I have also had problems with this laptop. Same as you other guys. The wireless network just disappeared for no reason. I sent the laptop for service and they replaced the wireless card. After this i have not had any problems. I also installed the latest drivers from this site: http://www.atheros.cz/

Guys, I think I've found an interim solution!
I've downloaded a tool called WlanMonitor from LG's webpage.
If you keep that application opened it seems that the wireless cards doesn't dissapear anymore (at least I've been now more than 10h without the problem).
One interesting thing about that application is that you can see in which state the device is (sleeping, awake, etc). Maybe, as we had guessed the problem relies on keeping the card awake so it doesn't go into off mode.
In any case, seeing some other post it's most prob. a HW problem... Anyways, try for yourself and let me know!
BTW, any of you have any wifi packet logger that works with this card? I cannot use Airodump as it's not supported. -
EDIT: Is it this: http://www.lancomsystems.de/LANtools.22+M57d0acf4f16.0.html -
How do you use it ? Nothing happens when WLANmonitor is open
-
I don't have a direct link coz the page is dynamic. I really don't remember how I found it but it was looking for e500 software...
@JM: you don't need to do anything. Just start the program and click the play icon... it starts logging stuff... after that it looks like it keep the card more stable...
Bec... let me know if you find it... otherwise PM me your email and I'll send it to you. -
do u still have the exe, setup file. I dont think that link is right Xorbin.
-
there was no setup... it's just a bunch of files to be extracted into a directory...
Bec, that's not the correct file... it's an Atheros' SW...
I'll try to send you the file... but it should be at LG's
BTW, confirmed, my device doesn't dissapear anymore if I keep this program in the background -
OK, I tried the WlanMon (thanx pirracas) and I guess it doesn't dissappear now, but it uses CPU like hell. And that's the main problem for me. My conclusion is that Atheros is pure crap. So long.
-
Haha, this is the explanation. Thanks LG for being a tight-arse...
http://www.atheros.com/pt/AR5007AP-G.htm
"With the maturity of 802.11b/g technology, delivering cost effective products becomes increasingly important. Introducing the Atheros AR5007AP-G, the lowest cost single chip 802.11b/g access point and router solution. The AR5007AP-G reduces the total solution cost by 40% compared to previous generation single chip system-on-chip solutions by integrating RBOM components on-chip. With this high level of integration, the AR5007AP-G significantly reduces the total BOM and manufacturing cost of an access point or router product." -
New Atheros drivers MS signed available through MS Update... So far so good (no disconnections)... I'll keep you posted...
-
vista only ?
Im on XP, tried Update through.
Start/Programs/Windows Update -
Not sure whether they're Vista only but it's probable... BTW, they're not available at atheros.cz ... (strange!)
I take advantage to confirm that new drivers work fine. Haven't been disconnected in 6h! Let's hope it's not just my lucky day.
jm, let us know if you find good XP drivers... -

hi, i cant seem to find the wlan monitor software on the site.
could you please email me the files ??
thanks very much appareciated -
Hi!
I've recently bought one LG E500 in Portugal, and unfortunately it have the same problems that i read in your posts.
I tried the recently wirless drivers, and the problem is the same.
I'm very angry with that, I spent many time, chosen the computer, and after all I bought one, that have a problem that nobody knows what to solve it!
Picarras, could you send me by mail the Wlan mon? I Can't find it. -
Not sure if you all have resolved your issues yet but I have had the same issue with one of the E500's that I have sold one of my customers. Look for a program called IP monitor. Remove this program and see if you issue is resolved.

Can anyone tell me if the random suspends and shutdowns when working with this notebook with battery only are related to this wireless issue?
I have an E500-SP23P and when using the battery despite having a massive ammount of battery it suddenly suspends or turns off. I couldn't even get in Windows with 40% battery left which should last me for about 1 hour - wtf?
Is this a windows/bios/ power management issue? Can someone please help?
P.S. The notebook is brand new.
Thanks!! -

Hi guys. How is your wireless problems? My laptop just came from repair and they have changed the antheros wireless device by an intel pro/wireless 3945BG. I will now do some tests to see if the problem is solved. But now i have another question for you, can you tell me (because i don't remember), when you have the laptop connected to the power what is the color of the led with the half-moon? Mine is blue, but shouldn't be that led off? Because that led should be only on when the laptop enters in suspend mode right?
-
Hey Jonasthern, as per the LG Users Guide...
"System On/Off/Suspend lamp
System on standby mode: Blue (Blinking)
System ON: Off"
Mines always on though !!!
Where did you have your laptop repaired ? And how long did it take ? -
For the repair it took about one month and the repair was made in Portugal.
Any questions just ask.
Other people, how is yours suspend light behavior? -
I'm from Portugal, 4 problems in my LG E500:
-> Wireless dissapearing
-> CPU usage goes to 91% suddenly
-> Suspend light allways ON
-> Wireless light colors: Green(ON)/OFF (instead of Light Blue / Blue)
A curious thing about this wireless color thing, when i start my pc, when the "LG Screen" appears the light's colors are normal, after that... it goes green/off.
I'm gonna try to solve my first 2 problems reading your sollutions. If it works i'll say anything. -
Mine NEW E500 is a GP01A9. My frustration with this laptop and LG Canada service provided.
The wireless yellow triangle appears. All connectin is dead. Limited access connectivity. It is too frequent like some within 10 minutes. Only way to get it is back is to turn power off. Soft Reboot won't work.
E500 comes in with Vista home preimium. It is a Atheros AR5007EG wireless. Have the latest driver updated by MS. Driver version 7.4.2.15
My router is netgear running WPA-psk. Two computer conected tothe netgear. Only LG has the wireless problem. The other computer is older model is under XP SP1. (NO PORBLEM)
LG Canada indicated it is Vista problem. Not sure why LG sold their laptops unit with Vista if there is a problem with the Vista software. LG elected to use Atheros AR5007EG as wireles card. LG have other laptops using other wirelss card but without any wireless connection issue. Not sure how LG test their products before manufacturing. Absolutely there is no Quality in design nor problem solving after sale. From reading here, customers are left hang dry.
I had an hour with them. They do not listen the symtoms of the problem. Quickly tell U it is a Vista problem. I found they are irresponsible by telling U the MS 1-800 phone number and wash their hands. couple specific Service people(s) treated U like nothing. I would not buying any LG products in any future myself because of I had such bad service experience.
All the tricks posted I tried all of the following tricks posted on the internet None of them are not working. Death of yellow trainagle keep popping up.
Disabled Ms firewall
Unchecked IPv6,QoS,etc
diabled power saving
reload new driver
delete device and let Vista reload driver.
It is a crap shoot. the wireless just disconnected while typing this post. -
CF7 you have to take your laptop for repair. Mine Atheros wireless card was crap and i toke it for repair and they replaced for a intel card and the problem is solved. That is not a Vista problem because in XP it's the same thing.
-
Thank You Jonasthern.
LG front line service support (one male and one female) do not want me to speak to their supervisor. I was so upset with LG and I did call them back until this week. I manage to contact the Service Manager instead of calling to their Service Call centre. What an LGE Canada experience....
The service manager was nice and told me he is aware of my case. He asked me to send my laptop in in to his attention for investigation and he probably will change the wireless card. I hope they could fix it with a different type of card. Card that works without dropping the connection.
II will provide my experience or return my LG laptop to get different brand if LG still could not fix it. -
I rang the Australian LG line (As I Live in Aus!). I was very firm about the problem and gave the impression I wasn't in the mood for ****.
The guy on the phone was pretty good. He told me I didn't have to send my laptop in, but just the Wireless card. They will ping it for a 24 hour period to test it. Then if it proves faulty they will send another Atheros Card... They will not send back an intel card as the E500s were not Manufactured with them.
So if they keep sending back ****ty atheros cards ill keep sending them back until the warranty is up! In the mean time, If I want to get an Intel card it will be out of my own pocket. Which then in turn will void warranty if the intel card does something to the laptop. -
Why don't they just substitute the wireless card just like in my case? I'm in Portugal and i was very firm in my words and they have picked up the laptop and they changed the antheros for an intel card and now it works perfectly. They have to do the same to you.
-
-
They called me today and said my card was 'definitely' faulty. So they are sending a replacement. Will keep you up to date with that !
-
The Laptop came back. LG had changed the W-LAN card to a Intel/PRO 3945ABG card our E500.
First thing both my wife and myself notice is that the Laptop ran much faster and all components works better together.
There is no yellow triangle of limited connection "so far" (during our one hour use). If it is the Atheros AR5007 card, the problem should surface quickly. Will further report whether the problem had been really fixed with different card in coming week.
LG had initially swapped out Atheros card with another Atheros card. The Atheros card does not work with regardless if it is a brand new card. Changing to a different card is the way to go, in my opinion.
One thing for sure, I am buying another laptop for my sister's birthday soon, I will make sure the laptop does not have a problematic Atheros Card. -
After a day of none stop using the laptop. Rebooted numerous times from Vista updates. The Intel/PRO wireless card works fine and has no yellow triangle of limited connection. Knock on wood. In fact the laptop is not as warm as before on the right side where the palm is resting.
All system is functionaing ok. Even when I have MS firewall "ON" - no problem. Antivirus, and MS Defender on etc.
The wireless network properties - ipv6, qos etc are now just standard setup- I do not have to disable them or to modify the parameters as suggested in some of the expert articles.
I have the power saver is on for this device.
Not sure I could definitely say the Atheros card is contributing all the aggrevations. However, the Intel card does let my wife enjoy laptop computing, of wich the reason I bought her a LG.
I did a search on the web, the AR5007EG is problematic not just in LG laptop but there are reports for all other major brands and good expensive brand too.
Anyone could imagine if the hardware is identified as the problem, it will be massive cost to swap out the card from all the the laptops sold and those are still in the manufacturere inventories by any of the manufacturers. It is easy to wait for a driver that works..may be not.
In conclusion, LG Canada Service Manager had been listening and is willing to provide solution and customer satisfaction for a REAL LG Experience. I hope his front line service staff(2) would learn from their boss on customer service and problem solving. A kudo for him.

I got screwed!
So i waited about 2.5 weeks for my replacement wireless card to arrive. After 3 phone calls in regards to its whereabouts I received a package from LG....
They sent me a screw... A f'n screw. LG australia must be running a clown factory.
I've now been on hold for 20minutes after I asked to speak to a supervisor.
At this point in time, I want nothing to do with LG products. Its a joke when you are paying over 2k(Aus) for a laptop that is not 6months old.
The card is coming from the warehouse just out of Sydney. Im in the city, which is about a 40minute drive away from the LG circus. So why does it take 3 weeks to send me a screw ? In an 'Air Freight' package ???
Yes i'm pi55ed. -
So after a 60min phone call, 50 which was spent on hold, i got no information that helped. I spoke to a guy named Ali, who put me through to Helen, who put me back to Ali, who then finally put me through to his manager Nick. Which is what I asked him to do the first time!
The manager was very unhelpful and very unforgiving. He doesn't know whether my wireless card had been sent or not. He doesn't know whether there are any in Australia. He doesn't know whether any one has put a order in for me. He really doesn't know anything.
After asking to be put through to human resources to make a complaint he gave me a smart arse comment i couldn't make out. I was then put through to front desk, who then put me through to the main menu again which led me nowhere !!!
But that's fine, if thats the way they want to deal with me, they've got another thing coming. I will be taking this much further than it needs to go.
Anyone think my anger is justified or not? Please let me know what you think. -
Well,
I have not have a single problem under constant use since the Atheros card was replaced with a Intel card.
I have to thank Redes to push me to go back to LG to get it done.
May try to to speak to their Marketing or Sales Group.. This is not a good publicity for them. -
I wonder those who posted they fixed their wireless problem without using different brand wireless card could give an update?
-
Guess what..LG has now posted the spec for my computer with an Intel wireless card. they have changed the spec.
-
Hi Everyone,
I think I have the fix for you. I have a new HP Pav. 9727. It had the exact same problem everyone was complaining about here. It had the same wireless card. The problem occurs when the PC does not provide enough power to the wireless card. This is how to fix it:
In Microsoft Vista:
1) Right click on your desktop, select Personalize
2) Click Screen Saver
3) Click change power settings
4) Click change when the computer sleeps
5) Click advanced power settings
6) Scroll down to Wireless adapter settings
7) click power saving mode
8) Change On Battery to Maximum Performance
9) Change Plugged in to Maximum Performance
10) Click Apply
11) Click OK
I hope this works for you as well as it has worked for me. Let me know your results. -
I ended getting a replacement part in Australia. Hasn't skipped a beat since.
If anyone has problems in Australia, I have some good contacts at LG. -
Hi, Jm9383
Which replacement part..Intel or Atheros card?? -
Atheros.
Working fine at the moment. Although I had to go high up in LG get it sorted! -
just found this forum and this thread in the search for a solution to my problems and realise that i am not the only one with that specific problem.
Bought my LG E500-GA234V in November last year and only had it for a month before it crashed, was surfing wireless and i got this bluescreen and it shut down and then died..When trying to start there was a readingerror on the harddrive. Went back to the store who sent it away for a repair, came back 1 month later with a new harddrive.
The problems started right away, got these bluscreens every time the machine was on, different reasons all the time. Don't know if the wireless atheros card was there beacuse i used the cable. Went back to the store and they sent it away a second time for a repair, this time it came back with a new motherboard... BUT with no wireless card to be found, i did a search with the diagnosticprogram siw and it found the atheros card but said it was "disconnected" , the store told me to format and make new partitions and then reinstall vista. Did that and now not even SIW can find the card..??!!
Other strange thing that i have and that i see some others of you had as well is that the CPU is working very hard, stays put at 100 % at all times even if i am doing nothing! However if i put the computer in sleeping mode for only a few seconds and then wake it up the CPU is working normally, but then the mouse is dead and i need to disconnect and then reconnect it and it works fine..??!
Tryed to contact LG for a answer/solution from them but it is obvious they do not want to deal direct with costumers..Even if he admitted that they knew this problem existed he said it only happens to very few machines and had no understanding to why i contacted them instead for the store. He offered to let me repair it again but since the two first repairs was thru the store that should mean repair nr 1 and they have 3 times to try to fix it before even consiering anything else....Since it has already been 2 months in the repairshop during 4 months that do not feel like a great option...
Talked to the store to try the anulle the purchase and give me money back, they will get back to me later today.
Might add that i live in Sweden, i'm sure there is different laws in different countrys for consumerissues. -

You have to use the LG intelligent update first to see the wireless card. Once the driver is installed. Then you could get update from Microsoft.
I do not have blue screen . it should be different issue. Should speak to them to get a new unit. The problem I had was the more you sent to LG for repair. unit came back wit other issues.
My key board was crooked and LCD screen budged from my first repair.
I found repair shops usually have no quality control regardless the factory delivered to you the highest quality product.
jm9383,
It did not work with mine with a new Atheros card. Keep us posted. -
Is there som specific place where i can d/l drivers for the card, if that works how do i then "activate" or "connect" the card again? looked over at atheros homepage but my problem is that i do not know exactly wich card model i have, did not write it up when siw found it, can i get that information somewhere?
Tia,

Just received my brand new LG e500 yesterday. Wireless stopped working after about one hour. I cannot even see it in device manager. I ended up reinstalling the original system, however no change. Spent until the wee hours of the morning working on the problem,
As I am writing this (before the sun rises) the computer identified and installed Atheron AR5007EG driver from the internet. I will see how it goes and let you know. -
Postscript to above. The card has failed several times and completely disappeared from device manager. I have the unit working at this point in time. I think that I will have to go through the LG warranty process as soon as the possible as there does not ppear to be anything that can be done by the end user except waste heaps of time,
-
Just noticed on the lg website http://au.lgservice.com they have a "WLAN connectivity improvement by BIOS flash". I have installed this and the wireless is up and running again and appears in device manager. Not sure whether it will last any distance. Will keep you posted.
-
The bios flash appears to have fixed the problem. My LG e500 with the Atheros card has now worked non flawlessly for two days since I did the BIOS flash upgrade. I would suggest other people try it from http://au.lgservice.com
