Yup, I'll do that when I get my X5 back. I'm away on holiday for a week so fingers crossed it'll be back when I am.

Well misjah. Dont know if you saw but the x5 V7 has been made avialable for pre-order. If you see Atoms comments he specifically mentions air intakes above keyboard to improve cooling. ;) ;)

I get the impression that that's a misunderstanding. Speaker grills being confused for air intake..we'll see.

Really sorry to hear this happened and I sure hope Aorus can fix it. I am loving my x5 v6 but want to sell it and get an X7. That's how much I love this x5 - I actually want to get a bigger one that will make my travel painful but it's just so good, I regret not getting an x7 now.

I wonder what the choices to screens will end up being, hoping there will be a 1080p option with higher refresh rates, but more importantly, I'm curious if they've added a MUX to switch between the dGPU and iGPU. Everything else looks great.

Supposedly they are taking out 1080p altogether in favor of 1440p and 4K screens across all three models in the X lineup.

Those air vents look kinda small compared to the X7 hahah. But then again, just being able to put them there is already a massive improvement

@knibbler He frequents the overclockers.co.uk forums. His username is Atom80 and he is a company rep. Its not as much a review as it is information he has recieved per mail from the technical department along with pictures of the X5v7.
The X7 specs are not yet released.

I wonder why they opted not to include a 1080p 120hz g-sync option. That's pretty much a perfect match for the 1070.

Definitely. If the CES reports are true, then the X7 will also ditch its older 1080p 75hz IPS display for 1440p 120hz and 4K. IMO i would say that 1440p is a bit of a stretch for the 1070 especially at 120hz if one were to max out settings.

Well I slightly (and I say slightly because it depends on games) disagree.

the 1070 can push out approx 64 fps on witcher 3 ultra settings hairworks on at FHD.

However that is among the most demanding games. In other titles you will easily get 100 FPS and on a 1440p screen well above 80.
For example 1440p on overwatch will give you well above 120 fps.

    But I see your point...

@Buffle good thread to follow, thanks.

I wanted to mention...im running the x5 v6 off an Alienware/Dell 240 watt adapter. I ordered a few big to small adapters for the plug and it works great!

What I've noticed is that with the original adapter (200watt) the laptop throttles just for a brief moment down to about 3ghz when it pulls about 220watts. Hwinfo shows this.. And with the 240 watt adapter this doesn't happen.
My power limits are fine it just seems that the adapter they ship is insufficient for the demand of this overcooked laptop.

I get it though..if they had shipped a larger adapter people would complain that's it's so big and heavy and wouldn't want to buy it.

And throttling down for about 2 seconds isn't the end of the world I guess. Otherwise though..this machine never throttles down at all. I've seen the gpu reach 130watts and mid 60's for the cpu at 3.9 ghz 4 core.

Ahh regarding the PSU. I think my own unit is pulling much more than my 230w supply can output (X7v6). I feel like getting something with a higher output. Any good places to get one?

Any of you here have relatively low volums from the speakers? Can't seem to ignore the fact that it's much quieter than my old laptops. Will uninstalling the Aorus Equalizer fix this or have you guys tweaked something on your own to make it loud?

Any of you here have keyboard issues? The " [ " gets typed out of nowhere. In between letters when I type or even when I don't type anything at all. Would a simple driver update fix this? I have no way of returning this for an RMA. My current fusion firmware is 3.5.4

Perhaps you could try downloading the latest keyboard firmware from the Aorus website. I don't think Fusion has anything to do with it unless you set up a macro inadvertently

Good to know it worked. Granted we can't really do anything other than that seeing as how thin our laptops are compared to the thicker Onkyo and Dynaudio equipped laptops out there

Can someone get me the panel model of the FullHD version? Is it really IPS or just "IPS like" and is just a AUO B156HTN05.2

@MiSJAH should be able to help you. He has this model. Its a TN. None of the IPS panels that Aorus currently use can attain the 120hz refresh rate and 5ms response time yet.

Hmm thats interesting. I would that it is probably because that this panel is one of, if not the first 15.6in 120hz screen on the market so it probably has not been updated yet

Definitley TN, but with a good calibration the screen is the best I've ever had. And i've had IPS screens overclocked to 96hz.

I have an X7v6 which is basically the same overall with the X5 except the screen. On a 120mv undervolt and very aggressive power saving options i pushrd out close to 5 hours of battery life. With the X5 screen being a bit more high res id say around 4 hours plus

Thank you for the response. All of that from a 94wh battery it would be really nice if they offered either a non g-sync panel or maybe something like the Clevo MUXswitch to get some decent battery life out of it.

If I set chrome or whatever browser to not use hardware acceleration, the gpu clock goes down near 150mhz. Then the battery reading says 4+ hours. And that's at a high brightness.. It's a big battery but when the gpu clocks up its lights out.

Netflix will of course raise the gpu clock.
I got rid of my razer mouse because the razer synapse software keeps the gpu at 1440mhz.

I'm pretty sure that will make a difference but will have to test it when I get home tonight. Good to know though that if I can keep the 1070 idling that I could push this thing to the 4.5 hour mark that it would need for me to consider it.

No but this may help: My Aorus x5 v6 the "N" key needed too much pressure, unusuable. I carefully removed the key, and placed a tiny ball 0.5mm of prestik in the center of the rubber key activator, then replaced the keycap. It now works very smoothly.

Well, one thing you could do is wait. After 45 days all of my keys have become a little more frictionless. My "N" key came off quite easily by prying it with a plastic pry pool ( phone opening tool) or guitar pick. Before you do that, you could try with a plastic screwdriver or thin pry tool to gently go around the edges of the M key and just try to re-seat it slightly better and see if that helps.

No luck. Ordering a mech keyboard instead. Haha

Been using XTU lately and it always seems to reset after a while. Using a -0.120v undervolt and after saving and applying it keeps on getting reset.

The solution to xtu resetting is in previous posts. Page 6 or 7 I think.

You have to change the default command and control settings.

Nice. And in the review thread linked in your sig, I see that you haven't repasted, that's all stock? With a great repaste, would anyone even be able to tell the difference between an overclocked Aorus X5 and an overclocked desktop 6700K/1070 GTX?

Well @MiSJAH did have a small accident when repasting with liquid ultra. But before it happened he was getting pretty sick temp drops. CPU wise i think some people can tell...? But GPU wise it can be very hard to tell the difference

Laptop CPU dies are physically smaller than their desktop counterparts, so a little drop is inevitable, but not many are getting their 6700Ks or 7700Ks past 5GHz, and that 6820HK isn't far behind. And depending on your usage, if you're generally GPU limited anyway, the CPU gap might not even matter, the important gap is now bridged it seems.
