Well, I've run into my first issue with this laptop. My Fn keys don't work. Well, four of them do work and nine don't. That's the weird part.

I noticed it last night when I went to turn the display backlight off as I often do when sleeping (I'll play a TV show or music in the background to fall asleep to but don't want the screen on). The backlight Fn key (F6) didn't turn it off. Then I tried lowering the display brightness with Fn+F3, didn't work. The mute, volume up, volume down (F7 through F9) and the LCD selecting Fn key (F5) all still work though.

I know it's not a physical problem because Alt + F4 still closes programs like it should, and they other F-keys still function in Windows normally.

I haven't really tried troubleshooting other than shutting the computer down and restarting it. I really can't afford the time it takes to reinstall Windows right now but does anyone have any idea where to start as far as troubleshooting goes?

Hello, I had this exact same problem and I resolved it by uninstalling and then reinstalling both the control center and Aorus fusion. If I recall correctly the Blutooth light wasn't working either and was always on despite BT being turned off.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, I just returned here to say that it spontaneously started working again without me doing anything and hasn't been an issue in weeks. I don't know what the problem was but apparently the ghost in the machine decided to stop haunting me with that particular issue!

I'm back to my previous state of not having any issues with this laptop (at least not any that I can remember off the top of my head). It has been serving me well for both work and play every day since late September.

Edit: You mentioned Bluetooth... one issue is that the Bluetooth drivers have apparently uninstalled themselves. I don't use BT so I don't think about it but if I go into Bluetooth and other devices under Windows settings there's no slider to turn BT on. Again, not a huge issue because I don't really use BT. Does anyone know which drivers are the best to install?

Still have the Killer. Yeah I'll try that again, I brought my BT speaker in to work tonight so I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Edit: Apparently all I have to do to fix an issue with this laptop is come here and post about it. I installed the drivers and BT has been trouble-free since January 11th! I think the first time I installed the drivers I must have used the ones for the newer Windows build. I'm still on one of the old builds.

Hey JCordero31. I see that you've sold your X7 but I was curious if you remember which products you bought for the ram and nvme ssds (radiators/heatsinks)? Looking to add a bit extra cooling to mine. Also, does anyone have a picture/video guide for the thermal pads? It's the first time I'll be using them. Thanks in advance :)

Hey what power supply do you guys have for your Aorus X7 Dtv8?

Bought one and the power supply is so much smaller than for my msi gt73 which also has a GTX1080 in it.

    Cheers!

DEEP fan control is puzzling me and I hope someone can clarify. Does the temp in the Deep setup reference only the GPU temp, only CPU temp, or adjust fans for each based on the curves we set up???

I initially thought is was both, now am thinking it is only GPU so, to further cool my CPU, I had to set it based on where my GPU temps typically are, on typical games, when my CPU is hotter and needs higher fan speeds. Like many of you, I am struggling with CPU temps being a bit too high for my liking tho probably still acceptable (consistently upper 80s C, too often hitting low 90s C for brief periods). GPU temps are almost always very low by comparison, across all games (W3, DS3, AC Odyssy, Rise Tomb Raider...) Undervolted CPU with TS to about -0.15v then reduced to -0.14v after encountering a few crashes (not often).

Also, I keep setting charging policy to Quality but it never stays there. Others finding this resetting at each boot? Thought Quality setting would help battery longevity over years (til it quits taking a charge eventually) but maybe makes no difference?

This forum and members' posts are incredibly helpful, thank you all,
    Cruizer

Anyone have this issue or have thoughts on a solution? Technically X7 DT V7.

Latest drivers and bios, fresh install of Windows 10. Start > Shutdown, the computer starts shutting down, the screen is black. Bluetooth, Wireless, and Power(Lightbulb) lights are still on and main power button. The only way to fully turn off is to hold the power button for 4 seconds. I've never received a notification that Windows was shut down improperly doing this. It's super annoying.

Also booting up takes about 1.5 minutes. 87 seconds listed in Task Manger / Startup. Samsung 960 Pro 2TB nvme gen 4.

    Thanks for the help Everyone!

    Hello X7 DT V8 owners!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to use the command and control software without Intel XTU. I prefer ThrottleStop and I've heard that it's not good to have both TS and XTU running or even installed (is this true?). However, if I uninstall XTU then command and control starts acting up, like the GUI won't appear (but the fn keys work?) and things like the fan control "deep control" feature starts acting wonky...I don't know. If I remove command and control then I can't use my fn keys for brightness, volume, etc. Can I just disable the intel xtu service without it affecting custom settings on command and control, and is it ok to use Throttlestop like that? I love this laptop but i gotta say the software they install on it is kind of janky.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hey CptCorn, I think your problem is "fast startup" go to your power profile screen, click on "choose what power button does" then click "change settings that are currently unavailable". Under the shutdown settings section at the bottom u can now untick fast start up. that should stop your "lights on nobodies home" scenario lol

Hi F3n1c3, I just seen your sig and noticed u used conductonaut on your cpu and gpu, I was wondering how did it go and hows it been since u did it? Any problems with leakage etc or did u use some conformal coating etc? Also u mention thermal pads, was that just for stuff that already had a pad or did you replace the paste on the mem chips with pads?

Recently did a repaste on my own x7 dt v8 with kryonaut and not 100% happy with temps even after undervolting cpu and gpu. But interested to hear about your setup and whether its worth the risk with liquid metal.

Hi, the thermal paste and pads were installed by HID Evolution where I bought the laptop so I really don't have a frame of reference for how well they work. I don't really have issues with overheating except for some thermal throttling when overclocking and using intensive software. I had heard good things about HID Evolution and the upgrades so I figured why not.

Shame :( was hoping to pick your brain lol
If anyone has their unit still and its liquid metal and thermal padded if you could post pics of the pads etc when u have it open again that would be great :) Ive tried repasting with TG kryonaut and using undervolting on the cpu and gpu I just cant seem to stop the cpu hitting around 90 under load. Now XTU shows thermal throttling kicks in but doesnt drop the cpu it stays at 4Ghz. The gpu im very happy with.

Well, for some reference, I can tell you that when I overclock to run all cores at 4.3 GHz with about an 85 mV undervolt I get some throttling now and then (not major) under heavy load, and with ThrottleStop it shows VR Current errors sporadically (which have been explained to me but I still don't understand how critical they are...something to do with memory I believe). At that point temperatures are around 90/92 degrees under continuous heavy load. If I knew more in detail about how to use ThrottleStop perhaps I could overcome these issues. I now keep the overclock at 4.2 GHz with 85 mV undervolt and it seems quite stable and temperatures stay below 90 in general.

You should be able to hit around -0.150mv on cpu undervolt I'm currently at -0.160mv. I'm able to keep 4Ghz pretty stable without much throttling unless it's a stress benchmark and utilising 100% cpu. Also have gfx undervolted to 925 and max clock 1898 using msi afterburner.

    Hey Gizmoslip

I was wondering during the time u had with the x7 what fan presets or custom setting did u use. Ive recently used liquid metal on mine but not seeing the temps u were able to get. even with an aggressive fan plan. My idle at 4ghz cpu is around 45-50degrees. Under a stress/benchmark is hits mid to late 80s and in AC odyssey it could hit up to mid 80s. Im seeing little to no throttling now at 4ghz but I would really like to hit 4.3Ghz with good reductions on temps.

    cpu setup:-
    -0.160v
    power unlimited
    speed 4ghz

    gpu setup:-
    set at 925mv
    speed max 1900
    mem default.

Its really starting to bug me as the liquid metal is only a small improvement on the TG kryonaut i recently tried. Any advice or maybe even pics of the internal custom setup(if thats ok) would be great.

    Hey,

So my guess is that your CPU perhaps isn't as good of a bin as the one I had in my Aorus X7. The other thing to keep in mind is that different workloads maxed the CPU at different clock speeds. Rendering videos I believe I was able to hit 4.1 ghz stable, but while I was gaming the laptop was stable at 4.3 ghz in almost all games that I can remember. I think in the end, I just kept it to 4.2 ghz with -0.165v and a AvX offset of .1 ghz.

In the end, the performance difference is very minimal between 4.0 and 4.3 ghz, so I wouldn't sweat it too much as long as you can maintain a solid 4.0 clock speed as almost all thin and light laptops this thin can't even do 3.6 ghz on all cores (the average seems to be about 3.3 ghz for most laptops this thin).

Thanks for your reply, I'm wondering should I thermal pad the chips around the cpu and gpu as these are only pasted, they were originally pasted and I just repasted with kyronaut. I know hidevolution used fujipoly pads on "heat sensitive" components I'm assuming this is what they put pads on.

Hey guys quick question about the windows key that comes with the laptop and the aorus recovery system.

Is the oem windows key stored in the bios or the recovery image partition?
If it is stored in the bios do i really need to have the recovery image partition?

I changed my nvme drives in the laptop soon after getting it and took me a while to get the recovery image partiton on the new drive and working as I was afraid I would lose the default windows key, but now im only finding out I was probably panicking over nothing?

This is my 1st modern laptop last one was about 20yrs ago lol and without a written key somewhere im just afraid of not being able to sell it on when the day comes.

Also if i get rid of the recovery image partition is it easy to remake one current hdd or a different one if i did sell?

    F3n,
Unlike some Clevo models, these are not intended to be upgraded except for RAM and storage (perhaps an expert could do Cpu or Gpu but w difficulty, idk) As this is now an older model w Aorus 17 launch, I will say i prefer mine to the new flagship which requires 2 power bricks, weighs more, and is quite thick. Owners of X7 dt v8 probabaly arent worried about being underpowered. Our GTX 1080 should handle any upcoming games for years to come and the 144hz IPS display is timeless for HD gaming. If u can find one, this model is still a great buy IMO.

That's actually why I asked, I used to have a Clevo (Sager) and I remember being able to upgrade the graphics card so I was wondering if I could with the Aorus too. Then again, the Sager was a behemoth compared to this one. I really like this laptop and I don't regret buying it but I am considering selling it to help pay off some debt etc. How do you think I could figure out what a fair price would be to sell it? I purchased it originally from HID Evolution maybe a year ago for $4,077.

Unfortunately, neither the GPU nor the CPU can be upgraded as @Cruizer suggested.

Value can be affected by whether it is still in warranty. A good place to check for used laptop values is eBay.

Please let me know how I can be of further assistance.

hello, new here on this forum. i own an aorus x7 dt v8, just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to get the newer command center for the newer aorus laptops working on this laptop? mainly due to the aorus fusion app being pretty bad on this system.
the "aorusfusionshortcut.exe" which is used for macro app shortcuts to the gkeys tends to just randomly crash multiple times per day to the point that i have to run a seperate program to detect that it crashed and restart it. not only that, compared to what you could do on the macro engine software for the x7 pro v4, its very much inferior in every way, setting up macros most of the time doesnt actually work.
another issue i have but with command and control in this case is that setting battery charging policy is never remembered by the software, so the option to have it only charge the battery to 60% using the quality option is completely useless.

love to know if anyone has managed to fix the above issues if you cant get the newer software to work on older laptops, though id very much like to see if it is possible to get command center working on older models because it looks to be far better.

Newer than what they have posted on their support page? I doubt it as functionality or compatibility has changed. On my x7 v7 dt I would just update from the aorus update utility or download from the web site. If you are experiencing multiple crashes it could be purely from the latest windows mess that has been deployed, have you tried a fresh install and update vial the aorus tools or recovery options?

not sure if you understood what i mean.

with the release of the newer laptops with rtx gpus like the aorus 15 and the 17/17x, they completely removed the rgb fusion application used on the x7 dt v8 and replaced command and control with a new program called control center which integrates both the old functionality of command and control and fusion together complete with a new interface.
the rgb fusion application has not seen a single update from gigabyte for about two and a half years, since i got this laptop, it has gotten one update in that span of time (which is 3 years).

only "aorusfusionshortcut.exe" crashes and has been crashing ever since i got the laptop. it is a silent crash, i have to use a program restartoncrash to restart it every time it does. this was never fixed, even though i asked gigabyte for one 2 years ago. the program is simply unstable, but is required if you want to use the macro keys to launch applications.
    for reference: https://i.imgur.com/S7Wzz1o.png

this laptop has seen several complete factory resets, none of which has ever solved the problem

    Hello,

Today I decided to upgrade the stock V-Color RAM (2x8gb) to HyperX HX424S14IB/4 Impact DDR4 2x16gb, which has the same specifications except for more RAM per stick and lower CAS Latency.

I swapped the RAM, but when I turn the laptop on, the fans start to spin but the screen remains black. Also, I tried to clear CMOS by unplugging that little battery for 10s, and still the same problem. But if I put the old RAM back in, it boots fine.

I'm pretty sure the new RAM I bought is compatible because I've looked it up here: https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-r...n-hyperx-impact-ddr4-pc4-21300-2666mhz-sodimm

    What I am doing wrong?
    Best,
    Luka

how long did you wait? it tends to take like 30 seconds for it to finally boot with new ram inserted. did you also make sure the ram was fully inserted?

I'm not sure, probably less than 30 seconds. Also, I'm not sure if I correctly reset the CMOS. I only unplugged the CMOS battery for 10 seconds, but from what I read, I should also press the power button?

i didnt have to reset my cmos when i added the new ram. i went with this for mine https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16g...-pc4-21300-(2666)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-18-1 and they work perfectly.
the specifications are pretty much identical to yours so not sure why it wouldnt work.

I will try again. Also, looking back to page 15 and 16, someone else had the same problem with HyperX ram.

I've tried it again just now, and it's not working. I waited over 2 minutes. With the stock RAM, when I press the power button, the HDD makes a sound, but with the new RAM that doesn't happen. It's not registering the ram at all. I even tried putting one stock stick and one new, and still no boot.

I bought the same RAM as you today, and it doesn't work for me as well. Did you ever manage to get it working on your side, or did you just buy different RAM?

I will return it, but it will take some time since I bought it on Amazon. I've also raised this issue on gigabyte support, and if they won't respond soon, I'll get the ram you have.

Also, you linked 2x8gb ram. Im guessing you have 2x16gb, right?

I have called in a few times and really never had a problem getting through to someone that could give me straight answers.

i tend to prefer text based medium and opt to use the support ticket system on their website. that and they dont seem to have a UK based number anyway.

just to get an idea though, gets a little frustrating when the responses you get doesnt really help much after waiting so long between replies.

What bios update did you do? On their driver support page, there's only one version (FB03) which hasn't been updated since 2018.

I've contacted one of my friends and I will try the ram on his laptop, and if it works, I'll sell him the ram. How much ram do you have? 2x16gb?

I was able to get a hold on support from https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/, and they said Aorus X7 DT v8 supports ram with only CL-19 latency, and the one that I bought has CL-15. So that's why it's not booting...

that would explain it, and i have the fb03 bios, though mine is modded now so i can undervolt from the bios. gigabyte hasnt really made any software updates at all for 2 years now. we may get an occasional update for drivers update but thats pretty much it.

You unlocked bios? I'm thinking of doing the same, how safe it is? I mean, is there a chance to brick the bios? How exactly did you mod it?

Also, I was wrong before when I said Aorus only supports CL 19, it can also support down to CL 15, but for some reason, HyperX ram doesn't work. Earlier I had a friend over with his Acer Nitro AN517-51, and we tried HyperX ram, and of course, it worked right from the get-go, so I just sold him the ram...

    Now I'm deciding between G. Skill Ripjaws – DDR4 – 2x 16GB, F4 2666 °C18D 32GRS and Corsair CMSX32GX4 M2A2666 °C18 So D4 K2 Vengeance Memory 32GB 2x16GB
