It's the one I've been recommending to college students too :)

The 1050ti is a big drop down from the 1060/1070...

Better to wait for a good selection of reviews before buying, as usual...

Bought a Razer Blade 14" 2017 the other day and am thinking of returning it since it sounds like a jet engine on load.

Looking into either the Gigabyte Aero 14 or 15. Noise level on the 15 is most definitely going to be better than the other two, but I keep reading about the lid hinge problem. Is it quite prevalent? Anyone else with this issue on NBR?

Not sure what you mean about the lid hinge problem but if you mean the lid closes once the lid is about at inch from the keyboard then i think that's not really a problem to be honest well not for me anyways.

It's not a problem, is just different. The lid is quite heavy, so it can't stay open when it hits a certain angle.

    Hey Everyone,
I am university student and a game enthusiast, so playing games is a part in me that I cannot change. anyways I am bit of dilemma of buying the aero 15. I am only concerned about the keyboard issue bcoz what I can see is that even after the update some key combinations aren't working and me being a developer often concerns me. also no further update regarding the keyboard since then (Correct me if I am wrong) concerns me even more (Will they even update : /). What should I do? Should I buy it and wait for the possible update to rectify the keyboard or any other recommendations? (slim and at least 1060 + battery). Thanks in advance/

Well you could buy it and use it with an external keyboard until they fix it but otherwise you'll have to shop elsewhere.

Hi guys, I've just created this account to get into this thread and @iunlock cpu and gpu tests one. Too excited about his upcoming review. Also OWNorDISOWN youtube channel replied me saying it would make an undervolting and overcloking video on the aero 15!! Hope this are good news for you all.

I would also like to ask you about the laptop. I have recently bought it here in Spain and bought at the same time a stick of 16gb of ram and a samsung 960 evo ssd and would like to know any advice on the instalation. I suposse the ram is just plug and play and same with the ssd, but just wanted to know the perfect way to make a clean windows install on the new ssd and get rid of the rest, just to get a new aero 15 working blazing fast!! Altough do i have to instal any drivers for the new ssd or ram? Or it would just recognise it. Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't see the this as a problem. Mine closes itself also when it is about 10 degrees open. So what?
If it is that far, I want to close it anyway. No issue in my point of view.

    @Paras_MTL
Well I am pretty annoyed that the keyboard issue is not completely resolved.
    But they are making progress.
After last update "only" these combinations are not working on mine:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...15-owners-lounge.804575/page-59#post-10555888

Others listing these missing combinations (starting with uberdev post, which I haven't tested. Most of the other missing keys mentioned above are solved since fusion 1.18)
    http://forum.gigabyte.us/post/7692/thread

If you need some of those - three options:
    1. External keyboard
    2. Combinations with RALT+RCTRL+RSHIFT+anykey are working - it's left side only unfortunately.
    3. Choose another one.

What I am most upset about is, that there is probably only one guy at Gigabyte, programming this keyboard ********, who is responsible for making a perfect matching laptop, well pretty less perfect. And nothing is happening immediately. (well they react quite quickly but don't do a complete fix at once)

I have no other issues. It's a working horse doing things most lovely. It's quite and long time working on easy tasks but gets serious strong when it's needed. (pretty loud either when GPU is >90% usage, but that is OK for me as it is the only time. Otherwise it is super silent)
It's a wonderful tool and I am still pretty sure Gigabyte finally realize now, that they got to move quickly to get this "tiny" defect out of this world.

Anyone have temperatures of the laptop after running Unigine Valley for 10 minutes? Regular, undervolted, TurboBoost, etc.

Hi everyone, I wanted ask If there is a solution for intial lag when using touchpad with precision drivers. From what I was able to google out, It seems to be problem with deadzone values which I don't know where to find in regedit. It's very annoying trying to hit close button (or adjust any slider in adobe programs) whilst touchpad moves by 1cm after the initial delayed touch. Delay also appears while scrolling.

    Thanks

    hello too everyone,
im coming from mac. some question regarding this laptop.
is there any way to tweak the touchpad, (i used the lenovo driver, as suggested by one of the member here) the gestures are better, but the precision still horrible, it seems like theres some kind of acceleration stuff happening, whenever i try to navigate on smaller movement (few millimeters) it keeps accelerating and just generaly awful & hard to make some kind of precision navigation. the scrolling & zooming is also bad and not smooth, for me this trackpad is almost unusable that i have to resort to mouse.

the question is, is there any way to tweak the touchpad to be able to perfom better?

and one more question, what do you guys think about the wi-fi/bluetooth on this laptop?
    mine seem very problematic.
i used 19.40.0.3 wireless driver and 19.60.0.3 blueetooth driver on windows 10 creators update.

the wi-fi signal is really bad i cant even connect to the router (13-15m away) where on my mac, its working absolutely fine. (even on my ****ty 2010-era asus laptop is fine)

and the bluetooth, every once in a while, there seem to be some problem with it, when i connect it to my bluetooth speaker and watching movies/music, sometimes theres a few miliseconds of lag/no sound (kinda like lost connection or stuff) i put the speaker next to the laptop.

is my laptop/wi-fi card defect? or just some driver issue?

    Hello again everyone,

I'm writing down the review of Gigabyte Aero-15 just because.

    A little bit background info:
2 weeks of usage, medium-high usage of Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Autodesk Maya, video rendering and some casual gaming.

    PROS:
    1. surprisingly good build quality materials. very solid, sturdy & firm. Premium look, doesn't look like plastic at all. (I was very skeptical before with the "plastic laptop" build)

    2. high performance laptop yet maintaining the professional look, a very rare trait. you could bring this laptop to the professional/work environment without being judged of having a poor taste (unlike some other high performance laptop with gaudy "gaming" aspect, where your boss will start questioning your professionalism, or maturity level)

    3. it's very thin, light and compact yet very powerful. i7-7700 + GTX 1060

    4. bezel-less screen is awesome. The screen quality itself is ok, nothing outstanding, just good enough. The viewing angle & colors gamut are acceptable. The matte screen is surprisingly good. the response time is ok I guess... I'm a filthy casual.

    5. the battery life is outstanding.

    6. although some people might consider the "per-key backlit keyboard" is just a gimmick, I personally find that very useful to highlights and color assigned some keys and shortcuts, I use a lot of programs and sometimes it's quite difficult to remember all the important shortcuts.

    7. "all-programmable macro keys" is a good addition, although I haven't really tried that yet, the Gigabyte Fusion's keyboard firmware is still buggy.

    8. RAM is upgradeable to 32GB (unlike some other brands) maybe not such a big deal for gaming, but for content creator, especially for Adobe After Effect user, it's a really nice addition.

    9. 2 NVMe slots !!! (again, unlike some other brands)

    10. Thunderbolt 3 !!!

    11. so far the temperature & fan noise is acceptable, something that you'd expect from high performance laptop this thin.

    12. 2-years warranty. just for the peace of mind.

    CONS:
    1. hinges is kinda weak & wobbly. it's not firm enough that if you shake your laptop (say, inside a backpack) the lid is not going to stay closed and will wobble around and open.

    2. the trackpad is rather disappointing. it's just bad.

    3. keyboard driver/firmware is still a huge mess. I use a lot of Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere and Maya shortcuts, and some combinations (Rctrl+Rshit+Ralt+W) still not registered. It's quite frustrating.

    4. the webcam positioning, it's a chin-cam. a compromise that you have to make from the bezel-less screen. I could pass that, don't care that much.

    5. some people might have a problem with the screen bleeds at the bottom part of the screen. it's quite noticeable on low-light with dark background.

    6. the materials are fingerprint magnet. you need to clean it up every once in a while.

    7. Gigabyte Smart Manager UI is.. what can i say... distasteful. (coming from mac user here) it reminding me of some cheap 90's era VCD-player menu on interstate bus TV set.

    8. expensive.

    CONCLUSION:
if you're looking for a slim 14"-15" high performance laptop where you could easily carry around or to bring it to professional/work environment. and you have the money for it. this is a good choice.

the other alternative is Razer Blade 14" if you wanna gamble around with their QC & CS, or a Macbook Pro.

    Hello to all,
I just bought this laptop in Italy.
Unfortunately I found out that it has an HD Sata3 instead of an NVMe PCIe.
If I open my laptop and replace HD I will invalidate my warranty?

No, you won't in Europe. But it is not necessary, a Sata3 SSD is fast enough for all needs.

I think so too, but I got this laptop also watching online reviews, and the HD benckmarks were always very fast, always above 1700/2000 mb/s, my HD stops as per Transcend specification at 530 mb/s
    https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-644
I thought everyone had hd NVMe ... It's frustrating

Got my Aero 15 back from Gigabyte warranty service yesterday. They replaced the motherboard. The unit broke and I contacted support on June 5, I received my RMA number and shipped it to them on June 7, and I received it back on July 5. That's 30 days out of service after 32 days of ownership. I was required to make my own shipping arrangements (which took 3 tries - first two places I went wouldn't take it because of the battery) and to pay for the shipping to them ($80 from Hawaii with insurance.) My time to make it through the support gauntlet, fill out paperwork, and handle the shipping was probably 4-5 hours which if viewed as lost billable time is a significant expense. Most emotionally frustrating is that the laptop was not available for a long trip which was a big factor in making the purchase - without it I probably would have waited for the next one, giving me a newer selection of models to choose from.

As a consumer, I don't know what to make of this. I don't think this is a reasonable ownership experience but then again the handful of manufacturers I know with guaranteed better service times aren't selling any laptops with the same balance of power and portability. And if they were, the price for those service levels can be non-trivial. All models from all manufacturers have a non-zero defect rate, and it's possible I was just the unlucky one this time. There's no hard data source I'm aware of where an individual consumer can get good information on the actual defect rates of individual laptops nor the average time to receive repairs. Reviews generally don't mention service at all and if they do it's usually a paragraph of generalities at most. So what's the smart consumer to do?

Hitting low-80s on my CPU and the mid-70s on the GPU.

    -0.125mV undervolt.

Ambient is probably around 23-25 degrees in my room.

How much do you think a repaste will do?

This sounds pretty typical of my experiences with notebook warranty service, which is to say that most of them are awful. Overseas based phone support does their best to make you give up, then if you manage to get them to accept an RMA, the process is very long. The only brand I've ever had a decent experience with is Apple, sad to say. Was hoping Gigabyte would be decent, but sorry to hear that it sounds like they conform to the industry standard of unacceptable service there as well. Consumer Reports sometimes publishes laptop repair rates, but I think only the major brands like Apple, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. If I recall, Apple was marginal, and everyone else was even worse. I think they rate tech support as well, with similar results.

    Yeah, while gaming.

Thinking of repasting, but if I do, I am not sure if I will be able to return it since the store will probably inspect it for tampering.

Just trying to get a good ballpark.

You can lower your temps quite easily by using the laptop on a stand and making sure there's plenty of air running below. Sounds obvious but you'd be surprised how much of a difference it can make. If your ambient is under 24C you can expect under 80C GPU load.

Will post temps of the liquid metal and a little review when it arrives!

Still waiting for the good discount to buy it for myself but actually still hesitating for the color. Which color did you buy? Any feedback on them?
Black one is for me the safer in terms of choice but on the other hand, for once that a laptop exists in other colors, I would like to take the opportunity to change.
Also as I will use it for graphic design mainly, could be cool to have an orange or green one :).
Really like the green one but I am scared that the exact color in real life is not as freshy lime like it looks like on the pictures..

Couldn't convince my son to get Orange, since it's his college's color. At least the black version has orange trim. I also hate when I buy something that looks bright orange in a photo but arrives and it's pastel peach.

I've improved from 88°C max on the CPU to 79°C max with a -0.135mV undervolt. Lower voltages are unstable.

I would say your temps are normal. But this processor gen really benefits from undervolting... Almost a requirement

I am terribly disappointed right now.

I just received my Aero 15. The first thing I noticed is that there is a considerable amount of light bleed on both the bottom corners of the screen and a little bit on the top left of the screen. Knowing that Gigabyte says that this laptop is X-Rite certified, this amount of light bleed is not acceptable. (My laptop also didn't come with an X-Rite Color Calibration Certified sticker). Next, The keyboard, it just straight out doesn't work, I updated the keyboard firmware to 1.18 and it fixed nothing. I can't do shift any upper or lower row keys (the qwer and zxcv row ), I can't even alt-tab, I can't do any of the function keys like volume, brightness +/-. Every time I do shift Q,W,E,R or any of those upper/lower row key the whole computer would just glitch (it would jump everywhere like holding Tab down) I can't click anywhere until I hit shift again, what a joke. I updated windows hopefully it will fix something, nope it did nothing. The smart update software included just doesn't work. It would update something, restart and then afterward, I open the app again and it would tell me to update it again. Now the trackpad, it doesn't work well either, on smart update, it says it is updated to the latest driver but it's not precise and I can see the cursor "hovering around" as I move the trackpad. This is all I discovered so far, not sure if I got a bad unit and I am seriously considering getting an exchange/refund.

If you guys had any of these problems please let me know how you fixed them.
    Thank you.

A very good guide to follow can be found here. It includes links to latest ThrottleStop version and how to schedule it to run at startup.

Be sure to read everything thoroughly, as there is a lot of text, but the process itself and option are well described.

I used Prime 95 to stress the CPU and HWinfo to monitor the temperatures. HWinfo overloads you with information from all the sensors, but you can curate the list down to the useful ones. In this case it would be CPU core temps and clocks.

I selected the voltages in this sequence: -50mV, -100mV, -125mv, -150mV, -175mV, -160mV, -145mV, -135mV. At -175 the computer froze instantly after applying the voltages. After rebooting I tried -165. It blue screened after running Prime 95 for 5 minutes. -145 was stable in Prime 95 for 30 min but froze when I was testing with PUBG. So I set it to -135mV and it has been happy ever since. If any instability appears I'll just go to -125.

The temperatures at -165mV in Prime 95 were 77°C max and with -135mV are 79°C max, but your mileage might vary according to room temperature and other variables.

I only scheduled TS to run at startup after I was happy with the stability (-135).

Can anyone provide the boot time of the Aero 15? From pushing the start button to when the password can be inserted..

Is there any tool that we can use to measure it automatically?

    thanks a lot

Piggybacking on the other user's questions; can undervolted values differ from owner to owner? And assuming you have PUBG maxed out, Prime 95 aside, what temps are you experiencing?

It is extremely fast. I would say under 10 seconds for sure, but I never measured.

Yes, undervolt values will differ from chip to chip. It is a silicon lottery how much you will be able to undervolt. Median values for the i7 7700HQ seem to be around -100 to -125mV. Temps for gaming are 80°C for CPU and low 70s for GPU with stock paste. Once the honeymoon period is over I will open it up to repaste, but so far I'm quite happy with the temps (after undervolt).

Brilliant, cheers. I'm considering picking one up on holidays this summer to avoid VAT. How is the fan noise when it hits those temps?

Honestly I am wearing headphones while gaming, so I don't hear the fans at all. At idle they are negligible.

The missus hasn't complained of me playing right next to her, so I guess there's that ;)

I asked earlier, but didn't get a response. HDMI out doesn't work if the external monitor is the only source. I can only duplicate or extend the desktop. What am I doing wrong?

Duplicate (clone), or Extend are typically the only choices. For what other choice are you looking?

Thanks for the response. Yes, second screen only was what I was looking for. If I can't make the secondary display the only output, how do I get games to launch in full screen (or borderless window) on the external HDTV?

Make your second screen the main desktop.
