    Good catch  !

It's indeed a bit of an oddity; Panelook claims ' Backlight Unit Interface type' is NA since it's ' Included in panel signal interface'. It is a normal WLED screen and if you look at the specification sheet then pins 31 through 40 on the main connector are clearly designated as the usual LED power pins. Yet your sheet also shows the extra, separate connector you tend to find on CCFLs and RGB LED panels. The sheet also states clearly; ' backlight power through the second connector'.

A bit of a search and it turns out they're both correct:

So that second cable is part of the panel itself and won't be an issue.

Something else, just in case; the Samsung is mounted to the lid with screws on the side of the panel, but the TLA2 and TLB2 uses those 'front-facing flaps' you can see in the picture. With newer panels they even lack the side screw positions altogether (slimness), but this one might still have them, possibly tacked behind the thin-metal flap assembly. If so, remove the flaps and you can use the screws. If there's no screw threadings then clip off the flaps and affix the panel to the lid with strips of double-sided tape along the edge. That's also how modern, überanorexic panels are mounted.

@t456, and anyone else—I've got a Dell Precision 7530 with a LG LP156WF6-SPB1 display, which is 6-bit, has a fair bit of ghosting and really isn't bright. Also, I have an old all-in-one Acer at home that has a 19" TN display, that's been overclocked to 100 Hz, and even though it's an 8-year-old TN, it looks stunning.

Ideally, I'd like a replacement display for my Precision that has a very wide colour gamut, and deep colour—HDR/10-bit if possible, but the minimum needs to be 8-bit (because the LP156WF6 is 6-bit, and I can't stand the dithering). I'd also like a high-refresh rate display, as well as IPS/VA. I'm quite dissatisfied with the stock display on the 7530, and hopefully I can spend ~$80-$120 on a new screen that significantly improves quality.

Have you or anyone else got any suggestions?

Yes, but it's a very good TN panel that happens to be better than all the IPS/AHVA panels that are compatible with your system.

A TN panel, better than IPS and AHVA? Hoo, boy. I'll check NotebookCheck out, thanks for the recommendation all the same.

Also, I realised that the Precision 7530 has a 40-pin connector on the board, and a 40-to-30 pin cable that connects to the 30-pin LP156WF6. I suppose that greatly expands my options, now.

Hence, I have also been looking at the AUO B156HAN07 and B156HAN08 panels, both of which are 144 Hz and have < 16 ms response times. They're all apparently used in the GM501, the Aorus X5 v8, and the MSI GS65.

Yeah, that 120Hz TN panel is the fastest (3ms G2G) and widest gamut (rated at 94% NTSC) in 15.6". The 40-pin 144Hz IPS and AHVA panels like the LP156WFG-SPF2 (LGD05C0) and B156HAN07/08 are 8-9ms and 72% NTSC.

    Thanks for the details.

I'm looking at the Display part of the MSI GS63VR review for the Chi Mei 120 Hz TN display, and it looks like it has great response times and colour accuracy, but needless to say the viewing angles are narrow, vertically.

Then for the AUO B156HAN07, there's the Aorus X5 v8 Display section, which mentions the relatively moderate brightness, narrower colour coverage than the N156HHE, but better viewing angles. This appears to be a similar sentiment for the B156HAN07.1 in the Asus GM501, and the B156HAN08 in the MSI GS65.

If only that TN wasn't a TN... I honestly wouldn't mind a TN on a desktop monitor, but on a notebook where the only axis of movement for the display is horizontal (i.e. the hinge axis), a TN is an anathema...

I'd like to see that GS63 in person, though.

The vertical color shift only happens at the extremes, so it's not really an issue.

I upgraded my MSI GT72 2QE from the original CMN N173HGE-E11 (CMN1735) to a N173HHE-G32 120Hz display, had to swap the eDP cable from the 1 lane to the 2 lane cable used in the 4k model of my laptop, but besides that, it was just a basic swap, power on and enjoy 120hz display.

This is a long shot and I joined largely for only this reason. This forum has been a godsend for trying to find a good laptop.

Does anyone know of a 1080p 15 inch screen with 100% sRGB, 80%+ aRGB 400 nitts and 120hz or 144hz display? Or does anyone know if a laptop that has that already?

I'm spoiled by Apple's displays and I'm trying to get back as close to it as possible.

I'm trying to find a matte panel which is compatible with a Samsung NP900X3K. The existing panel is this:

    http://www.panelook.com/LTN133YL01-F01_Samsung_13.3_LCM_parameter_23362.html

I'm looking for FHD or QHD+, and the three panels I've found on panelook which appear to be promising are these:

    http://www.panelook.com/N133HAN04.1_Darwin_13.3_Assembly_parameter_31014.html
    http://www.panelook.com/B133HAK01.1_AUO_13.3_LCM_parameter_31635.html
    http://www.panelook.com/LP133QD1-SPB2_LG Display_13.3_LCM_parameter_30921.html

@t456 @sicily428 Will any of these work? I appreciate any guidance you can provide - I'm a bit out of my depth here.

so you have actually a panel with an eDP (4 Lanes) 3.3V,40 pins interface.

    that N133HAN04.1 uses an eDP (2 Lanes) 3.3V , 30 pins interface

that B133HAK01.1 uses an eDP (2 Lanes) 3.3V, 40 pins interface

that LP133QD1-SPB2 uses an eDP (4 Lanes) 3.3V, 40 pins interface (same interface of your actual panel)

I think both B133HAK01.1 and LP133QD1-SPB2 are plug and play for your system, but wait some guidance from @t456, maybe he knows more details

Yes, the SPB2 and HAK01.1 are technically compatible. SPB2 is preferable; better image (8-bit vs. 6-bit) and it's a non-touch. Do check whether the F01 has its connector on the bottom-right before ordering. Panelook doesn't mention this (the sheet will, though) and if it's on the opposite side then your cable won't reach it.

There's two other possible hiccups. You have to remove the side-flaps that are normally used for mounting the display and there's a good chance you may have to do a little trimming on the inside of the lid. The Samsung uses only tape to attach the lcd and iirc it's embedded flush to the exact size of the display. Not a problem, but the specifications claim the SPB2 is 5mm taller. Could be within margins or it might simply be due to the flaps, but if it isn't then a dremel or some-such would be required.

If you want to re-use the bezel then use hot air to melt/soften the glue prior to removing it. For the sake of thinness there's no simple clips or screws, unfortunately.

So, a replacement 40-pin eDP cable is coming in tomorrow afternoon. I'll be choosing a replacement display, too, shipping in from eBay/TaoBao/AliExpress.

    Once again, the choices are amongst the: Chi Mei N156HHE-GA1 (1080p, 120 Hz 3 ms TN, 30-pin eDP, ARGB 8-bit), LG LP156WFG-SPF2 (1080p, 144 Hz ~ 9 ms IPS, 40-pin eDP, sRGB 8-bit), and the AUO B156HAN07.0 (1080p, 144 Hz ~ 6 ms IPS, 40-pin eDP, sRGB 8-bit). I've currently got an LG LP156WF6 6-bit 1080p 60 Hz display in the notebook.

Thank you so much for your replies.

The connection on the F01 is lower right when viewed from the back - I believe that’s the correct way to look at it?

That should (hopefully) be doable. So that leads me to the next question - does this look about right to you? I’d select the version with right interface:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fre...B2-LP133QD1-SPB3-LP133QD1-SP/32891323958.html

First time ordering from AliExpress, so I’d appreciate an extra set of eyes.

    Yes, so that's good.
Yes, but they do mention 'compatible' and offer both the SPB2 and SPB3. Make sure to send a message and insist on ' SPB2 only' prior to ordering; the SPB3 is every bit identical, except that it's the glossy version and recall you wanted a matte.

Yes, most likely. It's always under ' Schematic Diagrams -> Panel, CRT', page 77 in this instance:

So this system can support dual connectors (many of the SM and EM models do). You can tell them apart by the label on the pcb; 'J_LCD1' for LVDS and 'J_DP1' for the eDP connector.

But remember that Clevo is an ODM, not a laptop brand such as Dell, HP or Apple. They design the system, but it's their customers (like Sager, Eurocom and, previously, Alienware) that decide whether they want their batch to support LVDS, eDP or both (same thing with TPM and the panels). So best option is simply to take a look and make certain; your P170SM may have an eDP port, but another user's may not.
Not really. I prefer used panels since you know you'll get what you ordered, but as long as you send them a message prior to ordering and insist on the exact model then you should be good.

Don't know about the LG (no reviews), but slight preference for the GA1; better colours and can't notice 120 vs 144 Hz anyway. Doesn't really matter though since it's a 30-pin and you ordered a 40-pin cable, so it's either the LG or AUO.

My current display is a 30-pin one, though, so I have the option of going either 30- or 40-pin.

You're the second person to recommend the GA1 despite it being a TN; is it really that good?

    Howdy all,

I am interested in replacing the screen in my Sager NP8157. I currently have the IPS 60Hz monitor and would like to move up to a higher refresh rate. Ideally without giving up too much of the color quality I have with this one.

The Model on the bottom is Clevo P650HS

The current screen is a LG Phillips LP156WF6 (LGD046F) and I was able to overclock it to 63HZ but that's where I seemed to hit the upper limit of its capabilities.

The problem I am having is that I am getting absolutely lost in the number of screens available and I can't seem to locate one that is a confirmed match for this notebook.

Could someone help me locate the best quality replacement screen I can purchase for this upgrade?

This screen is beautiful in its color reproduction and clarity but it just feels slower than I think my tastes are wanting now. An IPS with higher refresh rates would be awesome but a high quality TN model is also fine with me.

I appreciate any help yall can give me going forward,

    Reishi

    Hello!
I'm looking to upgrade the screen of my lenovo u330p. This I my screen today:

    http://www.panelook.com/M133NWN1 R3_IVO_13.3_LCM_overview_20564.html

Is the 4 questions in OP everything I have to look for in the new screen?

    1) Is my panel LVDS or EDP?
    2) How many Pins?
    3) How many Lanes?
    4) What Voltage?

Will any screen that have the same answers to these 4 questions work out of the box?

    This for example:
    http://www.panelook.com/B133HTN01.1_AUO_13.3_LCM_overview_21825.html

One difference from my screen is the outline dim
    306.3 × 195.2 × 3.2 (H×V×D)
    VS
    306.3 × 195.2 × 3 mm (H×V×D)

Sorry about the delay, I had a family issue come up and was unable to check in for a few days.

I still haven't had much luck in the way of finding a replacement display. I'm kinda kicking around the idea of just purchasing an external monitor with a higher refresh and using that for my games.

Is there a less expensive but comparable option to g-sync for nvidia cards?

    your panel is this LP156WF6-SPB1 http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF6-SPB1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_24180.html
do you need a 120hz panel, right?
your actual panel has these details

    X-Rite i1Pro 2
    Maximum: 333 cd/m² Average: 310.4 cd/m²
    Brightness Distribution: 86 %
    Center on Battery: 328 cd/m²
    Contrast: 994:1 (Black: 0.33 cd/m²)
    ΔE Color 4.74 | 0.4-29.43 Ø6.2
    ΔE Greyscale 3.15 | 0.64-98 Ø6.5
    82% sRGB (Argyll 3D) 54% AdobeRGB 1998 (Argyll 3D)
    Gamma: 2.51

you could consider this 120hz AHVA panel

    Hi,

Laptop in Question is Alienware 17 R5 with i7 8750H and GTX1070 (UK)

If I get the 60Hz IPS Panel (17.3" FHD 1920x1080 60Hz Anti-Glare NVIDIA G-SYNC Enabled 300-nits IPS, according to Dell UK site) , Is it possible for me to upgrade this to a 120Hz IPS Panel with G-SYNC later on? 3rd Party Screen? Anyone who has done this?

    Hello,

I just purchased a used (2017) Origin EON17-X also known as (Product number: 775DM3-G). I was wondering if it’s possible to upgrade its screen. I currently have a FHD-IPS 1980 x 1020 G-Sync (30 pin). This model came in 3 display options and I was wondering if I could upgrade to the UHD 3840 x 2160 G-Sync (40 pin) (Part Number-AUO B173ZAN01.0)? I realize the difference in pin size, but was wondering if I could buy the corresponding lcd cable (6-43-P7751-020-N) that attaches to the MOBO and get this to work? In my research I read that a 30 pin EDP connector is 2 lane and a 40 pin EDP connector (UHD) is 4 lane and therefore this modification will not work.
On the contrary, I’ve researched on this forum and found a modification like this was successfully done, but with a different model.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...p870dm-g-from-fhd-to-4k-picture-guide.787821/

This link below has a person that has the same model number as I do but it’s a Sager and successfully did this as well. From my understanding it’s the same computer components (sorry if I’m mistaken)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/installed-4k-auo-screen-in-p775dm3-g-no-g-sync.798479/

Sorry for the crazy rant. My two questions are is this mod possible based on my origin laptop?

Question 2- I’m very limited in my ability to disassemble laptops so I was wondering if there is directory for people(modders)/shops that do these kinds of modifications in Southern California. I tried calling my local repair shops and none of them would attempt this kind of modification.

Since I’m not the original owner of this laptop (eBay purchase) Origin won’t do anything until I give them a sales number. I imagine if they would give me the option to upgrade they would also charge me a ridiculous amount as opposed to buying the parts myself and paying for the upgrade labor somewhere else.

I apologize for such stupid questions, but I am very new to this stuff. Any insight would be helpful.

    Regards!

I want to install a 4K touchscreen on the msi p56 8-RF creator. It’s 1080p nontouch. I’m getting mixed messages if it’s even possible. Is there really a compatibility issue fundamental to the laptop preventing 4K installation, or touchscreen installation?

A bit, though not quite that dramatic, I hope :vboops: . Anyway, we should have made that inquiry after all, then:
There do exist 0.5mm->0.4mm pitch adapters though, they look a bit like this 40 -> 30-pin adapter. Have seen them on ebay before, but there don't seem to be any atm. As simple flat-ribbon adapter will also do.

Apart from that; can you make a good photos of this cable? Of the left part of the connector, the reverse side and the rest ending up at the input side. And check the TLA2's pcb for the #1 and #40 markings; that will tell us what side is data and which is backlight voltage.
