If newegg is getting the cf1 model on the 20th... then shouldnt xotic pc at least have the option then too ?

Moreover is there much of a gain from the igpu or is it not that bad of a thing to have the 4710 if you dont plan to OC to much?

You are much more extreme than me, man, but why would we need an iGPU with a GTX 980M 8GB on board? I would think 4710 is just right, maybe the 4810 (but that's not an option). This is my impression from reading what I have on this forum so far.

Maybe this particular chip was produced at higher quantities and ended up being cheaper to use than for example, a mobile CPU with weaker iGPU or without iGPU (if there are any).

There's been no reply yet from Gigabyte over the possibility of a glossy screen option. However I did fire them a question in a previous email to that asking about the eligibility for purchasing additional extended warranty cover as is the case with Apple and other manufacturer's, i.e. as may know you can extend Apple MacBook Pro's to 3 years for an additional fee and Sony previously had the option to pay for another 1 or even 2 years on top of the normal 2 years on certain models for their last laptop offerings before they shut down VAIO production.

Naturally the impressive P35X v3 is still a pricey investment costing close to 2K, so I would gladly pay and feel more confident having 3 or even 4 years warranty cover period instead of the standard 2. There reply was (second sentence):-

    "Dear Star1child,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, product specifications and product appearance may differ by country and region. Please contact local dealers or retailers for the latest product information.

Please note there is no extended warranty service.

This model is scheduled to release in November. You may contact local reseller or distributor for more information about the purchase issue.

    Regards,
    GIGABYTE"

Their first sentence reply was with regard to me asking about the different model variants available of which I believe someone had posted earlier there's the CF1, CF2, CF3, CF4, in which unless mistaken CF1 appears to be the higher spec and CF2 the lower one (unusual order, not CF4 being lowest). Basically just wanted to re-confirm with them in case there was further variants for maybe a glossy screen spec'd version or other feature etc.

The lack of additional warranty is a shame although 2 years is definitely better than 1 at least.

Question; I may have missed it somewhere but does anyone know or have an idea if 'throttling' is not too much of an issue with the P35X v3? I did read earlier that Gigabyte replied to someone questioning them regards the cooling system, in which Gigabyte's replies were brief and not specifically detailed enough. I believe Gigabyte said the P35X v3's cooling system has been improved and expanded to cope with better cooling. I guess we'll all be curious and hesitant until a number of users/gamers test it in real world use. Throttling gives me a headache on my current laptop with some games, it's by no means a proper gaming laptop (which is why I'm considering the P35X) but does at least have i7 core with 12GB RAM and Geforce GT 735M with 2GB dedicated VRAM. Often I have to set it's CPU processor MAX at 89% as there seems to be one threshold flag at times if exceeding 90%; if not set then frame rates can tumble from generally getting around 50 to 70 fps right down to between 5 and 20 fps... Grrrr, Naturally I wouldn't want this to be a major problem on the P35X either.

As flamy mentioned, you can get extended warranty through resellers. Also there are third parties like squaretrade.com

As for the throttling, it looks like with thermal repaste you can bring CPU temps way down: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gigabyte/764645-gigabyte-p35x-v3-owner-s-lounge-57.html#post9828105

And that was with poor quality laptop cooler. Using a good cooler with 220mm fan for example, temps should be even lower.

BTW, does anybody know how to use the GIGABYTE RAID Storm? The product description says you can use 3 mSATA in RAID 0, but how (only have 2 mSATA slots)? Via ODD slot?

I think the 3 mSATA drives depicted on their website must be a typo. Looking at the internal pics there seem to be only two mSATA bays.

Is there any appreciable difference between the P35w and the P35x in terms of temps and noise? If having the 980 does not increase the power draw, fan noise, or heat much, I may just pony up the extra $300 or so and get the P35x.

Does the 3k screen on the P35x use an RGB stripe or does it use a or tile grid?

It runs hot as expected in a thin and light notebook with the fastest GPU available, some throttling noticed but improved with a repaste. I am posting my results in the owners lounge thread.

Did you mean the P35W (with 970M) or the P35X (with 980M)? As I'm due to get the P35W on Tue and I haven't seen any news on it yet.
Assume you mean P35X, i.e. with the 980M.

I am contemplating on getting this or the P35W V2 CF5 with the 870m video card! Is there really a significant difference in both the upgrade to 970m and the cooling system of the V3? Also, should I expect a big difference in price drop once the the V3 comes if I ever go for the V2?

I am just basically planning to use this comp as a light photo editing notebook so I configured mine with 500gb msata ssd and 2tb 5400rpm hdd and 16gb of ram! The IPS display, the 6gb video card and the expandable caddy is a plus for me but I am concerned about the temp problems I have read!

I am coming from an old Alienware M17R1 and I hate how bulky and heavy it is! Also I am sure I will be happy with the IPS display over the display on my old laptop!

Your advice would be much appreciated! :)

Upgrade from 970m to 870m is very significant; cooling on the other hand is just some regular next-iteration improvement. But consider that the 900m series produce much less heat, V3 will definitely be better than V2.

I'm not a electrical retailer and I have no idea how they run things, but I think if they have not already drop the price on V2, then don't expect them to do it any time soon. As for the V3, unless it's a totally disaster product, I don't see a price drop either. In fact, if they selling well, there might even be a price rise like OCUK did to the P35X V3-CF1 (raised by £150 I believe).

If you're not certain, just wait for few more day. My P35X v3 CF2 should arrive this week, and there'll be more site publish reviews (hopefully), there should be enough owner to get a consensus of the laptop.

Thanks a lot for that info man! Only thing I was thinking is that I dont think the work I am doing would really put the video card to it paces or overwork it so I was definitely considering the cheapest option since my config brings me to around $1750 while the 970m will be more expensive by $200-300 with the same config!

Thanks a lot for the info man! Will definitely look out this week and hopefully help me decide! :)

Edit: Any advice on a reseller outside CA that has a good rep and pricing on these?

Only know of xoticpc for now!

Yeah, did you get your P35W? If so, how is it? Hopefully the CPU isn't as hot as P35X but I'm guessing it'll probably be the same give or take.

BTW, where did you get it from?

Hi gbert15, I'm not sure if they're outside CA or if they're actually cheaper (I'm in UK), but I've seen people mention Gentech : GenTech PC - Systems

It looks like they'll allow you to customise a P35G v2, which has a 860m instead, might be a model to consider in general if the graphics card doesn't need to be top-end, or even the P34G if the ODD isn't important. (Apologies if you've already looked at these, couldn't tell if you already knew about them).

Does anyone know if the problem the v2 had with the case being a 'huge fingerprint magnet' is still an issue? I'm wondering whether to get a skin for it - it would likely bother me.

No, it was delayed at the factory due to chip manufacturing issues. So I gave up and swapped to an MSI GS70 instead, it gets here tomorrow. Sorry.

P.s was getting it from scan.co.uk

Just wondered if anyone has a P35w v3 yet? Gigabyte rep on ocuk forum is now suggesting early Dec in UK, I nearly swapped my preorder to msi gs60 yesterday but decided to stick with p35, don't think I can handle the glowing dragon...

    Hi,

    Gentech P35X V3 review :

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F_h3tn3Ek0

    Thierry

    EDIT - 25 Nov :

    P35X V3 and P35W V3 are available on ldlc.fr.

They appear to be in stock. That is quite surprising because "clevo.fr" told me today that the P35W V3 will be available at mid-december, at best.

    EDIT - 26 Nov :
"ldlc.fr" confirmed on 26 Nov that they have models in stock... true or not ?

Problem is shipments were delayed from gigabyte I believe, however gentech pc has guaranteed me that they will have my p35w v3 shipped out to me by dec. 8th so I should have it by the 10th or 11th. It seems to me that the p35x with the 980m just isn't a good match with the current haswell cpu's. It seems like to me the 980m is just too powerful for them and makes them run too hot resulting in throttling so I think the 970m version is the better build. Hopefully when I receive my laptop I can confirm this.

As far as battery life, heat, and noise, logic dictates that the lower screen resolution FHD opposed to 3k, and less power hungry cpu will result in better battery life, less heat, and less noise. At least if you compare it to the p35x v3.

I've been following this forum for over a month while I waited for my P35W V3 to arrive, hoping for news on expected arrival dates.

I am pleased to say that it turned up today. And first impressions are great, doesn't seem to get very hot at all, not that I have really tested it. Played Rome 2 for about 30 minutes and looked great, didn't hear much noise at all, or didn't notice any real heat. I'm not going to be benchmarking it or anything as that's way above my knowledge level.

But I will try and provide some feedback.

Since P35W and P35X has the same i7 model, and the dGPU are not used, the real life battery life should be similar to P35X, which is 4 hrs with normal usage, maybe pushing towards 5 hrs if you turn off the Bluetooth, turn down the brightness, and close all the other programs running on the background.

    Regards

Oh BTW, keyboard is so-so, and it might be a little uneven if you've been open and took off the bottom panel; trackpad is over-sensitive and rest your finger on the left-/right-click button and move the cursor with the other cause it to jump quite frequently, since they are not dedicated buttons.

I realize the gpu wont make a difference in battery life unless your gaming on battery, but they do have different screens and that probably makes a bit of a difference in battery life with the lower resolution.

Not tested the battery life, got it late on yesterday but will ttry it out on battery tonight. Keyboard seemsfseems fine to me. Not used to having the number pad on a laptop though. The mouse pad is alright for occasional use, I always have a mouse as I don't like using the pad very much.

Got my P35w last night, still getting it set up and games loaded from Steam, but really happy with it so far. I've taken DelFang's advice and so far only updated Nvidia drivers (direct from Nvidia) just played Crysis 2 max ed Ultra settings and high res and temps stayed low on everything (guess it's not the most taxing game any more) max CPU 72c, Max GPU 65c. Never noticed the fan noise while playing.
Can anyone recommend a battery tool/app to help with long term battery life?

Got mine on Friday, P35W v3 1080p 8GB, not used it much but seems fine so far. Had some trouble with scaling, fuzzy text at both 96dpi and 120dpi, turned out I had to select the checkbox in the scaling settings that said "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays", which sorted it out.

Anyway, tried Tomb Raider and FC4 on it, ran okay for me at max settings. Tomb Raider inbuilt benchmark getting 36fps minimum, 48fps average, with all settings max, tress fx on, and FXAA. With 4x SSAA it got 20fps min, 28fps avg, 38fps max. Fans got quite loud after a while of playing TR and practically in the Menu of FC4, but nowhere near the Max fan level (turned it on in the Gigabyte settings and wow, it's loud, but thankfully it didn't reach those levels from about 30mins of TR or FC4.

Remember to update Gigabyte Smart Manager btw, mine came with an older version 4.3.2 which had only the three fan settings of old. I kept it on Auto and then Auto Low

The laptop didn't get particularly hot to touch at all while playing, quite warm near the speakers above the keyboard, but nothing like my old Compaq Presario CQ60-320SA which this replaces which once turned itself off from an explosion in Max Payne 2 :D

I know this isn't all that useful with no dBA or temperatures :S

Mousepad is okay, but clicking and dragging without dedicated buttons is annoying and I find myself using two hands for it.

For anyone who is wary of changing to a chicklet keyboard, as I was, this seems quite fine for typing, I'm relieved.

Weight (8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 128GB SSD) is 2.5kg, just to confirm what I've seen everywhere else.

Also, if you're buying it from Scan.co.uk, despite the description not saying so, it DOES have a Mini DisplayPort socket. (and an SD Card Reader). Or at least mine has.

Those aren't super useful anyway unless someone uses the same tool in the same manner (ie distance) on multiple systems.

Sounds interesting though. I wonder how this thing compares to the Clevo P650SE.

    Hey Guys,

I've recently been searching for a laptop for myself for next year and the years to come when I head to University. I've been looking around for a laptop that can handle games, my assignments and general web-browsing. I've really actually liked the sound of the P35W V3, it seems to have decent battery life from what I've heard, around 4+ hours, which is more than that of the 2+ hours on the MSI GS60 which I am also considering. It also has 6gb of Vram on the 970m which is an added extra for a similar price. It's got a subtle look and doesn't seem to be too much on the heavy side.

I was however curious as to the issues involved with the P35W V3. I haven't actually seen any hard solid facts that there are any issues with it, but I have seen comments about them. Some of them are that there are some heating issues with it? Also the wifi is never consistent? The wifi is kind of important to me as I play online games, as well as doing web-browsing more often than not. Are there any other issues with the P35W that I am unaware of? The fan noise doesn't bother me, and I really dont care for trackpads. I'll have a headset and a mouse to try and reduce these issues, if they are present that is. But please let me know. It really does seem like a nice laptop that I could use for a while!

    Cheers,

The heating issues are on the p35x v3. The processor throttles when it hits 90c. However, all the other laptops that have the same cpu cant keep it under 90c either from what ive seen. So they most likely are throttling as well. As far as the temperatures on the p35w v3 no one has posted any yet. Most people are assuming that the temps will be the same as on the p35x because they are similar in all aspects except for the gpu. You know what they say about assumptions.

Oh okay, thanks for clarifying. So is it also an assumption that the wifi has issues? Or is this completely irrelevant?
    Cheers,
