0.5mm on all is best, 0.5mm is required on vram iirc.

Hi, do you know about how to overclock the GPU (880M)?
because, I was trying but the maximum values permitted it was 1005-1300 (originaly 954-1250).
Is there another way to overclock? I'm using afterburner.
Best Regards & thanks in advance!!!

Any overclocking requires an unlocked bios. Tech inferno is the place for that.

Now I remember something. MSI 880m vBIOS set the thermal limit to 93c. So it may be possible that your repaste actually work by having longer maximum boost of 993MHz?

Have you checked with Svet from MSI forum about this limitation?
Perhaps it's just a thermal dissipating capacity limitation and GPU throttles down to protect itself.

In my case I would say no, it varied a small amount but always hit 93C within a few mins, on one of the paste jobs it stayed at 93 noticeably less than the others but it wasn't enough for me to be excited about.

I hate repasting, not sure if I mentioned that. I have an EE degree and have worked around electronics my whole life from childhood through the military and now mainly as a hobby. I just rarely get good results and will stick with stock as long as I'm comfortable. I don't overclock anymore so I just need acceptable, I don't need the coolest possible CPU/GPU.

All that said, I got the MX-4 in a couple days ago and repasted the GPU only again, one last time, (5 times total now?), and I am excited about the results. I am maxing about 85C vs the 93C under the same conditions in Watch dogs, and less demanding games I am maxing about 75 where I was hitting 93C as well. That may not seem much to others who have excellent lower temps, but that is "good enough" for me

I swear my GPU heatsink seemed a bit convex so that only a small portion was making good contact, maybe the MX-4 helped bridge that small gap a bit? I'm not sure but I'm done messing with it and am happy enough. Mid 70's in most of my games, and mid 80's in most demanding is acceptable to me.

If you mean the Xbox 360 wireless controller then you will need to get a wireless receiver.

THIS is what you will need.

Ok I am coming from a GS70 stealth pro to the GT70 dom pro 880m loving it repasted with glid extreme with good results my issue id with stress tests as in prime and insert gpu test here.

If I start prime first full 8 threads test then the gpu test I get about 20 to 40% of gpu usage in the dragon center tool if I start the gpu test first I get 20 to 30% cpu usage I just can't get the 99% cpu and 99% gpu is it normal for the gt70/gt60 the individual benchmark are perfect.

I will post screen shots but I did try furmark and prime and it worked fine as in 2 FPS drop in the gpu and temps was gpu 87 and cpu 84 after 30 minutes temps are with GELID extreme repast.

When I use msi kumbuster or uengine plus prime witch ever I start first works as it should but the other process will not go over 40% as in prime plus kumbuster or prime plus uengine.

I will post screen shots later to day.

I am needing an answer to this question because it is doing my head in.

I received my MSI GT70 2PE Dominator Pro with what I believe to be scratches on both the Dragon badge on the outer case of the screen and scratches on the touch pad at the far side of the keyboard directly below the screen.

I have contacted the supplier that I purchased the notebook from and, as much as they have been cooperative and understanding regarding my concerns and wanting to possibly receive a replacement notebook, they think that the touch pad may in fact have a protective film on it that I have just not recognised as being removable.

I have included a link to a forum that shows a number of good photos that show the touch pad in question. The sixth photo down shows a close up of the touch pad.

    http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh....php?t=1129079

I am wanting to hear from anyone who has previously owned an MSI notebook of this type or anyone who can confirm whether there is in fact a protective film that is applied extremely closely to the surface of the touch pad but is actually removable. There are bubbles and small areas of peeling that make me believe that it may be possible to remove some form of layer but unlike the other protective plastics that came on the keyboard and webcam, there is no lip or additional piece of plastic for me to grasp to facilitate in removing any plastic..?

I will have to go home again tonight and have a second really close look at the Dragon badge to see if there is also a very close to the surface plastic film to be removed. I checked last night but could not see anything, but will double check again...

Any help would be much appreciated as the sooner I get a definitive answer, the sooner I can confirm the request for a replacement.

    Thank you!

    Syn

There is a film on the dragon logo on the back of the display nothing on the track pad.

I can't access your photos to see but on track pads the surface is a "sticker" and could be unproperly installed if it is I don't know what I would do but first I would call MSI.

Sorry you are asking about the short cut keys just below the screen yes there is a film on there also just like the back of the screen logo you have to work at it a bit if you don't have nails lol, and no there is no tab to lift them from like the keyboard just the sticker. At first I though my logo on the back of the screen was full of scratches but not it was just the film the logo is perfect and shortcut keys are all good also.

    Chris.

I need help =( so I have had my DominatorPro 889 since March and had zero problems. Now, randomly, my microphone and headset are SUPER quiet. I have not ran windows update or installed anything new since it was last working properly. When I say super quiet, I mean I have to scream into the mic. The same is true for the lid/webcam mic. I have tried a ton of things and Googled my face off.

    - Reinstal Driver
    - Driver Sweeper then Reinstall Driver
    - Newest MSI driver
    - Newest Realtek driver
    - Checked all the volume settings including effects and boost.
    - Tried 5 different headsets.
    - line in mute etc messed with all the sliders

I am about to format and try a fresh install, but before I did I wanted to see if someone had any ideas? If I uninstall the realtek software - everything is fine EXCEPT then the speakers don't sound as good. But that at least tells me it shouldn't be hardware related. Another odd thing is that the headphone mic and an external mic plugged into the jack showed up as separate items in recording devices of Windows - but now it is only a single item and I never paid attention, but the speakers have several channels available to adjust even when set to stereo.

Thanks for any information you can give.

Have you done a soft reset on the system? Remove the main battery and AC and leave it for a couple of minutes, plug it back in and see if it helps.

    Hi guys!

I've just bought this great notebook 2 weeks ago and it has been great so far. I've never had any kind of problem with windows 8 but now I think I may have. The problem is the following:
I was going to play with my brother so I was trying to use a headset. The microphone was not working well, I thought that it would have any relation with the headset, since it was brand new, but it wasn't. The most weird is that using the windows recorder the sound was good but in skype he couldn't listen to me. I made a small research and saw that it would be due to the driver, so i used the program called SlimDrive to check for updates. It found one for the Realtek and I set to install. I started the installation and out of the blue the computer rebooted, actually it went to the windows update screen (the blue one with that loading message). It took so much time to finish the update and finally reboot, which I found kind of annoying. I thought that the driver might had some influence, but when the computed finally booted the driver installation hadn't started. Well,I finished it and the it didn't solve the problem. I decided to reboot and the laptop took a while to boot again. I thought that it would be due to the driver installation. Since there were no improvement and it was booting very slowly I chose to restore the system. The restore took almost one hour and didn't finish (btw, I chose to restore before the driver installation, not windows update) thanks to my lack of patience I hold the power button until it fades out so I could start again. It showed an error message but thanks to god it booted. Idk if the restore finished but the weirdest thing is that the microphone started to work!! I was happy BUT I tried to update my lol client (yes, I play league of legends) and it doesn't even start to update, it freezes on 0%, and sometimes when I'm shutting down the laptop showed twice that the task host windows was running. I'm pretty sure that the windows update didn't run as it should have gone so I'm feeling some of the effects now. I would like to know your opinion! It shows that my system is up to date, so I can't force a windows update to fix the last one. Should I try to restore the system? What should I do?

Sorry for my English, I'm living in America for 6 months so my English level is not that good yet

    Thanks for the help

Did you check which mic skype is set to use? It may still be pointing to the internal one, go into settings and check :)

Yes. Indeed I installed the "desktop" version of skype so I could access volume controls, but nothing changed. The headset is working fine, the problem would be if I should or not restore the computer. Or if I should or not try to fix the last windows update because I'm almost sure that the last update didn't installed correctly.

I have a question about MSI GT70 Dominator warranty sticker. Does breaking the sticker void the warranty in US and in Europe? I asked this question to MSI, but they don't reply.

All I did is take a exacto blade and removed the sticker and put it on an old sticker pad that had no more stickers on it if I have to return the laptop I will just stick it back :) and done.

Same, they can't void your warranty by doing upgrades as long as you don't damage the system in the process.
But they can tell that you have tempered the system so if the system fails to work, then they will pay more attention to damages.

This sticker is complete nonsense. MSI is the only one company that has it on all notebooks. I hope the future models not to have it, as for example is MSI GT72 Dominator Pro.
By the way is it going to be a model of MSI GT72 Dominator with Nvidia GTX 870M for around 1500$.

It was never enforced right from the beginning anyway.
They have it because there are people who steal components and then return them afterwards.
It's for security purposes instead of warranty-related.
ASUS had them for years and then stopped doing that.

I remember the more obnoxious stickers were the ones that were inside the notebook, on the CPU screw or things like that.

On my current GT60, I simply perforated the warranty sticker to get it open haha, didn't even look at it! :D

No worries, MSI doesn't even care about the stickers, so just break it.

    I currently have a GT70 2PC Dominator.
Is it possible to replace the Killer E2200 network card with the Intel Advanced-N 6230 from my older GT780DXR? I've had nothing but trouble with the E2200 so far, unreliable connection, ping spikes, the works.
Or does anyone know of a fix to get it to perform properly under Windows 8.1? I've done the supposed clean install of just the driver, but it isn't as consistent as I expected.

The E2200 is the LAN and is soldered, the wireless (1102 I believe) is on a mini PCI-E card and can be replaced.

The LAN doesn't have much issues anymore since it has been out there for a long time, but it cannot be replaced.
Have you tried updating the driver to the latest version?

You can install 6230 or 7260 wireless card onto your GT780DXR but it is just wireless only.
