Everything is user upgradable except the CPU & GPU - both are covered with "warranty stickers" - so you can't repaste.

Yes those will fit. I've opted for 2 x Plextor M5M's - they seem to be one of the better bang for buck drives.

The Memory in the laptop isn't that quick. As long as it's DDR3 1600 it'll be fine.

Windows 7 installed really easily - I installed the wireless drivers off the CD and for the rest through Live Update. Then updated the nvidea drivers from them

The only issue I has was getting SmartManager to work - it needed some c++ libraries to run properly. These needed to be installed from M$

In terms of maintenance, it seems really well thought out.

One screw removed a large portion of the back panel so you can access both mSATA, the HDD & RAM.

Note the warranty stickers on the heat-syncs

world is coming to an end it seems..now 2,8kg are to much for a human to carry?,,yeah, if u're going to marathon maybe will slow u down with some seconds but regardless of that, you think u are able to feel the 300gr difference? go to gym and put some muscles on you..i'm a girl and carry a 3gk+ laptop every time is needed without those complaining seen on almost all forums like "2.8 kg it's quite heavy"..more and more snobs are evolving.. -.-

you are absolutly right that 2,8kg is light i you just carry it a short distance in your rucksack every now and then.
you just dont consider how other pl are using their laptop.

But i have it in my rucksack nearly every day and i have to walk ALOT when i use it!
also the weigh adds up 1,5l waterbottle + notebook + books and that is standard for me.
so i'm trying to cut it down as best as i can (lighter notebook, fewer books, take a sip more out of the bottle ;) ...)

also i'm on the edge between the p25w and the p34g and there is quite a difference (~1,7kg to 2,5-2,8kg) but i rly want to know how much

if you dont believe me take your backpack but 2-3 1,5l bottles of water in it and go for a walk for atleast 5 hours then come back and tell me how you feel...

is also has nothing to do with muscles... i can assure you that! i'm quite athletic and do workout quite often...

its about your back and it can rly mess up your back if you have that weight on your back ~8h a day.
its like working/playing/browsing infront of your pc/notebook for 8h with a bad posture.
maybe you wont recognice it now, maybe just every now and then but you can be sure if you always have always a bad posture you WILL recognice it in the next 10 years, tops!

nevertheless actually i'm also rly interrested in the weight because i want to know whats true!
its like not knowing if it has a 770m or a 765m in it. the difference is negligible for me but its ~1400€ and i want to know what i pay for...

edit: @BlkKnight thanks all the infos above! much appreciated!!!

I left my laptop running over night and my temps have shot up 5*C.

I guess I broke in the thermal paste, I may repaste if I can get the warranty stickers off w/ out visual damage :p

    Lowest temp now is 45*C Highest Temp 91*C { Was 40/85}

    Edit:
Well you can certainly get more than 4 hours of battery on this laptop. With moderate use.

Just got back from the community laundry center and I still have 55% Battery left, I came in at 9:10 and Left at 11:26, in total 2 Hours and 16 minutes.

I was doing homework via the web and my brightness was around 30% -40% [I kept adjusting it]

Any idea if Gigabyte is working on a 17" version of this model? I like what I've seen so far but I'm wondering if they'll have something newer coming out in the near future.

Yeah I've been wondering why there's no thread for this model, but I digress.

Can't help but wonder why there's no 770 in these 17" system. Would seem a perfect fit.

I pulled the trigger on the P25k (not w) from Newegg yesterday. It seems identical to the P25w, except it has a smaller battery and the GTX 765 instead of the 770. I can't seem to find any reviews or anything about it. Has anyone heard about this?

That review is a bit unfair.

I do not have any issues with the hinge. The screen frame is firm enough.

No wi-fi issues despite going through two floors @ roughly 8 metres

As mentioned earlier my temps were very cool under load. No game crashes or blue screens.

A question for those who bought from OcUK (if anyone did):
What is your keyboard layout? Specifally, does it feature a big Enter/Return key or is it half-height?

    For reference, big Enter:
    View attachment 105918

    half-heght:
    View attachment 105917

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm actually just choosing between P34G and P25W (both are not yet available in Russia, but I'm considering buying in UK through my friend).
Portability of P34G is great, but I wonder if it'll run Watch Dogs and Mirror's Edge 2 smoothly enough.
Which one do you think will have more aftermarket value?

The P25W is more niche and aimed at gamers.

The P34Gis a mainstream light portable machine that can play games. Not as powerful as the P25W, but is slimmer & lighter.

The P25W will have more longevity due to the faster GPU.

Yep, this + there is a bigger chance of finding a replacement battery for P25W.

The main question: is extra GPU muscle worth extra 1.2 kg of weigh/clunkinesst? :)
Personally, P34G will satisfy me if it will be able to run upcoming Mirror's Edge 2 and Watch Dogs smoothly.

    Horses for courses.

Extra clunkiness means it runs cooler & has a faster GPU (oh, you can upgrade the CPU as well at some point)

It's a doddle to change "user serviceable" parts.

    Hi guys,

New poster here, need some help with my new P25W. Got this machine today after weeks of research and now that it's here I have to say I'm a bit dissapointed. I booted up Far Cry 3, expecting it to run on High with no problems (GTX 770 can apparently run it at about 60fps). Instead, I got TONS of what I believe was screen tearing (white horizontal lines popping up every 20-30 seconds or so). Otherwise it run pretty much fine, other than a few random big fuzzy bars and some weird looking shadow textures. It also crashed once.

So, I threw on V-Sync, nothing changed. Bumped it down to Medium, still bars popping up but seemingly a bit less. Bumped it down to low, it's running real smooth but STILL BARS (not they were rare instead of very often). Did I just have improper expectations of what this thing could do, or is there a problem with my default set-up? I remember reading that sometimes having the Intel HD graphics card plus the GeForce can confuse things, maybe that's the problem?

I have the CF-4 model by the way ( Gigabyte P25W-CF4 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Black. Gigabyte P25W-CF4)

    That's not right

Did you put 8.1 on? Check device manager for problems. .

    1 run memtest86
    2 install nvidia beta drivers

Okay so I updated to Windows 8.1, nothing. Then, when in the device manager, I scanned for hardware changes and I believe the video card completely failed.

I went to the device manager, it reported a problem with the card. So, I followed the Help advice and uninstalled the device and then scanned to put it back on. It momentarily recovered as a "3D card" or something like that, and then my entire screen went black (except for my mouse when I moved it) and I had to do a hard reset. Now it's showing up as completely fine in device manager, but when I play it's worse than ever.

Ran memtest86, no errors reported. If you need any information from it let me know and I can provide it.

Installed the latest beta drivers, still the same.

At this point I'm thinking Gigabyte straight up sent me a faulty device.

I even get the lines and popping playing games like Hearthstone on high or Dead Space 2 (not not nearly as much). Also in Far Cry 3 it's started just blacking randomly for a second.

When you update to 8.1 the video card drivers are not compatible - hence the problem.

    Try the following:

    1. Uninstall the Video card (reboot)
    2. Using Smart update update Everything (reboot)
    3. Install the laterst nvidea drivers. (reboot)

    Run 3Dmark

If you still get corruption, then chances are the video card is dead.

Additionally, try disabling the 770m and run 3dmark on the Haswell chip & see what happends

Hey everyone I am debating between this laptop a GT60 and a GS70, they are different styles for the most part but I have a question for owners of the P25

In all honesty, do you like it or wish you have gone for something else? Thanks!

Hi, just got my P25W and have Windows 8.1 installed. I'm having the same problem as the person you gave the above solution to but haven't tried your solution myself as of yet.

    A couple of question:
    1. By the "latest nvidia drivers" did you mean the current beta driver or should I go with the latest WHQL one?
    2. Has anyone else apart from me and the other bloke that you know of got the same issue?

It's a good thing that the notebook comes with 2 year warranty but the problem is the store is closed during the christmas and new year holidays and I live far from where the store is, so by the time the shop opens for business, I'd be miles away. So I need to make sure this is an issue that I myself can solve because sending a $2000+ notebook by post to the store. Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers for that.

I was using the latest driver (non beta) when the white line issue happened.

I've just used the smart update app and downgrade my nvidia driver to the Gigabyte endorsed version. So far so good. The white line still does appear at times but very very rare. Reckon it's more to do with the LCD's refresh rate. I'll leave it as it is for now but once the problem becomes even more persistent then I will definitely try out the beta driver.

    Thanks a lot mate!

Uninstall the realtek drivers & reboot.

See how windows default drivers are.

Then download the latest from realtek and give them a go.

Changing the topic slightly, I'm trying to update my BIOS via Smart Update and it's been stuck on SmartFlash screen saying "System will force Shutdown without any warning after complete Firmware upgrade" ever since. Is this normal, how long does it usually take?

Tried this several times, no difference. I'm positive it's a software issue because it has (seemingly) randomly worked just fine for brief periods before, but I can't figure out what conditions led to it working fine. Perhaps Windows is automatically applying some Gigabyte/Dolby correction to the sound even without the Realtek/Dolby software installed?

    It's quite frustrating.

EDIT: There is also a slight static pop-pop sound in the headphones about every second, like a heartbeat, that immediately stops whenever the computer starts playing an actual sound.

Something's wrong with mine then. It's been more than 12 hours and still nothing. No idea what to do except for skipping the update.

Thanks BlkKnight! And Happy New Year 2014!
