The Aorus website seemed to go down for a bit during the past couple days, and I think it might have something to do with the new model they have added, Aorus X7 Pro.

Man, if this thing is not heat throttled, I'm picking one up as soon as it's available in the US. (Been waiting 5 years to upgrade my damn envy 15)

Do you think they have good IPS 17" panels? I'd wait for reviews.

When will we know if it has the better panel?

When will we be able to pre-order this in the US like from Amazon or Newegg?

Also would you rather have the Aorus X7 Pro or the Alienware 18 with 980M SLI? And Why?

No idea, I'll keep an eye out for it.

I think the Alienware 18 is intended for a completely different market. This is a very bulky, large desktop replacement type form factor. In my case, I would prefer to get a desktop before buying a large laptop like this.

The Aorus X7 is thin form factor, much more portable (22.9mm / 0.9 in). The Alienware 18 is 56.6mm (2.23 inches) thick and weighs 12 lbs (5.44kg). This is twice the weight of the Aorus and and almost as large as a mini-ITX desktop.

I want one of these paired with a UHD 3840x2160 screen.

Is there any chance that these will come with one sometime in the near future?

I want to hold out on buying a laptop until there is something like this with a 4k screen.

Edit: It just makes sense you know, pair the high DPI monitor with the mobile graphic equivalent of a desktop 980.

Woah, that thing is a beast! Does SLI "just work" with most programs? Or is it something I would have to fiddle with continually?

Any idea what price this will start at or where it will be available?

Eh, you can always buy a large external 4k display, going to look much better than a laptop screen.

As I understand, many AAA games support SLI, but often it takes a little while after release before there is some driver update. Also some games perform better than others, and some still do not work well at all with SLI. The id Tech engine games (RAGE, Wolfenstein New Order, Evil Within, DOOM 4) use OpenGL instead of DX11, and SLI is useless for these, so you would be stuck with one 970m.

I think the starting price is listed as $2599: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Aorus-to-ship-X7-Pro-with-GTX-970M-SLI-for-2599.127637.0.html

ExcaliburPC is selling it for $2999: http://www.excaliberpc.com/632807/aorus-x7-pro-17.3-ultra.html

For me no optical is a plus, I wish the P35x v3 had another permanent drive bay for Raid purposes rather than swappable ODD.

yea i am on the boarder of upgrading my m17x R4 to the die shrink GPU or get this with a die shrink CPU and GPU (pascal?) in a year or two or whatever. I am content for now but the other requirement is DDR 4 and m2 raid. The next rig needs to last me as long as this R4 has. This R4 was a sweet spot to upgrade and i want the next one to be the same. m.2, die shrunk CPU/GPU, 4k maybe, and DDR4 sounds like a long life laptop to me :).

    1 or two gens tops.

Here you go guys - not the best, but quick benchmarks of the 970, 980, and 970 SLI versus desktop GPU and setup. Pretty impressive I must say.

I was definitely surprised. Enjoy

ha, I came here searching for more info because I just watched that video.

    Gigabyte definitely has my interest.

About the other person asking if it has an optical drive, I think if you require or really want that option then you are looking in the wrong place for a laptop. The whole idea with this is to be as uber thin as possible, Optical Drives are the first to go in such designs. To expect or even ask if it has an optical drive is like asking if the Tesla cars have a cool aggressive exhaust tone... It is not applicable.

optical drives are not very thick...the problem lies in the fact that with it being thin you can't stack MOBO and OD on top of each other. For you to fit an OD you would have to make sure there is a void in design but with that many fans, GPUs, mSATA slots, and speakers that won't happen.

Also i didn't notice it saying anywhere and haven't seen a good review out yet but is the battery removable?

    EDIT:
the 765 version had no removable batter :/

Also the 765 version has a different cooling design so the new version might even have better cooling :) Also HT results show it flat so no surprise cooling eats crap. I always prop my R4 since it helps a ton so i have high hopes for the new version. It seems like they made some solid improvements over the last version. (assuming 765m was the last version)

design uses 3 heat pipes now instead of 2 and CPU is on both heatsinks :)

I am totally stocked for a broadwell refresh. The lack of OD is sad but the lack of a removable batter is what hurts the most. Is it at least easily replaced? My batteries eat crap after a year of hard use :/

Also i saw optimise doesn't work on SLI i guess. Is that still true? If you disable SLI does optimise work? Have you heard them adding a hardware mux or whatever?

Good points and questions. Those pretty much cover my concerns. My laptop batteries always die after about 3 yrs. Luckily I've been able to replace them easily even on the "non-removable" ones. If I can't replace the battery myself, then I will not buy the laptop. Need to see the insides to make my decision. I'm not familiar enough about broadwell to know if I should wait for it or not. I'll have to study that some more. So far I really like this x7 pro, but I share your same reservations with the exception of the OD. I don't really watch movies on the go.

I wouldn't expect Aorus or Gigabyte to say we can replace the battery ourselves..

But I would expect to be able to find a replacement battery on ebay or from an online battery/parts store. They wouldn't be brand new batteries probably, but very slightly used batteries taken from junked or refurbished units. But so far, I cannot find ANY replacement batteries of any sort for previous gen Aorus X7. So, maybe the only recourse would be to mail the laptop to them for replacement. My laptop batteries have never failed within a year, but usually around 3 or 4 yr, outside of warranty, so I'd be charged for that repair. And I need my laptop for my daily work business, so mailing it and waiting for repairs wouldn't be a good option for me.

My other concern is if the batteries are glued to case (like in some Macs), soldered connections, or otherwise somehow not easily replaceable.

this is what Aorus said to my question

should i ask anything else? Price to replace battery?

someone mentioned you can OC the 4870H by 4 multiplier, which would be enough in my eyes where a greater version or replaceable SOC is not really needed since cooling starts to become the issue. At best you might get an extra 2-4 multipliers for single thread but that's if your lucky.

Also if i understand it so far is that there is no way to go to intel graphics on the Aorus due to it ebing SLI and no MUX. What i don't get is why can't you diable a card then get Optimis to work?

CPU throttling is a big issue. Hexus said CPU start throttling if temperature past 70C mark. I have a Clevo P150 with i7 4810MQ and it never throttle the clock speed @ 70C.

Don't think issue is limited to one unit. It looks like BIOS is configured to throttle the CPU @ 70C.

the x3 throttles on cpu and so does the v1 and v2 x7, but the cpu throttle isnt a major issue as the 970m`s and working at full power and no throttle from them at all, and its reflected in the benchmarks aswell

    Hi guys

Im pretty new to gaming laptop and am interested in getting one to replace my 6 years old desktop. Just wondering are the drivers especially graphics card released by the laptop manufacturers, or are they released by AMD/Nvidia themselves?

This laptop is now in stock at Newegg in the USA.

I've ordered my X7Pro from XoticPC and they have advised me that they are procuring stock from their supplier (if it has not all ready arrived, a rep has told me they were ordered December 1st and they take about 5 business days to deliver to XoticPC). XoticPC pre-orders should ship early to mid-next week.
