I cant see them recalling every single Aero 15 laptop, as i understand there are a lot of satisfied customers out there even with some of the buggy key combinations. The guy that mentioned previously with the keyboard recalling also did not specify a date so i reckon we see if this will even happen. (Would be absolute PR nightmare if it does)
You still got your Aero 15? Thoughts on it so far?
-
the only problem I had was some lightbleed at bottom which is annoying apart from that
there are some delays sometimes randomly
the laptop shut down full randomly but I think that was due to too much underclocking
overall I like it, like the fans they stop pretty fast and keep quiet most of the time
the screen I read a lot of people are calling it crap tbh its quite a nice screen
if my laptop did not have bleed and the sound quality was better than I would love this laptop
personally I think they will recall laptops and replace them all for whoever has an issueRon101 likes this. -

I mainly use the AERO for work but i did some full hd gaming on weekends as well without any problems whatsoever.
Overall i am very happy and do not have issues with the keyboard (at least none that affect my work - mainly MS office and video editing). perhaps the most difficult thing to get used is the shifted 0 key in the numpad but again it is a matter of habit.
Back light bleed is also not a problem. I find the screen great.
My main complaints/ concerns are:
- inability to charge devices through usb 3 when pc is turned off. this is a real bummer especially for travelling. On my old samsung i could just plug the phone in the bag and let it charge silently.
- battery life: i am not saying it is bad. but i get the feeling it could do much more especially when using it with low brightness and no apps using dGPU. i get the feeling it idles in a higher consumption level than other PCs. don't know if there is any program to analyse this.
- i am annoyed by the thunderbolt speed issue reported by others. Although not using it atm this was one major driver for paying the extra cost of AERO having in mind future proofing it for external GPUs. I monitor the thread and hope Gigabyte rolls out a fix.
these are my 5 cents to the topic -
Hey Guys, feelings with the Aero 15 are very mixed, but going to hold onto it until something else comes out.
I am absolute shocked by the bloatware and how it effects this machine out of the box. When will manufactures learn?!? Its 2017...
I am going to do a format and clean install asap.
Please could someone who has gone through this let me know what gigabyte software is recommend to keep on the machine for normal functioning? It would really be appreciated. -
Hello guys,
I'm thinking of buying the aero 15. But before making a decision I'd like to hear your opinions.
1. What are the current issues going on?
2. Would you recommend the laptop regardless of the issues?
I'd really appreciate your valuable feedbacks.
TIA. -
It seems mine has the same, but it is not consistent (happens every now and then) - almost sounds like a old hard drive clicking when they had been dropped, however you can hear it changing tempo when the fans increase. Anyone else had the same issue? -
I mention all this in the hopes it might actually help you relax. Despite the keyboard issue, the fact is this model still has a combination of positive attributes that are not easily found elsewhere. If you want the combination of strong battery life + ability to game + good all rounder with one of the smaller sizes for this size screen & power, I'm not sure there actually are any better choices for you.
So not to be flip, but my best recommendation for you is to relax and enjoy. You've got a flexible, capable laptop which will doubtless be the envy of many of your classmates. Even if you were to spend a bunch of time researching alternatives and then trading it for another laptop, you'd in all likelihood just be trading in for a new issue to be disappointed about. I am not an expert in the specific programs you mentioned but I bet you will be able to find ways to assign keys or make macros that work for you and the Aero's challenged keyboard. -
Got some bad/good news for the people waiting on the 4k version, i just got off the phone with them and they are postponing it till early November due to the keyboard issue,They are re building the keyboard for the 4k model which is making it delayed. But at least the keyboard issue will be 100% fixed.
Now i am not sure if i should continue with the aero 15 purchase or just go the XPS 15 route.Last edited: Aug 21, 2017 -

hey all,
After booting the aero 15 up for the first time it wouldn't launch windows, and only entered bios settings.
after attempting to do the system recovery with f9, nothing would happen and it would go to the same bios settings it launched to.
the f9 key does work however it seems that it doesn't work in launching system recovery on this model.
i have been told by the supplier that it is likely to have a corrupted windows file somewhere.
in the bios settings there is a 'OS Type Setting Options;
with restore win7 defaults and restore win8.1/10 defaults but neither of these work.
i have done the force shutdowns and restarts while holding f9 but to no avail.
would anyone have any ideas in moving forward with this problem?
i have contacted gigabyte and they are in the process of getting a replacement sorted.
should i just wait or is this an easy fix?
cheers
josh
also i've seen other comment about it not having the x-rite pantone sticker on the display. mine did so not sure if that means anything at all.

and i found this, but not sure how to use it or find the pdf explanation.
GIGABYTE Recovery Fix Tool If you already do windows update to build 15063 show up in but can’t execute F9 recovery, we strongly recommend applying following patch after updating to build 15063. Then you can use F9 recovery function without problem in the future. (Note : you can refer " GIGABYTE Recovery Fix tool pdf" Explanation.)
Version :20170607
OS : Windows 10 64bit

Edit: i downloaded the driver and found the pdf in there. however this only fixes a laptop that is already configured... im now definitely not sure how to go about thisLast edited: Aug 22, 2017 -
PLEASE HELP
Hello everyone, I am having one major problem with my Aero 15 and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.
The issue is linked to the number "1" button on the NUMBER PAD to the right. This button is fully bugged on my device. When I press it, it only registers on the screen properly (as a number "1") around 20% of the time... for the rest it will input a strange combination of letters and symbols. I think I may have toggled with the number "1" key in the gigabyte fusion app a few months ago but have since deleted all macro inputs and restored it to default. Perhaps it didn't reset properly. HAS ANYONE had this issue and found a fix for it?!?! Extremely annoying at the moment. Below I will strike the number 1 button 5 times to show what comes out! I have read quite a few people talking about recalls for such problems, can anyone tell me how this will work?

^^^ this was the result... not even one "1" -
from while I'm in school and was REALLY holding out for a refined aero 15 [2x m.2, GPU, and battery looked so good].
I'm going to have to 'settle' for the XPS 15, I'm sure it'll be fine. Fingers crossed I'll buy an amazing 9th or 10th gen aero15 in 2019 >.< -

I did purchase the 1080p one will let everyone know how it is with screen bleed and I'm going to test ALL my keys ASAP. -

After some equivocating from different members of the customer service team over at Gigabyte, I think I've found the definitive answer courtesy of a member of their sales team:
-As previously mentioned, the 4k model will ship with an updated keyboard designed to fix all the key combination issues. I didn't think to ask whether or not key stiffness or responsiveness were addressed in the redesigned keyboard, but I doubt it due to the subjective nature of those issues.
-The keyboard replacement option is now available to customers with the 1080p Aero 15. I didn't think to ask about when the 1080p models will begin to be produced with the updated keyboards from the factory.
-If you purchased your Aero 15 within the last 30 days, Gigabyte will cover shipping charges in both directions. If you purchased the Aero 15 more than 30 days ago, you will need to pay to ship it to Gigabyte's repair facility. In both cases, the service of replacing the keyboard will obviously be free of charge.
-They still "recommend" using the Fusion software for macros in order to get around the key combination issues on 1080p Aero 15's. I speculate that because they still tout this as a viable alternative to the new keyboard, they won't be issuing any sort of official recall for the product. Customers will have to reach out on an individual basis in order to take advantage of the keyboard replacement program.Morningkill, e1evenz1n and p0izn like this. -
Hi guys,
By any chance, does anyone live in SanFrancisco / Bay Area? Can't find this laptop in physical stores, so may be you could show me yours. I would by you a coffee.
Choosing between xps15 and this one.
@Dannya951 , thanks for the updateI wonder how long it will take to change the kbd.
Could someone tell what is the latest status of software solution for the kbd issue? It was hard to follow the progress on that. What combinations still do not work?
Thanks -
I am in the process of returning my Aero 15 back to HIDevolution , I have received a RMA from them. My problem was that there was a VERY small dent on the top panel of the unit. Also the "D" didn't seem to register as intended unless depressed all the way. Shipping the unit back tomorrow. I am contemplating maybe just waiting for the 4k unit since it takes 4 days for the unit to ship back, 7 business days for them to customize my laptop, another 4 days for it return back to me. And then if the new unit hasn't been updated with the new keyboard, that's another 10 days+ in transit. I assume the 4k variant will have released by the time I get the 1080p aero 15 back.
Edit: Figured out when the key has problems registering, it occurs when the key isn't pressed on the center. Which I don't really pay attention to, every other key registers just fine when pressed from the upper left or any other direction, but not the D key.
I typed a sentence with each word beginning with d, it registered 6/10 of the words.
On a side note, Hidevolution has been nothing but accommodating and cordial through out this whole process. I was expecting to meet some resistance regarding this but there was none whatsoever. I imagined they would perhaps argue that the dent was caused after I received the product but no such thing took place. My sales advisor was Ted and I can personally recommend him. I have heard great things about Donald from the company too. I am first time customer but will defer to Hidevolution for future purchases if they carry my desired product. Thank you Hidevolution, thank you Ted!Last edited: Aug 23, 2017 -

Same here, waiting for far too long
I'm just curious about autonomy with a 4K display. -

Did I miss some rumours about a 1070 version? I'd buy that in a heartbeat

Check this out
Bleeding like mf -
Above all I can spot a VVS here :S
More seriously, I think there is really a general issue with backlight bleed on the Aero 15.
Quite many people reported and posted pics of their moderate to severe backlight bleed while the few people claiming that they have no backlight bleed didn't post any pic to prove it so it's hard to believe that there are really some very good units in this regard.Last edited: Aug 23, 2017 -
@lebellium, I wouldn't agree on that. Very small percent of real users report about such issues here and on other similar forums. And I guess even smaller amount will go there and report about devices w/o bleed. The rest are using the device even not knowing or considering this as minor defect they can live with. Speaking in terms of statistics, the sample you are seeing here is not Representative.
More you read such threads more you believe almost all units are defective - some psychology here. Read this thread many times and you will believe even stronger.
Do not let your perfectionism grow into paranoia. Modern devices are so complicated and I believe almost all have some h/w issues. I often remember myself buying HTC HD2 : ) There was literally no device in the city that could pass the checklist of h/w defects.
All of this above is a personal opinion, no trolling or offence.
Sorry for my English,
Regards,

Has anyone found a way to bypass holding the "fn" key to change brightness and volume? Finding it very annoying to have to use either both hands or stretch one hand across the keyboard just to turn the volume up! Please help
-
@Dinzy, i'm not sure about Aero15, but usually F-keys behavior can be setup in BIOS.

Mine Will be here in about a week. Will post when it arrives, specifically about keyboard function and screen issues/ backlight bleed
-
I'm wondering if I'd be able to replace the screen afterward maybe with 4K glossy from laptopscreen.com when those screens are available so that I dont have to wait until Nov. As of now, no screen available at laptoscreen.com though

tbh i think all these laptop have issues exacty in that area...mine is like that on one side only...they have difenatly taken a shortcut -
hello
i just received my aero 15.
there was some difficulty initally where i plugged my laptop to the charger and hit the power button. nothing happened.
after what it seemed like the laptop was sufficiently charged, i pressed the power button and the laptop turned on.
i am stuck in a loop where the laptop boots into the aptio setup utility. i try to discard changes and reset.
i am spamming the f9 key in order to get to the recovery menu but it is not working. the f-keys dont seem to work all the time.
there have been posts elsewhere saying to go to the "boot" in aptio and select "launch csm" but i do not see that option.
does anyone know a way that i can boot up my laptop so i may be able to use it? -
@bertbertbert , that's weird..
Who was the retailer?
Please keep us posted. -
i purchased the laptop from newegg.
i got on another call with a gigabyte representative.
walked me through the BIOS and found out that the hard drive is unable to be detected, thus unable to boot windows (SATA configuration menu).
i have to send it in for a replacement. one thing i also noticed was that the brown shipping box the laptop came in didnt have any plastic air bags or styrofoam for shock absorption.
edit:
they mentioned opening the bottom of the laptop but advised me to send in for a replacement just in case something doesnt go as plannedLast edited: Aug 25, 2017 -

Does anyone know if there is any changelog on the bios releases? Yesterday i got another one but i have no clue what has (or hasnt) changed...
thanks a lot -
Began to attack them in advance : https://i.imgur.com/CqVSzsG.png
I think phone calls can be more effective.
Going to buy the Aero, but have no much time to replace the kbd -

It's a bit irritating...
BTW, I noticed the new BIOS FB08 / F007 in Smart Update. When I click on it I have the downloading popup which runs until 100% but then it closes and nothing happen. The BIOS install process doesn't start.
I can find the downloaded bios.zip file in C:\Program Files\Smart Update\temp but it's password protected grrr
I have Smart Update v3.6.6 -
-
Nevermind, after rebooting the PC I was able to flash the new BIOS.
As a previous Dell user I've been used to know the BIOS changelogs for 7 years.
Gigabyte laptops are rather meant for power users than the general public so it's all the more weird that they don't provide any changelog...
Did anyone get the "switch to profile when application launched" option work in Gigabyte Fusion? -
Guys anyone had any luck with linux and the hybrid GPU? The bbswitch with nvidia is really breaking my balls.

I expect to hear back from him this week, so I'll keep you posted.p0izn likes this.
