For the normal user, the system may be inadequate. For people who know what they're doing, this machine would probably be the best thing ever in this form factor.

Amazon.com: UpBright® NEW AC / DC Adapter For Gigabyte Aorus X7 V2 X7-CF1 X7V2-CF1 17.3" Gaming Notebook Laptop PC Power Supply Cord Cable PS Charger Mains PSU: Computers & Accessories

Thats the power adapter I ordered this morning. I emailed them asking how much Watts it has but i doubt they will reply back to me before I get it. Hard to find an authentic Aorus X7 power adapter w/o going through a reseller.

The more I know now, the more I feel I should of been patient and awaited for XoticPC to send me my GS70 6gb but too late now. Lucky for me, I can do all these mods or fixes myself. Hopefully, I can find a good power adapter to take advantage of the power and find a Killer Network 1525 AC card.

Seriously? Look at the frame rates in-game and benchmark scores. Regardless of the temps, the P35x eats the GS60 for breakfast.

Based on what I am reading from description, 240W.

And yes, pretty much Clevo systems taught me to handle my own regardless of what I buy.

True, but I have a gaming pc which will be for my games, plus Xbox one and there is no need for a 980 in my laptop. I wanted a laptop so I can use it when I am actually away, so it's portability and coolness for me, the fact that it runs game well is a real bonus. Granted I could get something cheaper then, but I like shiny and new. Heat and noise are issues for me, but then that's just me. You have your own preference.

The keyboard keeps bugging me. I was able to capture my non-lineair wobbly keyboard. What do you guys think?

The palm area does not get hot during gaming, the keyboard does get a little hot around the WASD area but mor noticeable around the numpad area, but nothing extreme.

    Yes, here you go:

Are you sure it's throtteled due to heat? Intel Extreme Tuning Utility says mine is 'Power Limit Throtteling', no word about heat.
After 28 seconds, Turbo Boost drops from 3.6Ghz back to around 2.6-2.7Ghz and keeps hovering around that. I tried raising 'Turbo Boost Power Max' to the same value as 'Turbo Boost Short Power Max' to no advance. It keeps 'Power Limit Throtteling', and this is when I'm just running a CPU benchmark only, i.e. not stressing the GPU....

Since I don't like that, I modified the clock ratio's so it stays fixed at 2.6Ghz instead of hopping around. Additionally I did a -77mV undervolt. More and 3dmark would crash. Here are my Intel Extreme Turning Utility settings:
I ran Firestrike with these settings, results: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4860HQ Processor,GIGABYTE P35V3
PS. My Intel Extreme Tuning Utility is bugged. It keeps saying Active Core Count = 1 as well as 'Processor Frequency 0.0Ghz. It was working before like it should...

An AC adapter with more Watts doesn't automatically mean the laptop will consume it. Some mainboards just aren't designed to run out of their spec. I had a Dell Studio 1749 before and if I remember correctly a Dell Engineer on their forums stated that an 120W adapter was no option as the motherboard would not allow more Watts. Probably it'll be the same with the P35X. Else, I can't imagine the Gigabyte engineers wouldn't have included a more powerful power supply.

If you guys have more questions just shoot.

The Auros X7 has a 200W power adapter according to notebookcheck.net, so it looks like that one is 200W - still it's more than the 180W standard adapter. I think there's a good chance that it will be compatible, both in terms of being recognised & allowing the battery to charge, as well as being able to exploit the extra 20W - can't be sure though, it might be limited through the motherboard in terms of power.

My point is that it doesn't throttle in all games. Crysis 3 is the worst offender. Worst case scenario.

My fans are silent throughout idle. No random ramping up, unlike my Clevo which loves to do that at every opportunity. I guess my repaste helped that.

Heat on bottom isn't an issue for me, I'll never game with it on my bare lap without a cooler. Keyboard seems fine, it's the area above the keyboard that heats up the most.

The speakers are OK in my opinion. Maybe it's just because I have got used to Clevo speakers, that anything else seems good to my ears!

Keyboard - I'll check to see if mine is the same.

CPU - definitely thermal (green line in XTU).

    Sent from my Nexus 5

Yes, of course, that's why I asked if you could run a game like Crysis 3 for your testing in the first place; future games are just going to end up using more CPU power, not less, (although DX12 might help). I think if I had your laptop I'd do what Freekers did (when gaming): limiting the turbo so I could guarantee it wouldn't throttle below that point, also the undervolting too - that way there's that extra juice for the overclocked 980M, as well as more thermal headroom for the 980M too.

Gotta love Gigabyte with their buggy software. Gigabyte Smart Manager V3, which is used to control the fan speed/brightness/toggle WiFi etc, now automatically opens the Sound control panel every time it runs. Yes, also at boot....

I made a small video for you guys to show: Gigabyte Smart Manager V3 Bug - YouTube
Please excuse my voice, I have a cold....

No clue how to fix this or debug this. I can see it spawning a rundll32.exe process but I'm not sure how to supress that.
I am running version 4.3.9, but the latest beta 4.4.3 did not make a difference....

Just got a reply from the seller and its a 180W power adapter. So sad and canceling the order as we speak.. Going to see if I can find the original 200W Aorus X7 adapter. All I can find is the 180W v2 versions.

The game seems to stutter, or maybe it's the recording ?
Also, is Adaptive Vsync enabled ? I thought with a 60 Hz monitor the fps should be 60 or 30 with Vsync on.

Edit : if we look at the following video we can notice a lot of frametime drops compared to the desktop cards :

That's good Cakefish, a good framerate there, especially with everything pretty much maxed out! It was really useful to see the GPU usage in the top right hand corner, I could see that it wasn't pegged at 99% usage for a fair bit of it, it dipped down into the 80% area at times even though framerate was below 60fps - I think this could be because your CPU at 2.6GHz is limiting the framerate at some points. Do you think that's the case? It looked very playable though, was that with your GPU clock at 1200Mhz stabalised?

Why is my Kingston Hyper-X Fury 240GB SSD so darn slow? It's advertised as being 500mb/sec sequential write. Something is clearly wrong :(

ATTO shows different results because ATTO produces highly compressible datasets. The kingston HyperX drives are based on the sandforce controller.. which quite frankly sucks. ( I always have problems with them with TRIM )

I would highly suggest a full secure erase + Firmware update if the drive isn't new.

Then retest with CDM using 0 fill ( compressible, and test using default incompressible )

Sandforce drives always generally get their rated speeds with compressible datasets. In general, they do about 220MB/s - 300MB/s writes incompressible.

Reads are almost always at 500MB/s

Got my laptop a few hours ago and its so beautiful. Currently creating a backup recovery USB then I'm going install my 500GB EVO SSD's and do a fresh install. Once, I get 1TB EVO tomorrow, I'll let me know if its compatible or not. I'm guessing yes but will find out for sure tomorrow.

So out of 10 how noisy is this laptop? Could you use it in a library without people giving your dirty looks? Could you use it in bed without waking up your partner?

I have on of these on order with Jeff from Affordable Laptops but I'm considering just buying the MSI GS60 which is the exact same price and they have it in stock.

I currently have a P150HM with a GTX485 and in typical Clevo fashion the fans spin randomly at idle which really annoys me and it does get louder than I would like at full speed but regular gaming (say WoW) doesn't require full fan speed.
Do you recon the P35x would be similarly frustrating?

Not sure I would be game to re-paste (Why you no offer this service Jeff!?! haha) but I might undervolt it. I also use my laptop on my LAP alot... Especially in bed - so comfortable :) Do you think this would be viable with a P35x?

About the DPC latency spikes... My desktop also had these spikes into the 480us range (still in the green though) periodically, like every 4 seconds. This made me suspect it might be a network adapter, and lo and behold it was. The culprit was actually Intel's own Gigabit Ethernet adapter, and the Realtek adapter did not contribute to DPC latency at all, which was very ironic. WiFi was totally fine too. After disabling Intel's Gigabit adapter DPC latency hovered in the 120us region, with no more periodic spiking.

Wait hang on you're a woman who runs a full custom loop in a heavily water cooled desktop that uses Gelid GC Extreme in order to squeeze every last bit of performance?! I... you.. wot...

    Mind truly blown.

Mine is as quiet as a mouse on idle :)

Can't say the same for my older Clevo.

I can't see Intel Gigabit driver in device manager. I figured it out that it might be due to GPU-Z, MSI Afterburner and XTU running in the background.

I'm honestly not sure which is more impressive, your build, or your manga collection. (leaning towards manga collection tbh)

I tell you right now I'd never have the patience (or time) for acrylic tubing, so my hats off to you. If I ever decided to go full custom it would be function over form, and also because it sounds fun. Actually remind me to PM you at some point down the road because I sure have a lot of questions.

And lol @ the guy who got because nobody paid attention to his build log. Are you for real. If you need validation from the internets then yeeeeah.

Btw can I ask what you do for a living? I'm going to guess something to do with design perhaps?

xD guessing you haven't even seen the anime collection yet, which you'll probably run into later in the build log, as for acrylic over plastic, I wanted to go performance/form and vs starting w/ tubing and working up it was my first WC build and wanted to get it perfect for my tastes, making it a metroid theme based depended on it and makes it look so much cleaner + its so much fun. As for the guy you mentioned I kept tabs as I thought and old skool style was interesting, its good to have motivation for the tings you strive for, makes you feel better about it at times, so I can relate, especially when it comes to design and art. As for my line of work (you're close though design/art is my hobby on the side) I'm currently a Network Security Engineer. However I plan on heading back to Uni for my BA in Game art and design next year once I finish my Current BS.

OT though @ Cakefish, given everything you've experienced so far w/ this unit, if we were to rewind time with the whole discussion between this, the Clevo p651 and p75x, would you still pull the trigger on the p35x? o:

BS as in B of S or just BS in life that you have to wade through :D

Also I know you 3 Titans under water already, but this contraption from Gigabyte looks very intriguing indeed.

@Cakefish: Sorry for the derail, Imma see myself out now

    Hello again.

Just want to put my warning sign out there, regardless of the ODD / HDD bug. Gigabyte have confirmed the bug for now & tells us not to use that function, before a update has been released for SmartManagerV3. :)

Fow now it seems to do the following:
    Disables our Nvidia Card (dGFX)
Removes opportunity to create raid between internal and external HDD/SSD (Created raid will however not be affected)

    Best regards
    Danny

So what's the problem with the huge frametime drops with the 980m ?
Do all demanding games stutter like in the videos ?

    This seems very bad !

What videos are you referring to? I thought I was following P35X news pretty closely, do you have a link?

As much as I have wanted desperately to get the P35X/P35W and have followed intensely, I have now purchased a XMG P505 as I am sick of waiting and I think the P505 with it's thickness of 25mm (as opposed to 21mm) it should actually be more appropriate for this kind of performance in terms of thermals. I expect it sometime next week.

Yeah, first thing I had to disable was the touch to click since it was so sensitive.

By any chance, you've created an backup recovery via USB smart backup? If so, how long it took you to create one?

Anyone know where I can download smart update, recovery and all the other gigabyte utilities? I can only find older versions from P35K.

Bring my laptop to work to mess around with it when time allows.

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that first time around, Cakefish's video has a sound stutter about every 9 seconds - I reckon that's the DPC Latency problem he was talking about. And yeah, in the 2nd video there are more frequent frame time spikes for the 980M in comparison the desktop cards, I wonder if that could be a function of the fact that the desktop CPU was a powerful 4770K overclocked to 4+Ghz, although those spikes happened on Tomb Raider too and that doesn't use much CPU.
