I have a MSI 16f2 Barebone , and I have Ubuntu 10.10, 11.10 [what I use 90% of the time], 12.04 beta, windows 7 and windows 8 preview. I just got a Bigfoot Killer 11.03 and it works in 11.10, giving speeds a little over 200, but I only have 2 antennas, I will add a third as soon as I can get one. I will try it in other OS's also, but I expect it to work. It uses the default ath9k wireless driver. I will see if I can do better.
"Additional drivers" takes care of my Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M Graphics, no other drivers installed.

These are the antennas I use.

The 3rd antenna is not that hard to install.

The bezel around the lcd needs to be removed so the antenna can be placed in an empty spot along the edge and the Touch Control Bar needs to be lifted out of the case so the antenna wire that comes down from behind the lcd panel, through the hinge and onto connection #3 on the wireless card.

Hello, i got msi 1761 barebone, recently i bought intel centrino 6230 from ebay to replace the n130 wireless, but the 6230 wireless part not working, in device manager displays code 10 device cannot start, the bluetooth working. Anyone knows whats my problem? Do these msi 1761 got wireless card whitelist? Or maybe the 6230 wireless card is defective?

Did you uninstall the N130 and shut down the notebook first. Then put in the 6230?

A Code 10 error is generated when Device Manager can't start the hardware device, a situation usually caused by outdated or corrupted drivers.

Reinstall the drivers for the device. Uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the device is a likely solution to a Code 10 error.

What exactly are listed in Device Manager>Network Adapters?

I seem to remember once when I changed from a stock Realtek card to and Intel card only a Bluetooth Devices was present and not the wireless card itself.

I right clicked on the bluetooth in network adapters and installed the driver manually.

XoticPC finally shipped my F1761! I should get it by Thursday at the latest, hopefully it comes sooner.

Extremely excited! Now to make a list of softwares to install and things to do. :D

I'm still a bit skeptical about the color quality of the stock Matte screen, and the track pad..

BTW, on my old ASUS G51, which had a Synaptics trackpad, I installed an updated driver which allowed for various multi touch functionality, like 2 finger scrolling, continue dragging after lifting from the trackpad, etc.. any chance of the same for this model?

Awesome! So I should be able to get the same functionality. Thanks a lot!

Also, do y'all have any tips to keep in mind when doing a fresh OS installation? I've already ordered the Samsung 830 256GB SSD, plan to partition it as 60 (Windows),60 (Ubuntu) and whatever is remaining (programs and games).

Hey! Got my laptop today evening!

Been playing around with it, and I absolutely love it.

SSD is ing amazing, and the Bigfoot N-1102 surprised me completely! What performance!

Also, the screen is really good, MUCH better than my old ASUS G51, so no complaints there!

Two questions ; where is the software to customize the lights for the Steelseries keyboard? Also, is there any software for the S-Bar on the top, to the left and right of the power button? I don't know what all the buttons do, is there any guide or instruction for the same?

Look for the KLM (Keyboard Light Manager) icon in your System Tray (lower right of your screen where the clock is). You may have to click on the little white up arrow to see it.

Just hover on the blue star, and then each of the icons to see what each function does. Or, are you talking about the touch sensitive buttons to the right and left of the Power Button? In that case, look at your quick start guide or your manual...

I've been enjoying my 1761 for nearly 3 weeks now, and it's great!
However, there are 2 things I don't understand:
    1. I have installed the THX Studio Pro, but it doesn't work. When I start it (dbl-click tray icon), it displays this message:
If I select "yes", it displays another message:
    Am I missing something?

    2. I've got the backlit keyboard, and it looks like I could do something with Fn+Numpad+ and Fn+Numpad-, but these combinations just doesn't work. Again, am I missing something?

P.S. To the guy who designed the (backlit) keyboard without status (Num/Caps/Scroll) LEDs - burn in hell, you @#$%^!

Here is a video detailing the disassembling process. It will show you what is needed to get the keyboard off. It is not too hard at all and is the same process you will need to reach the 2nd pair of ram slots - So, this would be a good time to top off on ram if you like.

I know how to remove the top panel and the keyboard itself, but then there's the little cable on the bottom left side, how do I remove that and plug the other one?

My 16F2 has an ES processor.

Haven't heard anyone say that the 1761 can't take ES CPU's.

I see. He's only saying that ES processors are less stable than the OEM/retail ones; which is true. However, not all Engineering Samples are the same.

As long as you research the Qspec of the processor, to confirm that it has no stability problems; there should be no problems with it working without issue.

    Hello,

So, I have a MSI Force 1760 from XoticPC. I'm planning to upgrade the RAM to 16GB, it already has 8GB. As instructed, they've installed the 2 sticks of 4GB in the slots under the keyboard, so I can easily install 2 more sticks of 4GB by opening the back.

I was just wondering, which sticks should I buy? The sticks installed are 1333Mhz ones, so I know I have to get sticks having the same speed, but I'm not sure which brand I should buy. GSkill, Patriot, Crucial, etc etc.

Also, recently, twice while gaming, my laptop just shut down by itself. I booted it up immediately, and when I go into Windows, the temps are around 91-92C. The highest ever recorded by GPU-Z is 97C, and I have a hard time believing that the thermal shut off point is so low. I also have a laptop cooler running below it at all times.. also, XoticPC has applied thermal paste, I believe the MX-2.. so why is this happening? :(

I'm opening up the laptop soon for the RAM installation, so I was planning to clean it at the same time, remove all the dust. Any advice for the same? I don't have any tools, and I have no idea which dust can to buy.. could anyone guide me?

    Many thanks!

There's some motherboard temperature that's reported as "THRM", it's usually a bit higher than the CPU and the laptop shuts down when it hits 100°C.

Anyone have any news on the 16F3 and when it might be released with the 675/680 GPU? Possible release date for consumers? I am looking on assembling a unit soon and I would like to entertain the idea of using the 680M. I've seen some resellers advertising it.

I'm exceptionally happy you posted this. I had been trying to figure out what the difference was between the old 1762 and new 1762.

This new 1762 just won my heart. I'm glad I hadn't ordered the previous version yet.

That's strange, you got the same issue as a guy with a GT60: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/684615-680m-low-combined-score-3dmark11.html

You got a MSI 680M ?? How did you get it ? Also, as you've got a MSI version, you probably need to active the TDE to get full power and I don't think you have this feature with the barebone (I don't but I have 0 issue) - I'd flash either update the drivers to 304.79 as 302.75 have been tweaked by MSI or flash the vBIOS with the MSI QS OV one.

I flashed the overvolted BIOS and did some overclocking yesterday as well.
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Genuine Intel(R) CPU 0 @ 2.40GHz, MS-16F3 score: P6787 3DMarks

Still have the same low combined score though.

From what I've read, the combined test switches loads between GPU's. So, I thought it could be that the low score was because 2920XM's 3000 HD was much weaker than the 4000 HD; and the combined test is switching between the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU.

But when I logged the load, it seemed like the 3000 HD wasn't really being used, even when the 680M's load dipped.

So I checked XTU to see if there was throttling going on, and it turns it was throttled all the way down to 800MHz for some reason during the combined test.

The two dips in the 680M's load match up with the two peaks in throttling.

According to HWMonitor and XTU, the max TDP was 53W, and the max temperature during the test was 76°C; so I don't really know why it throttled.

Throttlestop 5.0 or 4.10 dude ? I had the same issues with my 580m in the past but I'm sure you learnt from this so you're using it now...

Though, someone with his P150EM had exactly the same issue with 2920xm oem and 7970m - could you have access to an Ivy ? I'm sure it will sort out your troubles.

C0% and C1E clicked, and BD PROCHOT and EIST unclicked; C3 and C1 auto demotion are also unclicked.

It's a very different combination than the one that worked for my 2920XM when I had the 16F2.

I'm using the Saltius 1.037V vBIOS.

I was looking at a used MS-16F2-ID1, 937-16F231-004 for sale in another forum, but I'm not in love with the GPU. I decided to contact the computer "builder" company and they informed me that the GPU is not upgradable. Is this true? That just seemed odd to me as I thought the "whitebook" was upgradable.

I'm not familiar with MSI, but seemed like a decent deal. Although if this is true, it would definitely be a deal breaker.

It's MXM 3.0 iirc so it's definitely upgradable. I believe Meaker got a 7970m to work in it before.
