I do not know whether LG had updated the bios during the repairs. However, not a single time they mentioned the bio issue. I may not be correct but I recall my E500 had the latest bios when the problem first appeared.

From the atheros website "Hardware encryption for security provides Advanced Encryption
Standard (AES), Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) and Wired Equivalent
Privacy (WEP) without performance degradation "
This card does not support the WPA and it seems you have to change to another card if you want to use WPA or WPA2

From wikipedia:"TKIP is a ""wrapper"" that goes around the existing WEP encryption. TKIP comprises the same encryption engine and RC4 algorithm defined for WEP. However, the key used for encryption in TKIP is 128 bits long. This solves the first problem of WEP: a too-short key length."

I had to manually connect when my router was set for WPA.(I had to ask vista to resolve the problem[of limited connection],and then I was connected. After I switched the router to WEP,the laptop connected every time.I use a belkin router and an acer laptop.

I would think WPA with TKIP is very much the commonly used now? WAP2 may still be new.

    Heys,

I have the same wlan problem on my LG E500 but i can't seem to find the bios file on the LG site. I only found a BIOS update for Vista but it does not mention the wireless lan issue.
Can anyone post a direct download link or send it to me?

    Thanx

and this is really it? does this mean that all those people who have had their atheros replaced by the service could have just run this BIOS procedure? I read the whole thread, I had been looking for a forum like this for a long time. I was (am) so desperate. I've done all kinds of checkings and updates with no result (whatever except sending the laptop to the service) But wireless connection keeps interrupting.
Now I've tried this BIOS thing but it seems too good to be true. Will see.... Thanks to all in any case for sharing your experience. Will let you know.

hello all. I bought a second hand e500-L and have this same problem - it doesn't recognize any wireless network... actually it doesn't even recognize my adsl ethernet connection, that I use at home with my powerbook... I was desperate but then I found this thread and got some hope... now I would like to know which of these options should I choose:

    Windows Vista
    E500_GM_Vista.zip
    E500_PM8400_Vista.zip
    E500_PM8600_Vista.zip

BIOS Flash procedure in Window_20080307.doc 440K

and is the procedure they suggest the right one?
    I'm in portugal.
Thank you so much in advance for your help.

The network card is overheating. Period! The only solution is replacement to the Intel as described. ...OR, like I am doing now, place your laptop on top of an air purifier to keep it cool!!! No other solution will work. It is not a setting problem. It is overheating.

I have looked for this BIOS update on the LG site and it is not there. I have called LG Canada and they advise it is not there. I have the LG E500-GP02A9 model. I still believe the heat is an issue but would like to try the BIOS flash. Can anyone advise where to get this. [email protected] pstiff @ cogeco.ca
    Thanks.

LG has the worst web sites for drivers. you have no idea which driver is for which . Worst of all, they do not list the version date.
