There should be an option to revert back to 1709 as it's supposed to be backed up when upgrading.

Yeh, I know how to return to 1709, I wanted to know how other aero 15 owners resolve 1803 freezes, or everybody returned to 1709?))

Has anyone upgraded the wifi card on their aero 15x v8? Where is it located? Under the fan/heat pipe assembly?

I don't have a list of compatible RAM, but for my 15X I got lucky and the first RAM I ordered worked.
Here's the link to it http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/module/M471A2K43CB1-CTD/

As far as Windows 10 and their ridiculous Optimus bugs, I'm sticking to Anniversary still. There is still some freezing but at least the battery life is good and UAC doesn't take a few seconds to show up.
There really needs to be a petition to get Intel to release Windows 7 / 8.1 drivers for their CPU and GPU, forcing us to use this incredibly buggy OS takes away a lot of the joy of owning a brand new laptop!

I have Aero 15x V8. Has anyone upgrading the ssd to 2tb? (Just curious if it's capable to handle up to 2tb)

Also, does somebody do re-paste with liquid metal? I've seen Linus video about using liquid metal on a laptop and the results is amazing..

Yes, it will support a 2TB M.2 SSD.

Yes, we offer Grizzly Conductonaut LM, or Grizzly Conductonaut + Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads as upgrades. Unfortunately, we only do it on laptops we build.

As @Donald@HIDevolution stated the service they offer w/ the conductonaut (liquid metal) application service on the builds they send out offers some really great temp performance. I would highly suggest having this completed if you have yet to order a machine.

Battery life/size was a huge seller for me. I also like the look of the 15x over all of the competitors. It doesn't look too "gamer" styled and i can keep it at my desk at work with no one being the wiser.

    Aero15v7 is using a 30pins eDP cable whereas Aero15v8 has 40pins.

Awe man, I had the same issue with the MSI GS60 a couple years back (accidentally bought a refurb 4k instead of 1080p and couldn't replace the display for the same reason).

    Thanks for the info!

    Hey Guys,

just bought a 15x v8 from HID and am looking to set it up. @Phoenix seems to have a great guide on setting it up with minimal nonsense running in the background. However, I haven't even booted it from factory yet, should I still do a clean install or can I just set it up as per Phoenix instructions and remove all the bloatware with CC cleaner from the start? (trying to save time)

    Thanks for the feedback.

I've had my Aero 15w with a GTX 1060 for about 8 months now, and I'm really enjoying. I just have a few questions that I can't seem to find answered:
    1. Even though the 7700HQ is rated to go up to 100c, I'd prefer it didn't. I undervolted the CPU by -0.115v through Intel XTU and modified the fan profiles to be more aggressive, but I don't want to wear them out. Should I attempt to open up the system and replace ths stock thermal paste with Noctua NT-H1?
    2. Even though I set the Windows power profile to not keep the CPU at a high clockspeed when not in use, it's still staying at high clockspeeds. What can I do to mitigate this?
    3. With the Gigabyte 2-year warranty and the SquareTrade 4-year warranty, am I able to open up the laptop and replace the thermal paste without voiding those warranties?

    Hi @Phoenix

Thank you very much for the offer, it's very generous of you. How would you usually proceed with the tweaking? I assume you would do it over team viewer and I would have to be present to help with restarts etc... I ask because i would love to follow the process and learn about what you are doing so i can be more self sufficient in the future.

    Hey Everyone

I bought an aero 15 last week.

I love it so much but I have so many issues with it.

One big issue is screen tearing, no matter what I do I cant get smooth gameplay in games.

I have done some research apparently its Nvidia optimus because it sends the frames through the cpu.

I have tried everything, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled windows, reinstallled games. Nothing helped. I really dont want to return it because theres nothing better at the moment.

    Please help.

    Regards

Tearing is always an issue, but it's worse since the internal display is connected to the iGPU so it's sent through there (as you mentioned). Try with an external monitor and you *should* not see that issue.
Try using adaptive sync in your games, it's better than vsync imo because it does not have as much of a latency effect as vsync.
Provided your game has that option and/or you can force it through the nvidia control panel.

The video ouputs are also sent though the igpu because the same thing happens with an external monitor, actually its worse.

Im so dissapointed i wish their was an option to turn the igpu off.

Could this be a faulty laptop? My Aero 15x has not tearing on either internal or external. I always use Vsync though.

I didn't think that was true unless you're using the TB3 port to hook up a display. Try limiting the frame rate, maybe that'll help.

    Well, vsync..... eliminates tearing...

    It might be faulty.
I get screen tearing even below refresh rate which means it has to be nvidia optimus.

I am well aware of screen tearing so i can notice it even when others cant.

Such a shame if this laptop had a gsync option i would take it in a heartbeat and live with the five hour battery.

    Back to the store.

I get 5 hours without the gsync haha.
I also get the tearing below 60fps, I've just accepted it because that's been my experience on every gaming laptop I've had.

Hi, I have the Aero 15 2017 model and my windows 10 updated to 10.0.17134 Build 17134 version. For some reason, my in built mic doesn't work and I've tried it on all types of applications such as skype, discord, even the browser. I've checked the audio settings for my mic and it appears to be working. Can someone help me out?
    Thanks

Common issue with the recent Win10 update. For some people it seems to change privacy settings. Simple fix is to set it back to "allow" in Settings > Privacy > Microphone.

I have a different issue with the mic. Have the new V8. Built-in mic seems to work, but connecting a headset with a mic to the 3.5mm jack does not result in sound coming from the mic? Anyone try theirs and have it working? Others on Reddit seem to be having the same issue (do not have the new Win10 update).

Go to realtek audio manager and make sure that your headset is indeed being registered as a headset and not a pair of headphones (which don't have mics)

Hey, I have a bit of problem about battery, I usually playing game while charging, but after playing game and the batter is full, the battery drains so quick (I got only around 3 - 3 half hour). If I use it for 2/3 days without playing game, the laptop can stay up to 8-9 hours for one charge. Just curious if this normal or there's something wrong with my battery...

Realtek HD Audio should show up in the taskbar as an orange speaker icon. If it's not there, you can find it in the following location (if it's installed):

    C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RAVCpl64.exe

When you plug in a headset, it should show this: https://i.imgur.com/cPWwqln.png

Does anyone have any info on the difference in battery life between the 4k Aero 15x and the 1080p 144hz version. I can't seem to find any info about it other than peoples guesses and assumptions?

how long are people getting web browsing and office work with the 4K panel.

my plan is to use this mainly as a coding and software development machine, with some gaming on the side so the increased resolution would be very useful but if it hurts battery life too much then i may go for the 1080p version
