I had mine a bit customized, so GenTech had to take it out of the box. I'd guess they wouldn't send a laptop that have visible defects. Good luck with your next one.

Here in Australia there are no online stores like gentech and xotic pc with customizable optionS. Only www.affordablelaptops.com.au and they can't customize anything, they work directly with the wholesaler. I think i'm going to try one more time, but if the third laptop is faulty again i will ask for a refund.

i cannot hold back - I WANT THIS LAPTOP TO BE RELEASED IN GERMANY!
i broke my foot in late february and was supposed to stay in bed for 2 months - decided to order a new laptop to use in bed. I read about the new gtx800 series gpu's and decided to wait till late march when the gs60 was announced. preordered it. arrived in late MAY! send it back cuz of the fan noise. waiting for the p35w v2 to be released since then. I have 4 preorders in different onlineshops because i want a new laptop so bad :/
it didnt arrive in germany AT ALL yet. no german tests, no reviews - not one store has or had it in stock yet. you lucky b*sterds owning one.... drives me mad o_0
just called 2 different shops and they both told me that gigabyte told em that the laptops were supposed to arrive in june in germany. its july by now and they both told me that i'll have to wait AT LEAST 2 more weeks for the german release :(
but i am waiting for a new laptop since march already! gnaaaaaar i'm gettin crazy!

It only works when the computer is off or in standby. It will activate the main LEDs to show you how much battery you have left.

Anyone with the 128GB SSD as boot drive, can you tell me how much space is left over after the OS is installed?

When I first switched the laptop on I had about 67gb left, so a fraction under half. The updates you install when you first boot take it down to about 64gb

vgjfelix, could you please do a new boot time test? Ofc you dont have to make a video on it, but I think the 30secs vs 10-15secs with the GS60 sounds strange.

And big thanks for the videos! Very nice to finally see some reviews of this machine :)

I also have one question for the owners if this fabulous machine. How about the fan spin up? Is it like the Clevo W230ST, where the fan has pretty much only 3 different speed steps from unnoticeable over somewhat annoying to ultra berzerk? Or does it seamlessly go faster and faster? Thanks. :)

I'll try try to do a video on this but to summarise.

When it's idle or doing small tasks it's a low quiet hum. I can't remember if it was ever completely silent.

On a medium task, like rendering a video, it spools up to be audible and when the job is finished it quietens down fairly quickly.

I haven't cranked it up to full yet with a benchmark test but will do soon.

Thanks for the reply. What I meant was, does it have like three or four steps of fan speed that kick in, or is it more smooth and stepless in terms of RPM?

I am asking because it annoys me a lot with my W230ST, that it has those steps, because it is very hard to get it quiet as it would spin the fans up and down most of the times instead of choosing a moderate fan speed.

Quick answer would be it spins up and down the RPM in steps. But I really need to test it properly.

    Hey,
So i read through the thread but didnt see anyone post a medium load heat/fan noise stat.
If someone could check/share their experience of running medium stress type games on heat/fan that would be great.
Im not one to full performance a laptop if it means gaining alot more heat and making it uncomfortable.
    Cheers.

So i received my third replacement today. It still has light bleeding, not as bad as the first laptop but still have some important light bleeding. However, it doesn't bother me a lot like the first one. All ips screens i have had have this issue. So is like playing the lottery.

No any bright dots on the screen either in this one. One thing i've noticed is that the keyboard light with 50% option is barely visible and very weak. However, when selecting 100% the keyboard looks beautiful.

And regarding gigabyte's customer service. At least here in Australia, i can say that is very good. I didn't have to argue or fight for anything. They even apologize several times for all the issues with the laptop.

I've never had a backlight keyboard before and the Gigabyte one has a couple of settings, so this is what it does.

Any comments on the chiclet keys; are they a smooth plastic or textured, almost matte? Also any comment on heat and temps while the nvidia gpu is running?

Hard to say without seeing it in person, but that seems like a normal level of light bleed. Any modern laptop IPS display has some backlight bleed, it's inherent to the technology.

That's pretty disheartening. Am keen on ordering the same model from Affordable Laptops but the build quality of Australian units are poor if this is anything to go by. There don't seem to be any other Aussie buyers to contradict this (at least from trawling Whirlpool forums)

So this issue is related mostly to Australian units...2000$ for a defective laptop...i noticed as well that in this unit the chassis is bended in the middle. Why they send crappy laptops to Australia?

A hot-swapable ODD on a slim laptop is a bonus. On the front, however, is a nuisance:

Hello everyone. I just ordered the laptop from ibuypower for $1519. I'm excited to get my hands on it. Any things to watch out for when i get it. What are some of the pros and cons of the laptop after spending some time with it? Is the build quality complete plastic or aluminium?

No, I was just speculating based on the experiences you've had compared to others on this forum and elsewhere (which honestly is pretty sparse. Not much user experience yet compared to the MSI ghost pro). But I'll let you know if I have the same issues - I've just ordered one.

Last week I canceled my order because I called just after the order was made to Gentech and they said that it would be another week or two before they got more in stock. The main reason I cancelled my order was because the lady also told me that the laptop was going to ship with a Samsung screen instead of the LG that they were originally built with. Any news about this new screen they're shipping with? Think it'll fix the light bleed issues? Or was it like the lady said, due to a lack of stock of the screens. Either way, I wanted some feed back before I pulled the trigger. THANKS!

Great videos. I just had two questions.

    1. Does the laptop feel sturdy and solid. Did you notice any major compromises in the build quality?
    2. I noticed on your channel that you also own the msi gs60 ghost. How do the two laptops stack up? Do you find yourself using the GS60 or the P35w as a daily driver and why?

    Thank You,

    1. I would say the laptop does feel sturdy and solid in most areas. There is that suspect keyboard flex and the laptop does look a little plastic and cheap, although it doesn't feel it. However, it's an exceptional amount of money so I would expect it to be solid and sturdy, but I wouldn't describe it as premium.

    2. I returned the GS60 because it had a faulty screen and got this instead so I can't really comment too much about it other than to say it had jet engine fans all the time which was a huge turn off.

More videos coming so just keep watching and if you want me to do something specific, ask and I'll see what I can do.

Can you post a few pictures of the function buttons at the top? Are there exclusive volume control buttons or are you required to press the function key first. What about screen brightness and other functions at can be toggled on and off?

    Thanks in advance.

You press Fn + (simultaneously) functional button (or spacebar or arrows). The manual available at GIGABYTE has images explaining all the functions.
Pretty much everything is controllable or can be toggled on/off. Better than many laptops I owned before.

However, I am used to having Fn + arrows also mapped to (Home/End, PgUp/PgDn). On this laptop Fn + arrows control media player. I am sure I'll find a utility to remap them.

Thanks!!! That was exactly what I was looking for. I'm sure the new button layout will take some getting used to. I have volume as Fn+up/down and screen brightness as Fn+left/right on my current laptop.

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on this laptop, just waiting to hear back from a sales rep on some terms that I am negotiating.

    @vgjfelix

What is the battery life like under different uses? Is there an option in the BIOS to limit how much it charges when plugged in? i.e. stops charging at 80+% to extend battery life. I constantly had my laptop plugged in and now the battery is at 45% capacity on full charge (I only get about 1.5 hours now). I just found out my laptop had this feature which would have made the battery last a lot longer than it did. It would be good to implement this feature (if the P35W has it) from the get-go.

    Hi all,

I signed up to these forums just because of this thread haha

Egon - I've just ordered one from Affordable Laptops as well, and would be interesting to know how your unit is re: screen bleeding issue. Bit apprehensive now, after Rafael's issues (Hope that gets all fixed).

Affordablelaptops sent me another replacement. This one is better in terms of light bleeding on the screen, but it still have some in the right side of the screen. As this one is better and not bended in the middle i will stay with this one. After 4 different laptops i can say that at least here in Australia the light bleeding must be in 80% of these laptops.

Glad that you got it all worked out from them. I'll see what happens once I get mine - hopefully Gigabyte/affordablelaptops send the unit back to be fixed rather than re-sell the faulty one. The warranty says pick up and return Australia wide - did you have to get it picked up and delivered again each of the 3 times you returned it?

Gigabyte picks up the unit, however as i live in Melbourne i decided to take it myself to the service centre in order to speed up the process and get the replacement quickly. This is my first time buying something from gigabyte and affordablelaptops.com.au and the customer service of both companies is amazing. 4th replacements without even saying anything. They told we will go with this until you are satisfied with the product. Better than any physical store here in Melbourne.
