Can anybody let me know if the Bluetooth switch functions while using externla USB Bluetooth dongle in case you configured your GT780R with "Intel Ultimate-N 6300 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless LAN with 3 antenna mod"?
I am planning to get this wireless card but I don't want to sacrifice Bluetooth button functionality :)

X-kom had GT780 model available on 20th June, faster than most retailers in Europe. The same case was with Dell XPS, Asus G74SX/G53SX and few more times.

The keyboard is supposed to register 10 simultaneous key presses. There was a blurb earlier about updating some firmware.... might be in the OP by now.

    Hello Midzi,
The retailers in US already had GT780 ~one month before. Maybe someone here in the forum can confirm when GT 780 was available in the US?
That would mean August timeline is possible in US for GT780DXR.
    Cheers

i would be thoroughly shocked if the Bluetooth button turned on/off a USB dongle. You could just unplug the dongle. :)

You can turn off a USB dongle via Windows. IIRC right click on the Bluetooth symbol in the tray and turn off adapter is one of the choices.

I am sure the Bluetooth toggle button is not hard wired to the Bluetooth chipset. It would just generate a software interrupt to the OS via MSI software which would then soft off the USB device. That is my understanding.
Take for example when you use the hardware keys for turning volume on a laptop either the internal speakers or any externally connected speakers/headphones volume is adjusted depending upon the external connection is active or not. Only the hard volume key drivers should be up and running.

That is a hardware issue. You need to contact your vendor to either have your keyboard, or your MSI GT780R replaced.

Yes, there is a new EC firmware update to accomodate the new 180W power adapter of the GT780DXR, and also two new bios updates to "Set MXM VGA compatibility to 180W".

The EC update for keyboard recognition (1761-0415.zip), should be incorporated within this last EC update (1761-1416.zip).

To not loose Bluetooth functionality, you need to insure your upgrade wireless card is a Wireless/Bluetooth combo card..... like the Intel 6230, otherwise you will have to use a Bluetooth USB dongle. That was my understanding when I opted to the BigFoot Killer Wireless-N....... unfortunately though I had a Bluetooth dongle, I never tried to see if Fn key or control bar functions work with the USB dongle. Per what I was told by my reseller, I assumed they would not.

    Ken?

I was just reading the online manual for the GT780 series and in the model description they are talking about 2 versions for the 570m of the upcoming GTX model, one with 1.5Go and the other with 3Go of RAM.

Then go for the 1.5GB if the 3.0GB is more expensive. You don`t need anything more than that. :)

There won't be a big difference in the 3GB DDR5 vs 1.5GB DDR5. The only way to see a difference is if a user was exporting onto a 30"+ screen and running the game. In 3D mode there will be a larger difference, theoretically up to a 10 frame difference. In 3D rendering there may also be a difference but for most geeks who are just playing games natively on the panel there will be minimal gain.

someone knows if the screen in the gt780r-12US sold by NewEgg.ca is different from the gt780-14US from NCIX?

They are both mate type screen but there is no precision about the gamut. I want to be sure that it the same quality everywhere.

No it didn't work that way, the Bluetooth on/off button only works for the combo card, does not turn on/off with USB Bluetooth device.

No the DXR only have 60Hz screen but you can still output to 3D TV via HDMI 1.4 port.

There is only one type of screen for GT780R, the CMO1720 N17HGE-L11 which should be the 72% color gamut.

Would anyone know how to recover the GT780R back to the factory recovery partitions? Just as it came from factory.

Unfortunately I left my laptop in the hands of an overconfident noob that deleted the recovery partitions trying to install Ubuntu as part of a dual boot Win 7 Pro setup.

I have the Win 7 repair disk and the drivers disk that came with the laptop, but no image disks unfortunately.

Any help on this one would be appreciated ;)

It's just not that easy being green.

Hey guys. I just got my GT780R-012US. I am finding the screen to be somewhat weird; the white is not quite white as if it was dirty... it is hard to explain. Has anyone experienced this? Do you think my screen might be defective?

    thanks!

I guess you never see matte screen before ? It's grainy white.
if you prefer "clean" white then you should get glossy screen.

My last notebook was a Dell Latitude D630 which has a MATTE screen and is "cleaner" than this one. However, it is a good 4 years old. Maybe technology just changed since then...

Anyways, from your answer it seems it is not a defect. Thank you

Well I finally got answer from a helpful MSI technician to why they don`t plan on using Optimus with the new GT780DXR. I must say it makes sense now

@tonhaojr: What you are experiencing is the Matte effect. There are many people who commented on that when they purchased a Sager laptop with matte screen and they came from a glossy screen. They thought it was something wrong with then display but it turned out it was the way matte screen are supposed to work. So I don`t think there is anything wrong with your display.

Even the cable has been checked it might still get loose during shipping, so you probably want to check the ribbon or re-connect the ribbon.

what's the battery life for high performance mode, watching movies.. can your gt780r make an hour and half? I can't test mine coz I sent mine for RMA but the way I remember, my old gateway laptop that was rated 4.5 hours battery life with i5 430m processor only lasted 2 hours on battery, high performance mode while watching movies. gt780r.. i guess it would last maybe 80-90 mins at top?

We battery tested the MSI GT780R and watching a DVD we got right at 3 hours. For normal computing you will get maybe a half an hour or so more.

    Hi!

I'm seriously interested in this laptop.
I'm looking at the 057 Model like shown here:
    Newegg.ca - MSI GT780R-057US Notebook Intel Core i7 2630QM(2.00GHz) 17.3" 16GB Memory 1.5TB HDD 7200rpm Blu-Ray Burner NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M

Basically I've read through this thread and am worried about ordering such an expensive product that may have a chance of being defective.

I saw the 014 model at my local ncix, and found that the keyboard flex does not bother me with typing, and that the keyboard feels nice, but I couldn't tell whether the backlight was working all the way across because of the brightly lit store.

The touch buttons along the back mostly didn't work on this display model.
The eject, power off display, buttons didn't work at all
the P1 button and fan button worked if I pressed hard
and the other buttons I couldn't really tell

I think this may be because the laptop had been restored with a version of win 7 ncix uses for display models, and hasn't had the drivers installed properly(did have the star dock thing at the top though)

also showed signs of wear and tear.

Out of the box these buttons should work right? and how responsive are they?(should they be?)

And what is the likely hood of having keyboard issues(such as dead backlight areas and malfunctioning keys) and how willing is MSI to replace such things under warranty?

If keys don't work they will certainly replace it right? Or I can take it back to where I got it for replacement?

I've used apple computers up till now, and have been happy with simply taking products to the apple store, and they fix issues/give replacement products and move over your harddrive, and I've been impressed with their service, but have had many issues.
I would probably stick with them except now that I'm after a laptop, I think that their price tag of $2500 for a 17" is ridiculous and it doesn't even have bluray!
And I'm sick of the apple operating system(not that I think windows is better much better, but it seems more appropriate for what I want this laptop for - 3D graphics editing, movie production, programming, school, and of course, gaming)

I could pick this thing up this week(I have some family members who work for wholesalers, so I can get it at wholesale price, likely) and just want to get an opinion on these topics. I'm really excited about getting a new laptop before I start school again, and don't want to be disappointed with it.

    Thank you.
