    You're welcome. :D

EDIT: I also have a question. Does anyone know what the so-called Cinematic Mode does? I've seen it I the videos and whatnot, but I've never read or heard what it actually does.

Thanks Ken, and everyone else replied. I can't do it tonight as I am back home, and my neighbor is out... I'll have to try that.

BTW: SSD is updated to firmware 2.0.8. Again, in my neighbor's case, the laptop (with the latest firmware V3), it always defaults to a physical drive slot, regardless what you do in the bios boot order setup. If you put the SSD on other drive slot (near the subwoofer), it will not boot. You'll have to manually press F11 and choose it. Once the SSD was re-inserted in the other slot (near the touchpad), it then worked properly.

When you launch cinema pro it starts Windows media player, adjusts screen resolution and sound for movie watching.

Well thank you for your explanation. :) That makes more sense now. Haha. I was really curious. No one really went over it before, and I had never heard of a cinematic mode.

Here is a noise comparison between GT660R and GT780R. They both feature a 45W CPU and a 75W GPU so they should be equally noisy right? GT660R on top. I made them from notebookreview.

Wrong. Looks like MSI improved it a lot. I am impressed.

But what about the temperature? Maybe the fan on the GT780R is going slower, and therefor less noisy which should lead to a hotter laptop right? GT660R on top.

Wrong. Also here MSI improved a lot. Almost 10 degree celsius colder in average when idling on the GT780R version.

I thought this was interesting :)

I agree Forge. :D Gatta, I'm going to take a guess and say that some of the cables to the buttons are detached or something. Maybe take off the quick access key panel and check? But I could be wrong, and I don't know much about it, so you may wait on Ken to respond.

Intel ME is for IT to remote access to your PC, or to manage/maintain a PC in the network.

If you don't need to use this feature you can just right click onit in the device manager and disable it.

Did you uninstall anything? the MSI S-Bar program is still there?

Or just like kevin92777 said the ribbon could be getting loose. you can carefully remove the control bar to check both end of the ribbon cable.

Are there any settings to disable the CPU throttling? Maybe Disable the screen timeout? Will that work?

One more thing. Is it possible to Disable the Raid 0 configuration at home (like in desktops)? Does the laptop come with a restore disk? I was wondering why the windows experience for disk speed is 5.9 which is not any faster than an a single drive. Shouldn't this be any faster since its in Raid 0 as a default?

I went back into MSconfig and but the S-Bar back on the desktop, now all the keys on the touch pad works...I guess I will have to leave with the s-bar star in the desktop, any way of removing the S-bar icon and maybe save it on the task bar???

When I first got my 1722 I had the same problem with my pc telling my I did not have a camera device instled. I soon realized one of the panel buttons turns the web cam feature on and off. I forget what button it is since I just leave it as is. Try tapping p1 or some other one until it comes back.

Officially yes, you cannot upgrade it yourself without voiding the warranty... It needs to be done at an MSI authorized service center...

Unofficially, here is some clarification from Ken:

regardless of the retailer? and also i am thinking of picking it up locally because i have no exp. buying online. i've read somewhere in the forum that 1gb vram is 128 bit. looking up a local retailer the said MSI is only 1gb.
    MSI GT780R-014 w/ Core i7 2630QM, 16GB, 1TB, Blu-ray Combo, 17.3in Full HD, GeForce GTX560M, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit at Memory Express Computers
can someone confirm if this is accurate? I've been itching to get one but i think they won't have stock atleast for a few weeks.

Wow, watching that last unboxing video, I felt like I was listening to Michael Cera unboxing my laptop. xDD It was pretty awesome. And yes, I remember Ken saying that unofficially, he'd never had a problem with MSI not taking laptops that had the sticker broken.

Note the -014 after the GT780R. It's a different model. It's got BD as stock as well. It's very possible that it's not a mistake and that this particular model has 128bit 1gb 560m as 1gb can only be 128bit with current technology.

The model we have talked about so far in this thread is the GT780R-012US

UPDATE: i believe i saw this model earlier on this thread someone mentioned the GT780R-014US and it was only available in canada. is the site canadian, quatrei?

The USA model with the BD drive I am pretty sure the part number is GT780R-057US. The current info we have the only difference is the addition of the BD drive. The vga is the same 560M 1.5GB

Yes, it is a canadian site. When they first posted that model on their site, it was showing as 8gb ram. Then later got changed to 16gb. I guess they are not fully sure yet as to what the specs are at this point. I really do hope its a 192bit one, if not i might have to order online from xotic or gentech.

Yeah, I wouldn't settle for a 1GB 128 bit 560m, either. Xotic and GenTech offer good models and prices. I went with GenTech, though. Ken's been a huge help, and they seem pretty fast.

I've seen Linus Tech unboxing of the GT780R a while ago, he had a problem with the backlit keyboard.

The wires connected to the keyboard were loose, did you guys face the same problem?

How good is the subwoofer? How does it compare to Asus models with subwoofers (N71, G73...)? Does it produce low bass to your satisfaction? I know the subwoofer is very small, but on my Asus N71 it really does go to 100Hz, which is good for a laptop sub.

Can someone of the owners test the speakers how well they can play low sounds?
On this page TestSounds.com - Pure digital sounds to test your audio systems - Free MP3 - From 20 Hz to 20.000Hz @ -10dB you can download test sounds. "Sinus 125 Hz" should be easy, but can you hear anything when playing the "Sinus 100 Hz"?

Does a 1GB GTX560M presently exist, or for that matter, a GT780R model with a 2GB GTX560M? I have not seen any such MSI SKU, so a 128-bit GTX560M card is not relevant here, right? The closest I've seen in this MSI series, is in the lessor GX780, with the 1GB GTX555M.

Also, aren't the 2GB and 3GB GTX560M cards produced by Asus?

I have to agree with Ken here. I think the MSI SKU (with 1GB GTX560M) advertised by Memory Express (of Canada), is nothing more than a typo error. All other sellers of this SKU in Canada, are reporting the GTX560M as having 1.5GB of GDDR5.

    Am I missing something here?

    :)

    For real?
I've basically heard that performance between the different GB 560's are not too big.
I know ASUS has a VX model with a 3 GB 560M GTX and was told its just a marketing gimick by nVidia( more is better) for people that don't know any better.
    Is performance that much better?
Dam you nVidia and your crazy naming products the same thing but being different to just cause confusion.
I like nVidia GPU's but the could do a better job renaming cards, OK fine you want to call the different cards the same at least have them in different classes
    Example
    1 GB 560M GTX = class A ( base card, good performance)
    1.5 GB 560M GTX= class B( better performance)
    2 GB 560M GTX= class C ( even better performance)
    3 GB 560M GTX= class D ( best performance)
Now I'm not saying this is how good each different version is and how they compare( because I don't know) just an example of how they should be named to cause less confusion to those that just are not sure.

Will MSI send a replacement keyboard only? I've checked my neighbor's computer, removed the ribbon cables, reconnected it. Same symptom. Some buttons do not register when you type (normal typing). You'd have to type HARD on the keys to make it work. Notable keys are: ESC, TAB, Shift, 1234,QWER, and spacebar. He has registered the product with MSI, hopefully they'll just send him a replacement keyboard as he doesn't want to go through the pain not having a laptop, during the exchange. All LEDs work, but some keys are difficult to use.

Anyone else notice this issue? Please share your experience.

He is also very upset regarding the mis-leading camera (720P) resolution, driver issues. He is telling me that the performance of the camera is no different than his previous 1 megapixel (resolution wise). I hope MSI sort this issues out quickly...

Lastly, he complains that the touch pad is way too sensitive (clicks, NOT the click buttons but touch pad clicks). It could be user preference issues, and just different from what he is used to, but I am beginning to see some problems.

Finally, he is very upset regarding the fact that Optical drive eject button doesn't work sometimes. He has the S-Bar software running. When this occurs, he has to manually launch explorer, right click on the drive letter, and select eject. Why would they skimp out on a simple trusted eject button on the drive?

He just called to update me on the CD drive eject issue. He noticed that the eject button during the bios post (during the boot) works fine. Which means, S-bar is taking control of the eject button once the OS is up and running. They need to decouple this eject button from the S-Bar and let the OS do its things. There is absolutely no value in using S-bar just to eject your CD. Serious flaw in opinion. This has nothing to do with user experience. If the eject button works simply within the BIOS, they should've left this thing alone.

MSI: If you're listening / reading this, please fix this. There is no need to hijack the eject button with S-Bar. Who wants a big freakin blue star in the middle of your desktop all the time? Reduce it to a tray icon. Other than the cinema mode, there is no need for S-Bar. I hope they'll wise up and get rid of this bloat ware.

1.5GB and 3GB are 192 bit because you can`t make a card with 2GB and a 192 bit bus. Reason? VRAM chips are 32 bit each, which means you have to have 6 of them to get 192 bit (6 x 32bit). VRAM chips are either 256 MB or 512MB. So:
    256MB x 6 = 1536MB/1.5GB
    512MB x 6 = 3072MB/3GB

    128 bit is 4 VRAM chips (4 x 32bit). They are still 256MB or 512MB. So:
    256MB x 4 = 1024MB/1GB
    512MB x 4 = 2048MB/2GB

As for who is the best. See these screenshots from GPU-Z and judge for yourself:
    128 bit GTX 460M
    [IMG]

    192 bit GTX 460M
    [IMG]

    16 ROPs vs 24 ROPs. Pixel fillrate 10.8GB vs 16.2GB. Bandwith 40GB/s vs 60GB/s.

So that memory argument is kinda useless because because of this bus width difference. 192 bit will r*pe the 128 bit versions even though you compare a 1.5GB 192 bit to a 2GB 128 bit where the 128 bit have 500MB more memory.
People who bought the G73 from BestBuy was furious because they included the 128 bit.
Sadly this is also the case with GTX 560M. If you look at Nvidia`s homepage you`ll see them quote "UP to 192 bit", which means some OEMs will sell different versions. So be careful :)

    Hey guys
Just got mine on saturday :)

I am a bit concerned about my GPU tempratures, Its idling at about 38-42 Degrees Celsius, and when playing Mafia II on Highest settings, can reach 76 Degress Celcius. Is this normal?

    Thanks guys!

Um, I don't know for see, but I think that that may be much hotter than I've seen in revises and such. I could be wrong though. But that does sound pretty hot. Hopefully, if something it wrong, it's something you can fix yourself. I'm gonna be sad if I have to send mine back for something like that. D:

It is totally normal...no where near the 110 shutoff.

Our Furmark testing shows temps in the low to mid 80's...76 is totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Oh, yeah, that wouldn't be much fun. D: Oh, you can go watch Ken's video on the GT780R. He goes over the idle temps, so you can compare it to his! That might be of a little assistance.

EDIT: Or you could just read the post above mine. xDD
