with an overclock of +225mhz and the system is fully stable.

2133mhz is fine and in real world use you wouldn't notice a difference.

I love this thread, so much usefull information on performance, BIOS and future upgrades..

I wanted an Alienware 15 R3 but the 6820HK was one hot cookie, while the 6700HQ runs a measily 2.6 GHz :(
Will wait for the Optane ready Z270, i7 7700K, GTX 10xx and GSync 120Hz panel, no logo with 4x HyperX 8GB.

    - just two questions, would it be possible to use MSI Click Bios 5 on the Eurocom Tornado F5?
    - and another one, is it possible to set up 2x Samsung 960 PRO 512 SSD in Bootable RAID 0?

The laptop is looking sleek and sexy, I can't wait!

6700HQ maintains 3.1ghz across 4 cores under load. The 2.6hhz is just the base clock.

I doubt we can use the MSI Click Bios software.. but I guess can't hurt to see what happens.

And yes you can raid two NVME 960 pros if you wanted.. At first it was said RAID 0 NVMe wasn't possible but Eurocom has confirmed it works fine now.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm not a max OC'er that needs the laptop for different powerspecs like you (love your posts), I just want it for the higher base clock of 4.0 GHz without me requiring much tinkering (futureproofing a lil bit although it might even change with Cannonball).

Plus in another (closed) thread I recall you said the thermal paste was solid (which apparently with Alienware is an issue), with not extreme hot temperatures and the laptop was actually pretty quiet with overall quality is beyond the pricing. So I'm going to be more of a stock user..

And that stealthy no logo look.. Enough points for me to get hyped for this marvelous piece of technology :)

Edit: Seems with Skylake RAID0 is bottlenecked by DMI 3.0 so it would only affect write speed..

    @RaymondConstans
I doubt you will notice between a RAID0 NVMe setup vs a single SSD config. You are better investing in a 512GB 960 Pro for OS and software and a 1TB Crucial MX300 for games and or data. Alternatively get the 500GB 960 EVO instead of the Pro and it will be cheaper with a small difference in performance :)

Sorry just got back from overseas and was crazy busy with business and family I was not able to keep up with this thread.
Not sure if it's been covered but would really appreciate a update if any one has the non K version of the 6700 and how it handles heat and the performance difference between the K version? T CPU? Performance in gaming with the T CPU and how it affects gaming?
Anyone get the Samsung screen yet? Does it have G-Sync? Refresh rate?
Will start reading thread from the start to catch up.
Thanks guys and sorry if these questions have already been answered.

I have the 6700 non k version and with an undervolt gaming temps usually hover in the 70s with about 50% fan speed. Less demanding titles or a faster fan speed will of course lower these temps. I feel the 6700 strikes a nice balance between the K and T models. The K is of course overclockable but that will increase the temps you run at as well. The T model boosts to 3.4 GHZ across all four cores, the non K 3.7 and the K 4.0 at stock. I think 3.7 ghz at 65W is the best balance between the three, but that is just me.

    Thanks b-mac!
The most intensive thing I'll be doing is gaming so not sure if I need a K version and the added heat and temps even though it handles the k version CPU's just fine.....decisions,decisions.
Getting a better idea of which way to go.

well you can get a non k version now and upgrade to 7700k next year? maybe 7700k can do higher performance @ similar temps to non-k 6700.

Anyone carrying their F5s as part of their daily carry? How's the weight? Does it fit the usual backpacks made for 15" or do you need a bigger sleeve in the bags because of the thickness?

To piggyback on that, does anyone recommend or use a sleeve for the F5? I have an old Slappa backpack that I use but I wanted a sleeve to keep it in as well. I just can't find one that fits.

When I had my GT60 I bought this sleeve:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caseflex-A...UTF8&qid=1480287306&sr=8-38&keywords=Caseflex

and during travels I would carry it all with this backpack, offering great confort and fitting the GT60 with the sleeve on:

    https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00W79MYRY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The wheight was distributed evenly in my shoulders, never letting me fatigue. Keep in mind that the GT60 is thicker at one end and is more heavy than the F5 so I think it would go better with the above mentioned accessories :)

I just received my Eurocom Tornado F5, with the I7-6700k, 8GB of ram and Nvidia GTX 1070. First thing i did when i received the laptop was install windows and run a few benchmarks to make sure the system was working ok, and it did not crash. I Installed steam and proceeded to play some Crysis 2 Maximum Edition and GTA V they both crashed within 2 minutes. i could not fix the issue by using the DDU ( Display Driver Uninstall ) tool to revert to previous driver. Now almost every game i play is crashing. Saints row the third, Civ 5 and DIRT 3. i will probably call Eurocom on Monday about this. i wanted to know if any of you have had an issue like this, and what drivers you are using on windows 7 so i may try that version. i have tried the following drivers:
(Latest) 375.95 - Instant Reboot When playing any game for more than 2 minutes.
372.54 - Games Crash and System stays stable:
(Driver Provided on Eurocom's Website) 369.09 - Games Crash and system stays stable:
Also worrying that DXDIAG says i only have 4095MB of ram LINK:" http://r2guy.com/img/DXDIAG-Display.png"
I had the same issues on windows 10, and is why i am running 7 now.

Best sleeves IMO. I've always used this brand with my MSI laptops and use this one for my F5. Fits perfectly but not overly snug. The inner parts wrap over the laptop to secure it nicely. The best part about these sleeves is that they're very thin and lightweight which is ideal if you're already carrying the laptop in a padded bag or backpack. In addition the sleeves double as a mouse pad when traveling.

I'm not sure this system plays nice with anything other than Windows 10 honestly. Not sure why people are still holding onto an older OS like 7.

I recommend looking into the ram issue and verifying you have stated amount of ram and also wiping the OS entirely and reinstalling Windows 10 64. Don't install their drivers just go to Nvidia website and install the latest windows 10 version.

I'm running windows 10 and have been having these issues a lot more often now. When I first got it earlier this month it wasn't so bad. I've run all kinds of system and gpu benchmarks to figure out any errors but nothing is popping up. It's weird. I've uninstalled throttlestop, installed windows 2x, tried all nvidia drivers, and still getting display errors. I even tried changing the tdr limit to 8. I've replaced my RAM, checked my GPU to make sure it wasn't a test model like @Talon had. I keep getting livekernal 141 error codes in event viewer as well.

When not doing anything graphically intensive in games it seems fine, but as soon as it gets demanding eventually my screen would flicker to black for a few seconds then come back. When it does, colors would look flushed out and there would be a very faint but constant screen flickering, eventually the game or system would crash.

I emailed support again but they have yet to respond to my emails ever since I got the machine. I'm definitely calling them tomorrow. If anyone has any other advice or any tests i should try please let me know. It seems like I've been having bad luck with laptops lately.

Its completely subjective but I do carry mine everyday. In fact, I just came back from Japan and had it in my backpack on the plane. I left the charger in my luggage as I knew I wouldn't be doing any charging. Overall, my backpack came out to around 15lbs with a bunch of other stuff. It wasn't that bad for carrying it around a couple hours transferring between gates. I wouldn't carry that much everyday though.

As for regular daily use, I carry my charger with me everyday. Again, not so bad since I have it on my back for maybe an hr tops walking around, to/from work. I'm 5'5" and 170lbs if that's any help. Lol, but overall, it really depends on the person. Pack a couple textbooks in your backpack and try walking around with it for a few days, see if it bothers you.

    I use this backpack

When I travel for work the Tornado fits in the very back pouch. I also carry a 13inch Dell laptop and two Ipads for work LOL!. I haven't weighed by backpack yet but I have to imagine its about 15-20 lbs or so.

Have you repasted your notebook? If you did, were there thermal pads over both the VRAM and the VRMs?

Just a wild guess, but try going to Window's Power Options -> PCI Express -> Link State Power Management -> Off -> Reboot computer

I repasted 3x now, 1st two with Kryonaut and the 3rd last night with gelid extreme. I actually replaced the thermal pads last night as well, I recall 4 (incl. the lone square one) over on the GPU and 2 pads coming off the CPU heatsink. I never got nor noticed any thermal issues on the GPU though.

I'm in the process installing windows for the 3rd time. I'm gonna try run a game at near complete stock once the drivers load and see if I still get it. If I do, I give up

Going off on your advice however, I did check the power option while the drivers are being installed right now. On high performance, it is set to off. I've always had it on high performance when I had throttlestop working. This is the 1st time I checked these settings so I doubt they were changed before?

Well, I give up. Ran a custom game in Total War and constant screen flickering came back, eventually crashing the game. Same nvidia display error issues in event viewer. I didn't change any settings or install anything else except Steam this time. Drivers I'm using are all the default ones that came with my laptop on that USB.

Very frustrating. I really like this laptop and the power it potentially holds but I just can't seem to make it work.

I used to get 141 errors, but I resolved it either by turning G-sync off, or by running applications in exclusive fullscreen mode. However, your case appears to happen much more frequently and severely than mine... RMA time?

Unfortunately so. I've tried all sorts of combinations of gsync, vsync, and fast sync by themselves and with each other for the heck of it. I only run my games in fullscreen, never had a reason to not otherwise. I wish I had another graphics card laying around so I could swap it out to see if it's that.

One weird thing I forgot to mention is on my last playthrough with Fallout 4, I started a new game and was able to play fine until I came across that 1st deathclaw. I started to see weird green artifact shapes in the background when using the minigun before the laptop crashed and restarted. That sounds like a thermal or hardware issue yea? I rechecked temps after that and oddly they still all checked out.

I'm not sure if it's related but I also just realized that about 25% of the time, my laptop won't boot. I won't get the eurocom logo and I'd have to hold down the power button to restart. I just realized this now since my laptop should still be relatively "clean."

I wonder if @eurocomsupport can do something like they did with Talon by sending a replacement card instead. I don't mind putting down a security deposit. Being that I live in Hawaii, I'm assuming shipping isn't covered in their warranty.

1st time I had this display issue now. Tried lowering graphic settings to Medium. Computer completely froze.

Did you run separate CPU and RAM stress tests just to be able to rule them out? Did you try with an exernal screen?

In the GT62VR thread, someone was having trouble with G-sync not being available in the Nvidia settings. He changed the bios from "legacy" to "uefi" - and reinstalled Windows 10, which fixed it. Your problem is unrelated and it's a long shot - but maybe check the bios settings?

Yep. Actually, for the 1st 2 weeks 90% of the sress tests I ran were on the CPU. I briefly ran furmark, firestrike, and unigine heaven just to see if my scores lined up with those on here. My scores were just under what others reported, around 3-400 points in firestrike. I guess it didn't bother me enough to make me think twice.

As for my bios, its always been on UEFI. Never had a problem with the gsync option not being available.

I finally got in touch with eurocom support so hopefully I can get this sorted out. I'll update as the process goes on.

    Hi guys

Do you know if anyone in the UK reseller does a version of this barebones? I'm looking at the 1070 version...
