I am getting the following from Crystal Mark with Toshiba 256 GB FDE 1.8 inch drive. FDE is turned on, and it is running fine in my T400s.

    SEQ 210.4 122.5
    512 193.4 145.8
    4k 15.28 28.68

    FDE is running flawlessly...Phil

    Hi folks,

I wonder weather the drive might be removeable without taking out the converter itself, to prevent the SATA-connector on the main board from getting used.
It doesn't seem to work out-of-the-box, judging by the pictures, but do you believe the converter can be modified (e.g. by cutting the snap tabs)? It might be necessary to fasten the drive another way afterwards.

    So, what´s your opinion?

    Greetings,

    Till

P.S.: I´m not a native english speaker, so forgive any missuse of language that might have occured. =)

I'm not sure that I follow the question. Do you mean using the 1.8" micro-SATA drive without a converter to use the 2.5" SATA connector on the x200? This is not possible.

Some laptops (not the x200 series) are able to use and boot from a PCI-express SSD without using a SATA drive bay.

Or are you simply referring to the ability to remove the 1.8" SSD from the converter while it is still attached to the regular SATA connection on the mainboard. I cannot see what benefit this would provide as I've only removed my SSD from my ThinkPad a handful of times since installing it.

    Thanks for your quick response.
Yes, I was thinking about that second possibility. SATA is specyfied to be plugged in/out appr. 50 times, and I was tinkering with the idea of switching between SSD and "classic" HDD to preserve the SSD.
Anyway, bynow I've put a 2.5'' SSD into my laptop and it works great.

    Thanks anyway.

I didn't see this thread when I was in the hospital but John it certainly is a contribution.

I've looked up the diiference between MHC and slc drives and didn't find that much on SLCs. More is needed.
