I am so close to buying this laptop since I was dissapointed by the Y50 screen reports and simply am tired of waiting for the next laptop to only dissapoint on other aspects.

I hear there is flex in this keyboard. Since I will also use it for programming I will be typing a lot. So it is essential for me to have a good and reliable keyboard.

How does this laptop deliver on this aspect?

I know someone posted a youtube video of the keyboard, but I cannot watch any youtube video's right now. I would appreciate a written response. Many thanks!

This laptop has a battery button. I thought I would press it and see what happens:

By the way. I'm aware you might not be interested in guff like this and I'm sure you want me to get onto gaming and benchmarking, but I'm very busy at the moment and only having time to do quick videos. I'm hoping to have more time over the weekend to get stuck in to some more juicy stuff.

Hi vgjfelix, could you please check if you can feel any vibrations on the palm rest area when the fans are on full load or turbo mode? Thanks.

I've just done a video for the fan decibel level and didn't come across any vibrations (well, maybe a very tiny one that I only noticed because you asked me to check).

Thanks VGJFelix. I took the laptop to gigabyte's service centre and they checked for me and they told me that the small vibration is normal in these ultrablade laptops. So i shouldn't be worried about that. I guess now i can finally relax and enjoy this machine.

One last thing, one of the rubber squares on the bottom of the laptop was not touching my desk. So i did what whiteboyshady suggested on the p35g v2 forum. Unscrew all the screws and Rescrew them and that did the trick.

Has someone tried limiting fps with nvidia inspector in order to reduce heat?? Thanks.

I just turn on vertical sync so the frame rate can only max out at 60 FPS.

But 60fps in my opinion are a lot. A game is fairly playable at 40 fps reducing the heat significantly.

I just put down a deposit for the P35Wv2-CF4 model. I'm not sure exactly what the specs are as I received different information from both the supplier and GIGABYTE. If the specs are different than what the supplier told me, then I get to return it for free. I'm confident that I will like this laptop, I just hope that Gigabyte has a more stringent QC department for these models and there won't be a lot of light bleed or flex in the keyboard. Although I'm sure I will get used to it; my current laptop has horrible bright marks on the screen and I've dealt with it for 3 years. With proper care, I'm sure that this one will last much longer.

Delivery was supposed to be 2-3 weeks from purchase date, but since I will be going on vacation at the end of the month, I pushed back my delivery date until the first week of August.

Thanks to everyone who answered questions and gave feedback on the notebooks that they received, which helped me make my decision.

An engineer from the gigabyte's service centre explained to me why is the flex on the keyboard. He told me that because the laptop is so thin the keyboard is just a an aluminum plate which is screwed to the chassis with four screws. However, you can see the flex on the keyboard just in the middle of it, where there aren't any screws and that is why you can see the flex there. He also told me that even if they replace the keyboard i will see an important flex in that area.

It's good to know that it is designed that way in a controlled manner instead of it being a product defect. I'm not a heavy typer so I don't see this being a huge issue for me.

Awesome video VGJFelix! It's weird what happened with Fn+F5. Maybe it only works when you have two or more monitors connected to the laptop?

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

I'm really looking forward to playing around with the laptop myself and figuring out some of it's features.

I played with this a couple of times today using the HDMI port. I could change to the TV screen and back to laptop screen using Fn+F5. However, after pressing Fn+F5 3 times, both the TV and the laptop screen stayed black. I had to disconnect and reconnect the hdmi cable in order to get some picture on the TV. Then, i changed my settings on the screen configuration and i could use both screens again. I think the issue is related to windows and the configuration and not the function key.

For anyone still doubtful toward the idea of the 860M beating the 870M, Sebi97 has shared some results.

After checking the MSI GS60 3k edition it is no longer an option due to the horrible loud fans and the temperature.
Now um unsure which one to get.

    P34G v2
    + No Numpad
+ touchpad isn't "too far" from the center
    + cheaper
    - no mini display port
    - less storage
    - not completly black

    P35W v2
    + better graphics
    + more storage, 2x mSSD, 2x 2,5" Drives
    + black
    - numpad

    I'm looking at a 1488€ P34G v2 with GTX860m 4GB, 16gig ram, mSSD 240GB Crucial M500, 750GB WD Blue, Intel Wireless AC 7260, No OS
    versus a 1750€ P35W v2 with GTX870m 6GB, 16gig ram, mSSSD 240GB Crucial M500 x2, 750GB WD Blue, Intel Wireless AC 7260, No OS
I plan a dual boot setup with Mint and Win8. I would get a the notebook from Schenker so these are the XMG C404 / C504.

I seriously think of getting the P35W v2 just because it is completly black compared to the P34G v2 :(

Why do you consider the numpad to be a minus? Id say its the exact opposite...

I only use the numpad in counterstrike 1.6 / go for my buyscript. I could live without it. Also It makes the rest of the keyboard less centered.

The numpad (while obviously very useful on a laptop) is a little indistinguishable from the rest of the laptop keyboard on this model. I found myself knocking the numlock and up cursor (which sits directly under enter) quite a few times. Also the cursor keys are exactly the same size as the number keys so you don't get that 'tactile' sense of where you are on the keyboard.

In summary: could have been better implemented.

There is a new bios version and a bunch of new drivers in the smart update application. Has anyone tried the new bios? I wonder if is necessary to update or not.

I installed the new BIOS and the new versions of Smart Manager and Smart Update. I can't tell for sure what the difference is in the BIOS. Maybe my boot is a little faster, but I'm not sure. Smart Update now doesn't automatically put itself in the background, but I don't see other differences. Smart Manager has improved the way the Auto Brightness and Keyboard Backlight work. The keyboard backlight dim value seems dimmer, which in my book is an improvement, and the keyboard automatic backlight setting seems to work better. The screen backlight is a huge improvement because the Auto setting now allows you to change the brightness 50% above or below the default; I always thought it was autodimming was unusable because the value the system chose was always too dim.

BIOS flashing always scares me; one wrong step and you'll be sending your computer to the manufacturer! I was letting the flasher do its thing, and returned to a black screen with only the cursor. Then the computer blue screened with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. After it automatically rebooted, nothing was displayed on the screen for about 10 seconds. I got worried and scared until the POST finally displayed.

I have the same issue than you about choosing between the P34G v2 and the P35W v2 :(

But the advantages/disadvantages of the P34G v2 would be:
    + Lighter
    +&- Smaller

    And for the P35:
    + Better graphics
    + Better autonomy
    - heavier

So I really don't know which one to choose…
    What is you opinion ?
I know I know, it depends on what I do with it but that the problem, I would like to do everything: gaming, photoshop, office, travel, etc

And… Arrgggh I just saw on the Gigabyte website that is there is now the P25W v2 and the P25X v2 !!!

What is the difference between the P35W and the P25W? Look exactly the same but the P25W heavier… Am I missing something?

And the P35X v2 looks like a monster! Is there some reviews/feedbacks already out there?

For me it is the P35W v2 / XMG C504 due to the following reasons:
    + 2 x mSata drives Raid 0/1 available
    + optical drive DVD/BR
+ matte black casing (XMG C504 model in Europe)
+ still portable with 2,2 kg
+ 1080p on 15,6" just please my eyes
    + better overall performance

P35w v2 is also $250 more than the p34g v2. If the extra portability of the p34g v2 is helpful to you AT ALL I say go for the p34g v2. 860m also has more overclocking room than 870m so the gap is lessened sonewhat

I would be hesitant to overclock a P34G v2. While the 860M Maxwell chip may have the potential, the thermal design of the P35G seems to be pretty close to the edge at normal clocks. No knock on the machine or the design - it's just a small chassis, so there's not much room for fans and heat sinks.

OC is not an option with the thin design (to me). UC on the other hand would be an option if it would reduce the temperature / noise significantly, while not losing too much of its power.
I don't even play demanding games (DotA2, CS:GO, Insurgency). But I do want power for video editing and vm.

Hey guys, I ordered a MSI GS60, but the order is on back order due to me customizing it from XoticPC, however I don't wanna wait anymore and they said I can exchange the order. I was thinking of the G750 870 or the Gigabyte 870, but I'm concerned about heat, is the Gigabyte P35w v2 870 run as hot as the MSI GS60 870?

Here's why I'm considering it [Gigabyte]

    IPS Display
    Thin Profile
    870m

    Here's why I'm worried

    Temps
    Longevity

Yep but the P35W has a better autonomy right? Because portability without autonomy might be not that useful…

About the overclocking of the 860m maxwell faster than a 870, many people say it's bu*****. Is that really possible?

I found a review of this system, including benchmarks:

    Gigabyte P35W v2 review | ITProPortal.com

    TL;DR
    Good Points
    - Excellent performance
    - Thin and portable for a 15.6in notebook
    - Lots of storage
    - Keen price for the specification

    Bad Points
    - Mediocre screen
    - Merely decent battery life

A "barebones" version of this laptop is now available at CyberpowerPC apparently as the Zeusbook Edge X6 [Cyberpower Page Here]

The main difference here is that the laptop seems to be a matte black with CyberpowerPC branding on the lid rather then Gigabyte branding. As with any other re-seller there are pros and cons vs the other resellers.

Compared to iBuypower: iBuypower only lets you put up to two 256GB mSATAs while CyberpowerPC lets you put in up to a single 1TB mSATA. It doesn't seem like CyberPowerPC provides you with the extra HDD caddy that iBuypower does. All in all it is significantly cheaper to buy it from CyberpowerPC then from iBuypower if you want 500GB of mSATA space. BUT iBuypower provides a 2 year warranty while CyberpowerPC's warranty is only for one year. Also as of right now you only can have 1 mSATA drive on the CyberpowerPC model unless they change their page.

Compared to XoticPC/GentechPC: CyberPowerPC is significantly cheaper then these re-sellers and even cheaper then buying it retail and adding extra RAM/mSATAs yourself, but again you don't get the extra year on the warranty. Also these sites have more customization options then CyberpowerPC as well as things like year long No Dead Pixel Warrantys and re-pasting of the CPU and GPU and coming stock with the blu-ray drive. Also you might(???) get your laptop sooner if you order from these, as neither iBuypower and CyberPowerPC are shipping units out until the end of the month.

Lots of re-seller options for this one notebook Gigabyte seems to be doing well, strange that CyberPowerPC would be trotting this out as their own model though.

The first "real" review is up at German Notebookcheck.com. To sum it up:
    - Slender and light
    - Good design
    - incredible performance
    - very good screen
    - mediocre keyboard
    - hot temps
    - cruel noise

Yikes! 53dB noise and up to 64C Celsius surface temps, that is among the worst if not the worst I've seen and in same class as MSI GSx0, even most clevos are not this noisy.

So I guess I won't retire my W230ST just yet. Even the P34v2 handles heat and noise way better than the P35v2.

I don't buy the noise complaint completely. When doing normal tasks the sound of the fan is very acceptable, as demonstrated in this video I did:

When the fans are on full then yes, it loud but I would assume that when they are like this you are playing games and would be wearing headphones anyway.

I was making a backup of all my games on the secondary mechanical hard drive and i started to hear a clicking sound coming from the hard drive. Is that normal? The sound is like clicking a mouse.

That's what they are saying in the review. Quiet on normal operations, screaming loud while gaming.

    For me that's what's important.

It's interesting that according to the notebookcheck site " The undersized 150-Watt power supply limits the power consumption of MSI's laptop during full load." I wonder if using 150-Watt power supply with P35 would have a similar effect. Notice also that reviewed MSI has Intel Core i7-4700HQ while reviewed P35 has Intel Core i74710HQ (higher clock rate) and double video RAM (more heat and power consumption too). I'd love to see "oranges to oranges" comparison but it's impossible.

I just looked up the proper comparable MSI laptop, here's the link Video RAM is still smaller than on P35W but CPU is the same. Check noise levels (more close to P35) and especially temperatures (yikes!). And still power limiting power supply with MSI.

Do you think the 1 TB Samsung Evo 840 mSATA SSD would work in this laptop? And if it would, would you be able to get two in there? The product page on Gigabyte's site says that it supports up to 2x 512GB mSATA SSD's. Is it a software limit or just the technology at the time didn't have 1 TB mSATA cards?

Having 2 TB in mSATA seems like overkill right now, but in the future (when prices go down) it may be nice.

You have the possibility to use two 2.5" drives. Why mSATA?
But yes it's possible! Why? You can configure Schenkers XMG C504 with two mSATA SSDs (EVOs 500€ each) which is based on the P35W v2.

I have one Samsung 1TB Evo 840 in mSATA slot in P35G here. Works fine.
