I didn't have this problem. Was connected to a 3440x1440 display via HDMI from the onboard 1060 and also from an eGPU (with 1080) via the eGPU displayport.
Edit: I did see weird CPU usage a few time from Windows 10 Telematics, but that was a general issue.

Just got my Aero 15 yesterday and finally got the time to open it today, my thoughts so far,
1: The screen is abysmal for me. I was watching some videos.(All video clips were at 1080p)Probably has to do with the fact that every other device I use is over 1080P, my rotating laptops are the old 13" alien ware Oled and a 2016 macbook. (Can someone else confirm if they feel the screen resolution is terrible too, I'm wondering if it's just placebo :S )
2: As far as the keyboard is concerned, the ghosting isn't a deal breaker for me but the shift in key placement to accommodate the full num pad is very annoying. I think this has been reiterated multiple times but the ghosting issue is still prevalent despite the firmware updates. If you're like me and use other laptops too, you'll have to get used to typing between the aero 15 key placement and 'normal' key placement. Not a huge deal but I noticed I had to correct a lot of my typing.
3:Not sure if you can adjust it through the settings but its very annoying how the laptop falls asleep when you tilt the screen to around 50-ish degree. This is very annoying to me, I have attached an image what that angle looks like.
4:Track pad is garbage like everyone else here has mentioned. Its usable but we should expect better at this price point.
I only had a couple hours to use it currently but everything considered, I think the aero 15 is still a great laptop and am happy with my purchase. I will edit my post as I get more time to tinker with it, hopefully over the weekend. I saw a couple comment criticizing the build of the aero 15, I can't speak for the "sturdiness" of the laptop the feel is amazing. I would recommend waiting for the 4k variant if you don't need a laptop right away. I imagine a lot of issues on the aero 15 will have been fixed by the time it releases. Also that 4k screen might be worth considering, especially if you're more used devices with higher resolutions.
I purchased mine from Hidevolution and service has been absolutely phenomenal so far. I also just noticed that there is an extremely small "dent" on the top of my laptop. I cannot stress how tiny and minuscule it is, but after looking at it from different angles, trying to feel for the cavity of it and asking a couple of my friends to confirm it for me, there is indeed a dent in it. Now as little as it is, as you may have noticed from my sentence earlier, I'm very OCD when it comes to things like that, especially when its new as it is. Unfortunately I cannot "un-see" it and takes away from my enjoyment of the laptop. It probably isn't worth warranting a replacement but should I decide to ask for their support, I will this post for their after sales service. The back light bleed on mine seems to be average so I'm afraid the replacement will probably have a much worse bleed.
I have attached pictures of the backlight bleed and the angle at which the laptop is kicked into sleep. The photos for the back light bleed have been taken from about 25 inches away while is the room is illuminated, there is also natural light in the room. The BLB is not nearly as noticeable AS it is in the pictures.Attached Files:

My ultrabook has a QHD display. I find it too high a resolution for a 13.3" screen. Just personal preference, but I think 1080p is a nice spot for 13-14" notebooks that have gaming in mind. It's a tough call at 15" as it's not only a bigger screen where lower resolution is more easily noticed, but there's also generally more room to cram in better GPUs. -
tbh you backlight bleed is just like how iv seen most on the gigabyte laptops i think its a batch and we got them....id be annoyed if the next batch was better..btu be happy if it was worse lol -
Hello, does someone have some information about the last bios update FB07 ?
Otherwise, I have got the green one (in french). I bought it principaly for MAO and it do the job very well. Nothing to declare. For me, some remarks I read here are only details. -
Ah the continuance of the GenTech PC saga continues Ladies and Gentleman. Trying to get my refund completed and GenTech only sends back $2,012.12 of my $2,366.49 order. When I asked him why stated there was a 10% fee for the restocking, and that they don't refund shipping. Stated I was shipped a defective device and that I had to pay $65 to ship their device back to them and would at least like that and got this response in regards to my defective screen.
RobonHood,
Like I said and sent you the photos on another unit of Aero 15W's screen and other brands screen. They are backlight not defective.
How can you say that you see the LED backlight lights up the screen a defective product?
It's only defective if the screen doesn't light up.
Ken
I'll say it again folks, avoid GenTech PC like the plague their customer service is trash and they steal your money.
For reference in case you weren't aware of the issue preceding this is what my bleed looked like and why I returned my device.
Hopefully someone won't make the same mistake I did. -

Can anyone give a rough estimate or maybe have heard something about the 1440p or 4k version of the 15 coming out soon?
I know it said Q3 but is it early Q3 or late Q3.
,Thanks.
Edit- found this on youtube.Last edited: Aug 17, 2017 -
Full HD display is the right choice for gamers when associated to this GPU.
There are only 2 options if you want to satisfy both targets: either making a unique version with a QHD/4K display and a GTX 1070/1080 which would probably be risky in a 1.9mm thin case (heat and noise).
Or making 2 versions with a GTX 1060: FHD (gamers) and QHD/4K (pros).
Gigabyte chose the latter, which I think is the right decision.
It's just strange that they advertise so much on the display quality instead of doing that only for the future 4K version.Last edited: Aug 17, 2017 -
Holy F**K! WHAT?! I thought the 4k was just supposed to change the display used :0
The ETA is October apparently. Man I have this nagging feeling that the 4k variant is going to be everything the FHD one could have been. I wonder what the battery life for the 4k variant will look like.
@Denjin so the thunderbolt 3 is achieving the speed promised? -

how much will the new 4k version be...
i spent around 1900 on my gigabyte aero which is powerful enough
if not that much price differce will return and get that one -
New aero 15 SKU popped up on Newegg.ca
I've been checking constantly hoping for news on the 4k before I have to make a decision for school.
Is this just Newegg mucking around with SKUs by adding a 2nd 512gb M.2 drive? Hardware refresh on the current model?
Listed model:
GIGABYTE Aero 15W-BK5P vs the original Aero 15W-BK4

Your posts have been super helpful btw!! I'm holding out hope for a functional hardware refresh/4k, or I'll have to go with another laptop :/ paper specs made this laptop perfect for me. -

Okay, not sure if this is the right place for this stuff but I'm kind of hopeless atm.
I could go on and tell the entire story but I'll keep it short since it isn't really relevant to the point of my post.
I bought this laptop from a US site, my dad who travels regularly took it with him from the US to my home country (The Netherlands). My college starts in less than a week and I've been bugging my mind with this laptop for over a month.
I really like a lot of it but only found out yesterday that it has some problems, mostly the keyboard LSHIFT, LCTRL & LALT problems and stuff like that.
On one hand I really want to keep it, since most of the laptop works just fine I think, and I did (not enough apparently) research before choosing this laptop as ideal. Sending it back will be a load of stress and waiting since it would have to be sent back to the US and most sellers are really stubborn in offering refunds/replacement units + shipping costs.
But on the other hand, I spent almost 2k on this machine, which is A LOT for a student, and I really want it to perfectly fit my needs for that amount of money. No one wants to pay loads of cash for a not 100% working product. I'll be using loads of Photoshop, InDesign and other Adobe products and I think I'll have to use loads of keyboard shortcuts aswell. I am no heavy user of shortcuts atm so I could learn to do all of them with right SHIFT, right CTRL and right ALT, but I'm not really sure what shortcuts I'll be using the most. I'm really lost in what to do with my laptop, and it might sound extreme, but I lowkey stress about this decision all day long for the past week. If someone on here could reason why I should keep it or send it back I'd highly appreciate it.
I can't live like this lol -
Does anyone know the screw size I need to get to add another SSD? Where could I get one? Thanks

I recently bought the the Cooler Master NotePal U3 Plus for a cooling station and it seems to bring my temps down a little minus 5 to 10 degrees on just browsing the web listening to music. 39 GPU 44 CPU degrees C
http://imgur.com/a/GAes3
For gaming and Virtual Reality played Robo Recall for an hour and then turned on PUBG while I had Robo Recall going to get the GPU maxed out and was getting good temps. 76 GPU 80 CPU degrees Celsius
http://imgur.com/a/PkNuJ
I live in Canada, Ontario so my temps don't really get that high from the weather. I don't have air conditioning just the windows open and it's 30 degrees Celsius outside which would be 86 degrees Fahrenheit. I also have a stock laptop with no added thermal paste bought from Canada Computers and they price matched the deal on Newegg so I didn't have to wait for shipping.
I like the Cooler Master U3 because there is 3 movable fans and I placed them all at the back of the laptop where the air intake is to optimize cooling. The only issue I have with the cooler so far is that it is on a high angle and isn't adjustable so the laptop isn't as secure as I'd like it to be. Although the cooler does come with a strap to secure the laptop, it seems like a hassle to put on and take it off constantly. The cooler is also powered via USB so I just plug it into the laptop charger. Lastly, the fans on the cooler are fairly quiet on max speed and can be adjusted to a slower, more quiet setting via control on the power chord.
I also picked up the Tomtoc Sleeve Recommended by @scrod which fits very nicely at 15-15.4 inch model and I got a Filson Padded Computer Bag in Otter Green for maximum protection/style. The Filson bag has a Lifetime warranty on it and is very reputable company that makes outstanding gear.Last edited: Aug 18, 2017 -
Well after looking at a bunch of comments on YouTube that that have responded to , they have said the 4K version would come out in June, then no later than July , then Q3, and then by the end of August. Sooooo let's hope we get that version soon! They said it would also be a newegg first so I'll be sure to keep checking on there!

Why is my SSD so slow? I have the liteon SSD which is supposed to be NVMe, yet I'm getting incredibly slow speeds. -
US version is SATA. I believe they are both liteon drives

That doesn't explain how I'm getting ridiculously slow 4k speeds.

Changed some power options, and lo and behold my speeds are much better. Standard windows laptop power settings are complete trash for regular use.

Can you guys confirm if the "D" key is working just fine for the laptop? The problem for me just seems to be the "D" key as far as I can tell. I have to depress the key all way, if I don't it has problems registering. I realized I had a lot of typos where the d was missing(no pun intended).

Note that screws are rather bad quality. While moving the original SSD to the secondary compartment and putting the Samsung 960 Evo into the primary comparment, I broke the screw (probably tightened it a bit too hard). Fortunately I had another similar screw for replacement.Last edited: Aug 19, 2017Jajuca likes this. -
Hey guys. Great thread. I just took a chance on an openbox aero 15. Picked it up for around 1500. Confirmed with Newegg I have 30 day return policy, and Gigabyte has confirmed it will honor the 2 year warranty. I'm hoping it's not a lemon!

Wow, I got mine for around 1900. That's a real steal, here's to (hopefully) like new condition!

In all honesty how is the 1080p panel? Is it crisp? I was going to wait for the 4K version but I need something before school starts, is the 1080p a good 1080p? Thanks!

I was also considering this. However, from a gamer perspective, the reason I decided not to wait was that there is no way you're going to be able to game at anything even close to 60FPS in 4k resolution with 1060. Even in the event that the 4k model up's its GPU to game at 4k (minimum of 1080, but more like a 1080ti), it would see a price increase of at least a thousand dollars or more if I was to guess. However, in theory, you could use the thunderbolt to run an eGPU. Just some food for thought, or at least, what I thought -
-
Well I don't think I'll be gaming besides csgo on it I have a. Desktop rig with a ultra wide setup and 1080ti, I just need the laptop for a on the go editing laptop but I'll be editing red scarlet footage mainly.

Soooo you 're gonna buy a 4K laptop so that you can downscale to 1080p and play games.
Keep in mind that many people complained software they used didn't scale well in 4K.Last edited by a moderator: Aug 21, 2017 -
Mainly going to be editing/photo work with it on the go, i have a desktop for gaming and stuff , but a little cs go would be chill.
-
Sure, best of both worlds. Professional stuff and other things that work well in 4k, use 4k. Stuff that doesn't, down res to 1080p or use an external 1080p display . And if they fix the TB3 implementation you can use an eGPU with a GTX1080 to drive the 4k internal display for gaming.

Hi all, new user here. Just bought the Aero 15 and I'm quite happy with it aside from a (different) keyboard issue that I haven't seen reported anywhere. If I place any amount of pressure on certain parts of the laptop (left of trackpad, or underneath on the left hand side) the keyboard cuts out and reconnects a moment later.
I'm sending it back to Gigabyte, hopefully to just be replaced with a new unit, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has seen the same issue? -

someone in the thread said gigabyte are recalling all laptops anyway
