Ahhh I can help with the headphone jack! Gigabyte won't be able to fix that as it is a design issue and the interference you hear is the headphone jack being so close to the hard drive. This cannot be fixed but you can use this for your headphones as a work around. As for the speaker issue, no idea. Mine seem fine although I usually have my laptop sound playing through TV.

I have none of them games! Could use Heaven Benchmark 4.0 (free) on ultra settings to do a synthetic test?

Gigabyte have been really helpful. They first sent over a replacement board, but it was the same as the current board (V2). That didn't help things, so now they're sending the latest one over (V3). The rep said it should help with the problem, but it might not completely get rid of it.

If it is still really bad, I might take the spinning drive out to see if it helps.

I've had an arb issue where that spinning drive doesn't stop spinning, can't figure out why though. When I first got it, it stopped spinning if it wasn't being used after a while.

Anyway, onto the benchmarks. I installed Heaven last night and ran it for a good 20 minutes. I don't think it stresses out the laptop as much as a full on game. I just couldn't get the temps high enough.

When idling, the GPU was at 32 degrees, and CPU at 28 / 29. Under load, the CPU went up to 82 / 86, but really hovered in the low 70's. The GPU hovered in the low 70's / upper 60's. It was rather chilly last night, ambient temps were around 21 / 20 degrees.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I have an external USB sound card that came with my headphones. While the headphones are high end, the sound card is rather budget. It did improve things (marginally) but it wasn't a complete solution.

    Hi all,

I just purchased a p37xv5 with a 1080p screen. But, I'm wondering if I should have splurged for the 4k screen.

Does anybody know the part number for the 4k screen that I can buy separately and install myself?

Also, will I need to do any updating with the 4k screen installed to make it work?

I'm looking at getting a P37x V5, but the heat has me a bit worried. Will there be any long term issues with the max heat temps when gaming? I also saw someone mention the HIDEvolution CoolLaboratory LUTC, will that lower the temps, and if so, by how much?

My other questions is if this laptop can be used with the new external gpu docks coming out. Like this: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/asus-rog-xg-station-2-gpu-dock-usb-c,31983.html.

Really wish they did something like Acer's frost core. It already has a swappable optical drive/extra storage just like the Predator, but no ability to add a fan? Seems like the one big prob for this computer could have been partially solved by that.

No gigabyte laptop at this time support thunderbolt 3 so no external GPU's can be used at this time.

THe laptops that do support it still need to get some work done. On the Dell & Alienware's the TB3 docks work but have some disconnect issues, HP do not support 'm at all and Acer predator can connect but the connection is even more flaky than with the Dell & Alienware laptops.

Asus has a laptop in the works that support it and Razer Blade2016 & stealth support it.

I managed to crack my 1080p screen and I'm looking for a replacement, I would be interested in upgrading to 4k if the price is reasonable.

Does anyone have the part numbers or specs for both types of replacement screen? I'm in the UK and can't find much information..

You have to source the screen cable as well.

    you need a 40pin cable.

Thanks for the response, do I need a 40 pin cable for both types of screen or just the 4k?

Just the 4K. Not sure if the motherboard also has a 40pin connector though. Maybe 1080P is the max because of a 30pin connector. Pretty much all compatible 1080P panels have a 30pin connector. So if you can source a compatible panel you shouldnt have to worry about the cable. Not sure about the assembly though. I think it uses a lot of adhesive. Maybe you can find a full display assembly on aliexpress.

Does anyone have any good instructions for removing a cracked screen?

I can't seen any retaining screws on the bezel and there's nowhere obvious to pop the bezel off the lid..

Hey guys I need assistance with my new P37W V4 I got last week. The system came with a mechanical 1TB HD and I've been wanting to upgrade it to a SSD. I first purchased an msata SSD, cloned Windows 10 and tried to boot from it but the bios doesn't recognize it as a bootable drive. I then tried a new Kingston 240gb SSD 2.5" and went through the same process but the bios still doesn't read it. I tried to remove the old 1tb drive and replaced t with the SSD alone and the machine boots into bios without giving me an option to choose a drive.

Also, I created a USB backup before I began the process but the machine doesn't read the USB as a bootable USB either.

    What am I doing wrong??

    hi all,

I ve bought a p37w v5 and I really like it except the left side fan is on all the time, around 2200rpm, and I cannot change it in the smart manager, at all..
is it supposed to 'work' like that?

sent an email to gigabyte support and they said it is possibly HW failure...

how can I alter the speed with another SW?

    thanks a lot,

    Richard

No its not normal, make sure you are on the balanced power profile and not on max performance, that way the CPU can downclock when not needed.
Your first problem seems to be related to your second one.

Actually, you may wish to read some of the Throttlestop thread under Hardware upgrades. Newer chips can appear to be running at high speed, even when they are not loaded. If temperature remains low, your CPU is not loaded. It may actually be better to use a power profile with 100% minimum and allow chip to control speed. UncleWebb explains it better.

I got the laptop when it first came out and to this day, I wished I got the 1080p screen. I have yet to watch anything in 4k and playing games on it can be a pain sometimes.

What I mean by pain, is that I would have to configure the resolution or redo the games UI to make it bigger because the game didn't scale correctly. Even with Windows 10 scaling some programs boot up screen is too small. Plus I ever glasses so sometimes this game can be too small to read.

With that said, I new what I was getting myself into when I changed my mind from 1080p to 4k. The good thing is my desktop has been down since I did an EVGA step-up and traded in my 980 Ti hybrid SLI for 1080 FE sli and it has powered my Acer Predator 4k so beautifully. So I guess this is only time I have utilized it fully. Though that's probably due to the 980m.

So all in all, it can be a hassle if you have glasses and play games because you might have to do some tinkering. But, the picture quality is awesome.

Does anybody know where I can buy a replacement battery for the P37x v5? I have had to have it replaced once before by my insurance but they took the piss sorting it out so I am not going to replace it from them again. It first died and my laptop would only turn on when it was disconnected from the motherboard, got it replaced and it has done it again after a month.

Also, is anybody having problem with restarts/shutdowns? My restart won't always work, it will restart and then instead of the spinning wheel and loading it will stay at the Gigabyte screen. When it comes to shutdowns, it will get past the shutting down screen, go black, but then won't actually turn off until I hard reset it.

Where are you based? You could contact whoever is the supplier for Gigabyte products in your country and ask them to give you a quote? Otherwise there are loads of online stores around who sell batteries for laptops.

As for the restarts / shutdowns, hasn't happened to me. The only odd thing I've picked up with mine is some odd horizontal lines going across the screen near the Gigabyte logo when starting up. It's fine after that though.

Your situation is really odd though. Was it perhaps dropped or damaged in any way?

I'm based just out of the UK which makes it a pain for warranty and the like (Gigabyte repair team wanted me to send and collect laptop from the mainland which is obviously a hard thing to do). I have tried looking for the battery but otherwise had no luck or never trusted the site.

I did spill tea on it a long time ago but these problems are unrelated (so i think) i quickly turned it off, took laptop apart and cleaned/dried out etc. I am thinking of doing a clean install of windows to see if that will fix the issues of restarts/shutdowns. Worst part is event viewer wont give back any information regarding these issues

The laptop restarts and shutdown fine, the only problem that I have is with Hibernate, it says on for a few minutes and finally shuts off, when I turn it on again it fails to resume from hibernation.

On Saturday, I spilled some water on my P37. I turned it over immediately to drain. Afterwards, some of the keys were unresponsive. I opened the laptop out and cleaned it off, also took the keyboard out and cleaned the underside. In addition, I popped some of the "broken" keys out and cleaned underneath them. Some of the keys I had trouble getting back in place - namely, the left control, m, and k keys. Sunday, all the keys were working again. Iwas able to pop the m key back in, but the left control and k key I could not. It appears that the retainer clips on the k key are broken. I am becoming accustomed to using the right control key, and I popped out the right windows key (or pagination key, I guess... it has a page on it) and retainer clips, and put the right windows key in where the k key used to be.

Today, that windows key popped out.

TLDR: I spilled water on my keyboard on Saturday, and during my repairs, I screwed up the left control and k keys. I need a replacement keyboard. Does anyone know where to buy one? I contacted XOTIC PC, whom I bought the laptop from, but according to them, gigabyte doesn't ship replacement parts out for their laptops - I would need to send the entire laptop in for repairs. I'm not giving up my laptop for 2 weeks and paying hundreds in shipping, parts, and labor fees for a 5 minute keyboard replacement job I already know I can do from my this cleaning process (take out 4 screws on the underside, pry keyboard out, detach ribbon, attach ribbon to new keyboard, put new keyboard in, put 4 keyboard screws on the underside back in place). This is ridiculous.

Just wanted to say. I acquired a P37XV6 recently for a very good price ($1300) and my one issue with it was the thermals. Running any demanding application for a significant amount of time was resulting in my temps getting very high (>95c, as high as 104c for the CPU, and >95c for the GPU) it was getting to the point where the machine was throttling in spite of the fan sounding like something out of a Boeing 747 at cruising altitude.

I decided to take the risk and open it up and manually repaste the CPU and GPU and it made a HUGE difference. The max CPU temp after prolonged gaming is now 85c and the max GPU temp is 77c, the CPU is now also able to reach its turbo core speed without throttling so the performance has increased as well. In addition, during prolonged gaming sessions the fan now sounds like something out of a Cesna Skyline at cruising altitude rather than a Boeing 747 (it isn't revving up to max anymore.)

Let me just say, that for those of you who decide to do it, it is kind of a pain in the ass. Opening the chassis requires you to use two different types of screwdriver, one of which isn't exactly common or easy to find if you don't regularly do this kind of stuff. In addition, you have to repaste everything, they used two types of paste (the thermal grease they use on the components other than the GPU and CPU core is very sticky and kind of a pain to remove) in addition to thermal stickers too. You have to remove all of it and repaste all the components, that includes removing the stickers and pasting those components too. It isn't easy (I had an MSI GX60 before this and repasting that was super easy) but it is DEFINITELY worthwhile if you have the tools and are willing to give it a go.

Huh, that's interesting with the thermal stickers, I repasted my P37xV5 and didn't have no stickers to redo. The paste job on mine was absolutely awful though, and although my initial heat on my laptop was not as high as yours (never went above 100c), repasting made a huge difference. I would recommend to anyone who feel comfortable with in repasting

How do I change the colorspace on my p37xv6 4k panel to SRGB? Can't stand the oversaturated colors. The smart color in smartmanager only changes color temperature.

I noticed a subtle rattling inside my P37X only to discover one half of the little hard drive caddy bits had sheered off leaving the HDD only attached at one corner. Does anyone know where I might be able to get another one? Gigabyte support any good?

I've just got one of these second hand, and noticed the CPU is running very hot (around 95C max when running Unigine Heaven - curiously it's cooler at high 80s on Prime95), with a clock speed of around 2.8GHz for Prime (not sure for Heaven). I tried repasting the cooler but the temperatures are just the same. Can anyone tell me if there is something wrong or is this normal?

    several things you could check
    1. Do not paste too much grease on the die, just make it thin and evenly distributed
    2. make sure the thermal module is well-fixed because even slight gap between die and thermal module may cause huge heat

I got to say sorry about that cuz that's kind of common problem on the panel with AdobeRGB 100%. We're working on it with X-Rite Pantone and will get back to all of you if we got something

I live with two german shepherds and their fur gets into my fans for my P37xV6. Has anyone had experience detaching the fans to clean them out, or know where I can find a disassembly guide?

I've tried to get a service manual from gigabyte a couple of times over the last few years with no luck.
When I've been cleaning the fans on my P37X v6, I've noticed that one of the fans seems to also be part of the heatsink. I think it's the GPU side.
It looks like you can't take that fan out to blow out the radiator part without completely removing the heatsink. The CPU side fan comes out OK though.
I just used heaps of air duster and a toothpick to stop the fan from spinning.

Does anyone know what the highest memory speed that the P37X v6 can run at is?
My machine came with 2400MHz memory, which runs at that speed, but can the v6 run memory at higher speeds like 2666MHz or up?

I found a hyperx impact 3200mhz 32gb kit at a good price on ebay, so bought it.
When I installed it... the machine didn't boot. Couldn't even get to bios.
However, when one of the 3200mhz modules was combined with one of the original 2400mhz modules, it works fine. So I know that the kit works.

So, if you've got a p37x v6 (this is probably the same for the v5 as well), then the hyperx impact 3200mhz memory isn't for you.
