How on earth can you guys live without Dolby audio on Windows 10?

Lenovo energy management seems to be working for me on windows 10.
Only thing I had alittle trouble getting to work on windows 10 was Bluetooth.
About the dolby sound, I dont even remember seeing it when I had 8.1. -
I listen to my music through a pair of mid-range over-ear Sennheisers. I agree that music sounds distorted when using Dolby, IF using the integrated speakers. But through headphones without Dolby, it sounds extremely flat, and there is no detail or warmth to the sound whatsoever. I actually had my own custom EQ settings in Dolby, so it is even useful if used purely as an equalizer. -

Anybody able to fix sound cutting out on TV when hooked up with HDMI? This has been happening since day one and it always requires a reboot to get it working again.

I'm thinking of selling my Y510p (need the cash) - which already has great sound quality. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for my X240, which has poor sound quality, even through my headphones. So it will probably benefit from an equalizer that I can customize to my liking, which can work in all apps (e.g. watching YouTube videos on Chrome).
Any recommendations? -
If your laptop has a bad onboard sound card you should be looking at a small USB DAC/amp like the AudioQuest DragonFly v1.2 or Fulla Schiit. Those would be a large improvement over onboard.Last edited: Aug 24, 2015Incontro likes this. -
After upgrading to Windows 10 I recently discovered, that I can't tap with 2 Fingers on the Touchpad to get a rightclick anymore. Clicking with two fingers works, but not tapping, and I can only find the option for clicking in my synaptics driver. But it seems to be a Windows 10 driver, because it has some kind of Cortana function

Does anyone know if we're getting Windows 10 drivers for this laptop? I'm having memory problems, like almost everyone I know has, and I've read it'd due to either a memory leak or un-updated drivers. I know I can just get drivers through the companies websites (i.e. Intel, Realtek, Synaptics) but I haven't had the time lately to go searching for W10 drivers.
Also, is anyone else having issues with the wifi not recognizing a portable hotspot (in my case, my phone) as a connection? It just doesn't even show up anymore on the list. -
This is great, thank you so much!

USB ports still cutting out randomly on windows 10
all "allow this device to shut off in order to save energy" have been unticked in both device manager and devices and printers

USB issue solved.
Spent too much time on the software end trying to find the issue. Turns out it was my keyboard failing aswell as my mouse....Fixed now. -
Is anyone else having the "Plugged in, not charging" issues? I'm down to 17% now and my laptop wont charge.

Just installed a fresh windows 10 install since my previous one was messed up. and my 24gb ssd m.2 caching drive is not showing in explorer anymore. to my knowledge I have installed all necessary drivers.

Go into Computer Management --> Disk Management. Do you see the drive there?

Start looking for a replacement motherboard on ebay. Or start looking for a new laptop.

Use a shielded USB cable (with the de-gausser magnet on the cable). That fixes 90% of the sporadic-disconnect USB issues.

To re-enable Dolby Sound also re-install most recent Windows 8.1 sound drivers for Lenovo Y510p from Lenovo website.Last edited: Nov 6, 2016 -
Just traded my desktop for ironically....the y510p SLI 755m laptop.
I have a few things in mind that I will tackle that I havent seen done for the y510p yet, this is all theory right now since I am just playing with some ideas until I have time to take it apart, order parts and such.
So since its well documented that this laptops biggest problem is throttling due to heat, thats going to be my first project to tackle this time around.
The main goal is to increase the copper pipe count on the CPU to 4 pipes, with 3 being the threshold Im willing to accept. IIRC the CPU heats up almost too fast for my liking the last time I had it, throttling to 600-700mhz for moments at a time making gaming a pain at times. Since fabbing pipes is well outside my expertise, the best method will be to buy 3-4 additional heatsinks and see what I can achieve. Depending on how well this works out, I may pull the trigger on 4910mq / 4930mx later. If I can hold 3.4Ghz 4 cores @ stock voltage then it will be a good sign.
I think 4 pipes will be entirely possible 2 longer, 2 shorter. I may need a new copper plate for the pipes to rest on, and screws would need to be serviceable from the opposite side. The biggest problem is really the Ultrabay 755m, you cant buy heatsinks for it that I have seen, so I will have to see what I can do with that later.
What really peaked my interest this time around was learning of the Opolar notebook cooler, it seems to be the perfect addition for the y510p. If I add more fin density on the heatsink, it would translate to needing more air, which means more RPM's and higher dB. So this would be more of a passing the baton kind of solution. My main focus is cooling on the CPU anyways, while I would love to push the 755m's to their limits the main goal here is prepping for the Ultrabay eGPU that has been devised on techinferno. Then ill take the unused Ultrabay 755m and just save it for a y410p that would take over as my mobile machine. By then the experience from modding the y510p will come in handy for the y410p as I would like to have the GPU's overclocked and the cpu at stock for that machine.
Looks like 2133mhz is the fastest sodimm's available in DDR3, so ill probably get me a 16GB kit later.
I both love and hate this laptop, I hate that it needs mods to get performance out of it, but I love that it needs mods to get more performance out of it. I like modding every laptop I get lol just sometimes wish it wasnt needed as much as the y510p does.
But Reciever, That doesnt sound like a laptop anymore....
Your right, this is more of a mobile workstation project than anything. I need something that is friendly for the airports, which even most ITX machines arent. This can be my desktop that easily makes it through airports. Rest assured though Ill be seeing what I can do on the GPU's while its still mobile, since the ultrabay eGPU isnt a guarantee, he orders the adapters in batches of 20, so its not exactly just going on ebay and buying one when ever I am ready.
Anyways, for the time being I am finishing my BS of IT which is my main priority. Just wanted to get my thoughts out here and see if anyone wants to kick the idea around or be a skeptic until the eventual D-Day
Thanks for reading my wall of text! -

Haven't bothered with the Dolby sound as i never used it. -
Anyone interested in a external gpu for the y510p? Fellow by the name of Gerald is selling them on ebay.
Testing and discussion and whatnot has been going on over on the techinferno forum.
