Hi. I just ordered my X3 Plus V3 and i'm super excited to get my hands on it. Has anyone here purchased a spare power adapter for it? anyone find something smaller than the brick it comes with? I'm looking to get one or two extras to keep from having to carry the adapter from place to place. Any thoughts?

As the X3 plus V3 is 150W, the smallest you can find is the razer blade's power adaptor. So far nothing is smaller than that, though they are really pricey. :/

So the razer blade power adapter will work for the X3+ v3?

Aorus X3 plus V1 (V3 should have the same connector size) and MSI Gs60 ghosts uses delta power adaptors and they both use the same charging ports and i had personally tried it myself by using my friend's gs60's adaptor.

Although i haven't try charging from the Razer blade's power adaptor with the Aorus X3, i'd seen threads of people using the msi gs60 and it works. Link to where i found my information from: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/question-150w-slim-replacement-adapter.751308/

    Hope this helps.

I was just curious since I think some review at avforums said they measured 42 dB but thats pretty quiet especially for a gigabyte laptop.

just trying to get some info on the laptop. messaged in the last thread directly about it but no replies. just asking how every one feel about the palm rest fading? is it real bad? am considering this because i cant seem to get a satisfactory p34w ot the box with out issues and the x3 is like £500 more so i have to know if i deem it "worth it"

    thanks

For 7 months, i had no issues and see no sign of the palm rest wearing while some others gets it real bad. Considering the quality should be the same as the x7, i was surprised how bad the wear was for those affected. So as a precautionary measure, I had the palm rest protector (image available on previous previous page). BUT, the keyboard is showing signs of wear and i also had to manually cut the screen protector on each individual key (took 2 days to complete).

I have to admit, for such a high price I expected more from the build quality, but I didnt have a choice considering spec wise, it was the best available option in August last year (which I also stated in the previous page).

@BlueSwift That's too bad. I do want a machine to just use it not baby it beyond the point of treating it with care. I already have to baby my iPhone 6 with a case and screen protector lol. I hope the fix that in the future because I will buy one

Yeap, and currently spec for spec, it is competing with the Razer Blade. Aorus has to do better in their build quality or else people will still prefer paying slightly more (although it only has 1 year warranty as compared to 2 from Aorus) for the better built Razer.

yep id pay more for the razer just out of curiosity of the build etc if im going to spend £1700 may aswell spend £2k but i guess that times not yet since its not valid in the uk if i have a warranty issue and knowing my luck that be the case lol

So I've had it now for a few weeks and here are my thoughts:

    The Good:

    - it looks awesome and its nice and light. Perfect for traveling which I do a lot of and still being able to play anything.
    - the screen is really nice and crisp. Love the colors and sharpness.
    - it's fast and fairly quiet during normal operation. Fans didn't come on hardly at all when browsing or doing normal functions.
    - the machine is fast and has been able to keep up with everything I've used it for (mostly gaming)
    - was simple to add an addition 500gb msata ssd.

    The not so good:

    - the lid is indeed a bit flimsy and creaks when you open and close it.
    - I don't like how the trackpad does not track movement over the buttons. It seems as if it's all one trackpad but unlike the MacBook pro, it doesn't act like a trackpad when you drag over the buttons. That area is only for the clicks which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Also im still fiddling with the configuration but the movement is a bit erratic and jittery.
    - the computer goes to sleep when you close the lid a little more than half way. You should be able to close it most of the way and it stays on like the mbp.

The power brick I don't mind so much. I bought a razer power brick which works and is good size to take on the road.

All in all I'm happy with it and glad I bought it.

Hey guys, I just installed Samsung 850EVO msata ssd 1TB in the 3rd msata slot on my X3PlusV3 (the other 2 msata ssd/slots are in RAID 0 configuration). I then booted laptop up and checked for this new disk drive. I'm not seeing it under My Computer, but I do see it in Device Manager -> Disk Drives. Do any of you know the proper configuration settings to enable this new disk drive? Thanks.

Hello X3+ v3 owners! I am currently trying to decide on a new laptop for college and this one is a prime contender. I was wondering if the build quality/materials or screen quality (the build, not the picture) had improved over the 2014 x3? I will be using this laptop every day, mostly for school work, I'm going to be majoring in Computer Science, and gaming occasionally when I find the time. The keyboard and track pad is definitely a prime concern for me as I will not be plugging in an external keyboad and using the track pad 90% of the time. The laptop will be constantly moving in and out of my backpack so it needs to withstand everyday usage. Could anyone (preferebly a college student) report if there has been changes or how your experience has been so far?

I would have messaged someone directly, but I could not find the option, maybe I'm just an idiot lol.

Back with Aorus yet again, picked up an X3 Plus V3 open box with Newegg for $1800, deal was too good to pass up. Between this, an HP Omen for $1300 (they offered me another $100 off so $1200 to keep) and an Alienware 13 ($1350), this one was pricier, but superior in specs. The 2015 Blade is really what I was wanting, as I've owned more Razer systems than any other (from the very first Blade). This is my fourth Aorus actually, as I had the 765m Aorus, the 870m x3, and the 970m Aorus Pro. This one is my favorite so far.

While I liked the x7 Pro the throttling CPU was infuriating. Have yet to have been able to get this one to throttle while gaming, so that may be a good sign. Forget how thin the bezels are on the sides, much like an XPS 13, and the battery life surpasses the HP Omen.

Will miss the Omen's outstanding build quality and design, a really gorgeous and light 15" laptop, but had battery issues and the 860m is no where near the 970m on this little guy.

Was curious if you guys would like to exchange video game graphics configurations for different games? Trying to find the sweet spot to see if keep the 3k resolution is possible in some instances.

So you reckon the thin kid is ok? At the moment I got an RMA on my p34w. They will check it out once returned but the email States they will exchange for another one if in stock which they do and if not refund. If they exchange and that's bad too they Prob refund me. If they do. I'll Prob buy the x3. But the only thing besides price I don't like is the palm rest wearing out. What you think of that since you've owned 4?

never had any noticeable palm west wear before. the keyboard keys get ruined pretty fast though. I wash my hand with soap and water before handling the keys and wipe them down delicately, but they will get stained i'm sure. I like the glass sticker for the trackpad, makes it more responsive in my opinion.

I have the V3 and so far I love it.

Only minor such as the screen lid max open angle or that is goes into sleep if you close it to 40° whitch is not great.

The sound could be much better. The speackers are descent, but Aorus comes with no drivers such as Dolby, AKG, or Dynaudio, but can be managed. When so, the sound is lovely.

The touchpad is great. The keybord a little bit less but good enough. I think it wwill not be affected ill wear quickly, but the symbols will remains as they are built in transparently and not stickers.

Idle CPU temp is about 40-50°C, so that a re-thermal pasting is likely to provide a decent improvement here.

The laptop is idle when doing any classic multimedia use.
The fan gets going on and off every few minutes on slow mode when downloading on Steam (room temp about 18-20 °C).
Haven't played games yet but the max fan speed is really noisy (you can try it from the command & control feature). Howerver what is the conditions to get the fans that high? Surely trying to play max out on 3K.

My CPU fan does have a little weird noise as if on top of the air flow noise there is a clicking noise from the vent (sort of a tac-tac-tac as if the fan is hitting slightly something...) not a high volume or frequency but consistent in slow mode. Coud not hear it is other modes. As anyone noticed it?

Overall, very happy! Every laptop has its pros and cons, but so far, this one has great pros, and a few cons I will happily deal with :)

All replies sounds all good. If I do get one. I will be on an Xbox pad so those that did wear the palm rest is because they gamed for long periods everyday with their wrists exposed to the surface.

The main thing I dislike is its resale value. No one seems to sell above £1k. That's£700 loss if I stuck with p34w then it be around £300.

The thing with the Aorus series is, I am really worried about the build quality. I would have bought it if I was sure without a doubt it would be worth the money. But the youtube video of screen flashing when tapping the lid, popping out screen bezels gave me a really bad feeling about these laptops. They do look great though.

How are the experiences regarding these issues on this forum?

Screen hinges too stiff; creates creaking noises when moving and requires 2 hands to open.

Keyboard and palm rest wear. They easily show signs of wear early on in its life and I used wraps to cover the palm rest and cut squares for each individual key on the keyboard to protect them.

Touchpad. Difficult to travel with dirty fingers. Used a matt protector so as to obtain a smoother touchpad travel and feel.

That is all from me in regards to build quality issues.

So, how is fan noise in idle or low performance mode? Can the fan speeds be customised all the way down to 0 rmp? Just bought the MSI GS70 and for some strange reason, MSI decided to use a fan with 3000 rpm minimum. So instead of something like running with 1500 rpm constantly, it goes back and forth between 0 and 3xxx rpm which is quite frustrating in an open office environment.

Hi there folks. Long time no read. I wanted to undertake a repasting of the GPU/CPU on my X3+. Any tips on how to go about this on this specific laptop (starting with the weird star-shaped screws!).

    Regarding repasting - WOW!

I managed to find some torx (T6) screwdrivers and repaste using Coolermaster E2 gold paste. My CPU has dropped by over 15C and GPU temps have dropped by 10C. Amazing difference. I've ordered IC Diamond, which I will use to repaste again tomorrow.

Anyone know the thickness of the stock thermal pads (0.5mm/1mm/1.5mm)? Think I might replace all of them with Fujipoly extreme variants if I attempt a repaste. Then again, I will have to wait till the 2 year warranty runs out before I try anything -_-

Hey all, Igot the aorus with 870M and 1440p screen, love it but the storage option was 256 gb only. I am new to upgrading laptops and would like to put in a 500gb ssd for some other games I need on the laptop, can anyone direct me to a good price ssd ? I've tried looking for a model but am never sure about which one will work.

Also, do I have to do anything in the bios settings for the laptop to recognize it ?

    Thanks a lot

What material did you use for the wrist rest pads and keys ? I clean it once a week and it has survived until now but if it looks good with what you put on it I might do the same

Hello, I've uploaded a photo of it on page 10 in this thread (21st March 2015). The matt protector u see on the spacebar is what i used for the entire keyboard. Took me one whole day to cut and paste. :p

Tbh why I didnt want to reply is because I have not done it (though I am willing to once windows 10 is officially launched and removing raid 0 as well) due to the warranty sticker that prevents me from opening up the bottom panel and I will have no choice but to ask the service centre to do it for me if i really wanted to. So yeah, this post gave no answers or solutions to your question. Sorry. :(

I was thinking on getting the Aorus X3 (without the "Plus", i.e. 13.3inch screen) due to significant savings over the "Plus" version.

I searched a lot, but could not find a specific review of the 13.3inch screen. Can anyone throw some light on the model/type/performance of the 13.3inch 2560 x 1440 panel on the X3?

I am particularly interested in knowing outdoor viewability, matte/glossy, brightness, viewing angles (IPS/TN/IGZO).....

Also, how bad is the performance/power efficiency of the GTX870M vs the GTX965M?

Finally, am I correct in assuming that the 13.3inch will not have the hinge breaking issue as the 13.9inch has due to the availability of extra bezel space which would have been used for strengthening the mechanism.

I also wanted to know if Matrix RAID (i.e. RAID 0+1) is supported to simultaneously create an array of RAID 0 and RAID 1.

Any help from an owner would be highly appreciated.

If anyone's interested here are the thicknesses of the thermal pads Aorus uses around the CPU/GPU (but not the CPU/GPU themselves obviously):

    http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=28186528&postcount=17
    Hi mrpetrov,

We have received diagrams from HQ regarding the thermal pads and paste/grease used, but unfortunately it is confidential and we are not allowed to post it.

From re-reading you specific question, I can tell you that we use 4 types and thicknesses of thermal pads:

    1. 1.25mm
    2. 0.2mm
    3. 0.75mm
    4. 1.0mm

From examining the diagrams closely, all we can ascertain is all of the above thickness of pads are used at various points throughout the system, so its not just one thickness on all chips,,,

Hope that helps is someway, and not confused the issue !

    Regards,

I bought this notebook from Overclockers after returning the same model to Amazon with a strange error. The 970M was listed in the devices and nVidia control panel, but the frame rates were terrible.

This new model seems fine, Dying Light plays at 60-70 FPS (nVidia Experience optimised).

On another question, I thought I read somewhere that aside from the 2 x 256 SSD's in RAID 1, there is an empty bay in the system. Does anyone know if this is true? I could do with installing a 1TB drive for my photography.

Aorus x3 owners: How much battery life do you get with just web browsing continuously on wifi?

Hi there I would say about 6 to 7 hours light work or light web browsing. With the right settings. Like fan on passive, cpu max at 99%, IGPU on maximum battery life, reduced resolution and lower screen brightness. Also undervolting the cpu helps some. This is for the x3 plus with Nvidia 870m. Am presuming the newer model would do better.

How about just battery saver maybe screen 30% but no reduced resolution and normal web browsing?

How much more battery does a macbook pro get under the same usage conditions? (assuming you have one because of your name)

I have the same specs as MacNoteBook and the last i've got was 5hrs but it includes playing youtube videos and word documents as well.

And i've also limited my cpu speed to 2.0ghz using throttlestop as i believe there would not be a need to go higher speeds on lightloads.

Hi there, I usually set brightness at either the lowest of second lowest level. Also the 6 hrs to 7 hrs is with light browsing, which consist mostly of reading text. Not watching videos of playing back flash.

I don't have a MacBook Pro. But I can get about 7hrs to 8hrs on a 11" MacBook Air that is rated for 5hrs. I am a really frugal user when it comes to battery life.

Also for me I do notice that dropping the resolution improves battery life some what, but it might just be placebo effect. I usually run my system at 1600x900.

After installing the new msata SSD, I went over to Disk Management to access setting. You will find it under Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools, and click on "Create and format hard disk partitions". Right-click on the new drive and activate Partition. This would allocate a primary partition on the new drive (now "D" drive). The existing "C" drive would remain as is.

Definitely does not improve battery life except possibly while gaming since theoretically you are running a lower resolution so it renders less and therefore uses less GPU. But the difference would be negligible.

Good that you brought that up!

Was wondering does it require more resources to load say a web page at 3800x1800 vs 1600x900?

Do certain websites load slower for QHD plus vs 1600x900? What determines the render resolution of said webpages?

I do feel that scrolling(browser) is noticeable smoother on 1600x900 compared to 3800x1800 when Intel power saving feature on(set to maximum battery life). Why is that?

Hey LVNeptune, sorry if this has been asked before:
How does the quality of build on the Aorus X3 compare itself to the quality of build on your (old) Razer Blade?
What made you pick the Aorus over the Blade? If the internals and extensibility were the same between both the Blade and the Aorus, which would've you picked?
