Yeah, huge bummer and their QC is a crap shoot.

I brought it to work today since I'll have some free time here and there to give HID a call. When plugging into a monitor, the monitor would go to power saving mode right away. I've added 1 & 2 NVME ssd's, tried various RAM and still no cigar.

Sounds like it. On the phone with HID Tech Support and we are going to RMA it. I'm very tempted to order the X7 DT now after reading your's and Dereks results. Heck I even went to NewEgg to see if they had stock for the X7 DT and order one but they didn't.

It's in and out of stock. It's as if they get one a day.

I signed up for notice when it comes in stock and I guess I'll need to monitor it and hit F5 throughout the day to see if any comes in. Slightly tempted on the 4k but had terrible experience with 4k on an old Gigabtye P37x v5 back in the days.

I'm starting to look at the X5 models now. NewEgg has a nice little gift if you get an Aorus just like ExcaliberPC.

Check and see if it shows anything on an external display (indicating a display or cable problem) and also do what @Darkhan suggested and test the memory modules individually.

That is real bummer, especially since HID did a repaste, changed the ssd, ram and all, obviously they had to test it while doing the upgrades.

When plugged into a monitor, the monitor would go to saver mode immediately and I've tested with various RAM and tested each module individually.

This is the part I can't figure out. Where did it go wrong? By any chance during shipping something got loose or just purely bad luck.

Yeap, they used CPU. Did NewEgg have the promotion when you ordered? If so, how are the promotional items? I use to use the backpack but the strap ripped on me in less than 6 months of use.

I'm going to re-try everything one more time when I get home to see if I missed anything and see if I can get lucky. If the results are the same, I'm going to repack and send it back to HID.

As far as 4k Screen goes, I cant complain about this one. For me I am very pleased but some will argue performance and that's understandable.

Update* I just opened this and looked at the photo and can see that my camera skills suck lol, sorry.

Man I feel sorry for you. What a lettdown. Waiting impatiently just to find out... Hopre this turns out fine for you soon. I guess HDI will have a good and fast support. I`d (of course) recommend the DT. Heck If I had`nt the V6 already - from what I have read - I´d go and get it -> Perhaps the V8 then with Volta an Hea/Octa Core ^^

    All the best tou you!

Thanks, yeah, total bummer but something good came out of it. The impatience in me ordered the X7 DT from NewEgg. =)

Thanks to everyone for their help.

I called HID this morning and they were very helpful in setting me up with a RMA. I'm going to get a refund.

I left a vmail with Gigabyte yesterday and they called me this morning. After speaking with them, they suggested I return it also.

Edit: Anyone know where I can find a 250w ac adapter? I like to leave a spare at my girlfriend's place. Didn't see anything on Amazon or EBay. Might have to ask a retailer that sells the DT if I can buy one from them.

Does any one have some real experience between x5 & x7 ?

From what I see they are almost identical in sizing so does the carrying factor really makes a difference between both? Or is it more about the weight...?

Typically we (or any reseller) can get them directly from the manufacturer or through a distributor. When requesting something like that, even if it seems like a fairly generic part, make sure and specify the model number of the adapter you're trying to get another of because it's really easy to get the wrong thing.

There are two people that I know that have the x5 or had and did a review on the x5 MD. A few of have the X7 DT. I would scroll back some pages to find out who.

Thanks for the tip, will do once my X7 DT arrives.

They came in slot 1 and I've tested every slot hoping one would work. Its such a nice laptop and I didn't want to return it but had to.

On HID site when configuring the notebook, they show the option for 1x,2x,3x power adapter, relatively expensive, but it seems that they might have extras in stock. Maybe you can buy it from them, by keeping the one you have and sending just the notebook back, not sure if they would allow this procedure.

TBH, this isn't the way I wanted it to play out but it worked out in the end since it gave me a chance to upgrade to DT.

I did think of that but was hoping to find one on Amazon or Ebay since its cheaper. Will have to go the re-sellers route once I get my DT.

I had an X5 MD which I returned and now have an X7 DT v7. I had them next to each other briefly, and took a couple of pics which I can post when I'm home if you want.

Purely subjectively - the X7 'feels' a *lot* bigger and a lot heavier. It feels bigger than my ancient Dell Precision M90, which was a great big slab of silver metal - obviously that was very thick, but the X7 still feels bigger.

Also the weight distribution on the X7 feels less balanced than the X5. The X5 felt like if you picked it up on the side, near the front to the middle of the base, it was stable... you'd have to hold the X7 a lot further back.. with two hands. It's a monster - but it's beautiful.

Off-topic of what you asked, but while I think about it: the screen. I went for the QHD. It's great, but, and after the 4K IPS on the X5 MD, I was initially pretty disappointed, just down to the difference in the technologies, but the (and I'm not going to mention a yellow spread you put on toast) smoothness of the motion blew me away pretty quickly. And... hate me for this if you like (and I have pretty poor colour vision), but upping 'digital vibrance' a little in the Nvidia control panel gave me a static picture that, for me, was within an acceptable tolerance of that on the MD. If I could, I'd pick a 1440p IPS 120Hz screen... but of course they don't exist! I think the X7 DT could cope with native gaming on a 4k screen just about (probably 40fps, just a guess), I am happier overall with the compromise of a TN panel.

Also thanks to @Derek712 for that great review and for all his really helpful posts along this laptop-buying journey. I'm going to take a break from benchmarking and stuff and enjoy some gaming now - somehow I never experienced any of the Witcher games before, and there's a Griffin I'm supposed to kill...

Just wonder does X5 V7 and X7 V7 have any keyboard issue, in Taiwan there are people complaints about keyboard will not register when press Q,W key together and A key will not respond, If press A,S key together Q or W key will not respond ~~I have bought X5 V7 in Taiwan and I got keyboard issue and went to gigabyte repair center, those engineers were shocked and told me there are going to work out a solution to fix keyboard issue, I think Aorus laptop doesn't have NKRO~~it is a serious issue in Taiwan at moment.

Thanks for that. Do you mean "smoothness" while playing games right?

It's more about the FPS than the screen correct ?

Well the screen is 120hz vs 60hz on the 4k. Difference in smoothness for even normal tasks is night and day.

Hi there, I picked mine up the other day, and asked the place i bought it from for a second power supply...
I ended up with a 120W PSU (i just asked for a 2nd PSU)... it works, and it does charge the laptop... However, when i was connected to it and ran a 3dmark test, it seemed quite glitchy... in that i'd get superb framerates for a while, then it it would drop right down for a few seconds, and then back up again...

So, i'm not convinced it does the job properly..
I've not had a chance to test fully, so i'll post back if i notice anything different than the above when i get chance..

Does anyone here own Arma 3?
Im curious how the frame rates are in a online match like King of the Hill.
How the 7820hk holds up with the stock speeds.
Its a CPU heavy title for sure.

Nice...I am interested in the EVGA, but they take so long to release, the SC15 took forever and is late to the party...I kind of gave up on one with a 1080. It is a tank for sure but I already have a travelling computer with a 1060.

As long as it's the same voltage and it fits, any adapter will charge it while it's off, at least. The battery only charges at 30-40Whr, no matter what size the adapter is.

So, i just found "Yet Another Benchmark"

Ran Arma, let it do Auto Detect on graphics settings... it set to 1080p on Ultra.
Result was 31.1FPS and a LOT of FAN Noise...

a cheap desktop ($10)keyboard will not have that problem, I have update keyboard firmware to 1.1.8 already, also have been notice newest firmware 1.1.9 may cause keyboard to death so be careful ~ a company update their laptop keyboard firmware to often isn't a good thing, like Razer, Asus, never heard need to update their keyboard firmware so often, even Aorus customer support in Taiwan avoid about keyboard issue, so if you guys think Aorus gaming laptop doesn't need NKRO keyboard, I have nothing to say.

    Haha yeah, thanks
    Kinda what I expected.
I'm curious if over clocking the bejesus out of core 0 will help the frames with an under volt and LM repaste to help the temps. I was worried the low clock speed making the frames suffer. Which seems like yes.

Thanks for looking into it for me!

So my X7 DT 4k came with a yellow track pad. I'm wondering if the color is based on the model you get.

The results below are stock paste, stock cpu / gpu (no OC) with FireStrike & TimeSpy

    Included CrystalDiskMark of my 1TB SM961 NVME & 850 Evo 2TB SSD

Was hoping to be able to reach in the 500s with the 850 Evo 2TB

More to come tomorrow when I start to UV and OC the CPU/ GPU.

Just out of curiousity, did cou read out the frecuency with which the CPU ran while under heavy GPU load?

    Could it hold the/some boost?

Do you have any a list of firmware versions that are confirmed working?

I just received my X5 V7 CF1 and I would like to avoid any unnecessary updates or avoid the ones that can make trouble...

I think we should even create a topic in that matter including a list of drivers which are confirmed by X number of users.

Anyway hoping to hear everyone's opinions on "safe drivers versions"

Use 1.1.8. 1.1.9 killed my keyboard for a while. Refused to type for a long time and when it did, everything was one key off

You should try first by press Q,W key together and press A key to see if it will register, or press A,S key together and press Q or W key if it will register

I think Aorus Laptop don't have NKRO keyboard

with Q and W pressed together the A,S,Z,X keys will not register. All other keys register with Q and W pressed. Pressing A,S together does not cause any issue.

Aorus should do what MSI does and use SteelSeries keyboards on their laptops.
