It is two USB 3.0 ports and one 2.0 port. I can't imagine that would change between different SKUs. I think that is one of the older model numbers, so it should come with the Centrino N-2230 wireless, but you would need to confirm with the place that is selling it.

    The y410p has 1 usb 3.0 port and 2 usb 2.0 ports.

hello everyone, I recently installed a 240GB SSD drive in the main caddy, and I was wondering if I added an M.2 drive, will it be recognized just like any other hard drive or will I have to re install the whole operating system on the M.2?

Right, but that's a completely different laptop rather than a different SKU of the same laptop.

If the OS is installed on the 240GB SSD then adding a M.2. SSD will just become a D drive. That is if you have the connector in your laptop.

Is there a hdd caddy with a bezel out there? I know theres just the caddy but you have to use the optical drive bezel, but I hate the look of it. Also is it possible to raid with the ultrabay drive?

Nvidia control panel > set sli and phys x (make sure sli is enabled in there)

remember every time you update your nvidia drivers you will have to go back and turn on your sli. For some reason SLI shuts itself off after updates.

Nobody actually believes that you have a Y510p with light-up speaker grills, so like I said before pics or it didn't happen. Your rudeness is not very convincing. And don't think we can't see through a little smoke and mirrors and slick stuff in Photoshop.

I am currently using a Macbook Pro 13" Retina for college. Since I miss gaming a lot, I am planning to revert back to an Ideapad. I am considering the Y510p but I have reservations about the screen. A few months ago, I ordered one for my roommate from Amazon and the matte screen looked terrible. The color gamut might have been off or something. Would a glossy display work for me? Is it better than the matte display as far as color reproduction is concerned? Thanks.

    Y510p Ultrabay

    Ultrabay Connectors:

The left connector is a PCI Express 3.0 for the SLI graphics and the connector on the right is SATA for an HDD, optical drive, ect.

To get an internal dvd drive to fit the Ultrabay, first off it has to be 9mm thick and secondly, the most important, are the black clips on the sides of the SATA connector that actually lock the drive in place so it doesn't slide out AND also the tab on the right side, like its shown in the pictures of my 755m ultrabay above. The bezel on the front is just for convenience of taking it out and for cosmetics of the whole laptop.

Very curious, it seems that Lenovo no longer sales the DVD ultrabay for the y500/510p. The y400/410p is still available however. Also as far as I know Lenovo has never sold the Blu-Ray Ultrabay on its own, you had to get it with a laptop. Your best bet is to contact Lenovo directly to see if they have anything in stock. If they don't, then you'll probably have to go back to scouring the internet. I'll let you know if I come across anything.

I've just decided to buy a top-of-the-line external optical drive because I could imagine taking out the SLI ultrabay multiple times over time, probably isn't too good for it or the connectors in the ultrabay. I found the literally the BEST external slim optical drive on the market which is the Samsung SE-506BB/TSBD 6X USB2.0 External Slim Blu-ray Writer Drive (Black), and I read this review to back it up The Best External Blu-ray Drive | The Wirecutter. An external slim blu-ray writer drive. It supports every CD, DVD and BD format. On top of that, it can also read and write triple and quad layer blu-ray disks. When I did research for best brands of aftermarket internal optical drives, Samsung came up multiple times.

Hello, does y510p have the software where I can select fan speed profile? I currently have a Lenovo Z470 and there is a program where I can choose whether to run the fan on Balanced, Silent, High speed and Dust removal via soft buttons.

And also do any of you happen to know where I can buy the ultrabay cooling fan? Tried google and ebay but cant seem to find any. I am planning to get the SLI version but I want to have the option to remove the sli if not gaming for better battery. And if possible I dont want to get the drive.

    Thanks!

There's only a dust removal option for the fan.

I don't think the ultrabay cooling fan is sold anymore. It's pretty much useless since the cpu+gpu heat sink is on the left side of the laptop. The right side of the laptop where the ultrabay is located isn't ever a few degrees hotter than room temperature (this is without sli).

Oh.. So the fan doesn't suck from the right, then blow it on the left side(internally, to cpu+gpu)? I thought that was the design.. Then I wonder what was that design for..

Also, did the gpu change from 750 to 755? All their laptops say 755, but my geforce experience says 750.

the 755m is actually slightly different from the 650m and 750m.

The 750m is an overclocked 650m I think.

    Hey All

This is my first post on here. I'm a graphic designer and recently made the move from the big overpriced Apple (astonishing, I know!) to something with good enough hardware to shred my heavy design work. So now I have a Y510P with the Dual GT750 graphics cards, 16 gigs of ram, and the 1TB hard drive with the 24 gig SSD cache drive. I was looking for more SSD storage so I eventually plan on switching out the stock 2.5" HD with a SSD, but for now I just swapped out the 24 gig cache drive with a 128 gig MyDigitalSSD Super Cache 2. I am looking for the best way to set everything up to get the most performance out this machine. Being relatively new to this I've been reading through this thread trying to piece things together but I figured it would be better to just post a few questions.

I want to set this up to just beast through my design software, rendering graphics quickly, and loading/saving files quickly. My first thoughts were to load the design software and possibly the OS, as well as store the design files on the 128gig SSD. What is the best way to format that drive? And how do I go about doing that?

And is there anything I need to set up with the graphics cards to improve their performance working together?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Guys i need help. my sli 750m is not performing like it used to . I have not installed anything new since yesterday and today im getting like 1/3-1/4 the framerate in all my games. Any ideas? I am using nvidia inspector and it seems like sli is working on some of my games correctly so i do not know what else is causing this slow down. Only thing new i did was take the laptop to school for the first time and i removed the graphics card for better battery life pluged it back in enabled sli like usual and yea thats all.

EDIT. I am an idiot. i put it on power saver thats why.

PhysX will only be useful if the game you are playing does not support SLI. When in use, PhysX will take some CPU load off normally used for physics calculations and offload it to the GPU.

Anyone having trouble with bf3 on sli 750m?, only one 750m is doing all the work with a load of 90+ %, and the second one is only using around 9-11% it won't go any further. So my performance isn't great, I get around 30 fps on ultra. Ps. Other games I try in sli both run evenly.

I play BF4 on low and get around 65-85 average fps. I havent really checked out my gpu temps but i can tell the one on the left side is working harder than the one on the right as the left one pumps out more heat.

One thing i did notice while running intel extreme tuning utility is that my cpu temps are hot when playing bf4. According to the intel utility my cpu has reached a maximum of 99C which is kind of scary. It seems to hover around 87c-93c when playing bf4.

I tried running the game without the intel utility and for some reason i dont think it runs as hot but that could just be me thinking that.

Maybe its the intel utility that makes it run that hot?

if our y510p's get too hot do they shut down on their own before frying something?

Well my temps are around 81-87c but it depends on room temperature too, mine is 23c average. But what happens when I'm playing Bf3 is that left gpu is doing all the work and right gpu almost none.

Interesting. I managed to snatch one up during Christmas time when they were selling the Y510p ultra bay dvd drive. I'm pretty happy with being able to swap out the dvd drive during regular use and then swap in the graphics card for gaming. I don't even use a notebook cooler any more cause the laptop is pretty cool on normal use.

I wanted to get the ultrabay blu-ray drive and was thinking of swapping out the dvd drive in the ultrabay with a blu-ray drive. The only problem is that it's super expensive. The ultrabay itself was 80 bucks and a blu-ray drive at the right size is like 100. So, I think I'll just get an external drive when one's cheap, rather than modding the ultrabay to make an ultrabay blu-ray.

It's sad to see Lenovo mess up the whole ultrabay situation. Probably why the Y50 no longer have ultrabay's....

Go to NVidia control panel and ensure that SLI is enabled

Install MSI afterburner, go to setting -> monitoring -> tick the GPU temp and load and framerate -> at the bottom select On-screen display.

Run BF3/4 and let us know on the GPU load details.

Yeah, sli enabled and using aferburner to keep track of stats ingame.
On bf3, gpu 1 has a load of 90+% but second gpu only goes up to 11% never even reaching 20%. But on other games, sli balanced like 55% each but going up and down.

Anyone seen this before? I was playing a game, and it crashed. Afterwards, my video is showing errors (green and purple pixels). It happens only with the nvidia GPU (the Intel is fine). I don't know how or why, but I'm guessing the GPU is pooched :(

    viderror.jpg

Anything I can do, or is it just a matter of sending the laptop back to get repaired / replaced? This really sucks on a laptop less than 3 months old.

Oh my, those sort of issues normally crop up when you overclock a card(s) too much. Have you done any overclocking? If not then you may have some faulty cards.

No overclocking. My temps have never gone above 80C on that GPU, either. Is there a program out there that can check the various components and tell me what the culprit is?

And it's not the ultrabay GPU. It happens with that GPU removed, and using GPU1 only as well

Hmmm only program I can think of that may help is HWiNFO64. Perhaps GPUZ and Nvidia Inspector could help as well.

Since your computer is only 3 months old I'd try contacting Lenovo to see if they'll ship you out a new laptop.
