P34G has 1TB + 128Gb and P35k has 750Gb. Am I mistaken?
-
P35K has two versions CF1 and CF2, you are not mistaken.
-
Just tried the Battlefield 4 Beta, video here...not too bad really.

Yeah that's a mini hurricane brewing, not bothered though since I use a headset.

There are plenty out now, but it seems none is able control the heat in an acceptable manner. Seems like i have to switch to a light 15" -
Gentech shipped my laptop on 7/10
ETA 8/10... -
I don't know what you call light 15'', but the lightest right know it's the p35k I guess? And, by looking at the pictures, I don't see a significant difference in the cooling system so... I think it will be similar. Maybe you should look for an ULV laptop?
Also I think it's not that bad, it's just an effect of the camera. Compare the measures with the soundmeter a few posts back. -
-
Really don't know what you are expecting in this small of a package with these specs.

Ha ha, I didn't even notice the fan noise once playing with low volume. But yeah with the gpu power setting to extreme, it's gonna be fairly noticeable with gaming. I actually saw about a 5-7pfs difference with the gpu set to performance and the fans seem not to ramp up quite so fast. Also, I had started a game, then aborted, then started a new one, so the heat was well up, but normally when doing nothing major the laptop is decently quiet for me.
-
Yeah I've found it fine for my needs too, keeps relatively quiet playing low key stuff like EVE online and World of Tanks. Can't complain.
-
Funny stuff. Those $9,999.00 P34Gs on eBay have now been lowered to $1,499.00.

Hey P34G current owners that have them at the moment, can you guys test something for me if you guys got a couple minutes??
Can you check if there is keyboard ghosting on your keyboard on these 3 key combinations? Q+W+D, and Q+W+Spacebar, and W+E+Spacebar. Please use the link below to test your keyboard. All three combo should light up green when all pressed simultaneously to guarantee no ghosting, but if only 1 or 2 lighted up green then there is keyboard ghosting. Thanks guys

Thank You spicy, because if there is keyboard ghosting, that is a dealbreaker in playing CS:GO or WoW since those games requires 2-3 key combinations to be pressed simultaneously so this is good news.
I have some more questions for you if you do not mind, is there any static or interference/hissing sound on your 3.5mm port when using earphones/headphones or is it clear and with good sound quality? Is there also interference on the external speakers and how is the audio quality on the external speakers?
How is the touchpad? Is it very responsive and not jumpy? Is there a two finger tap to show right menu on the touchpad?
And last question if you are not too busy, some say this is a 72% color gamut panel, is it true? Can you tell by looking at it, is it very colorful and vivid? Is it a joy to view photos and watch movies on it? I know this is an anti-glare/matte panel, is there grainy/sparkly effect? If there is, is it severe or only light not so noticeable?
Thanks -
It's not too dissimilar to my 2012 model Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel, it's not too grainy. It's not quite as good on viewing angles but head on at decent brightness it looks really good. Sound wise I use a USB headset, the laptop has a 2 in one 3.5mm jack like a phones handsfree (has a third band for mono mic and stereo audio) so I don't have a gaming headset which takes that setup. Worked okay using my handsfree kit from my phone for skype though. External speakers as good as speakers of this size can be. Touchpad seems fine, though I disabled as many gestures as possible, I only have two finger scrolling enabled. Since it has a rocker I've just been using the right hand side of that to right hand click for context menus.
-
Would you say it's better than a TN panel with better colors? Can you test plugging in your headphone/earphone on the audio port of the p34g and see if you hear any interference/hissing noise? -
It's a million times better than the TN 1600x900 panel on the U2442F, all I have for comparison. The angles are solid and the colours don't go weird just moving your head a little. Can't hear a hissing noise when listening to music but my ears aren't the best.

Anyone tried repasting?
-- In a model with cooling like this, it might make a difference. - - --- - - -
Also, if somebody could tell me the pin-out interface -terminations- that are on the end of the motherboard/monitor cable,
it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!
(Sharp IGZO's is currently mass producing a 3200 x 1800 display currently..... In the 14.0 inch form factor.. ) There, I shared my secret (or at least one of them anyway), now you share please. ; D :hi2: What are the motherboard connections to this panel.
Also, in the 15.6 form factor, (IGZO is producing APPLs' 15.6 3840x2160 16:10 display. I am sure there will be / is a 16:9 variant / model of that available. Though I think for anything above 3200 x 1800 there's a new connector. I don't know yet. Waiting for October 15 when Anandtech -- Ifixit teardown .
There is also a 13.3 IGZO 2560x1440 16:9 display that is already available.
While these displays arn't as color-near perfect as a one of the TOP - of the heap - NOTCH (bona fide....) ips panel they would be wonderful to put into this laptop. (;
Monitor termination, PLLLLEAaasse. [By the way] This display should go on the market is 2-3 months...
I hope jarred Walton scolds Gigabyte profusely for omission of asymmetric fan blades (both your models were SOsoooo close Gigabyte) on the p34g / p35k. These (fans) were both a clumsy omission from this design.
Edit :
Did I mention repasting would be a good reason to open this laptop? : ) And report on back noise. ; ) Good cooling system like this (componets adjacent to vents, - : D - dual fans... Mac design!) and repasting may (I don't want to say definitely will) make a very tangible difference.
Also, if you has a torque screwdriver, 35 Ft/pounds is ideal. That is the ideal safety torque room for on-board solutions. Laptops / desktops will take up to 45-50Ft/Pounds baring special cooling, i.e water, but stock is usually set to around 25lb~30lb depending on the model, (though most all are in that range.
(Reason for this is) Same PC-board, 2 oz copper traces.
I am not a gamer. I am just an experienced engineer who wants me something small and light (but larger than 13.3) that will get me through the next two - three years until Skylake 10nm Refresh (think very cool [tempurature] mobile hexcore and perhaps octcore computersby then, (on the mature 'tock' version of 10nm) and an actual (mobile) ing Video refresh, 16nm Volta. NV (and AMD just as equally on that matter) could produce their stuff on 10nm also at that time, but they won't as TSMC 16nm will be relatively mature by then -seeing as the R&D on the fab side is already done - but amd will be first to the punch, perhaps not by much though. It's up to NV.
At 10nm which is available in bulk production (tsmc) Q1 2016 and will have demo silicon in late Q4, (2015) NV and AMD could skip 16nm altogether, but it won't happen.
Also, tsmc 14nm was cancelled (for volta, --- bummer...) - demorallizing because Maxwell (in late Q3/early Q4 - by the time our good friend [: D] APPL allows any 20nm SOCPlanar wafers to the likes of NVDA, QUALCOM, and if anyone gets them, (first, under APPL's litteral jurisdiction at tsmc) -APPL has the money, and APPL gets what it wants, and it doesn't like suppliers who can't deliver.
Frankly, just in case you all don't know, tsmc is POSITIVELY ENAMORED (that they scored with APPLE) that they're Big Kahuna's one stop shop. However, just so YOU guys know... That means Qualcomm and NVIDIA have to wait for the 20nm scraps when APPLE lets them fall off the table. LOL . And this is not in APPLE's interest since every 20nm wafer consumed means something like 30 less android devices made/tegra / qualcomm cpu's, etc, etc. Not that I care much, I'll share some because we want reciprocate information. ; )
And it's good to know that.. If you need mobile, now's a good time to buy. Just make sure you hang out and are happy with your platforms' of choice definite ~ finite usage for a while. Thank me later.
Maxwell is late Spring -Q2- (paper launch) to Q4 launch, Paper or not. APPL ordered all 20nm (TSMC) Silicon a year ago and AMD, Quallcom, NV are in industry parley, SOL.
Maxwell will come out on 28 Nm As AMD / might manufacturer at an earlier date via Glo Fo, but these big chips won't mean anything for us laptop users. And NV will charge a bit for the larger chips on 28nm. [28nm has already been tweaked relatively extensively, thank you very much. [ Like going into it's third year?!?!?!?!?. ]
Oh, I also like that this laptop is Kosher. It indubitably doesn't Not not say "I'm a gaming scallywag."

Hey guys, is the Windows OS installed on the 128gb msata SSD or the 1tb hdd on the p34g?
I don't mind the fan noise since I had the alienware m14x r2 which sounded like a jet engine or hairdryer of more than 50+decibels, but i'm worried about the fan noise bursting in and out like on the clevo w230st when only web browsing or doing basic stuff like playing videos or doing word processing. So are the fans bursting in and out when not gaming/benchmarking? Is it a single fan with two exhaust or is it two fans 1 for gpu and 1 for cpu? -
That'll do fine, I just happened to have the usb one from my logitech headset laying around to use, I didn't notice till someone asked me to plug it in to listen!
Personally I think it's a good idea, industry needs to catch up, considering headset mics are mono and it has stereo headphones all in one jack it's clearly better for ultrabooks. -
-
Thanks again Spicy.
Btw, does your p34g emits some type of humming/buzzing noise like a hitch pitch or low pitch humming on cpu/gpu? Any humming/buzzing/ticking noise on the power supply unit? -
What about the response time of AHVA? Is there any noticeable blur while gaming?
Some IPS panels aren't worth it for gaming as the response time is very high, making anything that moves quite blurry. -
I don't even understand what you want to know. You want to know the panel connector? Isn't that info available in AUO's site?
I'll have mine tomorrow. Have you checked photos online? -
Had my P34G for two days now. Loving it so far.
These impressions have been posted before but I need to vent my excitement ;-)
- I'm impressed with the build quality. Keyboard flex is minimal. However, there is some flex with the lid (lcd) which in a little annoying when you adjust the lid.
- Display is absolutely brilliant.
- Speakers are really bad. Doesn't get loud enough on the highest volume. And the sound is tinny due to lack of bass. The dolby feature is pretty useless.
- I had 60GB free (out of 128 GB SSD) on start up. I created a recovery usb using the in built windows 8 service and got back the 20GB recovery partition.
- The windows experience index base score is 4.9 (due to the intel hd 4600). I remember reading it was 6.9. Can any one confirm? -
-
The score with the 6.9 is with the gtx 760m.
-
I remember reading that if you update your Nvidia drivers the gigabyte ultra boost software no longer works and you have to overclock the gpu your self. Is this true?
-
-
Has anyone received theirs from Gentech yet? Dimensions/weight from them would be much appreciated!
Also, has anyone downgraded to Windows 7? Is it a massive procedure? Could you still put the recovery on a USB stick after that to free up space on the SSD?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 -
Remeber that windows reads 1 gigabyte as 1024 megabytes, and that manufactures list 1 gigabyte as 1000 megabytes.
So that 128GB SSD is actually 112 gigabytes.
-There should be a recovery partition that occupies 20GB or so
- You need space to install the OS on so that's another 20 GB
- everything else is bloat ware. Or updates / drivers etc..
I also recommend to partition your SSD and keep 20% of its memory unallocated.
- SSD will last longer
- read and write speeds will be more consistent -
-
I'm not 100% sure about extracting the recovery partition so if someone can comment on that.
Partitioning is as easy as installing windows, (windows creates a partition for itself and you have an option of creating other partitions as well). -
Now you're saying 20% because it's a 128GB SSD right? Bigger size SSDs would have smaller empty partitions, correct? -
Well for the HDD, no I would not do it.
No matter what you do in the HDD the more data you put on it the higher the seek times it will be, if you don't trust me try defragging a 500gb of data vs 50 gb data.
Just use the HDD however you want it won't matter really.
For the SSD's it's %20 of the actual size, once you pass the %80 limit on the ssd loading times will be significantly longer. (But still faster than a mechanical hardrive)
So when my laptop gets here I'm going to unallocated 50gb, so that I can keep my drive healthy.
I hope that answers your questions, if not check out this article

But yeah, everything actually makes sense. Thanks again -
Does anyone know if it's possible to get two finger tap working?

So, I get that the P34G gets loud, but how cool does it stay?
If I purchased one I'd undoubtedly mess with the core clocks on the 760m to raise it to 765m speeds at a minimum. What sort of temperatures are seen under heavy BF3/BF4 usage? -
-
Here's a couple comparison photos I was able to take comparing the W740SU to the P34G. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the W740SU I go to boot up (not the seller's fault, small technical issue on my end) so I couldn't run any kind of live comparisons. Note that the protective plastic cover was still attached to the W740SU, it wasn't actually that shiny underneath.
P34G vs W740SU - Imgur
Also, my apologies for poor photo quality.
I've already returned the W740SU, but I'd still be happy to answer questions about both laptops (remember that I never got the W740SU to boot).
