My mistake, I meant the 1102 wireless card was giving me trouble.

I went ahead and swapped in the older Intel 6230 and lo and behold, 0 connectivity problems anymore.
I'll steer clear of Killer wireless in future, I lost many a game due to packet loss/dropped connections from that card.

Sometimes, it's just driver issue, or compatibility issue, but glad to know that you got it resolved.

Is it possible to turn off MSI Hybrid Power? What is the purpose of this technology?

Nope, it is built into the system. It's purpose is to give extra power for the GPU when needed, if it exceeds the 180W power supply. This is done by combining the power of the PSU and the battery. It kicks in automatically, and the software installed is merely to show you if it's currently ON or OFF.

It was done to avoid using higher power Power Supplies on the GT70. Due to this, we can't use external power supplies with higher power, as the notebook automatically uses battery if 180w is exceeded.

Those are the stock drives, they are each a regular mSATA slot capable of taking any standard mSATA drive and running in any configuration like 3 separate drives.

You can turn it off if you remove the battery, since it is what made of Hybrid Power.

    Hi guys
I've just picked up my GT60 (870m, 4800mq, 3k display) and so far am loving it.
My main concern is with the temperatures.. Gaming with 100% GPU utilization the GPU quickly gets up into the high 80's and even low 90's despite the fan speed still being relatively quiet. If I hit the turbofan button they quickly come back down to 80C or less but then I have no choice but to use headphones.
Basically I want a way to get the fan to ramp up a bit sooner to keep the temps below a safe 85C (without fiddling too much and breaking something in the bios).
From what I've read "Fan control Tools by Pherein" does the trick but the thread is pretty dead (can't find a download) so I was just wondering if somebody has it working well on our set up and if they could link the file needed for me.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hello all,

On my GT70 2PC I've found out that the microphone input volume is too low, I checked the settings that all seems fine. Is this a hardware issue or software?

Temperature range is acceptable despite the peak at low 90s, make sure to update the BIOS and EC to the newest version to ensure the best result.
Additionally, changing the thermal compound to IC diamond is definitely recommended for best heat transferring efficiency. Or you can use a notebook cooler to help to drive the heat away.
If you want custom EC, then best to check with Svet at MSI Forum.

Go to Microphone property and enable mic boost to +20 to resolve this issue, do not set this setting to +30.

    Hi guys,

I'm about to buy the MSI GT70 Dominator 895. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I do like some good frame rates with good quality images. I'm also in a low budget (not that low). The first model that I was looking was the Asus G750JM (1213 - Amazon) but I saw some complaints about the display which I do care in a laptop. I went to a best buy today but didn't find the display that bad. Before that, due to some negative reviews for the asus, I started to search for other brands until get to the MSI GT70 (my brother has a GT60 Dominator and despite the volume of the fan he loves it). The price was getting out of my range so I decided to downgrade the laptop through Xotic PC, thus if I choose the I7 4700 instead of I7 4800 I can pay 1303 with cash discount.
What do you guys think of my choices? Am I going to suffer due to this downgrade? What are the general problems of the GT70 so far? (the GT60 has some problems with the microphone and webcam, for example)

    sorry for my bad english

    Thank you!

Be aware the latest GT60 uses an IPS display which is really nice, but IPS 17.3" panels are not made yet so the 17" use a standard TN display (as will all the 17.3" machines) the stock panel is better than asus though.

Have any of you have issues when using the USB 3.0 ports on the left of the laptop, routing the cable towards the back? This puts the cable directly in the path of the exhaust fan. I am concern the heat would effect performance of maybe even damage the cable.

I think that MSI GT70 Dominator 895 is much more better than the Asus G750JM. If you want to buy MSI GT70 Dominator 895 with Intel Core i7 4810 instead of the old 4700 you can consider buying it from Amazon. Here it is the link: http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT70-Domi...3-Inch/dp/B00IMTQ6I6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
It also says that is with I7 4800, but is actually with 4810. Xotic PC and other distributors have it with 4800.

Thank you so much! I finally decided for the GT70 dominator 895. I really have to save some money though, so I think that for gaming the I7 4700 will not be bad. Do you guys agree?
Another thing that I would like to do is to install a SSD. Will the SSD make too much difference?
My idea is to buy the laptop at Xotic pc and buy a SSD and install by myself (buy the SSD during the black friday) but I'm also afraid of doing something wrong and losing the warranty. Therefore, would be better to add the SSD through Xotic and spend 30 bucks extra assuring that I'm not putting the laptop in risk?

    @edit
Another question regarding the SSD. If I decide to buy at Xotic PC I should choose the SSD as primary drive otherwise I would get the system installed in the hard drive, right? I don't think I'm being clear enough. They give the option of choosing the SSD inside of a slot or as primary or secondary drive, so I don't know the cheaper but useful configuration.

Putting an SSD is nothing that would damage your warranty. If you find a better deal elsewhere for the SSD you can go buy that :)

Games will not fuffer from Core i7 4700. It is a very capable CPU and while in some games the 4800 will win, it doesn't mean the 4700 will be far behind at all :D It is a great processor.

If you do get an SSD, it is best to install windows on it, regardless of which bay you use (primary or secondary).

oh thanks thats very helpful. Guess I have to see the 3K screen for myself to see the magic, otherwise this current screen is too good for me already, way better than what used to be in the MSI 15" with 570M way back.

I have to admit you had me second guessing myself so I double checked. All of the 15.6" 1080p models from msi use ips displays except for the gp line.

Not all 15.6" 1080P uses IPS panel.

IPS is trademark of LG, other manufacturers can not use. GS60 Ghost for example, they use 3 different panels: 3K, Samsung SDC324C PLS (IPS equivalent) 1080P and on GS60 Ghost-012 and 013 1080P they use Chi Mei CMN15B9. So non of them are IPS.

They use in plane switching techniques, we could get down an dirty an talk about exact technologies but to the average consumer they can treat it like an IPS display with the higher viewing angles. By saying it's not IPS they will assume you mean it is TN which they are not.

They are still not the same, at least the response time are not the same. If it's IPS people expect LG panel because of the trademark. I preferred IPS equivalent or PLS if it's a Samsung panel. The Chi Mei CMN15B9 1080P on GS60 Ghost-012/013 looks even totally different, not even close.

I think you are thinking of PLS an AVHA when it comes to trade marks by the way being used by specific companies as IPS has been around for some time now and you have companies like Panasonic and AUO using it an then putting their own custom twist on the technology.

If you shop for those panels they are listed as IPS though and again even on this forum people will recognise IPS and TN maybe AVHA if you are lucky so yeah it is an IPS panel an not TN.

Hello! I own a GT70 2PC, and I was just wondering if there was any way I could change the display from running off the integrated graphics card to the 870m. Possibly using an unlocked bios?
I've run into a few issues where this really seems to be an issue, and I would love for there to be some kind of work around.

To give a little more insight into what my problem is: When I'm trying to stream using OBS it crashes because the games I'm trying to stream are running off of a different video card than what my display is using. Which brings up another question: If I get an external monitor, will this still be a problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

We checked with MSI, and according to them.
    1. All 3K panel use IPS panel.
    2. Some of the 15.6" (non-3K models) are IPS and some are not (would be stated as IPS or otherwise).

unfortunately, the laptop display is tied to the integrated graphics. HDMI and Display port, however, are not and run directly from the nvidia GPU. You should have no problems using external monitor as it uses your dedicated GPU.

Is it windows 8? UEFI issues? You need to go to change PC settings, then to the Update and recovery menu, Recovery tab, advanced startup and select boot to UEFI so that you can change such settings.

As I said as far as I am aware the GP series are TN while the GS, GE and GT would be IPS.

At the very least they use an eDP connector in all models with 2x mini DP + HDMI on the GT series so I am surprised you offer the 95% panel on the -424 which I did not realise they made in eDP form.

Seems like an OS issue, have you created recovery discs before?
If not, then contact MSI for a new set to be sent to you.

Hi people. I have MS 1763 with GTX 870M which is the same case as GT70. I was hoping that you can help me.

My complaint is that GTX 870M heats up to 87 degrees while my CPU only heats up to 70 degrees (Turbo Boost disabled). As soon as it heats up to 87 degrees, the fan starting to spin really fast. Temps don't go up after that. Are these temps normal? Or is it heats up that much because this GPU almost an overclocked version of GTX 770M? I am not sure if this is true, I just heard it from some people.

By the way, I have been using AMD Radeon GPU before I bought this laptop. In AMD's Enduro which is equivalent NVIDIA's Optimus, I could be apply Global Settings for each power plan. For example, I did set High Performance power plan to AMD Radeon GPU and set Balanced power plan to Intel HD Graphics. That way, I could be able to change my active GPU for just one click. If I did not in the game, I select Balanced power plan to activate Intel HD 4000. If I am about to enter to the game, I switched to High Performance power plan. They work like a charm. For assuming I tell you to that clear, can I do the same thing on this system?

By the way, am I able to disable startup NVIDIA GeForce Experience and Control Center? I unchecked their startups from MSCONFIG, but they keep opening.

For the last question, how can I activate my camera? I activated on SCM but nothing happens. Do you I need to download Cyberlink something in order to work?

Thanks in advance and also sorry for my grammer.

    hi all :hi2:

Just bought my first MSI computer, the GT70 2PC "Dominator" with the GTX 870m
And so far I love it. The keyboard is great, the display is excellent, and it is as fast as can be.

I've downloaded and installed all of the Windows 8.1 updates and removed the Norton trial software suite in favor of using Windows Defender, which I'm told should serve me well. But there is a lot of what I think is bloatware on here, and I was wondering how much of it everyone removed upon getting their laptop.

This is what I'm seeing - what would you all keep and what would you all get rid of?

    • Dragon Gaming Center
    • Intel Rapid Storage Technology
    • Steel Series (fairly sure I should keep this)
    • Killer Network Manager
    • Sound Blaster Cinema
    • SCM
    • MSI Remind Manager
    • Realtek HD Audio Manager

Normally I'd just get rid of it all, but some of this looks important. Is there a good place to go that documents what all of this is for?

    Many thanks for your help!

The temps are normal. The 870m is a bigger core than the 770m running at a higher frequency.

Does anyone have those settings on Nvidia Battery Boost GTX 800M cards?

It seems that some of them are missing. For example Enable per game custom settings when running on battery is not available on MSI GT70 Dominator.
Here it is the article: Nvidia Battery Boost Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Can anyone with Nvidia GTX 880M,870M,860M confirm whether have those settings or not?

I got a quick simple question. For some reason my backlit keyboard only turns on once logged into windows. It would be nice if it can turn on at the login screen for windows 8.1. So yeah, is there a way to do that, or do I have to put in my password at the windows 8.1 login screen, and let creative sound blaster load (that's when the backlit activates at current time)

I think it loaded once you have logged in because the steel series software will kick in at the time. So yeah, afraid nothing can be done far as I know.

You could try using the keyboard shortcut to turn it on.
