Can you please write a model number of this configuration? In my country I'm stuck because i have to choose between GT750 SLI + 1TB/24GB SSD or GT755 SLI/8GB SSHD (found one with 4702QM) and unfortunately all have old 2230 WiFi.

in terms of memory, yes, otherwise it is still the same, with minor clock bumps. :)
try 1500 mhz with 3dmark11( my personal experience, this is tthe most sensitive to unstable memory speed) , and report back ;)

    Hey everyone!

I have been looking around at plenty of laptops for a while trying to make sure I dont have buyers remorse lol. Its been about a year since I have had a gaming potential computer and I am quite frankly itching to get back into the game scene while not trying to break the bank. This model laptop seems to be the winner for that cause. Some questions though...

    1. Is the CPU socketed or soldered? Reason I ask is because I will need to swap out the CPU to the i7 4800mq for the features that come with that CPU. Namely Vt-d and Vt-x will be of great importance to me.

    2. How is the keyboard? I use a mechanical keyboard for almost everything I do with a computer so Im sure I will always have a slight bias to begin with, but I would hoping for two things. Does it feel like a clumsy rubber dome keyboard and are the keys fully plastic or do they have a rubberized feel to them?

    3. Do we have any modifications of the HDD ultrabay to allow for 2 drives yet? Im a modder at heart so I couldnt help but think there should be one for this.

    Thanks in advance everyone!

    1. Socketed, can be upgraded up to the 4930MX. Be aware that if you purchase the laptop from XOTICPC, you can have the laptop configured with 4800, 4900 and 4930 out of the box.

    2. Don't have a mechanical i can't really comment, but it's one of the better laptop keyboards, though i assume it is inferior to being a mechanical since no laptop comes with a mechanical anyways

    3. Just get a standard HDD caddy and then attach the faceplate of the DVD drive to it. Also you can put 2Msata's in one 2.5 inch bay.

The model number is 59405672. Ordered it off Lenovo's website and the country region was set to "Canada - English" (where I live).

Excellent, and though the 4930mx is a fine chip, I wouldnt use it for now as the price/performance isnt there yet. Thanks for letting me know that its sockets though. I just wanted to make sure that when the time comes that I need those features that I can sell the chip I have and upgrade to the 4800mq.

Well yeah, as long as it doesnt feel like a clumsy rubber dome then Im set. Mechanical keyboard is a luxury for while Im at static position, if Im moving around or gaming elsewhere from home then I wouldnt want to keep it with me and kind of defeats the point of having a laptop lol

Do you have any links for the msata's in the 2.5 drive bay? That would make this laptop excellent for virtualization and keep the drive for games and less time consuming tasks. Installing 3-4 virtual servers and 3-4 clients can take a while on a single hdd lol EDIT: Okay I think I found something for that Minerva R2021D?

The HDD would have to house all the virtual machines but it would be incredibly slow..hmm maybe a ssd/hdd like western digitals recently released drive. Though we would need to have more mature products for me to jump on that.

Basically I want to have the SLI function for gaming, so games would need to be installed elsewhere on the machine besides the ultrabay.

Then when Im working virtualization I can pop in the ultrabay caddie since SLI is not needed in the least for these tasks.

Looking at all my options to make a single computer that can effectively handle all my personal and professional needs, again thanks for the info !

EDIT: Is there a Korean region y510p?

EDIT: Seems that there is but its only 1366x768 and single 750m. Bust.

I've been having problems with my wireless. I have the the Intel N 2230 and I've tried a whole bunch of drivers and installing and uninstalling proSet but I haven't been able to keep a stable connection. Anyone have any advice in getting it work properly or is am I going to have to switch out the card or get one of those usb ones?

I have a older modem that I'm trying to connect would replacing that make any difference?

I have power cycled it and strangely enough I haven't had issues since making that post so I'm wary of fooling around with it at the moment.

Before, when I couldn't get a stable connection, I was using the laptop in the family room near several other wireless devices and it was also picking up several of the neighbours wi-fi but now that I've relocated to my office in the basement the connection has been rock solid. There are no other wireless devices down here and it's not showing the neighbours wi-fi signals any more so I think some kind of interference was going on.

Might need to switch to 5Ghz band for the rest of the home, but would likely need to replace the router for that anyways...

Good that your back up and running though

What do you guys think, which of these laptop coolers would be better for the y510p?
    -Cooler Master Notepal U3

    OR

    -Cooler Master Notepal XL?

Anyone who own one of these, how much did it lower the load temp of the ultrabay 750/755 (from the default 95-98 C/203-208F)?

I have the U3, for me dont worth the mony you pay. The people on forums say you can get 10°less, but whit my p510p no. Whit the prime95 working whiout pad im getting 85-87 whit i get 80-83. But i get whit the pad 90 to.... i dont know, i think i gonna return my. Mine get so hot easy, i open the photoshop and the fans star working loud. The internal cooling of this laptop is bad.

The y510p doesnt use traditional cooling designs that would largely benefit from that it seems. Try using them as exhaust fans away from intake areas to remove heat it can as opposed to pushing air into an already hot surface area.

That was the major selling point of the U3 isnt it? moving around fans and also being able to flip them?

Just got this laptop, OS came preinstalled on the HD instead of the SSD for some reason, OS key is apparantly locked down to a bios chip or something.

Someone else musta delt with this, how do you move it over without using another key?

First of all, you should know that the SSD is used for caching, not for installing the OS.

With this said, the OS is not locked in any way, that's because of UEFI+Secure boot, a feature implemented into every new Windows 8 PC. Open the BIOS (power off the laptop and then press the side button) and then set UEFI mode to Legacy Support and Disable Secure Boot and you should be fine to install Windows 7 or Linux (or Hackintosh if you can grab a replacement WiFi).

If you have 1TB HDD / 24GB SSD configuration then the SSD is used only as a cache drive..you cant instal windows on it..clean install of 64bit Win 8 requires 20 GB..you have to first replace it with bigger drive.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 + All the drivers + MS Office + Adobe Fireworks + Firefox/Thunderbird and there is still 5 gigs of space left... you just gotta know how to compact things and optimize for SSD.

The D drive you see at my computer isn't your SSD. You can't see your SSD in there.
At Programs & Features you should see a program called expressCache.

If you run cmd (command prompt) as administrator and type in:
    eccmd.exe -info
You should receive information about your SSD

Ok i have the 7260. Is there something special i need to do to turn on and use the 5Ghz band?

EDIT: Looks like the N-7260 only supports 2.4GHz. The AC_7260 (which Lenovo is not using) supports 5Ghz: https://communities.intel.com/thread/45592

I have the U3 and works well enough for me (I got the U3 for like 20 bucks, and so it's pretty cheap compared to the more expensive coolers). There's no way a cooler can reduce temps by that much, since it's only a fan blowing onto hot surfaces. It does reduce the heat on the bottom of the laptop and by elevating the laptop, you increase air flow into the bottom. Obviously cooling can be a bit better, but I think combining undervolting with a cooler is the best way to lower temperatures on the CPU and GPU...(undervolting not going to affect the GPU temperature in the ultrabay).

I just installed the ultrabay dvd drive (FINALLY got it after looking for it for months), and I have to say the laptop is running a lot cooler....

I"ve bought a Notepal XL, but it almost does nothing with the Ultrabay temp. The temp rises more slowly, but eventaully it still reaches 97C and the gpu starts to throttle...waste of money ...

Funny thing is, the GPU is 97C but the fan does not even run on 100% ...

Hey, without looking through hundreds of pages in this thread, is it possible to install a driver from the nvidia site, because the nvidia recommendation states that I should preferably stick to the Lenovo driver (which is only 327. version).
I still use the windows 8.0.
    thanks in advance

What's a waste of money, the laptop or the cooling pad? :p

Have you tried repasting your Ultrabay yet? It's very easy to do and doesn't void your warranty.

You should always install the latest drivers from the Nvidia website.

    Maybe both :D

I repasted with the paste I've got with my Sager laptop, but it did not do anything, same temps. I try to repaste now with Arctic MX-4, but I doubt it will do anything.

This is my 2nd laptop, I had to return the first one because the 2nd 755M was defective and with this new one maybe it's just me, but it seems as if the ultrabay vga had faster RPM with the previous one under load, with this one the fan only runs on max RPM when I do the dust removal in the Lenovo software.

Oh, thanks for the help with the ssd guys. Your right, i found expresscache and after double taking disk management the ssd indeed appears to only be caching.

Now, i get to go through the process of nuking all the ty lenovo bloatware. Speaking off, why did lenovo make their own "LENOVO" partition with mcafee, one of the worst antivirus available, on it? Any advise for nuking techniques, and which paritions can i get safely get rid of? One of the paritions was a "UFI" parition, which i beleive has somehting to do with the bios, and i figure its not a good idea to touch that, however i am entirely unfamiliar with their setup so any advice would be appreciated.

I much prefer building my own comps but i needed a laptop so thats that

Why not just reinstall Windows 8.1 from scratch? I removed all the partitions etc (there are several recovery partitions, wasted space). Made a system disk 120gb and a Data disk 880gb). And used the SSD for caching with ExpressCache which you can download yourself. No bloatware, no wasted parttions and only the software you want yourself.

In windows 8, you cannot create an iso without entering a product key on whatever computer your creating the iso on.

    This is the problem.

Hey everyone, happy new year. I was considering getting the Y510p from Lenovo, but their paypal option isn't working. I'm now planning to buy from amazon or newegg, but they have the older versions with the 8gb SSD and the 750m GPU. Any idea when, if ever, the newer Y510p with the 24gb SSD and 755m on lenovo's site will be available at other retailers?

Er, no you cant. The key cant be used to create the iso (this is where you enter it on the other computer, on which you are creating a bootable cd/usb/whatever) because it is an oem bios version microsoft doesnt recognize for iso creation. Its getting the iso In the first place. Any tips still appreciated.

    Hey Everyone!

I just purchased the Y510P deal that was on Amazon for $850.

Dual 750s, 6GB RAM, I-5 Processor, 8GB SSD. My laptop will get here tomorrow. The specs were not my ideal want in a laptop (wanted larger SSD with OS on it, I-7 Processor, and 8+GB of ram), but for the price of $850 I went with it.

What is the first things I should do when I receive my laptops? How can i do a clean install and get rid of all the bloatware?

Also, I would like to upgrade the SSD and add some RAM. Is this possible, and any suggestions on what I should get to upgrade?

I just received mine about an hour ago. I have already repasted the SLI GPU, and it was extremely easy.

There really isn't that much bloatware on these machines. I would just uninstall the stuff you don't want and forget about a clean install.

I just received my 510p and I'm having problems with the trackpad. I can't seem to right click or left click. I can only tap and use gestures....

Head over to the touchpad's settings and enable the clicks.

I read hundreds and hundreds of complaints on the trackpad. Mine is perfect, doesn't skip or anything else.

Yeah, touchpad and WiFi are definitely something Lenovo needs to work out for their next release.

I personally have both parts working smooth, but i know this is not the case for all users.
