nVIDIA GTX 765M/HD4600 on the W740SU versus GTX 760M/HD4600 on the P34G. IPS panel versus AHVA. 4.6# versus 3.9#. 13.3" unit versus 14".
You might want to look at Google Docs spreadsheet for Gaming Laptops
Things are looking a little up on the W740SU's /keyboard issues, but I'm still holding out for the P34G myself.

The w230st had the nicest screen i've seen with its high color gamut and very clear non grainy matte panel with ips like viewing angle. The reason I returned the clevo was the severely high cpu temps of 99c within seconds of firing up any type of game or benchmark, then the rattling fan noise, the interference static sound on the external speakers and mediocre battery life of under 3.5hrs while only surfing @ 30% brightness. Also had several dead/stuck pixels and severe ips glow bleed on the lower right part of the display. -

Yeah can't budge on backlit, it's too useful in the evening.
-
The W740SU doesn't have a 765m. It has an Intel HD5200 iirc, which is far weaker.spicypixel likes this. -
If the p34 comes in at $1500 for the cheapest model, that's going to put it out of my range. Really hoped it would be the one, but I think $1300 is going to be the most I can spend.

Wait so has anyone ordered their P34G and has got it to ship yet?
Just asking since this website is saying they have in stock.
GIGABYTE P34G Ultrablade laptop notebook with GTX 760M 2GB graphics -
I'm really pleased with it. Added an extra hard drive (I have a few lying about) to the mSATA SSD already in it. That was easy, and interesting. The whole base comes off quite easily, a fair number of screws, but simple enough. The construction is quite old school and easy-access ... and I really like that.
So light. My ASUS N53SV is going to a new home somewhere very quickly. I travel a lot and this is going to make a huge difference to me. I need the grunt, as I do software development and run 2 or 3 VMs simultaneously, and have to do that where-ever I am.

1) What about keyboard temperature under load (especially when both CPU and GPU are active)?
2) What about speakers? Are they good? -
-
Thanks!
It'd be really nice to know if this laptop is not going to meltdown on my desk (I owned Lenovo Y510p that I could hardly touch under load)!
And also it'd be great to know if this tiny beast is able to reproduce any bass. -
-
In my eyes it defeats the purpose of a laptop. I'd rather buy a cooler laptop.
-
In my opinion, gaming at work/school defeats purpose of work/school -
P34g is a lot more expensive than I had expected.. I was expecting $1250 minimum with a max of 1600, but starting at 1699 is way too high for me.. Looks like either a W230st, waiting for Asus G46vw refresh (The G46VR), or finding an alternative.... For the price of the P34g, I could almost buy an XMG rebranded GS70 stealth, but I suppose that is to be expected with a premium laptop...
-
YMMV but I want just to have a decent laptop without the need for buying a cooler pad (because the laptop is hot) then a keyboard (because the keyboard suxx) then external speakers (because sound is hollow) then something else...

Can confirm comes with a Liteon 256gb mSata, 16gb Transcend ram and vacant HD slot. Will be installing a 180gb Intel mSata as primary & 1tb Samsung Evo SSD, 16gb Corsair Vengeance and W7. If anyone is interested will document process and post results. -
1. How is Gigabytes "smart software" (that let's you adjust wifi, brightness, LAN)? Is it a gimmick or is it useful?
2. Are you satisfied with the fan noise at the lowest and the highest?
3. What kind of temperatures are you getting for idle and 100% for the CPU/GPU?
4. Would you say that the keyboard is solid? How about the rest of the laptop?
Thanks in advance if you respond. -
How is overall build quality?
Also, that is a beast of a machine.....1TB SSD, wow, enjoy. -
Marrixster, yes I am interested in an update in the process.
Also, how do you guys think the P34G will play Rome II Total War. Any chance at decent fps with highest settings at 1080p?

Hello there , congrat on the purchaze!
My question about this pc is the battery, how many hours of wifi light surfing can u get?
Thanks! -
I've run mine now for a while, and here is some more information. Note that I don't play games at all, so I can't make any comments from that perspective. I use mine for coding and testing with a lot of VMs, and a fair bit of video encoding.
- Heat is fine. I did a long 720p Handbrake encode using the video card and the temperature under and behind was very mild .. it would be no problem at all on a lap. The keyboard (in fact the whole top and front) are completely cool, no temperature rise at all. Within a minute of my video encode finishing the temp was back to ambient - the cooling system is excellent.
- When I put the hard drive in last night I was looking at how it works - the CPU and GPU and near the middle at the rear, with two heat pipes running towards either side. The fans then pump air across the pipes. It seems to work exceptionally well.
- The screen is nicely matt. I have no issues with reflections.
- The fans are noisy when you are bashing the machine hard. The cooling system is very effective but in such a slim box you have to have the fans pushing hard when you push the box hard. The high speed fans also reduce the temperature quite a bit, though within 30 seconds of the encode finishing the fans got quiet quickly. I doubt if the noise would bother someone gaming unless they're playing a silent game! For normal users the fan noise will not be a problem, unless you like videos and will use the inbuilt speakers.
- It is FAST. 720p 1 hour video encode from AVCHD to MP4 was about 10 minutes, reading from USB drive (writing to the SSD).
- Speakers are so-so. Not much bass. Interestingly it has 4 speakers, two on the front under the top edge and two on top at the back behind the keyboard.
Phil -
Oh, and the way the cooling system works I doubt a cooler pad would be much use at all.
Phil -
Fans are noisy when at maximum but I think that will be the case with any PC with specs like this and this thin. The box slows them down as soon as it can and in normal use the fans are no problem at all.
Have not checked the CPU/GPU temps but I bet they are OK given the low external temp under load.
I like the keyboard and overall build. Keys are soft landing with lots of travel. The overall box is solid with no flex in the case at all.

Hey how big is the power block. Its a fricken monster isn't it?
-
Is the matte screen on it very clear and not grainy? -
Thanks for the reply.
By speaker quality I ment does it get distorted or rattle when you use it? -
Hold up, these are out in the wild? Take my money!
-
How is the AHVA screen? Comparable to IPS?
-
-
Any chance we could get a 3DMark11 score? I'd love to see a full gaming review on this from an Australian tech site (seeing how they have access to them before the US).
-
A few posts back there was some speculation of it being the same as the one on the 14'' Clevo w740su, can any owner confirm?
I think there was a review on notebookcheck, it isn't bad, though brightness could be better. -
-
Check here. -
Also what is the weight of the box affordablelaptops sent? -
As I said over in the 35K thread, I don't mean to be a party pooper, but if any of the delays were originating from Gigabyte HQ over in Taiwan, it's going to get worse:

This was a no brainer, plugged in USB 2 external DVD drive, was instantly recognized installed as per normal.
What was even more of a hoot is that the driver/utilities install disk noted W7 was the OS and offered to autorun the disk. Needless to say this went flawlessly.
Only issue is the Samsung SSD is not being seen in device manager. Will remove, put it back in and see what happens whilst watching footy and downing a few ales tonight.
Someone asked about delivery weight from Affordable Laptops, the unit was delivered directly from Victorian Distributor and was the original packaging wrapped in plastic so I'd guess about 2.5 kilos at the most. -
In fact, anandtech is just a preview... So I guess it's easy to confuse both technologies uninformed. -
Hi Marrixster and OzFlip, could you please upload some pictures/videos of your P34G? Are there any other interesting BIOS options?
Thanks! -
-
-
Damn hoped it'd say more than Generic monitor! Ah well some other interesting information.

So when is this going to be release in the States? They keep saying June then July then August comes and now we are in the end of September and still nothing? What kind of Bull is this..
