I know what you mean about the click/jump issue. I experienced that as well. The problem with the pad is that the buttons are part of the pad. So when moving my finger to click, the sensitivity of the pad registers mouse movement at the same time and the mouse jumps. It doesn't seem like a software issue to me, just a design defect. The buttons should not be part of the pad. It'll take some time to get used to i guess. Also, the pad does certain things when scrolling in from the left/right/top (check synaptics properties for what each does). When i'm doing something on the keyboard, my palm can sometimes slightly swipe in from the left on the pad and the open window changes. Thats annoying and may need to be disabled. Happened while I was playing Bioshock a couple times too.

The pad feels cheap to me, but i dont mind it that much. Unfortunately, its the worst pad i've had on a laptop thus far. :S

Awesome, thanks panzer06! I'll try this when i get home.

I think now the prices on the Lenovos website are good. I paid 1300 after tax (California) the high specs ( 16gb ram, SLI, 1TB+24GB ssd, 2 years warranty)

Ok, I installed Windows 7, ran 3DMark several times (SLI enabled, PhysX set to CPU).
First run: no problem, score is good, 20600
Second run: at first test after the girl jumped in the water the cover on the boat started to act like Lara's hair in this video: Tomb Raider - TressFX Hair SLI Bug - YouTube. Score now is only 19700
Third run: same as second run+at second graphics test the background started to flicker really badly at some points

Do you guys have these problems too or my 2nd VGA is faulty and I need to send the laptop back ?

Yes, I bought a 128GB SSD M.2 SSD to serve as the boot drive.

The Tomb Raider thing has been confirmed to be a problem with the games coding, not your GPU.

Yes, I know, I just used it for an example.

But short story: as warmer the 2nd VGA gets, the more graphical glitches I see...seems like symptons of a dying VGA. Fun to get a lemon before Christmas....

No,did not though about it yet, because I don't believe that Lenovo intended the VGA to be undervolted to work properly. :(

Wrote you on Prohardver too, but for those who are not there:

Just underclock memory, to check if it reduces/eliminates flickering.
Memory voltage can not be altered, even if it would be possible, reducing it will just make it even worse, raising memory voltage could help stabilizing it again on that speed.
But increased voltage demand on same speed indicates degradation.

So just try to downclock memory, and see if it helps, but even it will run stable at lower speed, still indicating hardware failure, contact Lenovo, or reseller.
If you are able, try a different ultrabay card in your machine, if that works, then definitely your ultrabay is the source of this.

When I get the Lenovo y510p with SLI I plan to get the Cooler master notepal A200.

I don't do that much gaming. I'll probably use the laptop for lots of Internet, Excel and Movies. Good idea / bad idea?

For $300 difference I can get:
    8GB --> 16GB RAM
    750m & DVD optical --> 755m & 755m Ultrabay SLI

Do you think I should get the SLI and resell it? It's only useful for those who already have the single 755m card, right?

If you don't do a lot of gaming, then the SLI is probably wasted. And if you don't get/need the SLI, there are probably other laptops out there better suited to your needs at a similar price point or less. Eg. the Acer V7-482PG

The extra ram won't make a big difference, and you can always upgrade later. I don't think it would make much sense to get the SLI just to sell it (plus then you have an empty bay to fill anyway).

    Just my opinion

So the answer is yes, you could be more rude :p

And fwiw, my system boots to login screen in 8 seconds or less. That's with the standard 5400 rpm HDD and "fast boot" enabled. Sleep mode would be even faster.

I'm sad, today I turned on my Y510p and played my game Heroes of Newerth just to realize anytime the announcer speaks loud I hear a noise like sound from my left speaker, then I tried other sounds like music on YouTube, etc and yes, the sound is there... like a dirty, noisy sound =( while the right speaker sounds totally clear. I'm afraid it might be a hardware problem, if that's the case I'm fuc ked because I live at Central America, would be really hard to send it back for service... sighs...

    Any chances is another thing?

Hey guys got my y510p yesterday, and I'm having a problem.

I got the 1080p screen (glossy) and for some reason things that I know should be BLUE look PURPLE. For example links in Google look purple.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Hehe, well its like a grainy sound when the sound gets too high, very annoying to be just ignored. The day before was just fine and just yesterday started like that. I dont even moved my laptop still near my bed on a table. If is dirt, how can I clean it?

I heard that also uninstalling and reinstalling sound drivers could do the trick. Where can I find the lastest drivers?

Good idea. First I'm gonna try updating the driver then I'm gonna do that. Is there an auto-calibrate option somewhere in the HD control panel?

As I've investigated this problem more the problem is that some colors are too dark. I'm comparing the y510p screen to a Dell laptop, an ipad and a desktop PC and all of their colors match, and the y510p looks off.

EDIT: OK, so I downloaded the most recent 4600 HD driver from the Intel website and when I tried to install it gave me an error message. Is the driver from the Lenovo page the only one that will work?

Oh, you must be using SLI (hence why the Intel wont work), in that case open the Nvidia Control panel, and go to "adjust desktop color settings".

Mine does disconnect my external mouse on the slightest contact with the USB receiver. Also sometimes gives a "USB device unrecognizable" message also had some problems with some USB memory drives. Main problem is actually that my mouse acts and moves erratically every other 10 min or so and does so also with the external mouse and also with the touchpad :( BTW have a Elan touchpad, not a Synaptics one.

Hey Jobine, I'm not using SLI, I have the DVD drive installed. I got the update Intel 4600 driver working by uninstalling the old driver and installing the new one.

I tried going to the Nvidia control panel as you said, but I don't see "adjust desktop color settings". All I see is a menu for "3D settings" on the left sidebar.

Again about my problem, yesterday my left speaker started to do horrible sounds. I read somewhere that I should try to update audio drivers. So, on the Lenovo drivers page:

    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS035829

The Audio driver version for Realtek Audio Windows 8 (64-bit) is 6.0.1.6923, and my Device Manager says I have 6.2.9200.16384, so I suppose that wont help... What do you suggest me to do? I don't think I can send it to USA for service, I'm at Honduras, Central America (-_-)

On this video, when I touch my sound bar it sounds like a bouncing sound and while the THX test you can hear the grainy noise I mentioned before. The right speaker sounds perfectly.

Oh, and if I connect headphones or the TV there is no sound problem... so looks like its mostly a physical speaker problem I suppose... THIS SUX!! (>_<)

I had a similar problem, though not as bad. I fixed mine with the drivers from lenovo's website, which while it helped, didn't negate the problem completely.

Blowing compressed air into the speakers seems to have fixed it. Not sure if the problem will comeback and I don't recommend doing it. :p
