Success reported on upgrading an MSI GT72 2QE to a FHD 120HZ N173HHE-G32 Rev.C display using the 4k 4lanes eDP cable.

Lost brightness control, always at maximum.

Given how MSI has keep using the same eDP cable, this should work in all models(of the GT7x series) up to the GT73VR(those and up already have 120Hz displays from factory).

The link is more or less this topic, I didn't photograph anything, because there are videos on youtube on how to teardown the GT72.

I can take a print if you want.

Could you share some infos about that cable? What ID code? Where did you buy it? What's your feedback for that new panel?

Cable part number: MSI 1781 K1N-3040052-H39

The K1N-3040052-H39 reference is also used to sell 30 pin cables, so always check with the seller that its a 40 pin(they also call it 4K) cable.

This videos can be used has guides on how to separate the display from the rest of the chassis, this is required due to how the eDP cable is routed, this is a necessary step(unfortunatelly):

The display that I got is supposed to be an N173HHE-G32 rev.C, not really sure, its indeed 120Hz, and it works on the first boot, but the colours are a bit strange, I got it from Aliexpress, and it was cheap, so it might be a second rate/quality display, I recommend that anyone doing the swap to buy from reputable sellers.

One thing to keep in mind, brightness control no longer works, display is always at full brightness.

Nvidia control panel/Windows also says that my N173HHE-G32 supports 3D, and I can activate and de-active it.

    Hi,
    I cracked my hp 640 g2 display, model HB140wx1-401.
I found in my country a good price for a similar display, model LTN140KT14-201.

The original was 1366x768, and the one i found is 1600x900. The specifications says both are single lane edp.
Could you please confirm if the second display should work fine on my machine?

Here is a comparing of the two:
    http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=25623,21645

    Thank you!

So I have an ASUS GL702VS with a LP173WF4-SPF3, according to HWInfo. It stock setting is 75Hz and I can overclock it to 100Hz, but I'm afraid that I could damage the screen. What would be a decent upgrade panel option for 120/144 Hz? Supposedly this is a eDP 2 lane 30 pin connector panel and my motherboard has a LVDS 40 pin.

    Can anyone help me?
I'm trying to upgrade my lcd screen, but i've found inconsistency across my laptop. It's a Acer Aspire e5-57478LR. (it's part of Acer Aspire e5-574 series)

    It uses a Innolux N156BGE-E42

    http://www.panelook.com/N156BGE-E42_Innolux_15.6_LCM_overview_24349.html

in the specs it uses eDP signal type but the problem comes in the flat cable

which is a DD0ZRTLC141 and in the specs inform that is a 30pin LVDS 30 pin cable.

So. what can i do with this laptop? i've attached both pictures below:

Its a 1 lane eDP cable, so any display that uses 1 eDP lane with a 30 pin connector can be used.

That more or less limits you to 60hz FHD ones.

What are you pursuing with the upgrade?

    Faster refresh rate?

    Or better colour reproduction?

Originally i am trying to upgrade to a fullhd one, but i'm aware of the lanes in the edp cable. Do you think that i'm able to replace the cable? Or the motherboard will reject it?

1 lane eDP is more than enough for a 60Hz FHD display, no need to change cables, and I'm not sure your mobo even has 2 lane eDP support, so that cable might not even exist.

After sourcing another N173HHE-G32, this time a legit one, brightness controls work perfectly, and the display is gorgeous.

So, if anyone sees this in the future, it works perfectly on the GT72.

I would like to upgrade the screen of a Dell G5 (aka the latest version of the Inspiron 7000 series laptop), so far I have narrowed down the choice a few panels.

    - AUO B156HAN01.1
    - Samsung LTN156HL01 (-101 ? -102? -nothing behind?) I don't know which version to choose
    - BOE NV156FHM-N43
    - LG LP156WF6-SPB1 (seems a little less color accurate, and there are a lot of -XXXX versions that are very different)

But my biggest issue is how to source those panels.

What I want is something shipping from Europe both for taxes and shipping costs, and also, obeviously I don't want to get a compatible panel with low or average gamut.

EDIT: The Chi Mei n156hhe-ga1 (120 Hz wide gamut TN) seems to be a decent option too. Same question applies.

You can buy from Touchandscreen.de, you can get the confirmation from them about the exact screen model you will get by email, I have purchased from them and received the exact model I wanted and not any compatible screen.

Actually, I ended up contacting them on eBay (seller with same store name, same phone, address and everything). The closest they had to my requirement was the N156HCE-EBA at 220cd/m2.

When I checked in their site(not ebay), I have found two of your intended screens available, anyway, their stock availability change often, so you may have to keep on checking the availability.

A touchscreen is a separate device on top of the lcd. This is the same for phones, tablets and (laptop) panels. So if the system does not natively support the digitizer (separate connector) then it won't support touch, even though the lcd in the combined lcd+digitizer would still function fine.

Most configurations use a 'combined' cable; two connectors at the lcd and digitizer end, taped together to facilitate threading through the hinge and then either splitting off again at the mb connector side or using a single 2-in-1 connector. In either option the wires are all electronically separate from one another. Most likely, if the system supports touch, you'd probably still need a different cable since the non-touch cable would be cheaper to manufacture (fewer wires) and it's unlikely the builder didn't safe that extra penny.

I emailed them last week and they only had one IPS wide gamut panel available (the one I mentioned) despite having multiple models listed as in stock.

    Their website even clearly states

I actually managed to get a Samsung LTN156HL01 from dallexpress.com, they also usually ship compatible panels but their only wide gamut IPS panel happens to be the Samsung one.

Installed it the day before and it's visually leagues above the Dell IPS.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5567, my screen is LP156WHU-TPA1. Will these screens work as a replacement: LP156WF6-SPB5 and . It uses a lot more power.
    Comparison: http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=20504,27138,27147,24407

Also if i want to choose a different model as a replacement what specific specifications need to be the same for it to work other than 30pin edp in the rear bottom right?

The EDP cable code is: CN-0CKGJ6-00901, dell part number: DC02002I800

can i replace the cable with a 2 lane cable, if so which cable do i need?

UPDATE1: i'm pretty sure the EDP 1.2 cable (CKGJ6 / DC02002I800 / CN-0CKGJ6-00901) is a 2-lane cable as other variants of the Inspiron 5567 that have 1080p screens share this cable.

If the cable is indeed a 2-lane cable will this screen work?

UPDATE2: I have now installed a 1080p panel, it works perfectly, i didn't have to change the edp cable.

Here is the video tutorial that i used to replace the screen for my Dell Inspiron 15 5567:

Yes, if that cable is indeed 2-lane then any of those three will work.

Power is not much of an issue; the 5567's with a 1080p would also consume this much and these will share the same motherboard. And even there weren't any 1080p variants it'd still be ok, considering the low power requirements of modern led panels; ~5W is equivalent to a single usb port.

Anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the monitor on the MSI GT83VR-6RE? It's a samsung 18.4" @60hz stock or 100hz overclocked, there aren't many 18.4" monitors out there for laptops but i'm curious if it would be possible to upgrade to something with higher resolution such as 1440p.

Until recently that'd be a definite ' no'. Reason being that 18.4" panels were only made with LVDS interface (your Samsung is ubiquitous) and 4k would've required a dual connector, so that wouldn't have been feasible in a laptop. However, Asus has ordered an eDP 18.4" at 2160p specifically for their GX800VH; a BOE NV184QUM-N21.

It's still a somewhat ephemeral upgrade path though. You'd need a system with a 4-lane eDP connector plus, a smaller hurdle, the cable. Some of the DTR Clevos, Alienwares and a few high-end HP models had dual connectors (LVDS+eDP) in order to support additional display configurations. At the time it wouldn't have made sense for the 18.4" models to carry eDP since no such panel existed. However, with a bit of luck they've re-used slightly modified motherboards from the main 17.3" lines. You might also have a stroke of luck if your model was partly designed as a test bench for their GX800 system. Whether it's the Clevos, AWs, HPs or an MSI; the only way to be certain is by checking the motherboard. Even though the model nr. is identical that doesn't have to mean their motherboard is identical as well; one revision may have both connectors, but another might just have the single one.
