Is there anyone getting his keyboard fully working with all key combinations?
I have to change a bit my positive review so far.
Strg+Shift+Alt + Something is not or just partly working. Even worth, it is executing some strange things in zBrush.
Updated to fusion firmware 1.8. and Gigabyte 4.1.6. I really thought I was through this.
    This is inacceptable.

It's like driving a racing car which wheels are dissapearing in a certain curve combination.

This is so basic, I really can't believe that they deliver a product in this state.
I would feel ashame in their position.

Same here! Sometimes every other LED on the lower edge of the display stays off and this creates the visual effect as reported in this post. Turning the backlight level up and down again resolves the issue. Very strange and annoying effect. I don't know how to to reproduce this backlight issue, it just occurs from time to time.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll hold off from updating the keyboard firmware as it works to my satisfaction at the moment. I wonder whether there's a means for reporting bugs like this to Gigabyte?

Hey Liam, this is quite interesting.. i got mine a few days ago and replaced the Liteon disk with a 512 EVO 960.
I swapped the disk and placed the Liteon on the empty slot.

I then used the recovery usb function to setup the EVO and deleted all partitions in the Liteon. Plus i installed the Samsung NVMe driver.

When i run the diskmark i get around 3070MB read and 1652MB write. Does this look normal?

I am i missing something to make it use its whole power?

    thanks a lot,

I'd say that is indeed pretty normal for the 960 EVO. I think these drivers are spec'd at 3200MB / 1800MB speeds on paper.

My 960EVO benchmarked somewhat slower. Honestly the Liteon you have looks pretty good, too, maybe even close enough to be a wash in some real world metrics.

Hello everybody i notice something really odd while gaming for example i had 30 fps caps while playing unplugged, then i changed it from geforce experience and even put maximum perfomance(under the battery option) and use high perfomance nvidia processor mean i i've everything up for perfomance even smart manager but still i start playing at 70 fps after 3-4 minutes it goes to 10 or 30-40 for no particular reason and if i plug it back and then plug off it still go to 70 then again 1 or 2 minute and drop the fps. (Overwatch all low)
    Sorry for my bad english.
Any advice? i'm really disappointed from this perfomance i got mine yesterday..

I have jsut started to experiment with games so i cannot really provide any feedback, but does anybody know if the temp readings in the smart manager are accurate?

I have been playing GTAV at very high settings and everything runs smooth. The laptop though does feel very hot.
The temps i read are aroun 75 for the GPU and 82for the CPU. Do you think it is normal? I hope it does not harm the laptop in any way...

I have also set the fan mode to gaming rather than maximum.

any advise would be much appreciated. thanks a lot

Those temps seem reasonable. There should be no harm since the cpu and gpu will throttle and reduce temperatures before a dangerous level is reached.

Hey guys received my new Aero 15 laptop, but unfortunately I seem to have coil whine ... it is very noticeable, it's making more noise than the fans. Anyone else got coil whine? I didn't have it in my previous Aero 15 model.

Not to mention but my laptop Windows is not activated, weird. And also the XRite Pantone is not working either. Changing from Smart Color to X Rite Pantone Color seems to do nothing.

I'm afraid my reseller wiped out the ssd or something. Anyone have these issues ?

New poster here. I bought the Aero15 for my son to head off to college with.

    Initial impressions:
    - No concerns with build quality. Everything looks good.
    - We did a battery life test. Wi fi on, key backlighting off, fan in quiet mode. Running integrated graphics, web surfing only. Originally battery life monitor prediction was 5 hrs. After 5 hrs battery meter was ~ 50% so we could probably get close to 9 hrs for class notes etc. He's pretty happy.
    - No truly visible back light bleeding. Will need to watch out for it
    - Got the SATA SSD. His first computer with SSD and he really likes it. Boots up in seconds. Added an extra 16Gb memory.
    - Screen looks fantastic. No issues with lid moving.
    - Not having used a trackpad much he's ok with the performance. Ditto for typing. He likes it.
    - We got ours through Gentech and got the ICD paste. The computer case does get very hot playing games with fans on gaming mode. Haven't looked at component temps yet(what are people using to monitor that?). He commented he is getting better performance than his i5 OC'd CPU Nvidia 970 desktop.

Because of the case temps I want to look into better laptop cooling pads. The one he has is several years old. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good cooling pad?

You're lucky. Use Hwmonitor for temps
Is the X Rite Pantone Color working for you? And is your Windows activated? (Asking this because I bought mine on a reseller too and these aren't working, I don't know why. ) Thanks

I just sent mine back to Newegg for the same Windows activation issue.

I contacted Gigabyte and they told me it was likely due to the manufacturer of their boards issuing a duplicate Windows key. I was told they would look into it and get back to me, but they never did...so I RMA'd it.

Hey guys what are you idle temps? Mine are 55-60 CPU and GPU 55 with a undervolt of 125 and room temps of 28 C :/ This makes the fan always ON in quiet mode. Which is weird as my old laptop without a repaste were not going ON

That seems a bit high for idle. I took some measurements while running a Youtube video and the CPU was around 40C. No undervolting or other tweaks, other than retailer liquid metal paste application. The GPU was not reporting temps either in HWInfo or the Gigabyte Dashboard, presumably because it was disabled. I wonder if it's possible yours isn't automatically switching off via Optimus?

I have a couple pics of the passive stand I purchased here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/gigabyte-aero-15-review.805885/page-2 . I think it would also work very well if combined with any small desktop fan blowing from the side across the surfaces. My son's old Cooler Master cooling pad had a bottom mounted USB fan blowing up through steel mesh. The laptop sat right on that mesh plate, raised only by the rubber feet. I wondered if it had any net benefit at all, given the any improvement from the fan's forced air could be offset by the mesh surface that restricted airflow to the bottom of the laptop. Plus it took up a USB port and the small fan it used was almost as noisy as the ones on his old laptop. I'm sure there are newer designs that have better fans and don't have a mesh design that partially blocks air to bottom mounted intakes like those on the Aero 15.

OK.. so time to start discovering the unpleasant particularities of the laptop. it seems that for some reason i am losing the p button on the keyboard. it does not respond at all. after a restart it come back but it is irritating.. not sure what is triggering it though.. i have udpated the firmware through fusion but please let me know if you have experienced something similar... cheers

Any of you having keyboard problems, did you have the fusion app running in the background? I've had problems with it open (like odd Windows key behavior)

Thanks. I had read your review. Nicely done. I looked at that stand last night and it looks like it will do the job. I had also looked at the Opolar side mount fan you mentioned. It did look like it would block some side ports so your idea of a desk fan coupled with the stand makes a lot of sense.

It has nothing to do with the laptop. It's just Geforce Experience doing the jon to maximize battery life. You are not supposed to game on battery.

ok so today i got to get mine on a first business trip.. it does feel lighter than my previous 15 inch though the adapter is indeed a bit heavy.

As i hoped to get somewhere around the 6-7 hour battery life, i put everything in power saving mode but i cannot say i am impressed by the result. after one and a half hour i got down to 70% and it did give me an anxiety feeling that it was going down fast. i checked windows battery options and it seemed like skype and chrome where the biggest users. I will continue the check but i will be very disappointed if i do not get the 6-7 hour browsing and word editing sessions. My 4 year old samsung ativ 8easily gives me 4-5 hours.

by the way does anyone know how to turn on usb charging when the laptop is off? i checked the bios and could not find any setting.

Also i have the feeling of a small latency. When you press the windows key for example it feels that for a split second it dealys.. is there any tool that i could use to check if have setup something wrong?

    thanks a lot guys!

i saw this at some point in my first week or so, I think it was because I had not updated Smart Manager yet. Before updating, the dGPU seemed always on which you can see via right click the nvidia center it will show if the dGPU is being used and by what file. After updating Smart Manager I have not seen idles above 50 any longer. Currently CPU idle right around 40, and dGPU shows as inactive. Only thing I have done so far is updates, no undervolting or tweaks yet.

I am having trouble accessing the internals. When I try to take the bottom off it seems like it's stuck where it meets the hinge. Has anyone else encountered this? I want to install a second ssd and haven't been able to. I gave it a reasonable amount of force but don't want to break anything..

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same but eventually it came of. There is no other connection like cables so your only fear is breaking the lid. I would say a bit of rattling back and fourth would help get it loose. I also used a credit card to drive the opening at the same time. Hope it helps

Thanks for your reply, I will give that a shot. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any clips I was at risk of breaking. Especially since mine has clips, so some sort of piece that the panel clicks into, around the rest of the panel.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I have an Aero 15 coming in tomorrow and the vendor I bought it from has a 15% restocking fee on opened items. Therefore, I'd like to find this out before opening the box to see whether or not I want to keep the machine. On my Aorus X3 V5, there are a few key combinations I found that do not work. The troublesome key combinations are namely: Shift + Tab + Q, Shift + Tab + A, Shift + Tab + Z. I know there are still a few keyboard combinations on the Aero 15 that are still not functional with the latest firmware updates, but can anybody confirm if there are any key combinations involving Shift + Tab + [Key] that do not function on the Aero 15? Thanks in advance.

The latency you're mentioning is probably just the optimus graphics acting up, which is completely normal (for the first press, consecutive presses should not have as much latency).

SATA to NVME is a pretty minimal difference in load times. The excessive speed NVME SSDs provide only prove to be interesting when transfering or encoding big files.

I have been searching for some time to find a second charger (ADP-150wUSB) but it seems they are only available in Australia?
i have checked the specs and the pin size and it seems it is not trivial to find one.. the pin does not have a needle inside. the needle is on the laptop..

i have come up with this: link

though it does not say that it is for this model the dimensions seem to fit. can anyone confirm from the other listed models if it has any chance of being appropriate?

I ordered a second one with the PC from GentechPC and it is identical to the OEM adapter. Perhaps they also sell them separately if you are in the USA or Canada. Also worth checking with the other custom builders that include them on their order forms like Hidevolution and Xoticpc.

On version 1.1.8 firmware someone still had issues with the following:

    http://forum.gigabyte.us/thread/1102/aero-15-keyboard-issues

I'm a developer as well, and I remap my [Caps] key to [Ctrl]. I've updated to Fusion firmware version 1.1.8 with the following selected results (note [Caps] vs [Ctrl] key) based on my keybindings and daily usage:

    Working:
    [Caps]/[Ctrl] + [Space] (intellisense, auto-complete)
    [Caps]/[Ctrl] + [Backspace] (delete word)
[Caps][Shift] + [All keys on QWERTY row]
[Caps][Shift][Alt] + [All keys on QWERTY row]

    Not working:
[Caps][Shift] + [All keys on QERTY row and ASDF row, including Enter/Return key]
[Caps][Shift][Alt] + [All keys on the ASDF row and ZXCV row]
[Ctrl][Shift][Alt] + [Any Key] (keypress order affects result, e.g. [Alt] becomes X)
    [Ctrl][Shift] + [Space] (results in [Ctrl][Shift] + B)

I called support, they essentially told me that they don't consider my 'unusual' setup valid. This setup works on every other laptop I've owned, as well as external keyboards. Many of my friends also remap [Caps] to [Ctrl], as this is very common for developers (also [Caps] to [Esc])

Unfortunately, the keyboard issues at the moment make the laptop unusable for me, which is a shame because otherwise it is a great piece of hardware. I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue, and that it can be resolved via firmware patch.

Hmm. Can anybody confirm if the following combinations activate properly with the Aero 15?:

    Shift + Tab + 1
    Shift + Tab + Q
    Shift + Tab + A
    Shift + Tab + Z

Or any Shift + Tab + alphanumberical key, really. Thanks again.

I live in Europe, so unfortunately getting it from the US or CANADA would not be an option. Also there seems to be no similar provide in EU that is why i started looking at third party solutions.. :(

hopefully someone can see the post and reply if they have bumped into something similar.

Sure.. I live in Greece but i usually buy most stuff in uk, german or spanish sites depending on their availability to ship. I also have friends in uk, belgium and sweden where i could have it shipped and then sent to me. So pretty much any eu country tha would not incur customs (e.g. Switzerland)

    Thanks again

No problem, now that we know where you can purchase, maybe some members from those regions can help you - I am from USA... not much help.

    Good luck!

    Haven't read the
haven't read the full thread but the laptop is available at ldlc.ch they have a website for france, switzerland, belgium and luxembourg. (FYI the price in CHF is much cheaper than in euros due to the 8% VAT here in Switzerland).

Also if you are not in a hurry, I would recommand to wait for a promotion, they have promotion every 2 days on different things and often you have 7% to 9% on the most expensive article of your cart. I am waiting for the 9% one to buy the Aero 15 :).

Hey man, thanks but i was referring to the laptop charger only. I have the aero and want to get an additional one but they are really hard to find at the moment. The advice would be great for the visitors though

Was testing out the mini DP and it was not working. I checked the adapter and cable with my PC that has a TB/DP port on it and it worked fine. Am I missing something that'd not allow the DP work? Is it intel graphics only?

I'm pretty sure it's connected to the gtx 1060. Try the thunderbolt 3 port if updating drivers and whatnot doesn't work.

Play in windowed borderless. It happens to fullscreen apps unfortunately. Don't know why, would love a solution.

Hey everyone, I am new here. Currently, I am trying to decide between the Aero 15 or the P35X V6, I am a university student that wants something that will last me through classes and be able to the latest games at home. The P35X V6 has a 1070 but the battery and screen is not as nice. I really like the design of the Aero 15 but it only has a 1060. What are your thoughts on this laptop, Which one should I get?

I would definitely go for the aero. I am biased as i already have it, but coming from an extensive use of laptops in my everyday work the portability and battery are crucial. As far as power is concerned i would say that the leap to Gtx series is aleady huge from the previous generation. So the 1060 is way more powerfull than previous cards that you can see that the laptop struggles to keep cool (no fans, but under normal load it gets hot). I mean you already have 150w crambled in a laptop...i almost feel sorry for it when i game and boost the fans to maximum in fear it will wear down with the use...so i would imagine the 1070 would be worse. Plus you have the thunderbolt. If at some point you need more power you get an egpu...hope it gives you some hint..cheers
